When I upload any video from the phone to sites like FB or Flickr they look awful. They look very choppy and low resolution with lots of artifacts. This never happened with my Galaxy Note or iPhone. What the video looked like in the phone when I played it back was what it looked like when uploaded, with minor quality degradation. With the One the videos look great when played back on the phone or saved and played on my computer. But as soon as they are uploaded to any website the quality looks really poor. Anyone else experience this?

When you've uploaded HD video with your previous phones are you sure you weren't connected to WiFi? You may just have to copy the video file directly to your computer and upload it from there.
According to the article below, video is converted to standard definition when uploading to FB on an iphone. The article was written about a year ago though.

I've always uploaded video files through Wifi only. The video looks worst than standard definition, really choppy. I can understand FB compressing the files, but why even on Flickr is the video so choppy looking. Is there something in the settings I'm missing?

Well if you can upload that same video to youtube in HD and you find the quality to your liking, at least that would narrow it down as a problem with the app itself and not the phone's firmware. I've never really paid attention to the video quality when uploading to facebook. This is simply because every FB video I recall watching on my newsfeed has been poor quality.
I assume you have a Pro account on Flickr? http://www.flickr.com/help/video/

Yep have a Pro account. Problem partially solved. I tried to upload my video through my Mac, but Flickr upload wouldn't recognize the files. WTF! They are in .mp4 format after being directly transferred from the phone to my Mac. So I decided to just rename and save the file as .avi, bingo Flickr recognized. After uploading it through my Mac the video is finally being displayed in HD quality. Weird. So for some strange reason the phone is compressing the videos to SD quality when uploaded through the phone, gotta find a work around for this. Totally kills it that the phone records beautiful HD videos but I can't share them in HD with others.

Ok did some experimenting. Same video uploaded to Flickr directly from the phone the quality is bad, but from my computer it's HD quality when it is uploaded to Flickr. Then I tried the same but this time uploaded the video using both methods to YouTube. Bang, both videos are in HD quality when they arrive on YouTube. So I guess the problem lies in the embedded Flickr uploader preloaded on the One. It is automatically compressing all videos to SD quality in the phone before uploading. Must be some kind of bug in the new firmware.
Also, it appears that you need to have a Pro account on Flickr to see videos in HD. Otherwise they show up in SD
I have this exact same problem with uploading videos to Facebook from my Nexus 4. The funny thing is the video on FB that I uploaded has an HD button on it but it doesn't change anything when it is lit. It looks like crap either way. Anyone find a solution? Waiting until I am at a desktop computer to transfer the files and them upload them from there is not the solution I am looking for.

Okay, so there have been a few things that are really kind of irritating me with the videos on the Captivate... of course it could all be operator error and there may be fixes for it all, so that's where you guys come in
1. It seems I can't send a video I have shot over gmail unless it's at one of the absolute lowest resolutions and lasts no more than like 10 seconds. Is there anyway around that? This is even over wifi. Shot a video last night, and couldn't get it to send until I had it on the second to lowest resolution and kept it super short (10ish seconds)... This seems pretty ridiculous considering my old phone could at least send a minute or so of pretty good resolution video without any problems and didn't give an error.
Anytime I try to send a larger or longer video so far on my Captivate, it says file too large and ends up sending a blank email to the recipient.
2. If the battery is below around about 20% I think, the phone won't even allow you to play videos... Likewise, you can't even open the camera app if the battery is on the lower end. I dunno, I feel that's kind of crazy. I mean if I wanna utilize my last few minutes of my phone's life watching a video or taking a pic for whatever reason, shouldn't I be able to make that executive decision? lol.
Soooo is there anything I'm missing here that would fix these problems for me?

1. Are you trying to send a video you previously recorded or trying to send new video you just captured?
Have you tried - opening the mms or email app first and adding an attachment. When asked what attachment you select Camera. Then record video and let the app compress it before sending. This has worked well for me.
2. Heard this complaint about videos and music players alike. I couldn't provide any info on that matter as I haven't been agitated by that particular scenareo yet...
Hope this helps.

