Hi all! First of all sorry for my english
I've bought my xperia z few days ago and I am experiencing a very low battery life, even without using the device too much. First thing I noticed (when I fully charged the device for the first time) was the the standby time approximately only 5 hours with stamina mode (!!!) and a huge battery drain, something like 1% every 2-3 minutes with only mobile connection (GSM) activated and some browsing (no flash only text), no bravia engine, no video, no application in background, lowest possible light screen and of course stamina mode. After about 2 hours 60% of battery remained. Now I have about 5% and I used it for about 20 minutes of browsing, some game (2D), and nothing more.
I ran a test on the battery but seems in good health.
I should re-calibrate my battery?
N.B.
When I bought it I have used it until the discharge (10-5%) of battery then I've made partial charge up to 50-60% then discharge again (10-5%), afterwards a full charge of about 5-6 hours. Can this have damaged the battery?

did you update to .434? because some users say that they got a battery drain when they updated to this version,
anyways, ill give you a solution that works for me,,, install " snapdragon batery guru" really helps alot , and you will noticed some battery improvements, much better than the power management mode,
p.s. dont use it on gaming to much, and dont remove it to charger often ( even when its not fully charged yet)
If the service test say the, battery is fine, it probably is.
Have you tried factory reset?
It sounds like some app is keeping the device awake (and very active)
Try providing some more info, like battery stats.
You should install wakelock detector or better battery stats and see if there's a bad app. And solve it with greenify or uninstall
Sorry I'm quite noob on android, xperia is my first android device I'm coming from symbian
Yes I updated on .434
For the apps keeping awake, I only saw the "battery usage" menu ad it says: Display 46%, Chrome 11%, Android System 11%, Media Server 10%, Standby 4%
Well to begin with de activate chrome, and all syncing.
Settings > accounts > press account & de activate all automatic synchronisation.
For chrome go to apps > all apps > chrome > deactivate.
Then go to play store download dolphin browser

Charge it and see if battery had improved, it should've , charge it to like 20 see how much drains for 60 minutes without using it. Should be 0% or 1%

ok ill try. Some friends told me to fully discharge then recharge for about 12 hours, can this work?
Another thing, I saw some screen of estimated standby time of xperias in the forum, they are all around 1 day, but mine even with a 100% full charge says only 5 hours, what can be?

Does anybody experience a 3% to 5% battery drain just a few minutes after charging the battery to 100%? It has already reached 100% so I already unplugged it from the charger, but then I noticed after a few minutes, it went down to 97% already, and then in 10 minutes, it's already down to 96%. In 3 hours, it's down to 84%; in 7 hours, it's down to 38% and that's just on standby mode with Wifi/Bluetooth OFF, 3G OFF, GSM only. I've been experiencing this problem for the past few days now. I've already conditioned my battery, charging it to a full charge (100%) after draining the battery until it shuts the phone off. I only charge the battery while the phone is off and usually it takes about 3 to 4 hours maximum to charge it to 100%.
The longest time it reached was 12 hours (battery unplugged from charger) and that is with light use, such as Wifi is only on for a couple of hours, so basically just 2 hours web browsing and skype, 10-20 text messages and 30 minutes to 1 hour browsing the photo gallery or watching videos. No phone calls and 3G is off. The rest of the day, the phone is just on standby mode. I only have at most 10 widgets on the home screen. I have Avast Antivirus running in the background.
I am currently using Easy Battery Saver, Easy Task Killer, GO Task Manager and Battery Monitor Widget. I've uninstalled Juice Defender since I don't think it helps that much when it comes to the battery drain. Currently, the power saving option (available on Note) is enabled at 50%.

Any feedback or comment on this matter would be really much appreciated. Thanks!
From a personal standpoint. Your screenshots shows that your phone had never ever done a deep sleep at all. the 'Awake' mode is continously consistent as well. I guess the probable reason for that is you've installed ''Avast AV" on your phone. It's always running in the background (whenever the phone is ON). From my experiences, Any background application running would always cause wakelocks and the phone would never enter into deep sleep at all.
How bout you try uninstalling some of the background apps your using esp. Avast AV and give it a day to observe if your still having that battery drain issue. (Don't forget after uninstalling or removing those apps, try to wipe dalvik cache and battery stat and restart your phone after.)
and Oh by the way, I am using Juice Defender and contrary to your saying it doesn't help.. IT DOES HELP save battery as I my Note is able to reach 1.5- 2 days of normal use.
Cheers!
Yeah and download betterbatterystats and do some searching on it. With it you can discover what is causing those wakelocks. Search the web for more info on your wakelocks.

