LG 4X brightness problem? - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hello, I am new here and just came into this forum to ask about a problem that has been bothering me since I updated to JB.
I have a rooted and unlocked bootloader LG 4X with android version 4.1.2 EuroOpen.
And now the glamourous problem:
The phone will decrease brightness everytime it does something, relatively speaking, intensive. First to 87%, then to 70%. I did not notice this in ICS.
Just make a Benchmark, you will see it for yourself. You can also test this by playin angrybirds(Yes, even angrybirds is too much for the ridiculous thermal throttling)
I did try the Optimus G solution in this forum but I COULD NOT find a thermaled.conf to remove or change the said instances inside it.
I have no sullution currently and would like to know how to fix this or remove the annoying brightness decrease.
PS: To all others who will try tell me that a display brightness of 100% is unnecessary or "Who would use a phone on 100%?", your valuable suggestion is of no use in this thread so dont even bother to tell me that. I dont want your idea on what you think is right.

It's also happened im mine v10e and current v20a but no solution yet because it's display is best in class, very brighter, and also hd resolution that's why it's consuming more battery and heating
If our o4x is slightly warm it's reduced the brightness and also slow charging

Hummm... I only use 100% brightness with Navigon and YouTube, never had that problem... Only time I had a heat issue the phone was under direct sunlight, once that it's black and got really hot, I didn't look for that as a problem.

Unknown issue with auto-shutdown on Galaxy note GT N7000!

Hello everyone!
I have recently purchased a galaxy note, and since then have had a constant problem of auto shutdown, at the beginning it happened once or twice so I didn't even mind, but now its just becoming too frequent for the phone to even be usable!
I can't return the note, and have no warranty (nor money to buy another one). Son no viable solution there.
I sold my previous phone so I could buy the Note, without it I am phoneless.
I have looked EVERYWHERE for a solution and haven't come to one single conclusion yet!
I will now post some facts about the phone's situation:
Model GT N7000
Rooted: yes, via cwm
Rom: Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Beta, flashed via cwm (but the issue occurred on stock ICS, gingerbread and costom ROMs too, stock ROMs where flashed via PC ODIN and mobile ODIN)
Kernel: Phillz flashed via cwm
-Does not shut down while connected to charger (and is charging).
-Tried different kernels and ROMs, official and custom ones, and the bug kept happening.
-Shutdowns are completely random (although I found that using ROM Toolbox and setting CPU min to 500 and governor to Performance the phone became more stable and didn't shutdown so frequently. Recently these last 3 days this has become pointless, the phone is unusable unless connected to charger)
-Auto shutdowns happen when phone is in sleep, or awake, no matter what I am doing with it, it just happens.
I am thinking of replacing the battery, since no matter what software changes I do it keeps shutting down maybe a new battery will help.
But then again, I don't know, I'm just desperate...
Thank you for all those who take the time to read this!
Interesting, maybe the logs show something. Check logcat app for that. Elixer2 has a good overviewable one. There might be some hints shown as to what is happening. I cant really help you with interpreting.
Do you do clean installs? mind the brickbug
Battery levels, they show correct values? Also after reboot same value as before? You can set in settings, display I think battery tp percent. Easier monitoring from statusbar.
Try andrometer to check voltage levels as wel. Fully charged should be around 4200 mv.
Do a little dance to brighten up your mood.
Next, or first, check if battery contacts are clean and alligned when putting battery in. It might just be a loose fitting. I doubt that thought.
With autoshutdown, you seen android saying, shutting down now, or does it go black and just crashes so to speak?

Thank you so much for the help!
I have been suggested to purchase another battery, and had actually been thinking about that!
Will andrometer confirm my suspicions that it is a battery issue?
The battery connectors are clean, cleaned them when this problem first appeared.
And the shutdown is as if I suddenly removed the battery, the power is cut right off the device.
I cant dance but I'll play guitar, that always helps me, thank you for the suggestion! xD
hum, not software related imo, really an hardware issue, electrical issue, related to battery as it does not occur while charged.
first of all: easily done: remove any SD card and try. still the Pb?
then borrow another battery, fully charged, and try. Still the PB?
then with your own battery again (as it does not come from the battery), check the electrical contacts (dirty, embossed...), try to check that mechanically the battery is firmly kept in place, add sticky tape/pieces of paper to maintain the battery. Still the PB?
then i am afraid that the best to do is going to... after sale service... it may be only a small welding a bit cracked on the power circuit, sometimes a small vibration or a temperature difference opens the power line and your phone immediately shut down. It is almost impossible to locate and to fix for common people.
good luck mate !
Side note: setting CPU min to 500 and then setting governor to Performance is pointless, because performance = always max CPU frequency.
Anyway, I can think of various ways of checking whether your CPU is misbehaving at some frequencies (like SetCPU stress tests on different freqs set to both min and max) but that's likely not the case, all signs do point to some kind of battery issue.
If I were you, I'd try to find a battery somewhere (friend/relative/whoever else with GNote, or even a shop) and see if the problem persists with another battery. If it disappears = buy a new battery, whether official or copy or bigger size, whatever. If it persists = at least try to flash some more customizable rom/kernel combination, of ICS kind - where you can over/under-clock/volt.
Thank you saturax555 and GwynBleidd for your suggestions!
Unfortunatlly I dont know anyone close to me that has got a Gnote, but I will buy the battery and test it out, its not expensive at all, I've seen a 2600 (Or 2400, can't quite remember) mha battery for salle somewhere, if it fixes the issue I'll even end up with a larger battery!
I'll inform you guys of the results after I get a new battery, so if anyone else has the same problem we can help them too