Umm well mostly video that has just been captured or previously recorded. When I go to the gmail app first and go to attach, it only lets me choose image files rather than video. Sigh. :-/
Thanks for your reply though, I really appreciate it
Hi everyone,
I've contacted Huawei a few times, but haven't got an answer.
Does anyone know why the P9 does not support exporting or sharing slowmotion videos? I can only share it on google+, if I do it on instagram, facebook or simply copy and play it on my pc, it plays in regular speed, now slowed down?
What's the point of this function then? Samsung S6 can record the same and simply exports it.
I had a problem were my slow motion videos would only play at normal speed in google photos, I changed the upload setting from high quality to standard alls ok now
Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
play your recorderd slow mo video and tap the screen while paying, you will get a bar where you can set the time where slow mo begins and where it ends, and you have a save button. The newly saved copie will play slowmo on the desired sport rather than the whole film(if you select from begining to the end, it will be the whole film) however I miss the 2x 4x 8x function that I read about

Thanks for the tips! I can see the bar and adjust it, but I can't find the save button anywhere
I now have the problem, that the slowmo correctly plays on the phone, but when I upload to facebook, the slowmo is gone and the video runs at normal speed. Anyone has an idea how to get the slow video to facebook?
Change to where the slowmotion should be on the video and then save the file. When shared it will play as on the phone.
How do I save the file. I change the beginning and end of the slo mo and then share it to Instagram and Instagram previews in normal speed.
Yes I know that I'm digging up in an old topic, but I find it better to get a proper answer once for all rather than asking the same question several times.
save the video

I was having the same "issue". Once you edit the video to show the slowmotion part that you want on the upper right part you will see 3 dots, if you hit them you will get an option to save the video. This Option only shows when the video is playing or on pause.
In Google Photos it's easy and possibly!
Instead of opening it from the gallery I opened it from Google photos, from there I shared it to WhatsApp and others with the effect of slow motion at last

after adjusting ..tap on the three dot at the top right corner of the screen there you will see the option to save slow-mo file and voila

Download Adobe Premiere Clip from the play store and import your slow motion video in to there. Then you can export it as a new file with slow motion intact.

You have to save the slow mo file and export that and it will upload it in slow mo. I do it on IG all the time.

I actually was having the exact same problem, but then i discovered that you simply open your gallery, open your slow-mo video..
Now this is the tricky part :
When you play the video, in the top right corner you'll get the 3 dots option button, click on it and you'll get option to control brightness, audio and there will be an option to save the slow-mo video and share it will play as slow-mo everywhere.
Nite that the 3 dot option button only appears when the video is playing.
Hi,
Did anyone else has problems with pixelated video in social networks (fb, insta). And i'm not talking about my uploads... Every video i see has this issue. I'll try to get a screenshot or video edit of this also.
Same for me, only vidéos but all apps: Twitter Facebook and Instagram..
I've just bought my Huawei P20 Pro and video quality in facebook, instagram, even some youtube videos is really bad, pixelated. I compare to my iPhone 6 which I still have it and it is a 4 years older phone which runs them perfect on a smaller screen. There must be some trick with the resolution that Huawei must fix! Any info to share?
Bad audio and visual
This is the same for me. The quality of the sound is bad as well. I think someone said on here that Snapchat doesnt use the camera on android but "screen records" the video thats on the screen or something, But the sound should be good.
It is so bad its like using a camera from 20 years ago
Same Here, Any Fix for This?
I have the same issue, can anyone direct me to any link that could help me solve this? Thank you!
Have you downsized screen resolution or set it to automatic?
Settings - Display - Screen Resolution.

No, it is just the way the app is on android I am afraid. I have learned to take the video using the camera app then later post to Instagram
It's a shame this, something needs to be done. Surely 2018 Android can take good quality videos using Instagram and snapchat

My gf cant post videos made outside of Instagram, on her Iphone. Instagram just closes.
So maybe Instagram is the one to blame.
For me, I recorded a video in 4K resolution with H265 audio codec. I uploaded to Youtube and wait for a while, YouTube process the video in 1080p 60fps. OK, not bad. But when I uploaded it to FB, FB downsized it to 720p 30fps. That is terrible. It's not the problem with the phone. My LG V20 also have similar experience. It's the Youtube, FB and Instagram to be blamed for downsizing the video files for easier upload.

