[Q] Help needed with lockin amd unlocking bootloader. - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a few questions about locking and unlocking bootloader.
1. After unlocking we lose the DRM keys. Which apps will no longer work?a list would be useful.
2. If i relock my bootloader again will the DRM keys be restored and ca i use those apps again?
Thank you!

1. Check this thread
2. They won't be restored. There's a way you can make a backup of your TA partition here.

Xperia Z DRM keys back?

So I never wanted to unlock my bootloader, because of Gracenote especially, idc about BE2 , but I installed a custom ROM the other day, existens i1 Honami, but I got stuck in a bootloop.
I had a nandroid backup but it was done from CWM, and the one was TWRP, so I was kind of screwed. I installed other zips to get cwm, but CWM wouldnt launch, I would get a black screeen, Even dual recoveries, TWRP would work, but not CWM.
Then I was forced to unlock bootloader to use fastboot to flash the boot img, after which I managed to restore my nandroid.
BUT i totally forgot that I will lose all my data, and DRM keys forever :/ *BANGS HEAD*
But apparently its working right now after the backup, is it normal? Bootloader is relocked btw
And is there any easier way to solve the situation right there?
Bump, come on someone answer, I thought this forum was alive
No way to get DRM keys back.
I remember when I was unlocking my bootloader I backed up my DRM keys with the Backup TA tool......Could you use my backup file??!

Please do not use other's TA backup file!!!!
You will brick your phone as this has been confirmed.
You can only use back your own TA backup. If you did not do it before you unlocked, your DRM key is losts no matter whether you relock your bootloader subsequently.

Only if he doesn't ever want to use his phone again.
Technically there shouldn't be any problem transferring DRM keys between devices, but we must first figure out how they are stored in the TA partition, since copying that entire partition changes some essential data rendering the device unbootable.

He was right to issue a warning. Flashing somebody else's TA partition will cause an unrecoverable hard brick.

If I didn't have my DRM keys, I wouldn't be able to use Gracenote, is that right?
TrackID? You should still be able to use it without issue. It has become a public application in Google Play now, not limiting to Sony phones.
I'm wild guessing that the retrieval of music info from the WALKMAN app may fail.
You can try out for yourself since you unlocked your bootloader.

The problem with some users over here is they gave wrong advice and end up causing someone's misery. Afterall we are helping one another to resolve our issues or to prevent things from going haywire, don't you think so?
I've lost DRM keys and Camera don't working right now. Any way for fix camera?

dont know. I lost mine to.
but i have been trying last 10 days to extract download_package.bin which is ota update for my phone if it contain cert.rsa for my Hardware Unique Key Then I m quiet sure that creating meta-inf file using that key will get us back DRM keys.
Waiting Any PRO or thread to guide us.
As far as i know it's impossible if you didn't made ta backup before unlocking your bootloader.
O have a ta backup and im on existenz and doomkernel is it possible to restore my ta now? And still have the benifits of a unlocked bootloader?

No. If you restore your TA backup while running a custom kernel, it will relock your bootloader and soft brick your phone.

If you relock your bootloader by restoring a TA backup while on a stock unmodified kernel then nothing bad should happen.
This limits you to using only stock based roms, however as CM/AOSP/AOKP based roms require a custom kernel and therefore an unlocked bootloader.

So for the hole ''flash history'' the Kernel is always that important thing we have to give a look on it? The other part of a ROM are more or less not important?
So when I have a unlocked device with stock kernel and stock based custom ROM I can restore the TA without any problems?
Is there a way to check the drm keys, if they are realy there?and a way to check if be2 works? (build prop line) or something

[Q] Relocking Bootloader on Stock Rom with TA Restore

Hi guys
I'm pretty new to the XZ and just wanted to clarify something before I go ahead and flash a ROM.
I have backed up my TA Partition using TA-Backup Tool and have rooted my device.
I am about to install Recovery and Unlock the bootloader, all pretty straight forward from what I've read so far
My only question so far is, if / when I want to relock the bootloader can I simply do this using the "restore" option within TA-Backup Tool (providing I am on a Stock ROM), or do I need to Relock using Flashtool and then restore the TA partition?
Thanks
G
Just use ta backup to relock that will flash the ta partition you have backed up to a unlocked status with drm keys

Brilliant!! I'm assuming I can still do this even if the stock ROM has a Recovery such as CWM on it?
Yes but you need to remember what state you backed your phone's ta up with otherwise m5 key won't match

I've heard somewhere that if I unlock my bootloader that Mobile Bravia Engine won't work, is that true?

Apparently yes it is
You can preserve your drm key before and restore if ever you return to stock.
Plus if you look in the development section, I believe there is a guide to getting it working on unlocked bootloaders.
Xperia Z
If you havent unlocked your bl yet, you can backup ta partition before proceeding to unlock. After you unlocked you can simply restore ta parititon.
Be aware, for backup you need to be rooted your phone. And rooting not possible without unlocking the bl on the newly versions .569 and .101 (yet)

If you have unlocked bl nd did not backup ta then there is no chance you can get back drm keys bt there is a way to install bravia engine search in the forum.

So if my phone broke, I can't relock my booloader and send it to RMA?

If I relock my bootloader, without restoring TA partition (drm keys), will Mobile Bravia Engine 2 still work?

without restoring your drm keys at bootloader relock, you wont be able to re-unlock your bootloader.

is it possible to take backup & restore of Xperia Z3+ DRM Keys?

Hi, Is it possible to take backup & restore of DRM Keys of Xperia Z3+? After bootloader unlocking, is there is any chance of getting back the warranty? After Unlocking bootloader of Z3+, can I get the official updates? (restoring stock ROM without rooting)
Can anybody help me answer me about these?
Thanks in advance.
First, you should not use your email as a username.
Second, there is no known way of backing up DRM keys, but you can re-enable function of those using DRM restore (search the forum a bit). You can always relock the bootloader using Flashtool (again, search xda or Google) to regain warranty and also to get official updates. You can also flash any firmware using Flashtool without the need for official updates.
Oh and don't open three threads for three questions and especially not in general section but in Q&A...

Further, this is only step 1 of 2, hence did you try/do http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/root-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605 as well?
I Will perform this process in next week. But i better If someone already did tô tell If its works or not!

Yes, iovyroot allows you to back up your DRM and use it later to restore on locked bootloader, already done it and right now liking it so far. However, only 266 firmware is working. Other versions does not work.