I'm using avast and never seen a drain like that. Only time I have is because of background processing. First thing I would do is turn off Background Data
Then as others have said - check batterystats to see where wakelocks are
Plus a rooted phone is a good thing. Titanium backup allowed me to freeze wi-fi sharing which also made a big difference
Finally - clear all caches from Applications menu and reboot

Only picture that shows that is the one with 1 minute 56 sec discharging time, so it was taken shortly after taking charger out. No suprise of it being almost 100% screen on time there if its only 2 minutes
Also installing "cpu spy" will give the cumulative time that your cpu spent at each frequency including deep sleep , mine is showing 88%
John.
Anti virus app is battery hog, I had avast before too, and I uninstalled it after 2 days using. Also that Juice defender, from my test before, it use up more battery than it saved. turning on and off those 3G/Wifi thing is using up alot of battery. and you know what? even the betterbatterystats use up alot, at least to me, becoz it scan what is up frequently.
Hello! Thank you all so much for your response. I've installed both BetterBatteryStats and CPU Spy and here are the results (please see attachments). Upon checking CPU Spy, it shows there that phone did went to deep sleep, maybe? I'm not quite sure, but it shows on the screenshot that it went to deep sleep for 19%. So does that mean the phone really went to sleep?? I'm sorry to ask this question, since I've never really encountered this problem before with my previous Samsung Wave phone, how will you know that your phone went straight to deep sleep mode?
Also, after 46 minutes or so, the battery went down to 96% already after charging it. The battery drain was already 4% in less than an hour.
@letters_to_cleo: I have not uninstalled Avast yet, since I'm still hesitant to use my phone without an AV. But I will try your suggestion for 1 day and see if there's any battery improvement.
I'm looking forward to your response or suggestions. Thanks again!
i am having problem too with new battery original samsung ( made in japan, finished in korea) previously i use samsung battery made in china, finished in korea. charged it over night with power off. it only last 13hrs. my wife phone can last 30hrs.
i've used batterymix to check the battery usage graph, the usage graph drop very fast compare to my wife phone. i'll post some screen capture of the graphs.
another issue is i used once wifi sharing. after turning switching the wifi sharing off, the wifi sharing service always at the background even after many reboot. how to turn that off??
You might need a new battery. Any rechargeable battery has a finite charging cycle. Just a suggestion.
Hi, all! I just noticed that the battery drains still even during deep sleep mode. After 3 hours or so (during sleep mode according to CPU Spy), the battery went down to 92%. It drains even faster when the phone is in use, especially when Wifi and Bluetooth are on, maybe 2-5% drain in 1 hour.
Maybe there's something wrong with the battery?? It's still a new battery and I can see some improvement each day though, but that's because I use it less each day. Before the battery can only last for 8-10 hours, then it increased to 12 hours, and then to 16-17 hours. BetterBatteryStats' current estimate to empty is 24 hours as of today, but that's because I only used the phone today for only a couple of hours, with 20 minutes Wifi and Bluetooth ON and most of the time, it's on deep sleep mode according to CPU Spy.
What do I do with the results from the Partial Wakelocks? Do I have to disable those apps?? The Kernel Wakelocks didn't show any reference apps running. The screenshots for the Partial and Kernel Wakelocks that were taken a few hours earlier still show the same results after 3 hours.

