I think the process is: unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash ROM, done. ROM should have root access by default.
That's if you don't mind leaving stock stock.

Ok there is some root process that requires "S - Off" before you can even root your phone... don't know what that means... :/

Easiest method by far.

That can't be used yet because only a few limited people have S-Off. Use the tutorial thread in development forum and that gives you a step by step guide of how to do it all.

Make sure you are flashing a 'super user' like software from cmd before you flash a new Rom, and I suggest having clock work mod recovery flashed, I currently have the touch one, but I think I prefer the classic. Some new roms are buggy with the touch

I unlocked and rooted my regular Sprint 32GB M7 and it went really smoothly - I used the All-In-One program with the Sprint version and there is a special Sprint SuperSU version that needs to be used for Sprint. I paid $200. for this phone - don't see any need for developer edition of phone.
---------- Post added at 09:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 AM ----------
Also I used the TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project) for my recovery and it works really smooth. Phone shows S-On - not sure what the difference would be if S-Off was showing.

How did you root it? if you used some "universal" rooter then the outcome is pretty expected. Our device structure is a "bit" different, so you should follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928509 (Make sure you have read and understood everything, including unlocked bootloader)
On the other hand, if you did followed that guide and completed all the steps, it may be the case that your phone is rooted, but just it doesn't show itslef up. Just install any program that require root permissions (Titanium Backup, for instance) and launch it. If Superuser screen pops up asking for permission - you are done. If not - the link is above

Okay thank you very much. I got Titanium Backup and then the superuser screen popped up, so i guess it is rooted
EDIT: But then how come i can't use any of the hack tool like Game Killer, GameCIH/2, Freedom and Game Guardian???
cause it says "deny root" or "Root privilege required".

Okay so after i backup my rom. Then do i just install it or do i have to do a factory reset? And is this for JB 4.1.2?
Oh and can i install Omars rom after i root it?
If you use Omars Rom you don't have to root. Just use cwm to install the Rom.

Hi all, I done a search but seems the answers aren't making sense to me.
I have an O2 HTC One.
Basically I unlocked my bootloader successfully and then I installed TWRP 2.6.3.0 and booted into this and installed Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip. Phone rebooted and no issues.. I downloaded Root Checker and it says I am not rooted at all and gives me no notification to allow SuperUser access. Any idea whats wrong ? Everything is stock and I know people are going to say why root on stock rom, its just a beginnner thing for me! I need to get my head around simple things like this.
Thanks

why not just flash a custom rom with odin? you could try cyanogenmod though the 11 version maybe has hard battery drain. carbon should be fine though! then you also have kitkat 4,4,2

Flashing ROMs thought Odin is inconvenient, I'd prefer to just root the phone for ease of use.
I think I found the source of the problem:
When I was using vRoot, it said that I didn't have 'root permission' and gave me a how-to in order to solve that problem. However it was in Chinese so I couldn't figure it out. Is it possible that I just need to find a way to get root permission for my phone? How do I get permission?

The English version is a little broken, not all of it is in English. I'm talking about the app they have for the phone. I downloaded it and it said it couldn't root my phone (at least that's what I think it said it was all Chinese) and it gave me a list of instructions I couldn't understand. I already tried the English vRoot and it didn't work.
IMHO best way how to root your phone is by flashing custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) via Odin and then by flashing root binaries from recovery.

I've updated my previous post. Download some custom recovery and flash it as pda, then reboot into it by pressing vol. up + home + power and finally flash zip with root from recovery.
and after you have custom recovery it's also super easy to flash .zip files with recovery only (not odin) so then you can flash custom roms .zip's

Try using Unified Android Toolkit and simply following the on screen instructions.
I am having the same issue with my wife's phone. Rooted once with Kingo but she accidentally accepted an OTA update and we lost root. Now Kingo just says "Root failed."
Verizon has locked the bootloader on these phones so that it is, AFAIK, not possible at all to flash a custom recovery. I have plenty of experience with CWM and TWRP from my own two previous sammys (Epic 4G and Galaxy S4, both on Sprint). If someone here (with a VZW model) has experience otherwise, I'd love to hear about it and how you got around the lock.
Downloading Unified Android Toolkit now and we'll see how it goes, but it is not looking good.

Well, that lead me nowhere. It comes up with a list of S3 Mini model numbers that does not include Verizon's. On top of that, AVG said one of the executables was infected with a virus (a warning which I bypassed in order to test).
Any other suggestions?

