USB OTG - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Dunno if any of you have tried it yet. Anyways it works, but does anyone know how big of a flash drive it'll support. I only had 2-4gb flash drives around to test.

should be at least 64GB but I would think even bigger if the drive in question was powered separately/externally
could you describe your usb otg setup?

Just the usb otg adapter and a flash drive. That's it. Nothing special

I transferred files from my evolte to the one using a 16gb flash drive. My 2tb external is externally powered and worked fine on my evolte, I assume this will be the same.

USB OTG with charging?

Anyone had any luck with these cables? Specifically using an external DAC while still powering the phone. It's possible on my Nexus 7 with a custom kernel.

+1 Very interested in this as well.

I am using one of these cables, but in a different manner, ie I am accessing a WD Passport 1TB external drive. (does not have ac in) Both my drive is powered AND my phone is charged. (tried using both a 10kmAh external battery pack as well is direct AC adapter.
Know it's not exactly the setup you are using, but as far as cables go, the phone seems to work well with this setup. YMMV

If I may ask, where did you get the cable? The only one I found so far is on Amazon and review there say that it will not charge the phone, just the external device.

Got the same cable and its not working, do we need a special kernel to make it work?
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app
On my Nexus, I did have to flash the right kernel. I'm guessing that will have to happen here too.
Why not make a cable that will charge and otg

Just an update. I ordered one of these http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=261170130579&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=87388073446
Should have it next week to test but based on the seller's description and testing on similar devices, sounds promising. I'll report back.
I have just bought it.
Initially USB hosting works, but I have no chance to charge at this time.
-----update-----
The female micro USB jack does not charge the phone like the one for Galaxy Tab.
Do you think we still need to add a 40.2k ohm resistor just in the galaxy s3 and will a stock kernel work?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I would like to add I managed to get an OTG + charging cable working for the Note 2 (N7100) using a cable made with these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953061
But... the 4.1.2 update stopped the USB from working on my Note 2, and someone else is reporting a similar problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38611244&postcount=42 . What happens is the Note 2 does detect it's using a dock, but the USB functionality doesn't work for some odd reason (even after a reboot).
I will reply again if it starts working in a future update.

Probably the same as the s3 - shorted pins = otg+no charging, resistor fools the phone into thinking it has an accessory/dock that can charge safely.

It sees that it's in a "dock" but nothing I plug in will work. It does charge though. If I short out the pins I get host mode, but no charging. This is with the Jedi rom, not stock.

[Q] HTH One and USB OTG

Hello to everyone! I just want to make sure cause my English is not very good.
Would the new flagship from HTC officially support USB OTG or USB host?

That's cool so I won't miss removable storage on my HTC one, and I can use my USB pen drive and many other devices and I can use same connector I bought for S3, That's really practical If I am shooting large video I can transfer video file to usb and never run out of space, but r u sure will it work out of box and without rooting?
My otg cable is already in its way. Should be getting it by the end of the week.

Allows you to plug in USB flash sticks, SD card readers etc for expandable storage. Can't run anything that draws too much power (ie etc hard drives) but otherwise works well.
You need a micro usb - usb OTG adaptor.

Just like this one that I bought last week.

Not really...
USB otg will always be an inferior option compared to hot swappable micro sd.
What is more convenient, micro SD card or a cable sticking out of your phone + a USB flash drive?

For me, USB. I don't always have to watch movies. When I have to, I'll just plug the USB, maybe I'll copy the movie to internal and then I'm cable free, after watching I'll delete it. This way no cable, no swapping of SDs and internal doesn't pose to be a problem

That depends to some extent on whether you want to access the files on the drive while the phone is charging.

Have you actually tested it, or are you just assuming?
Please don't get me wrong, but I want to use "DSLR Controller" on my next Android so I want to be 100% sure about USB OTG.
My DHD does not support it even with JellyTime.

It does have OTG, I've seen in a screenshot, the option to enable OTG. I also have a DHD, JellyTime isn't the issue, the hardware does not support OTG on DHD

USB-OTG exFAT Support?

So my One can read my Fat32 USB flash drives, but my 64g exFAT it see's as "Blank USB Storage". It says USB Storage Blank or has unsupported file format.
Just want to confirm if anyone else has seen this. And yes, I did reformat my drive and same issue... I'd hate to have to go Fat32 and limit my file size.
Peace.
exFaT won't work. It's not supported in any sense Rom.

Well crap. It also won't see the 64g drive when it's formatted FAT32.
That was a little embarrassing when my buddy read his 64g exFAT drive on his GS3 and mine fumbled on the goal line! HAHA
So, I gotta blow the dust off my 32g and format it fat32...
Peace.
Try NTFS.

1tb hard drive via USB otg

Has anybody tried using USB otg with 2.5" self powered hard drive?
I tried my 1tb western digital passport and it doesn't even power.
Flash drives work fine. Using stock kernel BTW.

I am not an expert on the subject but maybe its the lack of power. Try a powered usb hub or something if possible. Again I am no expert but usb 3.0 compatible devices usually make use of the extra power allotment to be "self powering" unlike in usb 2.0. So I am guessing it is a power issue.

keep in mind that must be partitioned as FAT in order to see the content of the drive via OTG. i don't think NTFS is supported. i hear there are custom modded kernels for samsung phones that support NTFS but that's not the case with regular kernels
Sent from my LT25i using xda app-developers app
I've got a 2.5" ToughDrive and the OTG cable I have won't supply enough juice to power that.
The cable works fine with USB pen drives but that's it.
I haven't found an OTG cable that had a power input to support more power-hungry drives.

Has anyone tried usb otg hub?

Has anyone tried to use one of the otg hubs? I'm looking on eBay the one's with usb sd card reader hdmi and usb they say for Samsung but I don't see why they wouldn't work for the Z. I was just asking if anyone has tried? If so how does it work?
