dont think so - from what I have been reading you have to unroot your device to install the rom

Well, you're rooted and unlocked so all you really need to do is flash a recovery then choose one of the ROMs we have available.
The ROM developers generally have the latest updates rolled out LONG before carrier modded devices.
The ROMs available have many different flavours: Stock, Stock with theming, OC/UV capable, etc. Take your pick.

First you should have posted this in the General section for help and assistance. Once you S-Off and install ClockworkMod during the rooting process, you will not be able to flash OTA updates from your carrier because you no longer have the stock HTC recovery installed.
You are better off installing one of the fully rooted GB Roms or check and see if your carrier's GB RUU (Rom update utility) is posted in the RUU thread and flash that.

Im going to lose root after this RUU update?
prerequisite:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562890
and the AT&T section included...
Yes you will lose root and you would also need to relock your bootloader as well.

MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!
Make sure that if you have a custom recovery that is is updated & double check that it is. Write the version numbers down to confirm, both before & after.
There was an early recovery that could not (CANNOT) be overwritten without flashing a modified PH39IMG file first, then flashing stock or new modified recovery.
If you update with your device with that original recovery, you may be very sorry.
Ok so I put the ICS that Pirate put up before he got mad and took it down. Doing what I had to do in order to get that on my ohone, does that, mean I'm already set to use this RUU and get the "official" ICS update if I so choose?
Sent from my HTC Vivid using xda premium
No you need to relock the bootloader in order to use the RUU.
Ok that's what I had thought, just all this talk of different recoveries and stuff started to confuse me lol... Thanks for the help

Stock Vivid and Beyond ICS
After reading some of the posts - I have a few questions.
I have a stock AT&T Vivid. I believe I can just install the following directly - correct?
http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe
Then after upgrade to ICS -- can some one point me to the correct direction to ROOT and SIM UNLOCK the Vivid after I upgrade to ICS?
Thank you!
Run the ruu...Unsure of which tools exactly are for just rooting youl, have to either call att for a simunlock code or purchase one from online

So, just to confirm, I assume that "YES" I can run the update on stock AT&T (no rooting required) and then after I upgrade to ICS any RUU will root -- nothing special to root ICS?
Thank you!

RUU=ROM Update Utility. These are full builds released from HTC that will NOT have root. A lot of custom ROMs are built from an RUU, but rooted during the cooking process.
thanks works great! a little slow on my virtual machine windows but that's not the ruu's fault, it's my lack of memory. one thing it doesn't tell you is to put it into fastboot mode.
do we know if Rogers Raider can work with this ?
anybody with rogers already flashed this, please confirm.
Look 4 posts up I already said it will only work for att

Stock Rooted Odex/Deodex

Disclaimer: Flash this ROM at your own risk. I am not responsible for what you do on your device. I left this stock to provide a base for anybody that wants to use it. Mod this rom how you want. Just please remember to give credit where credit is due.
This is a pure stock rooted rom. It has items like busybox, init.d support and so forth. No apps were added or removed. Both Odexed and Deodexed versions below.
This is using stock unmodified kernel from HTC. Kernel source can be grabbed from HTCDev

There are few zip's. Could you please advise me which one should I flash? Thanks.

Yes that's due to system protection in the kernel. Can't fix it till HTC releases kernel source. If you want to remove something you have to do it in recovery

Has anyone that flashed 1.08 either manually or via actual OTA lost LED function? Like doesn't show for charging or notifications?
EDIT: nvm. They put an option to turn it on and off in display settings

That option was there before too, but it reset it to "off" after updating. It's off by default in the shipped rom too, for some odd reason.

Just follow this instruction:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256439
It's the only way to do it if you are on JB rom. There were other easier way to do on GB and ICS, but they don't work on JB.
Keep in mind that since you are on JB, there is no way for you to use any GB or ICS rom. Not even if you install safestrap and custom roms.
When going through the process, make sure that you select the correct network device! I was on a laptop and it defaulted to my wired network even though I was on wifi.
I was planning to install liquid smooth 4.2.2 official . so I would have to downgrade? Since I can't install safe strap..?

My understanding is that you are on stock JB right now.
So stay on that. Go through root using the link I provided.
After you get root, install safestrap 3.11 (don't use newer version, they have problems).
then you can install any 4.1 or newer Android on the slots in safestrap.
Perfect!! Thanks!! I shall root and install safe trap. Thanks again for your help!!:thumbup::thumbup:

[Q] How do I update a rooted device without stock recovery?

I rooted the phone and replaced the stock recovery a while ago. I keep getting these damn notifications to upgrade, I know it doesn work with a modified recover. It's beginning to annoy me.
What would be the easiest way to upgrade the HTC one?

Where can I find the prerooted stock roms?
I'm not quite ready for a custom ROM. I've been following the progress of a couple though. It always seems like there is never a final version to custom ROMS and usually a couple useful features are sometimes missing.

Same forum you find the custom ROMS in.
And even with stock ROMs there's never a final version, hence you wanting to update the device. Read, learn, get your feet wet.
Otherwise, just reflash stock recovery and let it update when there's an update.

Thanks, I've been to the deep end and back. Been lurking since thread one. You see I've been around a long time and don't post very often. I browsed through all 9 pages of the htc One android development threads but didn't find it. I did a couple of searches and didn't find it, I posted in the questions hoping to get links for reference and well because that what it is there for.
Edit: I looked again and found it. Thanks again for your help.