Trying now, but it doesn't look good. It's been stuck on "Testing adb usability" for ten minutes or so.
So I am now noticing that any time I plug this phone in, during the "Found new hardware" for the ADB interface it is telling me that my new hardware "might not work." This does not happen when I plug in my S4. I'm wondering if VZW has done something to block ADB access...
I've backed the phone up with Kies and now I am thinking about a factory reset before trying again. I just don't want to make things any worse, knowing I can't simply Odin the stock image on this phone.
Any other recommendations?

Update: on retry, I got past this spot, but ultimately the root failed and it told me the model was not supported.
Kingo gets further than anything else I've tried, but eventually fails with the error "NeedRoot." Ironically.
I'm going to try a factory reset. I am wondering if the fact that SuperSu is still in ROM is what's tripping Kingo up. I can force stop it and "turn it off" but, of course, without root I can't actually remove it from the ROM.

That sounds plausible, factory reset might help avoid the issue, but if SuperSu is installed as system app (normally the case), it might in some cases still be there after a factory reset.
I'm having the same issues. I have tried with three different cables, using three different programs. Do you think it's because I don't have three original cable I only have moto ones? I can reset using kries so it's not like the computer doesn't see it

If being rooted is a big thing for you now (there really is no need to be just yet), When I had my G Watch, there was a toolkit over there that did all 3 things for you. The dev claims its for G Watch only, but a reply was posted that someone had success on the Live as well, which I dont see why that would be an issue considering its the same OS on both..

Sent from a Galaxy 5 light years away
it was alittle confusing (well the twrp terminal part) but these are the steps he gave me:
Install TWRP, use that to root your device. Then remove the /System/app/Superuser.apk.
Boot into TWRP
Mount the system
Use the TWRP terminal emulator
rm /system/app/SuperSU.apk
I went into TWRP, mounted the system, and went to reboot the watch, at which point it said that I was not rooted and asked me to install Superuser...I clicked yes, then rebooted and let it settle
Went back to TWRP, made sure system was still mounted, and used the built in file manager (I really had no idea how to use the TWRP terminal since there was no way to input the rm command on the watch itself) to manually remove the Superuser.apk.
I found that you can use kingroot to root the factory test firmware for the SM-S903VL
This is the only root method I know and I belive it is the first for the SM-S903VL
The factory firmware has drawbacks, no text calling or downloads or play store.
If anyone can find a way to make this better and actually be able to use the play store phone and texting let us know.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO THIS
Downgrade and root files found on my drive...

Use odin to flash and Kingroot to root, may take a few tries.

I flashed a custom recovery used from one of the other S5 phones but it kept booting into a page that said take it to a Verizon employee. I assume that's because of the bootloader being locked. I installed Flashify with an apk and used that to flash.

I used Flashify to flash a custom recovery image, TWRP. It worked but the device wouldn't boot into the recovery image or even back into the operating system anymore. It went straight to a page telling me to take my phone to Verizon store so Verizon could fix my phone. I tripped something.
I just opened Odin and reflashed 4.4.2 and kept messing around, that fixed my phone.
Sorry, didn't mean to get your hopes up.

aw poop, seems we need someone to make a safestrap or bootloader unlock method.. I wish we didn't have to fight to get root and recovery control...

I think you finding this method mentioned in this thread on the original post is a real winner. I think it might be the answer for someone to come in and start developing. *fingers crossed*

Hopefully... It took forever to find the firmware files and I only just happened to investigate the factory test files and noticed it was 4.4.2 and decided to try out different one click roots for the heck of it...

If you are done and need to flash back to stock firmware flash these files with odin...

I don't have this phone, but can you send me some screenshots of what apps are installed, and a screenshot of About phone menu, so that I can try to help with play store and phone/text?
edit: never mind

I wasn't entirely sure what you wanted when it concerned Apps so I just went to settings and took screenshots of everything under Settings > Device > Apps
Let me know if that's everything you need so I can put 6.0.1 back on before I head to work so I have a stable phone.

I was able to get the home screen and notifications but there is this black transparent thing with yellow text that is getting in the way of everything, you can see it in the screenshots. Also because this is Factory Mode apparently there is no lock screen? I've rooted again and am trying to see if I can turn it off for you but here is what I got so far