+1 on all above comments. It does appear battery/ hardware issue. Lets hope a new battery fixes it.
Andrometer will only confirm if charging level is reached. Also you can use it to check if at certain voltage this occures. It gives false positive on good health battery. So thats not a thorough indicator.
Guitar is way cooler btw

I searched for andrometer and all I got was an app to measure distance using GPS :s
So I got battery spy today and these are the results so far (See image).
My voltage is usually around 3900mV and 4300mV, usually at 4192mV, can anyone say if these values are normal??

Appears normal. Battery appears charged. app is called androsensor, mixed them up.
Do you get weird artifacts prior to fallout? Like screen flickering, lines and such?
Am so interested in cracking this nut.
You could check emmc brickbug app. You will have bug as all notes, but it also does a sector check. Like if part of emmc is corrupted. Am not expecting this to be case as clearly its battery related. Just want to be sure.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
No flickering or anything, it's just like if I suddenly removed the battery.
Got new results from emmc check and I downloaded andrometer
Thank you so much for your help!
Cool.
I have a hunch its not battery, cause unstable battery usually(not 100% sure about symptoms) has those flickering issues.
Its not emmc, test passed yes!
you had it on different roms. With clean installs and different modems, kernels, etc. No common denominator romwise. maybe app or hardware.
Then its interesting to keep both cpu temp and battery temp in check. See if there are spikes prior to fallout. cpu temp I am not sure. you can try cooltool, disable gauges and setup cpu utilization, frequency, ram size, battery % and temperature.
watch those values for abnormalities when it occurs.
Also check the logs for errors/warnings (elixer2 has a good one)
But I am at a point of really guessing. I have a feeling its hardware but am hoping now for rogue app or battery still.
maybe someone else has some ideas.

Hey guys! My new battery just arrived and I just plugged it into my note and it is back to normal!
It's an official galaxy note replacement battery, 2600mah (100 more then the original, not much of a difference I know) and it was relatively cheap, 15 euros and I even had it delivered to my house!
I want to thank you guys for all your help and advices!
Thank you all from the heart! You contributed to making me a lot happier today!!
Best wishes for all of you, (dare I call you) my friends!
Thank you!

I had this same issue.. Mine was bought last year.. Just around 2 weeks ago i want to root and put a custom Rom...
I root using cf-root + philz kernel.. Then i flash rocketrom 4.1.2... V3 i think.. Then this issue came.... It 's does have flickering issue before it' s going off.. This all thing doesn't happen while on charge... I'm still not try using others battery..... I also have flash others custom Rom.. Like Ultimate, fusion.... And lastly i unroot it using stock fw at sammobile.. Still it's happen
Try changing the battery, that fixed my note right up!
Is the symptoms are the same as mine its not software related, order a new battery, and if you want you can root and flash the rom that you want so when it arrives your note is ready to go!
Tip: root the note and get battery calibration from the play store, it's free, you will need it to recalibrate your new battery so you get real values displayed and to avoid excessive battery drain.

I'm facing the same problem and its getting frustrating. I'm currently using Asylum ROM 20130303 build and latest Gapps for android 4.2. did a full wipe. tried checking my battery stats and its normal. did a recovery, flashed again but still problem. my gnote just shutdown and cant turn back on unless i plug the charger. any help?
may be you first need to try with an alternate battery first.. or go back to a stock rom and test.. most prominent symptom is using the camera with flash shuts down the phone immediately
i purchased a new battery and now its running fine
The phone is flawed and shuts off on it's own under various conditions, all hardware related. I am not able to post externally due to not having enough posts yet. However, I have had the same issue on 3 Galaxy Note 2's from Verizon. I made a video that shows exactly what is going on and posted it on the following website...
wwwDOTgalaxynote2shutsoffDOTcom
You will have to paste that link in to a new browser and replace the DOTs accordingly to get to it, but once you see the video, you will be enlightened. Be sure to read the details I provided on that site as well. They go in to detail about the problems that I have had and the lack of proper support that Samsung is willing to provide.
Same issue

