hehe couldn't resist to test it hahaha, but i read here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr7q6SbX8Do
that it takes a good hour to get the normal volume back... so i think it's normal
Well, after more than a half hour my volume got back.... so people who get this same problem, i think it has to do with some protection. The speaker have to be dry to get the normal volume back

Pre ordered from Hi (Netherlands) and got it yesterday
30m to an 1hour and the loudspeaker will be fine, the same thing happened my Xperia Z . Its a protection " Thing "
I expect this question to appear on forums everywhere as more people get this phone and try it out in water.
I must be too old and remember when everyone had a waterproof radio for the shower (as they were advertised everywhere as the perfect gadget gift idea).. Which was fine until water got on the speaker and it got all muffled. Same thing with the XZ! And perhaps why we don't all have radios in the shower anymore!

Whoops Ive called up three to exchange my Xperia Z as I thought it had developed a volume fault.
I also peeled of the screen protector as the operator had asked are you sure the screen protector plastic is still attached ?
Doooh
Now the question is to fit or not fit the new supplied screen protectors that came with in the box ??
The screen looks so much sharper and clearer without it.

It just happened to me. You know what I did? Placed the Z's speaker against my notebook's fan, like 10 cm away. In less than 10 mins I received a notification and the volume was high again! So I guess blowing it with hot air does the trick..
I have just ordered myself a c6603 model (UK) and was worried because my bro said that the z has speaker probs but now I have read this thread I am not worried anymore. It does make sense to lower the speaker volume when in water because if you think about it, when the speaker is on it vibrates causing pressure variation so in theory it could suck in water through the protective mesh at full volume. But my acro s doesn't lower the volume when under water or wet and its OK, strange how the z seems to need a little extra protection from water but then again it is an expensive device I suppose.

I had the same Issue, I read on a Forum this is normal after 1-2 Hours all Water was gone from the Speaker side and the Sound returned to the normal!
Guys, does it interfere the headset sound?
I mean, when my Z gets in the water, for about 1 hour I have both the loudspeaker and the earphones working with a very low volume...
So obv i wanted to test the whole " water proof " thing ..
did that .. when it came out everything is working fine, but the loud speaker is so quite now ... its also been an hour since it was under water ..
I have to have it on max for it to be heard at all ... and when i decrease the volume 3-4 clicks it doesnt sound like there is any decrease in sound.. only after half way does it get louder or quieter....
any thoughts? anyone else experience this?
So strange thing.... i factory reset the phone and now the speaker is LOUD!

That's normal, it can take up to 3 hours ro something before the speaker dries up, after that the volume will be back to the normal level.

That sucks . I just did the water test and the sound was low but after 10-20 minutes everything came back to normal. I would suggest you take it back to Sony.

I'd suggest tapping the phone to allow any remaining water to be released, or possibly using an air duster or hair dryer. You'd be surprised how long a drop of water can remain, and it will act just like water trapped in your ear after a trip to the swimming pool.

M8 put the speaker part on "RICE" and leave it there for 2 hours. If the problem after 2 hours is still there, take the phone to a Sony dealer. :good:
might be something to do with using the speaker after the phone has been in water.
i read that you're not supposed to use the phone's loud speaker for 3 hours after it's
been submerged in water, as that might cause damage to it. so definitely don't use the
speaker underwater!
I put my Xperia Z under the tap and noticed that the sound of the speaker is muffled out and is slowly packing up, is this normal?

Yeah it's in the manual. Although you'll have to grab the manual online. It says not to use the speaker until dry, which is up to three hours lol

Oh! I used with it wet! The next I'll know how to proceed!
"If water gets on the speaker, dry the speaker for approximately three hours before
using it again."
I found this in internet:
"The earpiece, loudspeaker and microphone are apparantly protected by a microporus membrane. Water molecules are unable to penetrate this as the pores are too small, but will obstruct passage of air (and thus sound) until they evaporate."
hey guys
i have got a problem with my phones's speaker... the first time i went to the pool with the phone i used just 10 seconds under the water to capture movie, after i got the phone out i couldnt hear anything after while like 3 or 4 hrs it became normal (tried sucking it -.- ) but the quality became shi*ty then after one week the phone got heated like it was burning after playing some games so i decided to put it under water for a second i also covered the speaker with my thumb but i guess it didnt work and again water went inside and now after two days the speakers quality is as bad as possible i cant understand anything from songs and its so low...
I just wanted to ask did u get the any problems like this ?
how can i solve it ? should i use the warranty to change the speakers? its a waterproof phone right they have to change it right?
So when u sucked it, that's when you couldn't understand the music? If so, you may possibly damaged the speaker.
Maybe try blowing it instead this time and maybe dry with a hair dryer??
Hope you get it sorted

im not sure if that was sarcastic or not... but anyway, i tried them before and they made to become louder but the quality is still bad

do not blow dry it with anything, it will damage the phone, especially the melting the glue.
just let it sit and it will dry itself.

3 days? wow....
how deep did you go into the pool?
IP57 = can be immersed in water up to 1m for 30 minutes without harmful quality of water ingress occurring.

not even 30cm i just shoved it in water for 10 scs thats it
If quality is bad, as opposed to just volume, you may have punctured the speaker membrane by sucking on it. If that's the case, you're screwed. Don't put it in water again until you know otherwise.
Also, I'd be careful putting it in water when it's hot, I've heard people have had the glass shatter by warming/cooling it too quickly, it's no different to any other glass, after all.

if you can take it back to the shop and get a new one then do it. Dont even bother telling them that you blew it with whatever.

Same here. Mine had more issues. There was some droplets forming inside the camera and then there was a white smudge in the LCD as well. I think there was some kind of a leak in mine. But those aren't there anymore, but the mic issue still prevails.
How long did you guys leave it be?