That would be really bad luck. I got my Note via preorder in Germany at the first day it was sold and since then I charged it everyday, sometimes even twice and there is no difference to the first day. If I get told by Samsung after 6month of normal usage the battery is dead that would be the last Samsung device I bought and I use a lot of Samsung stuff.
@ebichan24
Your last screenshots show between 9:35 and 13:35 5% of battery drain. That's not really a good value but ways lower than before. Did you delete some Apps or what did you change?
And since when occurred this issue? Did you install new Apps before this happened?
On my Note I had this issue sometimes without any changes but it was gone after a reboot.
Gesendet von meinem ARCHOS 101G9 mit Tapatalk 2
Agreed with Kanalcommander.... try a reboot in the first instance.
Others have also noted that it takes a few refresh cycles before the phone more accurately reports battery use. Perhaps what you are reporting is because the phone and battery are new (new ROM or Kernel loaded?)
What I have done in the past is to reboot into CWM recovery then clear the battery stats (in the Advanced menu option) Recharge the battery to 100% until it says to remove charger and then use normally until battery down to around 20%, then recharge the battery to 100% again. Do this over a few days and that may help.
thanks, it is new battery two days old.

I was having similar problems with my new note and finishing full charge in 12 hrs but fixed some things and my last charge gave me 2d6hr seriously..few things i did were stop using live wallpapers! Get badass battery to thoroughly monitor stats and then use zdbox to extend life even much eg. I put phone to auto flymode using that app when its sleeping time rest i am more than satisfied even if on GB LC1 fw..waiting for official premium suite for ics since i recently upgraded from sgs2 using ics i miss that smoothness and much better bat life.. Let me know if can be helpful.. Good luck

That's what I'm currently doing right now, well, actually, what I do is I discharge the battery until it reaches 0% and turns the phone off. And then I charge the phone for 3 hours while it's switched off, I turn it back on again to check if the battery is fully charged and then I unplug it from the charger.
@Kanalcommander
**Did you delete some Apps or what did you change?
I haven't deleted any apps yet since I don't know which app/s to delete. Most of the apps I downloaded in Note were the same apps that I used in my iPhone4 and Samsung phone before.
**And since when occurred this issue?
This issue occurred since the first day I bought the phone, which was a couple of weeks ago. How long does it take to condition a new battery and new phone?? I'm sorry if I have to ask this question, it's just because I never really experienced this problem with my previous smartphones.
**Did you install new Apps before this happened? On my Note I had this issue sometimes without any changes but it was gone after a reboot.
I only installed recently CPU Spy and BetterBatteryStats and that's it. The drain of 5% from 9:35 to 13:35, the phone's just on deep sleep mode. And then from 13:35 to 23:44, it went from 92% to 74% while the phone is on deep sleep mode at 90% according to CPU Spy. That's 18% battery drain. It's just an unacceptable number for me. I tried rebooting the phone already, but every time I do so, just a few minutes after I turned the phone ON, there's already a 1% drain in the battery.
Also, does the battery really drain faster when the Wifi is ON? I've read in other threads that there might be some problem with the recent OS update that Samsung needs to address. Is this true?? Because as you can see on the screenshot below, the battery was still at 74% by 23:44 and then after I turned ON the Wifi and used it until 01:26, the battery went down to 54%. That's already a 20% battery drain in just less than 2 hours. I was only browsing through the Android Store and Skype.
Calibrate your battery in case you flashed any roms and for first usage I got my battery to 0% 3 times then everything is running great for example its at 47% now its 22 now and I have had it off charge since 7 morning..... i have wifi gps and 3g always on and use music player bluetooth and made some calls

My battery (also only a week old) drains quickly too. Can anyone tell me if widgets draw a lot of current? And then is it only the ones on the visible screen or do all widgets draw juice all the time?
I will ask such thing, did you guys check the battery expiration day ? Mostly sibce you got your phone almost a yeae after it was announced you nay get a bad battery, as for widgets the ones that are always active and asking for informatiom. Like location or weather over the internet yes they do eat your battery kinda fast.

Recurring battery drain? - Caused by memory of using app to drain battery?
Hello!
I used a battery drain app when charge left was 30% to accelerate drain to "die out" stage. After I completed the calibration process for unrooted phone as suggested in various sites (charge fully, switch off and charge etc.) I started using it from a 100% stage.
This afternoon when the battery showed 30% I saw in BMW the current flow was in -10ma to -15ma and it started spiking to hundreds. There was no change in settings or usage. From the 30% level it dropped to 10% in an hour and I had to charge again.
Was puzzled why the battery which was dropping around 0.5%/hour in standby earlier to the 30% level suddenly went down hill. My first guess was it was possible some file in the system remembered the previous usage history and replayed it out.
Any suggestions? Anyone faced this before? Everyone says LiOn batteries dont have memory so if anything it has to be the phone.
Thanks!
Hi,
Got the xperia z(c6602) for 10 days now, and am little worried about the battery life, yesterday got the firmware update to bulid no 10.1.A.1.434.
and wanted to clarify whether the battery is working properly or not, I got 17hrs 30 mins from the battery with 3g on and in which the phone was not touched for 6hrs,( though is not kept in stamina mode) . Total screen time is roughly 2hrs 30 mins.. attaching pics of the battery stats.. What should be the total display time to drain the battery from 100% to 0%, and how to determine whether this battery is faulty or not

