Is There Way to Unroot for Warranty? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am planning on rooting, but probably not until there is an option to unroot incase I have to repair it or sell it. I can't seem to find any information on unrooting the One. Is it possible? If so, which root method is unrootable or are all of them (if there are multiple methods) unrootable?

bump

The obvious way is to re-lock the bootloader and run the appropriate RUU which is what I have always fallen back on in the past to return to stock usually to prepare for ota updates. Unfortunately, it appears that there are very few RUU leaks for this device therefore no escape routes after rooting especially for those like me who have a network branded device (for the first time ) Roll on s-off then all our problems will be solved

[Q] root by using exploit

Hi,
I'm looking to root my HTC One. I know the easy way is to unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash su, done, but there is that part about "may void your warranty". I read that HTC will still repair hardware issues even if the bootloader is unlocked, but still I'm curious about different ways to root.
So... as far as I can tell by looking at the htcdev kernel source the kernel is vulnerable to the sw_perf_event exploit (http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/121616/semtex.c), and than there is this project https://github.com/android-rooting-tools/libperf_event_exploit.
I was wondering if anyone made that exploit work on the M7 (aka found the right offset) and also if you think it would be worth rooting with that. I guess I won't be able to flash new ROMs as the bootloader would still be locked, right? Or will I be able to flash the recovery partition withoud needing to unlock the bootloader (I guess not)?
Thanks

this is false. you will have to pay for any repairs performed on the device.
Blanket statements like this are troublesome. The warranty coverage varies by country. I've had warranty replaced phones that were rooted with no problem here in the US

Stuck trying to get back to unlock/root

I got my phone back from repair and I'm confused ass to what to do next. I'm set to 'relocked' bootloader, but s-off without recovery or su apparently on 4.3. Every guide I find requires me to do something that causes things to come to as halt. Unless I'm doing something wrong I can't flash a recovery due to some error, then can't flash anything through recovery obviously, and I tried rumrunner but that stalls out after some point saying 'device is not rooted AND unsecure kernel'. What do I do next? Will HTCDev work? That's how I originally unlocked at release.
Really need help here, leaving the country for 3 weeks thursday morning and want to be back in business.
included pic of bootloader
yeah unlock again at htc dev then you will be able to flash a recovery
Or look here
[how to] lock/unlock your bootloader without htcdev(s-off required)
Thanks, had a feeling I needed to HTCDev again but didn't want to risk it given my limited time. Took some tinkering but looks like I'm unlocked and rooted again. Thanks BD.

[Q] Rooting and OTA updates on moto X (xt1052)

I have a Moto X -Xt1052 in India. I would like to root it and install Xposed framework. I am running kitkat 4.4.4
I would like to know is there any rooting method that wont affect OTA upadtes Because some people say thay if you unlock bootloader and You try OTA you brick your device. is it true???
and is there any way to reverse all this : Bootloader unlocking> getting back stock recovery> unroot complely so that there is no harm when you Update via OTA.
M really confused as there are mixed view over internet..
a few items to clear up....
The ability to root, and how you root vary depending on if you have unlocked your bootloader (or can you) or not, and what rom you have.
Being rooted itself does not impact the ability or inability to take an OTA. Its additional mods like custom recovery (you need to flash stock recovery back on before taking an OTA or you'll be stuck in a boot loop), deleting bloat (common in the USA where carriers like Verizon install a lot of extra apps and stuff as part of their rom), etc. The OTA performs a validation check before it installs. Modify too much on your phone and you will probably touch something that will cause the validation check to fail, and the OTA wont install.
Xposed gets in the way of OTA updates. You need to disable it or un-install it before taking an OTA.
I have never seen an unlocked bootloader be the cause of bricking a phone, taking an OTA or otherwise.
Attempting to down grade your ROM then later taking an OTA can/will brick your phone. But if you've never tried to downgrade your rom, there is nothing to worry about.
Once you unlock your bootloader, there is no need to re-lock it. It wont get in the way of an OTA. There is a process re-lock your bootloader if you want, but there is no reason to. Also keep in mind there are 3 states of the Moto X bootloader. 1. Locked - as it ships from the factory, 2. Unlocked - after you get your bootloader unlock code and use it, 3. Re-Locked - after you follow the process to relock the bootloader. And Once unlocked, we can only toggle it to RELOCKED. We can't set it back to LOCKED.
There are many ways to get back to "stock" after rooting and modifying your phone. I've outlined a few HERE

Is it possible to root on 5.1.1

T-Mobile just pushed out the 5.1.1 update this morning and I hopped on it instantly. I was just wondering is it possible to root my phone in its current state (23.4.A.0.580) or do I have to downgrade and then upgrade again? This is my first real phone and I want to debloat it and get AdAway and all of the other fun Android stuff to get the best experience. I still have a 1.5 year warranty and from what I read unlocking my bootloader will void that. Are there any methods/guides to root my phone, downgrade, root, then upgrade again, etc. without unlocking my bootloader? Thanks in advance!

I'm also quite new on this phone - But after reading this (the OP and thread!), you'll know everything needed!
But to answer your queston: You have to go back to KK to do initial rooting...

Regarding root with locked bootloader, need some help

Hello, i have a retail xt1097, its already updated to marshmallow, dont really need to be root forever but i need at least temporal root to do some one-time minor changes, such as install my desired launcher as system, led for battery, hostfile and such.
The problem is i dont want to unlock the bootloader untill warranty expires (still 7 months of warranty) so the question is if any app/exploit, can temp root this device, under MM.
*Tryed searching and i found kingoroot does the trick but im not sure if it will work on MM, i cant mess up bricking phones now because im not be able to repair them since weather its hot, people overload powerlines and electricity drops all the time and makes my pc suddently power off.
Any advice? Thanks guys
As far as I know root isn't possible with locked bootloader.
There has been quite a bit of discussion (I think most of what I read was on other forums) about Motorola's warranty policy for unlocked bootloaders: it seems that from what people have experienced they will still honor the warranty if it is strictly a hardware problem. I bought my phone used but with over a year of Moto Care remaining, which the original owner transferred to me. He (the original owner) had already unlocked the bootloader, but the Moto Care is still shown as active and valid on my account, even though I don't even have stock rom anymore. Just to be safe I would definitely (if possible) re-flash stock rom prior to making any warranty claim.
Hmm makes sense, then can i unlock BL, root, do my things, then unroot, flash stock recovery and relock? is that posible? does it need a custom kernel too? im ok with the stock rom just need few one-time tweaks...
Unless you really use Moto Voice a lot I would just install the newly released CM14.1, and if you ever need warranty work try to reflash stock beforehand. Otherwise, flash twrp, root, etc.... That is covered in the general section, probably linked to some of the stickies at the top of the page. I'm not sure if it will work for you to make system modifications and then try to relock bootloader. I think part of relocking the bootloader includes flashing the stock rom, which would undo any changes you have made.
