Hi, my xperia z is locked to 3 network.
I was looking in settings->apps->all. I came across an app called SIM lock. If i was to remove this app would the phone become sim unlocked?
It's not that simple, the app just gives you the right dialogs to enter the unlock codes etc, the locking itself is done at a much lower level afaik.

Hi got a new Sony Xperia Z but can't use it yet
As title suggests its sim locked on o2 network. Is it possible to get it unlocked and if so where can I do it. Any help much appreciated.

I'd like to see some dev able to unlock that...

Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yeah that's it, monthly can unlock at anytime except iPhone 5.

I have tested on my zl, but sure that it will work on z also.
hey everyone, I found a way to bypass the lock screen and remove the password/ pin from the settings.
well, this i got to know accidently when i was trying to run a code on the phone.
hile i was searching on a sonymobile website, there came a code *#*#73556673#*#* to run the retail demo, after running the demo, my locked phone removed the pin and shown swipe unlock screen.
then i again locked it with password and then run the code from the locked screen through emergency calling number. after that i pressed the home button 2 times and my locked screen changed from password to swipe screen unlock.
NOTE that after pressing this code retail demo starts, and to stop that demo you have to run the code again....... if you want more help, then ask......
so this is easy way to unlock the Xperia zl, it must also work on Xperia z, if you have Z, then please share your views.
I think it is the best way to unlock the phone because it removes the password from settings. old trick was that to access the service menu through emergency number.........
my aim towards posting this trick was to show and tell SONY that they should look upon the security issues and improve the security for the upcoming updated of 4.2..........
please hit thanks if anybody was helped from this post

What do you expect? This thread is 8 months old.
The Z was still running Android 4.1 then. Sony fix this type of bug/exploit in new firmware updates.

Nearly 20% people does not upgrade their phone's software, so this is for those.

Yes, it will work for those that stay on old firmware, though I doubt 20% of XDA members with an Xperia Z are on 4.1.2, which is 3 major Android versions out of date.
I was simply responding to someone complaining it didn't work and explaining why.

Looking to get myself a Sony Xperia Z at the shops tomorrow.
I've found one thats locked to the 3 network (UK).
Just wanted to check that it should be simple anouph to unlock it to any network
Thanks
Ben
You will be able to buy an unlock code to network unlock it.
However, as it is a carrier branded handset, the bootloader will be permanently locked, which means you will be unable to flash CM/PAC/AOSP based roms. I don't know if that's important to you or not, but you should be aware of that.

Just a word of caution. I tried to have mine unlocked from 3 and they point blank refused. High street shops won't touch it either. I had to do some dodgy dealings to get mine unlocked.
But yes it will be bootloader locked whatever you do.
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
Dodgy dealings? There are many unlocking services online (on eBay especially) that will send an unlock code for a fee. Nothing dodgy about that.

I haven't got an eBay account sadly. I ended up going to a market trader and he did it for a fiver.

Thanks guys, I think I'll stump up the extra and get an unlocked one then! Even though it'll be £50 more :/
I wanted to unlock bootloader and therefore checked the root settings. It says that unlock is not allowed. Is that because I bought it over network provider or can I simply ignore it? Is everyone of you able to unlock it?

This has been covered a few times. This means that your carrier has blocked unlocking of the bootloader, so you will NEVER be able to unlock it. There is no way around this.

As far as I read in the net there is a paid way to unlock it. Does anyone know if it is possible to unlock without opening it to activate test point...

Do you know what is Unlock Bootlader? Do you know what is SIM Unlock? They have nothing to do one to each other.
Unlocking Bootlader will not Unlock SIM Carrier. To unlock SIM Carrier you have to pay for it.

Actually I did not say any words of unlocking SIM. Talking about bootloader... there is a tool called SETool2. With that it is possible to unlock phones that aren't unlockable. The phone needs to be put into test point mode connecting some pins on the board.
Just wanted to know is anybody has experiences with that.
Ps. .. And in most cases when unlocking the phone the SIM lock vanishes too

Sim unlock prompts only show up when another carriers simcard is inserted, is there another way or terminal command?
I have the unlock code, but only have my AT&T sim. I was wondering if there was another way to simunlock the phone besides the tradtional method.
What is exactly your problem? What did you try to solve this problem? What changed since the problem arised and before that? If you provided any of this information that is neccesary, I could try to help out
Not a problem, just mostly a question.
Is the only way to SIM unlock a phone the traditional way of "I must insert another carriers SIM"?
Is there a particular app that I can manually run or a terminal command I can enter that would ask for the code?
I don't have another simcard so that's why I'm curious

If your phone is AT&T and so is your sim card. You are not going to get the unlock prompt. Buy yourself a PAYG sim card,( not ATT&T ).. they are cheap and might even come free.. Insert it into your phone and enter the unlock code.