I cant even get such figures in my dreams, playing games is simply out of question, as it drains battery rapidly and google+ is already inactive in my ph. i have attached the pics to show what apps i had been using, simply used ph for checking emails and whatsapp. and screen time is 2hrs 30 mins.. brightness at 20% does it imply i have a faulty battery.
Iam sorry but, I do not think this is bad battery life.
2 hours onscreen 13,5 in stand-by 6 \ 7 % phone calls and your battery is still green.
Not to mention it seems like your 3G is on and you do not use stamina mode.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Does that mean that i have a faulty unit?
Should i take it to the sony service centre, for replacement. ? Need help..
Well no, not at all.
I think the battery life of your Xperia Z is acceptable.
To give you something to compare with:
My Xperia Z is on battery for 12hours and 42 min now.
Battery left: 51%
2hours and 12 min of this are on screen time.
Only use my signals when needed and I do use stamina mode.
Iam pretty sure if you manage you signals properly and use stamina mode you get aprox the same results.
Yours and mine do not differ to much.
Iam pretty sure you could drain any smartphone its battery within 5 hours of onscreen time.
This the Z gives me aprox 4 depending on what I do, Id say its acceptable.
Kind regards, Stefan.

If you install some kind of backgroud task killer your Z gets better results. I got mine with Du battery saver and dx toolbox and got it runnig for 1d16h26m, and it stays it got battery for 3 more days (stamina mode on, all Google backgroud apps, FB apps and a few more are dead ).
I do not want to use a task killer, but freeze apps I do not use using Titanium backup.
3 days standby is easy when you do not much with the phone yes.
I achieved this aswell, just saying 12 hours in standby with 2 hour of onscreen use and 51% left is not bad imo.
Kind regards, Stefan.

I had same problem man..and i was shocked with it.. İ got really disappointed with my battery but after reflashing stock rom with SEUS and full offline charging for like 5 hours am ok with it now but i am still waiting for more with 4.2.2 update!!!
Sent from my C6602 using xda app-developers app
Don't think 4.2.2 is a saviour for the Z. Once my Nexus 4 got 4.2.2, battery life went significantly downhill...
I just bought an Xperia Z phone and tablet yesterday and was pretty exited about it! It works really well, I love the design work and, yeah its just great. Only thing is, the battery is killing me, here's why:
I woke up this morning and unplugged my phone from the charger, it was at 100% of course. I sat down in my couch, checked Facebook and some News websites. Literally 8-10 minutes later, my battery percentage is 91%... 91%!!!!
My brightness is at ~40% no running apps in the background, no live wallpaper, WiFi on, latest Android update.
Is this normal? I was used to my Galaxy S2 lasting a lot longer, and I know I can't compare the two batteries and phones, but if this problem persists, this would mean I wouldn't be able to use my phone for apps and whatnot for more than 1h20m without having to charge it.
I got it yesterday, turned it on and configured the phone without it being in the charger, it was on ~50% when I turned it on and when it reached like ~20% I plugged it in the charger, I don't know if this could have damaged the battery, should I've plugged it in the charger right away? I am saying this because I remember on old cellphones (not smartphones) to get the best from the battery you had to charge it non-stop for like 20h or so.
Sigh, this is a bit frustrating. My Xperia Tablet Z has a great battery btw., absolutely no problem there.
The Xperia Z phone has screen time of 4hrs or so. It's primarily because of the 5 inch 1080p screen which consumes a lot more battery. I have owned my Z for two months and I get a day out of it with 30% battery by the time I hit the sack. For me it lasts 15 hrs or more.
Swraj
how can people stand 40% brightness? its like killing my eyes.
i do 0% brightness with auto on. saves me alot of battery.

