XZ not booting: Red LED and 3 short vibrartions, then reboots - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My XZ appears to be not booting for some reason.
When I try to power up the device, the LED indicator turns red, the phone vibrates shortly for three times and switches back off.
I tried to have a little research on what the different colours of LED means on the XZ and what this three short vibrations mean but could not find much.
Any thoughts?

The battery is empty, connect it to wall charger.

But... It had 73% when I switched it off, it cannot be dead.
Moreover, even when I try to plug it to the wall, it does the exact same thing again anyway, just tried anyhow.

Nope, the screen doesn't even light up, just the LED indicator going red first, 3 seconds nothing, 3 vibrations, reboots, repeats.

Keep pressing volume up + power for 15 sec and try again.

I'm beginning to think the power button is not responding actually.
It does nothing on press and the only way I can get the LED to go red and give me the three vibrations is to plug the phone to the wall.
Odd. It was just on the desk, unplugged, switched on when this happened, the screen didn't respond for touches a moment, so I thought I'd give it a restart, then it didn't switch on again.

The phone just booted, as if nothing happened.
I'll see if I can somehow replicate the problem.

I found something like this in another thread posted by someone, by my understanding, tried to flash a Note 2 ROM on his/her XZ.
lilstevie said:
turn your phone completely off (hold vol-up + power until you get 3 vibrations) then hold down volume down, and insert the usb cable, this will put the device into flash mode, then use EMMA, FlashTool, or PC Companion to restore to stock.
The red light issue that you are seeing sounds like one of 2 issues, the red light shines like that when the battery is flat and needs to be charged before it can boot, or if you flash an unsigned kernel when the bootloader is locked.

The volume up button seems to work fine though.
Funny thing, though, is my bootloader has been unlocked since the day I got the device. I just don't get what may have caused this. It's back to normal now, mind you, yet still is worrying about stability of my device.

Flashed Xperia T with DooMKernel - Now Bricked?

Hi Guys,
Flashed v2 of the kernel using flashtool and it seemed to randomly reboot and crash and be quite laggy etc for some reason.
Rebooted the phone a few times and phone seemed to work and went into sleep. Tried to turn phone on and it is acting as if the battery is as flat as a pancake, no lights nothing on the screen and won't turn on.
Have tried to charge it overnight and still nothing.
Only used the phone for 2days so not sure if it has bricked or it is just a coincidence and the phone was faulty?
Xperia T was running Android 4.1.2 Build 9.1.A.0.489 with bootloader unlocked
Thanks

No joy unfortunately, just tried this on another PC to rule that issue out as well.
It's looking like i'm going to have to send it back for a repair me thinks?

I know i'm probably clutching at straws, but is there absolutely anything else I could try?
Put it on charge and eave it for 24 hours.
Sometimes this brings it back to life.
I take it you have done the hold power button and volume up button for 30-40 seconds untill it vubrates 3 times and then tried to turn it on.

Yeah, tried that a few times, unfortunately nothing happened no vibrate or anything.
Will try putting it on charge again for 24 hours and then see what happens, had the phone on charge at the plug socket for around 8 hours last night but nothing change, no charging light or anything else.
I will try sending it back to the supplier I got the phone from if it doesn't spring back to life after charging for 24hours , I'm presuming that in the UK it could be just a simple swap?
Depends on the retailer/network. I worked for a UK network for 5 years. Outside of 7 days a device went off for a repair. Cpw do a 28 day exchange, not sure about all networks etc you'd have to check the returns policies.

I think what I should be asking really is that if they insist on a repair, would they go the whole hog to test if it had been flashed with non sony stuff, would that be highly likely or just simply swap the motherboards without question?

I've let the phone charge for a few hours and now when trying to turn on the phone, the notification led now flashes red where as before it would not do anything when trying to turn on.
When connecting the phone to PC it still isn't detected.
Ive tried to search for what the notification colours mean but couldn't really find anything.
Is this anything hopeful?