[Q] Questions about the 4X

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about buying LG Optimus 4X and I have a few questions:
1- How is performance about of the box? Any lag?
2- Both 4X and HTC One X have the same processor, are they equal in performance? How is it compared to the S3? What would I be missing compared to both phones?
3- What about gaming? I've read that people have issues with Tegra 3 in gaming in both 4X and One X.
4- Battery life. What is the maximum screen on time with heavy usage?
5- Any news about JB update?
6- Are there any cons I should know about it before buying?
Thanks in advance, guys
My personal experience is ive had no problems with the gaming and the quality has been awesome, you will hear from a few that they think its laggy but id recommend them to stop the many programs they probably have running in the background using task manager.
the thing i dont like is the battery tends to get warm a lot of the time, ive played games like the grand theth auto series and 9mm and nfs most wanted ect ect which played well

They ran well with no lagging at all?
they run very well without lagging, the only time id say i found any problems like lagging was when i had many programs running in memory, for the cost of the phone if i experienced lagging id certainly send it back and buy another phone, people get carried away with downloaded programs that tweaks this or that and have things like the antivirus runnning in the background which then eats up a lot of recources also i wouldnt use programs that run in the background to change lock screens and themes
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:04 PM ----------
also i notice that the heat comes from just below the camera and not directly from the battery which would suggest its the proccessor heating up and not the battery, i dont know if its the same for everyone but check it when it feels hot,.remove the battery cover and feel for the heat source

Tegra 3 has heating issues due to it's 40nm structure.
The performance is better on the 4x then the one x. Since the tegra 3 was better optimized. I have no lag playing any games. Battery can be something that I didn't really figure out yet. Some days it is good some days it is horrible. When using the phone in wifi battery is rather good when using it on cellular data it is rather not so impressive. But the one x battery is by far worse and not removable. Where u can remove the battery on the 4x.

4X has better performance based on experience with both devices or just assumption?
I had the one x and the galaxy s3 and i sold both u got the 4x. Battery on 4x better on then one x epual to s3. Performance s3 then 4x then one x. Screen one x the best then 4x and s3. Checkerboard when blacks im the s3 is bad and the burn in issues on the s3 screen are known issues. Camera one x then s3 then 4x. Custom Roms s3 and one x great, 4x has non.

Regarding performance, where does the 4X fall behind S3?
I the speeds text the enyox chips are somewhat better performance and battery life wise they give a little bit better results. But the tegra 3 in the 4x is better then the one x version. And I do not regret getting the 4x and it handles really everything as good as the s3 really. The camera is not as good so. It isn't bad but the zoom specially when close is pretty broken but there are camera apps that work good and fix the issue. Camera mx does really good actually. Anyway. The 4x is really a good phone.

Thanks that really helped
Not a problem and u will like the screen. Specially u don't have to worry about burn in and checkerboard looks when u have black backgrounds. And it performs better in sunlight then the amoleod screens do. LG really makes some of the best screens. I only wish I could put a custom rom on the 4x but the stock software is pretty ok. Do not worry about it being as a screw up like it was in the 2x. LG did a better job with that software in the 4x.

How about Camera
Hi,
I am about to buy this phone but there are a few things that are holding me back (or else, in India, sometimes it is coming out to be 33% cheaper than OneX or S3, which is just superb).
1. Camera quality - I saw the Neowin Review and it is the most honest review I've seen of this phone. Camera isn't its forte, but is a critical factor for me. With some 3rd party softwares, can it be any better, especially in darker settings?
2. Video - How good is the video with 3rd party softwares after updating the phone with 10h firmware update.?
3. I reckon that the battery issues are also taken care of with 10f/g or something like that?
4. How good is the music player with or without PowerAmp, especially with a headphone and not the standard speakers?
5. In White or Black?
6. Jelly bean is rumored to be out in Q1,13 with unlocked bootloader as well. Will that mean that CM and others will port their android version to 4x HD as well?
Anything else I should know before I make the purchase. This is my first time for a smart phone, so just trying to play safe.
Thanks in advance.

1. At first I was disapointed from the camera, but after flashing v10h it takes pretty good quality pictures,(big battery spender)
2. Video is not than good but u can change brightess so it takes NICE 1080p videos also can record with flash on, with good frame rate (I really love it)(Also ENORMOUS battery spender.)

