Hi,
I have changed the thread and scope because I think this is a general bug of our razr i.
The playback test are performed on my razr i that has unlocked bootloader, stock JB retail EU ROM, rooted, AIO mod v6 installed.
FullHD video made by razr i stock camera:
Stock video player: lagged playing (not so evident lags, but present).
MX Player w/ HW codec: lagged playing (not so evident lags, but present).
MX Player w/ SW codec: no video lag, but audio interrupts every some seconds.
HD video made by razr i stock camera:
Stock video player: no video lag or audio interrupts.
MX Player w/ HW codec: no video lag or audio interrupts.
MX Player w/ SW codec: no video lag or audio interrupts.
mpeg4 video made by Motorola Defy CM10 camera:
Stock video player: very very lagged playing.
MX Player w/ HW codec: very very lagged playing.
MX Player w/ SW codec: no video lag or audio interrupts.
Download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17467860/razr i/DefyMPEG4.m4v
So, how many of razr i users can confirm this? Is this problem present also in ICS ROM?
Some workaround/solution?
Here the old first post:
Hi,
I have a lot of video made with my old Motorola Defy. All the videos are .mp4 and use mpeg4 video codec: the playing of these videos on the razr i (JB) is very very lagged!
Did someone have the same behaviour?
Obviously the videos are played well on the Defy and on other smartphones (e.g. Galaxy Nexus).
Here one of the video:
https://www.wetransfer.com/download...6e00a8b533a563974a82200a20130423151120/0f0c73
ASAP I upload the video on other location like dropbox.

Try with Mx Player. Some videos the default player doesn't play it smooth, but with Mx player, the videos are ok.
Already done. Same problem.
If someone can try with the video I linked could clarify if the problem is common or not.

Wirth mxplayer and Software Decoder it runs smooth but not with stock player
Thanks for the test!
I can confirm this. So I thought I bypass the problem using mx player...but...did you try to play a fullhd video made by your razr i with mx player with sw decoder? Every some seconds the audio disappear!
Not so good...I really do not expect all these video playing problem with this atom processor!

Well for me its not a problem
I have a lot of full hd videos record by me and i can play it normally with stock media player and with Mx player with defautl configuration

ICS or JB? (please, always indicate the ROM used)
About FulHD video with stock player/MX Player HW you have to look well to see the lags for me the FullHD video MUST be played fluent with and atom 2GHz processor!
I must say that razr i plays well some FullHD video downloaded from the internet with MX Player SW and this confuses me more...I tried to find a relationship between the playback problem and the codec used in the various videos, but till I cannot found anything.
About the Defy video, another user confirm that are very lagged with stock player/MX Player HW and since the videos are played well by the Defy and others smartphones for me this is a clearly bug.

Is there an MKV player with internal subtitles support?
I've tried many different players already. It seems the Optimus 2x has no mkv hardware decoding support, so those other players just play audio and display a black screen.
The closest I can come to is RockPlayer but I have to extract the subtitles out for it to be able to load them.
vplayer?? may be?
OX2 plays MKV well since Baseband/ROM/RIL 606
and which player, play's that files good?
i use CM7 and rockplayer it works good

"Tegra chip only support up to [email protected] for 1080p and possibly [email protected] for 720p"
i converted my mkv from hp 4.1 to main 3.1 and it plays fine on latest stock rom v20l. 45min tv show took about 22min on my i5 2300 machine from mkv ac3 to mp4 aac , i connect the phone to an old sony bravia tv via hdmi cable , and play from my NAS which run NFS server with mx video player 1.5, ( i'm able to turn on hardware acceleration after conversion, before conversion it can only use software decoder and basically can not be watched, it stuttered a lot)
i used mobo player, and its works good.
this is market link for mobo player :
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.clov4r.android.nil
then you install codec ARM V7_VFPV3 for O2X : http://www.moboplayer.com/decoder/down.php?ID=6
this is a official web for mobo player : http://www.moboplayer.com

I agree. The only player which can play x264 720p mkv files smoothly.
Anyone got a list of the codecs ICS roms will play natively? Seems mkv will only play in software decode [and not at all via gallery] where they worked fine in GB
I use MX video player it plays mkv files without any issues except when the file size is more than 2GB
Yes mx is the only player that seems to work but if you look top right its using a software decoder. All gb roms were working in hardware hence better battery performance and playing right from gallery.
ive been using 2 different plays and find them quiet good
1 mobo player
2 rock player