Yes, but leave it on charge untill tomorrow...then try the hard reset and turn on.
Then just keep it on the charger. Red led means low battery

Plugged it back in to the wall charger and it had a solid red light for around 5mins which I haven't had before when trying to charge it.
Will leave it plugged in now till tomorrow.
Thanks for your help so far
From my experience the warranty states if you modify the software it voids the warranty. If it's bricked it could be a pcc brick, a friends XT died that way.
So an engineer may just say it's faulty and exchange it. Hard to say but from what you've said it may come back on now it's charging.
Similar issue with my xperia s but it came back on after several minutes

Hi Greg,
Left the phone on charge over night and have tried connecting the phone to PC and managed to get some kind of response when holding either the volume up button or volume down button and connecting to PC and detects the phone as a USB input device for just a second or so, the phone will then have a red LED light again after this.
I connected the phone to PC so I could monitor anything that happened easier and noticed that every now and then the red light will come on for a few seconds and then go off again.
Could I possibly have not left the phone on charge long enough at the plug socket?
Hi,
I had the same problem. When the light turns red wait until the light goes out. Make sure you have flashtool open and make sure you only flash the kernel. Now when the red light goes out hold volume down and plug in the usb cabel connecting to your pc, a green light wil appear. Now really fast flash only the kernel. The phone will go into a bootloop once and goes out again. Now put on the homecharger and wait untill it is about 50 percent. Now put the phone on and everything works as before.

I had this issue and sent back to Sony under warranty, had notice to say should be back in 24-72 hrs.

i hold on the power button (sleep/wake button) and the off button at the back. i hold them at the same time. after feeling 3 vibrations, release the power button. the device should turn off now. when you feel one vibration. it doesn't turn off the phone. the phone will just boot up again.
isnt there a soft reset button on the back of the phone (you know the button you use a pen to press it).

Thanks to your guides I have found out a full solution for this. I'm come from Trinity...'s rom and have bootloop too.
1. Keep the device connected with PC by USB cable
3. Open and prepare a firmware in Flashtool
4. Flashtool notifies to have your phone connected in flashmode --> It's time to go
5. Press and hold combination of Volume Down + Power + Reset
6. After 3 times vibrating with GREEN Led blinking, have your fingers relaxed and your SP's been in flash mode then :good:
7. Bear in mind that you should be careful for the next time playing with Rom and mods!

Well...this is a problem.

Looks like my m8 is soft bricked. Everything was fine, rooted, romd, s-off all went smooth. Then I installed xposed and my phone refuses to boot, even when i try to put it into recovery it bugs out and turns off. I suspect an Ruu could fix but we dont have one yet. As a warning to everyone, stay away from exposed for now.
Once xposed is installed, it creates a zip on your internal sd to disable xposed. Flash it.

My phone just stopped working(turning on)..

well...this kinda ruined my night yesterday...I went to a concert yesterday around 8 and my phone had 70% and I was checking facebook or something like that and without no notification or warning it froze and turned off on me. I figured it was a normal freeze..and I attempted to turn it back on and nothing happened. Went to my car to try to charge it and nothing. Not even a charging light. A day has passed after the concert was over (could not take pictures, thanks htc..) and now the "dead battery symbol" comes up and the orange light keeps BLINKING..to my understanding it means that it is not charging? What could it be..anybody could help me out .maybe a soft reset? no charging it for a couple of minutes?
Anything would help. Thanks..:crying:
Possibly try holding the phone under a light and press the power button?

Mine froze up on me last week during a power cycle. I had to hold the power button about 2 mins (if not longer) before it finally responded and rebooted. I was getting my coat to take it back to the store, holding the power button the entire time, then bang, the white screen with the HTC logo finally appeared.
Not a good feeling ?

Trust me I tried every combination of buttons I could think of lol.
I actually thought it bricked, took me like 5 minutes before it finally booted to bootloader.

Screen just turned off

So 5 minutes ago I was using my M8. The screen turns off. I tried to reset by holding the power button. The charging light doesn't come on when plugged in, but the reboot sounds work. Nothing is responding. What should I do? and has anyone else had this problem? My screen is just black.
try power and volume up buttons for 10 secs.
I did volume down and power while connected to a power source for 10 seconds and it worked. I was pretty scared. Haven't seen a screen go blank like that in a while.

OK.
I thought maybe volume up by itself was doing something different.