Do comment only after giving the battery multiple charge cycles. If the same problem persist after 2 weeks, yes you probably need to check what is sucking up the battery.
Do take a look at the graph under "Settings" -> "Power Management" -> "Battery" to take a look at what is the highest consumer.

Try these
I used to complain like u did at the beginning, but i tried doing these things and it really improved my battery performance....
1- 1st of all it will get better after a week of charging discharging cycles
2- I uninstalled moxier pro
3- Deactivated google now
4- Disable bravia engine 2
5- Disable google chrome and use another browser (boat browser is really awesome and it supports flash)
6- Disable access to my location from location services and activate it only when u need it
if u do these things u will have marvelous battery improvements!!

let it die (turn off when it hits 0%)
charge it again fully

this should force calibration
Xperia devices automatically my calibrate the battery, sometimes the kernel bugs and doesn't calibrate right
in realy rare cases you get a battery that says 100% but is realy actualy around 20% or less

check to see any apps is running in the setting, most likely should be Google related apps, such as Google+
My Z1 seems to lose the first 10% of a full 100% charge in about 1 hour with little to no use but after that its perfectly fine.
Battery life in general is very good. first phone ive had in about 6 years which can last me 48 hours without charge
EE UK as well
Sounds like a rogue app, remove anything you don't need, avoid adverts in apps, always do a full wipe when flashing a new rom regardless of base, get better battery stats and track down the rogue app, probably a wakelock.
Use greenify to shut apps up, autostarts is decent too.
Having a tonne of accounts on your phone and apps like viber and skype always logged in will munch the battery.
Switch off wireless controls when not in use and lower your brightness down to around half.
A few power cycles of the battery might help too, also don't overcharge, ever
reboot phone then open the service menu (*#*#service#*#*)
Service tests>Battery Health Test
Normal healthy capacity is 3,141,000
Hellow I'm a happy owner of the xperia z for 10 days, but I'm facing fast battery drain when using the phone. When Im just browsing the phone, battery goes down 1% percent every 3~4 minutes... When gaming battery drops 2-3 % every 5 minutes. I need some help, I didnt charge the phone the first time for 8 hours, but i read it is not necessary. I'm rooted, 4.3 jb, doom kernel v21. I have deleted some of the bloatware and i don't have WiFi and data on all the time. Also media server sometimes goes up to 21% in battery usage.

That battery drainage seems normal to me. Playing games needs alot of battery. Battery usage depends on several things, how high is the screen brightness etc.. To your media server: are you listening to music with your phone? Or watching videos? All this is done by media server.

Some people are reporting 5 hours on screen time. If I game for one hour, i can barely get 3 hours on screen time. My usage is 30 minutes Web, music. For about one hour and a half, gaming 1 hour tops, and some browsing the phone.

Stop gaming and you'll see that you will get 5 hours... Playing is what drains your battery that fast

Without gaming, only with Music, some browsing the phone and the Web, I barely get 4 hours on screen time, for example, battery has gone down 6% from my last reply.

Are you using mobile data or wifi? Mobile data needs more battery than wifi. Also what is your screen brightness?

Most times i close some, and.the phone is new.
1% every 3 minutes or so is not excessive drain. If you do the calculations, then that works out to 300 minutes to fully drain the battery, or 5 hours.
As the phone is new, it will take a few charge cycles for the battery to reach full capacity anyway, so see what the battery life is doing in a week or so.

As i know is not good to totally drain the battery. For example, i was talking to the phone and had wifi on right now, and my. Battery has gone down 14% in the last thirty minutes. My on screen time is at almost 2 hours, without gaming, and my. Battery level is at 43%
Edit i set screen brightness to 35%, my battery level is 41%. Sometines phone draws 1% every 2 and half minutes.
Yes, I know you shouldn't completely drain the battery. Total screen time calculations should be based on the full capacity though, or I could say I only get 1 hour screen on because I always recharge the battery at 80%! (I don't. It's an example).
Using the phone in different ways will drain the battery faster than others. The battery usage you described in your first post is not unusually high and will probably improve after a few charge cycles.
