with odin you can flash both .tar and .tar.md5 while selecting the package just select .tar.md5 if your odin cant do it then get a new version

as long as you dont need root stay on stock or you can flash a rooted one and then unroot it. you will brick it if you get the wrong package. follow the instructions and proceed. nothing will happen.
A file.MD5 is a checksume. It is needed to check file integrity.

if I'd wanna do it, directly, i flash my phone from the top... in fact, i've had to do it some times...
Yes you can, I already did too.
Flash the phone directly with Odin:
http://www.faq4mobiles.de/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=9026
and choose one of this firmware:
http://www.samfirmware.com/fwandroid.htm
You need be register there to download and after you find all official firmware and how you flash too.
Ok.. Thanks guys... Will try it on weekday and post the result ...

Follow the steps mentioned by Dr Ketan above. Use Winrar to extract your zImage file. Or any zipping software u use or comfortable with !

What does "N extract" and "N Flash" mean? Do you mean "AND extract" and "AND flash"?
If I am misunderstanding you or something then I apologize but if you are meaning to say the word "AND" when you use the letter "N" then please use proper grammar as it is quite confusing.
Thanks...

Jesus! Someone actually went through the trouble to read your post "N" answer your question; "N" you ****ing correct them?
If you know how to use Mobile ODIN, then you know exactly what he was talking about. So you were just being an asshat. I hope you **** up your bootloader.

Just chill, Jesus.
Not everybody here is an English native speaker!
Don't be rude!
I also flashed the latest Kies-able Firmware and lost cwm due to the fact, that I can't inject the cwm with mobile odin pro. It's not like your tutorial (dr.ketan) cos where to get the cwm file you mentioned in there?
You can't extract anything from inside the zImage.
So you have to get the appropriate cf-root kernel,
extract the zImage (with winrar/winzip),
copy it (external or internal sdcard) and
use mobile odin pro ("Open file...", point to the zImage-location) to flash it.
Mobile odin pro checks the file and automatically set it as kernel.
You should check your CSC, cos flashing a multi-CSC is setting it to KOR
(means no kies-kompatibility/-updates).
Use the *2767*4387264636# to display, and *272*IMEI* to change it to your wanted CSC
(this will do a factory reset)!
Regards

Hi,
I'm looking to update my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 to the latest official Gingerbread released here in Australia. I have gone here to find and download the firmware. In all the videos I've watched, you're required to use multiple files in Odin to flash a firmware(pda, phone, csc, pit). My problem is though when I opened the downloaded firmware there was only one file, a .tar file. How would I go about flashing this?
Thanks.

Don't flash that. You may run into a problem. I recommend you use GB flashing kit from here: http://d-h.st/4np and flash it. Its for galaxy s. Its got everything you need. If you want a step by step instruction go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966. That is how to use it. I hope I helped! It worked for me!

Exactly at the end of flashing 4.4 it gives error. It fails.
Maybe first flash pit and do re-partition and then flash 4.4?
Do you know where can I find g900f pit file?

I see that there is some people he does not even have to flash their original flash
now they want come back to kitkat with a dangerous method for novice
if you fail to flash this rom who y want flash it not for y phone ( not same pit )
ty flashing your original rom not random rom from sam
I succeed why not you ( i have knox 0x1 )
1- wipe all ( or reset F )
2- flash with odine you latest kitkat ( with same latest bootloader ) ( the major problem some people don't know here original rom)
3- reset f
i wana downgrade is it possible by not wiping data?

Battery life on 4.4 is way better. L needs to be more polished. No project volta is there as far as i check in 4 days
I return to kit kat from lollipop when I find the first firmware for my sm-g900f and after flash with Odin when phone restart you need to of the phone go in recovery factory reset and wipe check partition and restart phone. You are now in 4.4.2

Pit file method didn't work for me. All I had to do was to find exact rom that came with the phone. Then it went through without any error message.
