Hey guys,
I own both the bell version of the xperia z, and the T-Mobile version. I ONLY want to use them as glorified tablets. Basically like the Ipod touch version of the iPhone, I want to use them unactivated. For me, its all about customibility and I really want to unlock the bootloader. I know neither of these can be unlocked, but in theory, if i wrote the software of the global unlockable versions (c6602/c6603) which DO allow for unlocked bootloader, would I be able to do it? I know signal would be screwy with the radios, but i dont care since thats irrelevant to me. Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Short answer: Never going to happen.
So its impossible to write c6602/3 software to it? Longer answer would be nice : P

Sorry, you can't unlock the bootloader if a device says: "bootloader unlock allowed: no" which is if you have a branded device. If you try it, you'd better throw it away.
If u can root everything is possible. As long as there's someone who provide geeky solutions
And under your situation u don't need flash different rom as there's a way to install recovery without unlocked bootloader in rooted phone.

hey, thanks a ton for the responses guys! So, is there ANY possible way I can get cyanogenmod installed on either my c6616 or c6606? (Bell and t-mobile)w
I don't have your phones so I cannot guaranty but you can try my method.
I got a c6603 from vodafone, and use ota to update to 4.3.
Since the 4.3 cannot root and I dont want unlock bl. so I use these steps
1. downgrade phone by flashtool to a version which can be rooted.
2. root
3. install recovery in locked BL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...cked-bootloader-cwm-recovery-6-0-2-8-t2187363
4. Choose whatever rom you like and flash it.
DONE!
You cannot use custom kernels on a locked bootloader, so you cannot run CM, PA, AOSP etc.
Stock based roms only. There's no way around it.

Awesome tips guys! Got recovery working and its all good- just ONE last thing:
are there any vanilla style roms out there like cyanogen that are stock based? I just want my pure android with some nice customizable features, no kernel updates or anything. Can you suggest any?
Hi,
My Xperia SP has a locked bootloader, and cannot be unlocked.
I have rooted the device already.
I am looking for a ROM which is Android 5.0 or above, which I can use on a locked bootloader.
I saw VanirAOSP but that looks to no longer be available, the 5.1..1 download link just hangs.
Appreciate if anyone can advice me of one.
Also, I do need the camera and the phone to be working, I was reading on some Cynogenmod based ones but read that the phone didn't work, which would be no use to me.
Thanks

Hi all!
Loving my new device!
I bought it from Gearbest and it's the International version that came with an unlocked bootloader and the Official Global ROM installed (no idea how they unlocked the bootloader).
Just after I booted it for the first time I got the official update to MIUI 10 and everything went perfectly.
My question is: should I reflash the official China ROM and relock the bootloader just to be able to unlock it again on my own? What's the advantage of doing it since it's already unlocked and with an official ROM?
Is it safer? Can I be in trouble in the future if I don't do it?
Sorry for asking this basic question, but this is a new ecosystem for me.
Cheers!

A good question, and yes, if you want to have control of your phone, this is a good idea, but you will wait btw 15-20 days
Surely a lot of guys including me are waiting for Vivo z1 pro development to kick off, but the harsh truth is that currently the future of Vivo z1 pro's android development looks bleak.
Why? you ask.
Because right now Vivo does not support bootloader Unlocking. NO. NIET. NEE. NAHI.
Now, when realme devices were new they were the same, no bootloader unlock support, but there was a demand for it and after sometime they allowed unlocking bootloader.
But surprisingly, I haven't seen a single demand for bootloader Unlocking of Vivo z1 pro neither from the users nor the YouTubers or bloggers.
Check xda for other vivo phones, they all have little or no development, all because of a locked bootloader from vivo.
So guys we need to make some noise to get bootloader unlock support for z1 pro,if we want development for z1 pro.
:good:

I have no idea actually.
But, bombarding tech YouTubers and bloggers with comments related to this and asking them to make some noise may help and might be a good place to start.

What do you mean ?
It's the case for all ROMs and all phones
i mean instead of flashing an android rom, to flash a linux rom.
but when you say its the same trouble with bootloader unlocking, then its senseless
