[Q] Black Model: No Backlight On Capacitive Buttons? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
the capacitive buttons on my black HTC One do not light up. I couldn't find any setting which toggles the backlight or did I miss something?
Is this normal/different for the black version?

try covering the top part of the phone and see if it lights up.

i find its app dependent.. or so i thought. maybe it is just lighting?

Is it possible to make the buttons to light while the screen is on?

ATT Tilt KEYS backlight

hi all
i just noticed on my tilt that all the keys light up except for the navigation keys..
is this normal or do I need to get my fone exchanged?
When you recover from a suspend/sleep only the screen lights.
If you tap on the screen only the screen will light.
If you slide out the keyboard only the screen and keyboard will light. The keyboard lights will timeout before the screen.
If you press the dpad, any of the front buttons, or any of the side buttons, (except power) they should all light up but will time out before the screen does.
Actually i was talking more about when you hit one of those green/red/ok/msg/windows/navigation buttons..
does the 5 way navigation also light up(Like the edges)..
No, 5 way dpad itself is solid and does not glow even around the edge.

How does the LED function?

I am using HTC Touch Diamond, it has a LED just above the touch screen in the earpiece... I tried my best to figure out as how and when it functions!!... can anyone help??
Hi!
I also noticed it. But its an light sensor. If you have the "dynamic backlight" turned on, you can test it. Hold your finger over it, and your backlight should become darker.

screen edge light bleed

Today I've noticed that there is a light bleed on edge of my screen when I look at it with angle. I do not know if it was there before or it is new,but I've noticed when I was trying to root my 2.3.4 update!
any idea? should I take my phone to guarantee service?
Thanks!
Check your phone with the (uhh..) key combination
It's 3845#*970# in my country, don't know if yours the same
do some search
But if it's clearly a screen bleed, take it to the center

I noticed too that the bottom end of the screen, shows some "bleeding" when in total black.
I carefully watched though, that, it's not color bleeding or LCD issue, it's the capacitive buttons back-light which glares from the inside of the screen film.
I turned off the back-light of the capacitive buttons and my screen was plain black.
Give it a try for yourself mate, if it's not plain smooth black, then it's indeed an LCD issue and you have to take it on a service center.
Thank you for replies!
as you see in below images the light is only visible in close angles.
Does anybody have the same problem?
I've tried 3845#*970# and no problem found.
Thanks!
the left one ? the strip of light ?
i think it's just the led

Button backlights not working

Even in a dark room the backlights for home and back do not light up. The only way to light them is to cover the top of the phone. Any suggestions? Thanks
I found my answer to this. The light sensor is too sensitive...it does not work as it should. The sensor is the top left corner circle on the front of the phone. I just put a piece of black tape over it. Now the backlight buttons stay lit and I can see them in a dimly lit room.
ha. :silly:
I didn't even know they had lights?
Learn something everyday.:good:
I really don't want top have to put tape on my pretty new phone. But I'm glad to find out that I can cover the light sensor and then the buttons will show up. Hopefully that will get fixed with an update
I'm using an app: capacitive buttons backlight (i think it's called)
Edit: Capacitive Buttons Brightness