I am NOT looking for a piece of playback software! I am trying to work out if we have a missing driver issue or a kernel flaw. No new software should be required to playback content that worked fine in GB
hi
First of all i want to say that i don't wana to use players like bsplayer, dice player or mx player.
I want to watch a movie in built-in player or m video player.
The thing is that these movies are working good on stock 2.2.1.
And one time is working for me on 2.3.6 (but i forgot on what rom and now i can't find it)
Maby some one know what to do to watch that type of movies.
MX player play this only in Sw mode.
One developer say's that this is maby kernel feature.
I think this could be some video drivers.
I recall that GamerzRom was able to play 720p mkv very well, but not with a stock player, it was with Moboplayer rather.
I don't think any stock player will be able to play 720p mkvs, due to the lack of hardware decoding support without proper codecs (Samsung does slap in quite a few already, but unfortunately not for MKV IIRC, presumably due to it possibly sucking too much RAM).
I guess your best bet would be to try that ROM with a 3rd party player like MoboPlayer, Dice player or MX player.
ok, i like the rom , video speed is little better but it still lagging and played in software mode
look at the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz-mh1RzmpA
It works just fine for me. On ICS CM9 with mx player. Very smooth and clear!

maby more info?
becouse i don't think that .mkv is playing smoothly for u.
Try this: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=322020
Diceplayer
i'm using devil kernel with XL memory and without any problems. 720p videos work perfectly with Video player and Diceplayer.
So try and see if devil kernel helps you out too.
Good Luck
for me on CM9+devil's kernel 720p movies runs smooth without any problems, I'm using MXplayer.
slim ics + devil3 +mx player or dice player and video playback (.mkv, anime) is terrible.

Hi everyone,
I'm on official CM 10.1 and when I play WMV video files using MX Player, they play only with SW decoder which becomes laggy if the video is in 1080p with high bitrate. These videos play fine on Stock ROM with HW decoder and of course with default video player.
Is there anyway to import LG video player, video libs or whatever responsible of this to CM to make this videos work properly?

Although it may not solve anything, consider upgrading to the latest nightly also. As of July 12 I saw all my GPS issues disappear, so perhaps your issue was addressed as well.
Hello,
Bad surprise for multimedia user like me : there is no more support of AC3 audio format and other codecs :
Galaxy tab 7.7 :
audio : MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, FLAC, AMR-NB/WB, Vorbis, AC3, EVRC
vidéo : H.264/H.263, MPEG-4, VC-1, WMV7, WMV8, Sorenson Spark, MP43, VP8, HEVC
Galaxy tab S :
audio : MP3, OGG, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, WAV, FLAC
vidéo : H.263, H.264, MPEG4, WMV
Bad, yes. Surprise, no. They've been gone for almost a year starting with the N3.

Look for MX Player in Google Play. Publisher is J2 Interactive. I use it together with the hw decoding codecs and I can play everything including DTS audio, etc.
Thanks. What codecs you recommend?

@celtichazard, "REPRODUCTOR MX" ?
The problem is Mx player use sofware decoding (for Ac3 or dts audio) and use much more battery than the stock player with hardware decoding.
H/W+ Decoding still not playing M4V video

maybe you already knew about this, but just download these files and the stock video player now plays AC3 sound just fine.
http://www20.zippyshare.com/v/64965084/file.html
just put the media_codecs.xml in the etc folder and libsac3d.so and libsomxac3d.so in the lib folder, then reboot the tablet
BSplayer has been able to hard decode every codec you can think of for several years now on sammy devices, stereo and multi channel, if plays everything I have thrown at it from AVI to MKV to MP4 in all sorts of different formats, even on their free version, there really is nothing that can touch it, it even has network access.
Once you have discovered this player the discussion ends, this will be everything you will ever need.
Hi Guys,
is there a lib for DTS audio?
I did try @[email protected] solution for AC3 and it works flawlessy, Thanks! :good:

Hi da.trute,
I was a fan of BSplayer too, I even bought the pro version, but on the Tab S 10.5 (S 805) I notice a lot of micro stuttering in hardware accelerated mode.
I had to go with MX Player and I can say it is much smoother (H/W+ enabled).
I do miss the internal SMB support of BSPlayer, but I flashed the excellent SkyHigh TW Kernel 1.9 by @UpInTheAir and now I can mount my SMB shares from my NAS with CIFS Manager.
I can use then the internal playlist function of MX Player (play next randon movie basically) as all the files in the SMB share mounted by CIFS Manager are considered local files.
BSPlayer PRO is still working great on my Note 10.1 (2012 version).

i've not noticed anything, i can play 20 gig MKV rips over wifi form my server down starirs to my bedroom through several walls and mine are buttery smooth.
MX used to have issues withg AC3 summing to stereo, assume this is ok now?

It is probably only due to my specific configuration. .
AC3 and DTS audio seems to be ok, but I have not tried listening with headphones so I'm not sure about proper stereo downmixing.
Anyway I'm on stock 4.4.2 ANF6 build with a custom skyhigh kernel and MX player is buttery smooth.
I can play mkv 1080 files perfectly (roughly 8gb) and my extensive collection of series and cartoons (mostly in xvid sd) plays fine.
God knows. .

as soon as I froze ANT+ stuff, BSplayer came back to life again!
Now it is buttery smooth, and frankly, better than MX Player.
