I have an Evo 3D rooted s–off on cyanogenmod...
I will be using this for the rebate but my question was do you guys think I need to un root and go back stock or just flash a stock rom and send it in? What would you do?

Definitely flash a stock rom. I don't know about unrooting it but better safe then sorry. In their terms of service they will be powering on the phones and ensuring they work - then wiping all data. If there is anything wrong, suspicious, etc I don't see them passing on the chance of not giving you $100.
I have on old hero that still works but half of one of the volume keys is missing. Think it will get kicked back? I have an evo4g but I would rather send the hero.

I was gonna go for the trade up program as well with my evo 3D, but I decided that since it's in perfect condition and I have a 32 GB card in it that I won't need anymore, I'm gonna see if I can get over $100 for it on ebay. The T&C for the trade up states that they WILL NOT ship your phone back if you get rejected, just so you're all aware.
I'm sending either my 3d or an old palm per I have laying around. If I send the 3d in I'm leaving it as is, rooted with a custom rom on it.

so long as it isnt the wifi only version, I would say go for it.
make sure it isnt model P1010.It has inferior hardware compared to the original
AT&T dumped a bunch of refurbs on their site on Friday for $199.99 with no contract. I think if you're in the US you'll see a bunch of them pop up on Ebay shortly. First reviews of the received models are they look like they're brand new.
I would also consider things like exchange and warranty. Maybe it's worth the extra coin to you to know that if you have any issues with it you can exchange it or get it serviced under warranty?
With Gingerbread out now i would say yes get one as long as it is the GSM version and not a wifi version.

Well I finally jumped on it. Its the cdma version from sprint. Why does that really matter, custom roms and such? I'm using wifi only. I love this thing.

Because with the gingerbread rom browsing the web is way faster. It's another level. Not frustrating anymore when there are many flash animations. There's no lag at all with flash videos even in 720p.

I jumped ahead and bought it for $250 + taxes. It is great but I'm contemplating whether to return it or not. It's the 3G at&t edition. My concern is that its not dual core and at&t and t-mob are just dumping these out to make the 10.1 model ready for release. I have no issues with its performance but its just that it's not dual core and I forsee lag in upcoming applications. Anyone has any thoughts on this?

keep in mind if you're getting a One X and it comes with 2.20 on it, there's no root available yet. So it doesn't matter how many devs they have for the device, until they achieve root you won't be able to use any of their stuff.

yep so the vivid is currently looking like a better option LOL
Got the Vivid when it first came out - this phone can't help but create mixed feelings:
Cons:
- Phone is heavy
- Battery life so-so, especially now that LTE is active
- Difficulty to unlock the phone means limited developers
Pros:
- Nice big screen with good quality (at full-brightness, nearly as good as S3 or HTC One X)
- Good camera and GPS (coming from the Captivate which was disastrous in both lol)
- Has FM radio, external SD cards and removable batteries - most of the top Android phones these days are missing at least one of these
The difficulty to develop is probably the biggest downside, but after almost a year I've finally dived into custom ROMs. Unlocked the bootloader, got S-Off thanks to the wire trick, even SIM Unlocked! Using Holis ROM, which is great, should tide me over until next spring when I'm eligible for an upgrade.
So in conclusion, while the Vivid was subpar under GB, since ICS came out it's been really nice. But I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone buying this phone unless it was cheap.
What is a vivid. Its not available in the UK

Can't unlock the att one x (xl) without super cid which requires root. 2.20 has no root, so no HTCdev unlock. Att won't allow the bootloader to be unlocked
The intl one x as well as the s and v are htcdev unlockable

I think it's either called the Raider or the Velocity in the UK. As far as I know, it's Raider in Canada (I can confirm that one at least since I own one), and Velocity in Aus/NZ.

Already have boot loader unlocked and running a custom with 2.20 loving this phone just can't wait to get the one x + or if they make a nexus 4 with 32gig like that did the nexus 7 I'll get betting that instead so I'm just going to wait a few months or so and see what happens

Colts,
I''ve done the research for you. None of the major carriers will activate an unlocked phone. Only one is T-Mobile. You can get a SIM card for ten bucks and pay twenty a month for 550 mb. That's what I did.

It's not a phone. That is something to keep in mind. You can use Google Voice or other call-over-data software, but there isn't native phone functionality. It's great as a camera that can still run applications, but if you are looking for a phone first with a great camera second, it probably shouldn't be the first choice.
As for activation, most carries do not WANT to activate an unlocked device, but if it has a clean ESN, they will eventually agree. Worst case, you get whatever free 4g piece of garbage they are offering, pop the sim in the one you want and put theirs on eBay. That is if you even need 4g, which in this case you would.
Not entirely true. If you have an unlocked Galaxy Camera, you can get T-Mobile data plan for $20 bucks (550 mb). Using Google voice and Talkatone, you have a functional phone. No difference whatsoever from a regular smartphone. As a matter of fact, I turned off my S3 and was getting regular calls through "the camera."
My only warning is make sure it's unlocked. Amazon sent me an AT&T locked phone instead of the unlocked that they advertised. I did return it and I'm waiting to get a new "unlocked" phone today. Also, boot in odin mode to make sure it's not a used phone. Mine had been flashed 5 times by someone else and then sold to me as new. Beware, lot's of crooks out there.

By evo 4G do u mean the og evo 4g that was released a few years back when Sprint used wimax or the new one that has LTE? If wimax then it's probably not going to work because of the major differences between phone and Android versions. For the LTE I don't think it will work because of the hboot and Android version differences. As for temp rooting the phone, is there a reason u don't want to just root the phone the normal way? Currently u can S-Off and revert the phone back to complete stock. If your worried about warranty being void then it's more of a gamble with HTC. I sent my phone for camera repairs after I reverted my phone to stock and I wasn't charged for anything and I used HTC website to unlock it, there are a lot more people that have done the same on xda.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Yes that's the same root file. I just remember using it and on a few phones I had rooted back in my Evo days. I have don't the HTC dev unlock but someone else want to root the phone the temp way then s-off without using dev.

I got won an auction for htc one $150 but it is untested. Like I plan on using it abroad on gsm so I dont care if it is blacklisted it isnt by the way according to swappa.
My only problem is even though the seller has stated the touch screen works fine and okayish in terms of wear and tear.
It is a completely untested phone otherwise.
My only concern is if I buy this at this price and how much will it cost to repair essentials which might not work
microphone, speakers, and wifi
thats pretty much it
the seller is a high volume trader with around 4000 feedbacks so I doubt he is lying about not checking the device himself.
the fact that these things dont work is an if
what do you guys think is it worth the risk? for $150 htc one sprint silver
Don't plan on using abroad, if I understand correctly, and I think I doo.

could you please clarify why? I did my research apparently sprint has gsm radios for international travel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586704
this thread also allows you to unlock the sim for free
If your concern is the possiblilty of lack of 3g dont worry I live in a country where 3g wont come for another year
Well, apparently that may work, limitation being, if you wanna not use sense, the sim lock or unlock, is irrelevant.