No, I can play 4K vids from Youtube quite sharply.
Hello,
I have noticed when I use the youtube app to upload videos, the video quality changes to 480p whenever the video is uploaded. I have tried setting the camera app to 1080p 60fps and UHD and changing the settings for upload quality in the youtube app, neither helped. This happens when uploading on either wifi or mobile data. Anyone knows whats going on?
Thanks
The issue you're having is solved in the YouTube app. Click on your profile picture in the top right hand corner then the settings option, next choose general and then upload quality. Choose original and what ever resolution you recorded in will be how it is uploaded. Hope this helps mate

i have tried that, it doesn't solve the issue
It is definitely related to the youtube app. No idea how to fix it. What I have noticed is when I watch an uploaded video using any mobile device via youtube app, then the video is in 480p quality, but if i use my PC to watch it, then the video is in the original quality that it was recorded in. Whats going on here?
Same problem
I have same problem. But video quality is 480p even on computer. I uploaded one video more than week ago and it is ok. Three more videos in last 3 days show only in 480p. Backup to google photos is in 1080p.
So problem is only with videos in portrait mode. In landscape it is uploaded in 1080p. I try upload same video to vimeo and it shows 1080p on PC, but quality in android app is lower (i don't see in app setting button to change it).
Is anyone facing problems with Stories videos? Whenever I try to upload a video, from my gallery, the video lags SO MUCH...
And if I try to record a video directly in Instagram app, the video lags EVEN MORE.
The experience with this social network, in a whole, is a little bit crappy, with the Mi A2...
It's so sad, because I really love this phone, specially the camera.
Well, is anyone facing the same problem? Is there any fix?
Thanks in advance! <3
Same problem, only with GBintsa stories work fine
Same problem, but only video story.
I also have this issue and always had it with every Android smartphone I ever owned. I investigated a bit on the internet and read somewhere that Instagram handles the Android camera API in a ****ty way. I'm no expert but seemingly the difference is that iPhone always uses the same API or just some different version because there are not many models on Android however there are probably more than 1000 different camera APIs because there is a much bigger variety of models. In short: Instagram on Android is not very well optimized.
I had the same issue with my MI A2 i fixed it buy installing a previous version of the instagram app I had the go like 10 vesrion before to get it right though and i lost the gif feature in messages but let's hope the update wont have the same problem.
Instagram beta works fine for me
Edit: NO IT'S NOT!!
Also recording from stock camera app in 1080p 60fps and then posting as story is fine
I also had this kind of issue, which is also present in older device like Redmi Note 4 in MIUI. I don't know what make its bugged tho

You have to think that you don't have an iphone, and you don't record smooth video on instagram app. Record on camera app and share it on your story.
Also photos you sent on instagram are in very tiny resolution (dm)

I think this is a decoder related thing.. because screenshots look bad, but photos taken from camera looks good. Any video other than 1080p 60 fps from stock camera looks stuttering; but it also has very bad sound quality... That's really fuktup xiaomi..

The problem with the sound program will solve Cinema FV-5.
Go to the sound settings and put a tick on the Disable Audio Automatic gain Control (AGC). The sound starts being processed by the application's algorithms.

Instagram stories are smooth on my mi a2 running android P with the latest instagram update. Last time i was on android 8.1, the latest version of instagram has the choppy stories problem. Try updating to android P.
It's been months and still my stories are 15 fps.... what a joke...
This crap needs to get fixed. No matter which account I the video is choppy/laggy. If i shoot video inside the app the review looks good. once it uploads it's laggy. If I save the video to my phone... it's choppy. If i have a video already on my phone and I upload it to stories to the normal feed... it's choppy AF.
I'm on 8.1 oreo with RAW enabled. This suuuucks
Can someone confirm that the videos are better or smoother in Android P?

YESS this also happened to me, im using redmi note 5 rn and the current rom is in miui 10 global stable
The solution is to install the older version of instagram. I'm from Brazil and I found this solution, if you want to solve it and see everything fast again use this version here: 51.0.0.20.85
Search google to download ...
Do not upgrade to the newer version, if it does not come back all over again.
Guys! I found the solution!! Try to use the
H.265/HEVC codec.
