OK,
coming from a Iphone has my contacts transfered to the HTC one, I havent logged onto my gmail account just logged into google play.
Under phone I only have 1 contact name. when i click on phone on the top left I uncheck SMS, google, and etc and only leave Phone checked so I wont sync any other contacts.
when i want to send a sms and click the + sing and type a name there is duplicate name on all contacts. only in msg do i see double.
Any help on this would be help full. I know to export contacts from Icloud and then import them to phone but Im trying not to do a lot of work and going that rout. is there a easy way one this?
Update Figured it out
to resolve this issue open people then on the top left click click phone book with the down arrow. I had gmail 146 and phone book 140. so what i did was uncheck phone book click gmail and those contacts loaded. then top right click the 3 dots and click delete contacts. check all and delete all contacts.
once that was done click on phone book again uncheck gmail and check phone book. all 140 contacts loaded. now when i go to sms no double contacts listed.

Your actually going to want your contacts on Google rather than on phone, unless your some sick and twisted weirdo. You can move all your phone contacts easily by using the option in the contacts area.

Rydah805 thanks for the reply however I may not be sick or a wierdo. I have the gmail accout for the playstore but not as a primary email, I use another email and dont care to have my contacts on gmail. How ever I did make a CVS file from my primary email to have them in case of emergency.

I have contacts on my phone most of them don't have email accounts they are just phone numbers. When I try to sync my contacts to the gmail account on my phone none of the numbers show up in my gmail account contacts listing. However, if I have contact phone numbers in my gmail account and do a sync, the phone numbers come to my phone. Basically, it is like the sync is only working in one direction. How can I fix this?
I'm fairly confident the sync does only work in that one direction...someone else correct me if I'm wrong?

when you add a contact on your phone, you have to choose "google" as where it's saved or else it won't sync to google

Ok, so how do you add the google 'g' to contacts you already have on your phone without just recreating them all?

I am not in front of my phone, but there is an option to export all contacts to a file and then an option to import them. I imported all my mine and added them to "phone" so i could add custom ringtones.
You may be able to add them all to google on the phone the same way.
There is also a market app for exporting contacts to csv - you may be able to do this then import through google on the desktop. YOu can use the linking feature to link phone contacts to google contacts.
I have all contacts on my sim card. How do i put some of these in my favorites tab ? Do you have to add new contact to get pictures/special ringtones ... for the existing numbers ?

I think the contacts has to be on the phone for that. And why are you not doing that?. I have all my contacts on Google, which means that the second I get a new android device I have my contacts etc up and running within minutes of powering on my phone

Can i import my contacts from my P990 to my Gmail/ contacts ?
Im not sure which LG phone the P990 is unless its actually the LG 2x . But yes you can.
The trick is importing all the contacts from sthe sim to the phone. And then change the contact "setting" from Phone to Gmail/Google and then it all gets synched there.
Only downside is that all contacts that you have on Google that emails you and such, gets synched to the phone as well. So I regularly go through my google contacts and clean them out to remove all those contacts I dont want. Either that or simply choose not to show contacts without a phone number in my list of contacts on my phone.

You could assign a group to those contacts you want to show in the phones contact list, and on the phone filter by that group.
To import contacts from X2 to gmail it needs CSV- or vCard-file ?
No,
are the contacts on your phone now, or still on your SIM?

I have them on my phone
Im not sure how you do it on the LG, but I know I had the option to change a contat from being just a phone contact and change it into being a google one. Being a google one meaning that it would sync to googles cloud and thus be accessible on every android device I would ever own.
wrong section, stupid search when making new posts...
At one time I was able to save contacts to gmail. I no longer get this option and when I sync "Contacts" the newest ones do not make it to my GMail account. How do I fix this, and/or how do I set GMail as default save location? Thank you, sorry if this has been covered a lot. I was unable to find my same problem via search.
nobody? 10char..
Info might help... what ROM are you running? Are the contacts saved to phone or SIM currently? If you add a contact to your Google account (from the gmail web) does it make it to the phone? Does anything else Google sync like calendar, reader, etc?

Cog 4. All contacts saved to gmail. Unless they're new they saved to phone and cant sync to gmail. Hence this thread. Was able to sync them by putting them into gmail first and syncing to phone. But how do I go back to doing it from phone to gmail? There use to be an option after I would insert a new contact.

Sounds like one if 2 things. A bad flash or Gmail not being set up on the phone. Everytime I add a new contact it gives me the option to save to Gmail as long as Gmail is installed on the phone.

I had the same sort of problem after flashing Cog 5 beta 2. The phone never asked me where to save the contact the first time and it defaulted to the phone. While in the contact app, hit menu/more/settings and select where to save new contacts.
Hope this helps!

I am having strange problem.. I have 2 or 3 contacts of the same name and email ID listed in my contacts .. donno why there is a duplication ..
may be it is one of the side effects of all the ROM changes
Can anyone tell me if there is any tool that will delete the duplicate contacts and merge similar contacts for once and all ??
I hate to see duplicates when am searching for a number...
You can "join" contacts together.
They might have done that because of different services/apps that sync contacts. I have that too. Like Facebook and Google. I just joined them together.
Hey there
its not because of changing rom, but because you may had updated contacts via google and facebook, as already stated that you can join contacts, as well as connect your mobile via kies and go to contacts and you can delete multiple contacts which wont have number...

Best and easiest solution is Download Go contacts EX from Play store for free.
Open Go contacts - menu- Merge - By name / by number / by Email...
That's It...

I think this is what you need to do...go to your gmail account, better from your pc/laptop for quicker result. Under google logo, click on "gmail" and then choose "contacts", you'll be presented with contacts manager, now the word "gmail" have changed to "contacts", look further right you'll see a dropdown dialog called "more", click that and select "find and merge duplicates".
Click "thanks" if it helps you...

Either way should work, but I prefer using my laptop screen as it's a lot bigger while fine tuning my contacts details.
I did that from my PC and swell.. it did merge a staggering 1500 contacts :-D ...
It looks much more neat now.. All i have to do now is merge the contact between FB and Google ..
Now comes the second interesting part.. once i join the FB and Gmail contacts ... lets say I wiped the data and moved to a custom ROM.. Will I have to join the contact again at that point ??

I think you'll have to join the FB and Gmail contacts again, but that would not be much difficult as your phone will automatically suggest to join those contacts as long as they use same email address in both FB and Gmail.

To remove all the contacts, go to Settings/Apps and clear data for Contacts and Contacts Storage.. that will delete all the contacts from your phone.. but with the next sync, all will come again..
EDIT: to permanently remove the contacts, calendar entries from your phone, clear data for contacts and calendar and then remove the google account..
Note: that does not remove your contacts and calendar entries from google.. once you configure the same gmail id, all will be synced again..

Is your google sync on and do you take and restore local backup of your contacts? Looks like your contacts at google are messed up.. so what you can do is to go to contacts.google.com and clear out the entries.. then sync your phone..
Later when you create a new contact, make it a google contact.. the above option will work then and you will alleviate the risk of replicating your contacts..
I had also faced the same issue where before flashing a ROM I used to take a local copy and then restore.. it resulted in multiple entries for same contact and calendar at google's end..
But what if I don't want to sync my phone with google?

In that case, after you have configured your phone with your google account, go to settings/Accounts and select google.. there uncheck all the entries you do not want to sync.. for example if you want to sync only gmail, then uncheck all other than gmail..
ok that works, thanks!
But annoying to always delete these google account contacts

it is the design.. perhaps some later android release will ask whether the user wants to sync contacts etc.. till then we need to live with it..
