I acquired my device from T-Mobile UK and it came with 1.28.61.7 and cid ORANG001.
As far as I can see, there is no network branding on my device and it appears to be identical to a device running stock 1.xx.401.x firmware.
Why do carriers do this? I could understand them wanting to push their own bloatware to their devices but, in my case, all they are doing is holding my device back from receiving the latest updates. Most infuriating.

Just unlock bootloader and install ARHD, then you'll be running the latest base 1.29.401.13.

Thanks, I'm fully aware of that but it will not give me a full firmware update.

No it won't. You'll have to wait for S off, there was a thread created today on supercid, but nothing that works yet.

Ok I just got my IS and I am in America. I go to update and it says I am up to date. I see you can not root the S-on yet so i am stuck in 2.2.1. Also do you get OTA updates if you are in the US for this phone.
Use my downgrade guide, but dont use the version changer and use a goldcard, should've work.

I doubt it ...
Running unlocked on T-Mobile and AT&T and I bet we'll never get an OTA update... ever.
Quick Guide with S-on:
1, Download one of the official RUU rom (name comes with "signed")
2, Make a Goldcard - will take you 5-20 minutes computer work.
3, Run the RUU rom .exe, keep click next->next->next->..........

Has anybody actually managed to do this with a Bell IS, though? Mine is unlocked on AT&T, and I have yet to try it, because I haven't found anybody that's done it successfully. Most posts that I've seen say they get an error, that the goldcard method won't work on a Bell IS for some reason.

hi all,
i know that we can use gold card to update to the UK gingerbread rom from our s-on IS irregardless of the IS region (i.e. asia, hk, etc).
But can we use the gold card to downgrade back to 2.2 official firmware (e.g. 1.38.707.1)?
We are not dependant on T-Mobile USA for the updates, they have no way of tracking. Once HTC releases 2.3 we can download direct over data or WiFi

That's exactly right. The phone calls home to check for an update and uses whatever data network available to do so.
It is in no way, shape or form carrier tied.

I tend to believe you, but I had emailed HTC a few weeks ago asking about this exact topic. Here's their response:
With OTA software upgrades, it's a bit iffy. In some circumstances, update sofware is provided to local stores, who should be able to update the phone for you (policies on this differ from carrier to carrier, where some may be okay with updating an unlocked phone, and others won't).
Sometimes, a downloadable version can be found on our website for the phone in question:
http://www.htc.com/ca/support/incredibles-bell/downloads/
Each device has a specific address that it checks for its updates. Theoretically, the unlocking process shouldn't change that. Your device should still continue to recieve updates, however, it really depends on Bell's update policy when it comes to phones no longer on their network.

Hello everybody. My phone is bought with contract on Orange in UK, software is 1.28.61.7, but the phone isn't carrier locked. May it be the reason why I don't get update to 1.29... with new camera update and so on? Maybe the phone may be different form international version in this way? Is there any way of making my phone to international eupopean version (if it isn;t now)? After everything i want to have my phone not-rooted, and get updates from htc ota with everybody else... Don't know, if i asked correctly and everybody understand me, but thanks in advanced anyway.
Umh, also in germany O2 One aren't branded, but the update is released from O2, in fact, O2 phone can't see and don't have 1.29.401.12 version...
They have 1.29.209.xx version, i don't remeber which with precision.
However, i resolved this problem with root and flashing a custom rom
EE seems to be the slowest of all the UK carriers at pushing out updates, you'll probably be waiting for another good few weeks yet. Might want to try this rom since apparently you can keep OTA updates with it:

If you flash stock boot.img and recovery.img it should, yeah. Coming from Samsung myself it was a bit weird getting things going initially, read through this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
Hey!
I can't seem to get the OTA updates. I rooted and unlocked the bootloader, do you think that has to do with it? I've read several people that say they've gotten such updates, but I've been using the phone for two weeks now and I haven't received not even one.
EDIT: Already tried unroot and flashing the original recovery. None worked.

Just speculating. But apparently one needs to unroot and re-flash the stock recovery menu in order to get OTA updates.

Hi!
I have an HTC One M7, which has an AT&T logo on the back, but it works with all the carriers.
Here are my questions:
What are the lastest Android and Sense versions for the HTC ONE M7?
Where can i download the official versions of these updates?
Since my HTC is unlocked but it has an AT&T logo in the back, should i install the versions for Unlocked phones or fot AT&T ones? I don't want to brick it.
Thanks in advance.
Also, when i go to software updates, it says my phone is udpated, even tho im on android 4.4.2

As it is an ATT version on a stock rom it will only get updates from ATT. This is why it says it is up to date.
If i use a ROM meant for unlocked phones on my phone, will i brick my HTC?
Thanks
I have a "manufacturer refurbished" AT&T branded M7 purchased almost a year ago from eBay. I'm not located in the US and the phone hasn't seen any updates (still in an older revision of KitKat from memory). Is that due to the phone not being on the AT&T network?
It's my SO's phone and I've not made it my concern until now with obvious concerns of the Stage Fright exploit known to be in the wild. The phone is rooted with TWRP and is S-ON. I have my own M7 which is S-OFF typically running an ASOP rom (XenonHD currently).
So what are my options here. I know my SO would be OK sticking with something stock and if things go sideways then it's not something I've done On the other hand, going S-OFF and super CID seems to be the easiest path to me.
So what I am asking for:
What's the easiest path to stock on this phone given that I'm not physically in the US with it or even have an AT&T SIM? RUU? If I go the S-OFF route should I flash interim firmware or just the most recent lollipop?

Imo, better to s-off change your CID to BS_US001 convert to the developer edition using a RUU.
