I'm new to this Galaxy Note device and a bit confused about some requirements i read about flashing roms.
Several makes mention about that it works only for a specific kernel. How do I find out which kernel I have?
The phone currently is on paranoandroid 4.2.2 custom rom. Since it's a bit lagging, i want to flash it to a new better rom.
I'm unsure if I can simply download any custom rom and flash it or should I flash a specific kernel prior?
Also if you have any recommended rom with stock s-pen functionality would be great.
Thanks.
you can download any rom of you choice and flash as its on a good kernel. for Spen you will need to stick with TW custom roms or stock roms

Hi Everyone,I'm really disappointed with the galaxy note stock ICS rom.I'm running the N7000ZSLPF stock rom now.(wipe version + bootloader)Before this i used the N7000XXLPY stock rom.But non of them r that smooth.N if i use other launcher they lag too much. Both of them use too much Ram than GB.I though ICS will come with the ICS icon & theme like Galaxy Nexus but i was wrong. So what should i do now.Should i use a custom rom?Every one always suggest me to use custom rom.But is there any custom rom which is fully stable with Galaxy note?Which will be the best custom rom in terms of stability, performance, speed, u.i. for Galaxy note?Cause i don't want to get in trouble with my note by installing a custom rom.Custom rom will void my warranty ?
"Perfect" is not appear at real world, if u want stable, use custom rom that base on touchwiz, if u want speed, use custom rom base on aosp, if u want perfect, wait

"Custom rom will void my warranty ?"
Only if you send your device to service center with custom rom loaded, but you can always revert back to stock and "get back your warranty" whenever there's need.
Thank u both for the reply.Akiainavas what is Cyanogenmod 9 Nightly? Is it also a custom rom as i don't have any idea with it.N guys can u plz suggest me which custom rom i can use?
As i can see there r many custom roms out there such as -(Based on Official ICS) MIDTeam,Rocketrom,CM9 etc. Which will be good.
Best Custom Rom that I have seen till date is the Paranoid Android. I am never going back to stock after this rom. The functionality of this rom is superb.
Thats my question, whats is the best base rom fot installing roms etcs.

As far as I know there is no difference but do not take that for granted
There is no best rom for installing other ROMs
Custom ROMs will replace old ROMs file, so it doesn't matter which ROM you have...
The best rom for your new rom is your old rom...

As long as you are running a safe kernel you won't have issues. Make sure that you are in a safe kernel and do a clean install (full wipe)
That is the usual method, but also make sure that you read the rom download instructions just to make sure that you follow the correct instructions. Take into consieration that some AOSP roms fail when flashed from TW based CWM, so you need to flash an CM based kernel first..:good:

How can I know if I run a safe kernel?
which kernel do I exactly need for RocketROM ICS?
RR v12 runs on Notecore which is a safe kernel unless you have applied a different one
Since there's a Miui 8 rom that uses the stock kernel, which makes it not require a unlocked bootloader, couldn't the stock kernel be used in a CrDroid/Slimroms/Cyanogen/Lineage/AOSP rom?
I have focal touch screen and i can't use any custom rom except xiaomi.eu
So is it possible to use the stock kernel with a custom rom? Of course not with aosp roms
no
it maybe not compatible
try it urself to see is it work

I have the same touch.
FWIW, people on Telegram channels advised me to do precisely that: install a custom ROM then replace the kernel with the stock one (boot+dtbo)... but I never tried it for lack of time.