So this is basic LIGHT usage but the battery is at 43% (CURRETLY TESTING THE BATTERY LIFE) ) with hard core use like ONLINE multyplayer games battery is spend for 3:30 - 4:30 hours

5. Black (It looks good)

Thank you both. I finally decided to buy it over LG L9. Both are fabulous phones but having the flagship phone and better reviews did it for me. It should be in my hands some time this week (online ordering). Am I happy? :highfive:

AW: [Q] Questions about the 4X
Then welcome to our community, you won't regret this, I think
...sent with my LG Optimus 4X HD...
Hi,
I also about to buy this phone. I coming from MOTO RAZR xt910 and my big worry is question: Are they confirmed to unlock bootloader? Moto also promised to do so and that's why I bought RAZR, now I ended up with this phone on stock ROM.
Good thing I saw, kholk working on CM, I know him back from SE Arc forum, he doin' grat job.
Overall, I like LG design, comparing phones 3 days, I reading, watching, etc... Last 2 left:
LG 4x vs SGS3
I thing I'll get LG 4x because of design, I really don't like SGS3 shape.
i have two friends which have s3 cause it "famous" them all have crack or scract at the edge.. i think s3 just fragile when it got drop but my 4x i think hundreds of got fall of the bed got thrown seriously still none.... forget gorilla glass 2 just think about the build quality
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
Actually the only difference between Gorilla Glass 1 and 2 is that 2 is thinner. They both offer the same protection.

Disappointed

I am very disappointed with this device. Since I bought this phone always had problems.
Starting from overheating when I'm playing something.
Then the side of the device begins to peel.
Then mold spots appear on the screen.
Then this whole bootloader, rom buggy, etc.
If this device was really good, I do not feel the need to change rom and make the machine go through so many updates. The handset comes with manufacturing a critical bug in the camera. Among other problems. Now I finally got my braces bad time. If I can not fix it I have to leave for Samsung.
I'm no novice user. I've had three devices of Lg.
Lg Optimus One Phone = Bug Phone.
Lg Optimus 2x = Bug Phone.
And now the Lg Optimus 4x = Hd Bug Phone.
I am seriously evaluating getting a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Visit the forum of this device in Xda. Hardly find complaints about it.
Lg P880 I bought this because it is cheaper, but now I find that cheap actually ends up costing too high.

Also, try playing games on any phone and it will get hot. This goes for literally any device on the planet.

Yep same here the "quad core+1" tegra 3 "blazing fast" cpu is one real bad cpu to start with, it sucks for real tasks and overheats for that matter. the screen isn't like the other hd ips screens it has a yellow temperature tint unlike the others the blues look desaturated the most out of all the colors and it feels cheaply made.

please define your "overheating"
overheating is when your device powers off, due to 90°C processor temperature...
the tegra 3 default throttle temp is 85°C, LG's is 71°C... i changed the value in my custom kernel to 80°C, so we can get a better performance also with high temps...
and have you ever been thinking what's working in your device? you've got 4 CPU cores and 1 GPU core... now think of a normal PC, what does a normal PC have, what a phone doesn't? right, a fan. or cooling in general. so the higher temps are completely normal...

Somewhere is problem. I have same phone, only problem is with the bubbles under screen but chrome line still like new, no overheating (max temp about 50° when playing games) and the screen for me much better then samoled (yes, i have s3 and change it - hate design and display absolutly unreadable outside).
And stock rom? Buggy? I havent any stopped aplication since i have this phone, lg launcher is really good.
For me, only bad is camera and sound output with stock player (so im using poweramp )

Meh, another complaining thread.. Personally, I don't even care about and i predict i'm not alone with that.
If u don't like the phone, just sell it, what's the problem?
And i don't see any overheating problems, what are You launching, Crysis from PC?
I think this is the best phone for this price.many phones is the same like ours but cost too much.desighn is verry cool,we dont have many roms and kernels because we just unlocked ours bootloaders and i think we have to wait little more for more stuf.

Play your games in the fridge! All quad cores get hot! The Samsung amoled screens are horrible! I fancy an s3 because I am a mobile gamer, but if kholks new kernel can give me the performance I was expecting then no way! Everything else about this phone is so much better than Samsung!

If you have any problems like bubbles under the screen or excessive-myfingersareburning-overheating you should probably use your warranty and get this device checked by authorized personel. Personally, I had none of these problems you mentioned. Phone is rooted, bootloader is unlocked, CyanogenMod is happily running "under the hood". Stock ROM was pretty good for me, but CM is CM. You can't say 'no' to CM. If you don't like this phone, then sell it. Note 2 is indeed a powerful device, I'm sure that you'll be happy with it. But! This phone has yet to show its true power through custom ROMs and kernels. My old 2010 flagship - HTC Desire - got ROM with JB and Touchwiz5 powered by awesome custom kernel, so I really have no doubts that our O4X, which is 10 times stronger than Desire, will get some sick modifications sooner or later (starting with EternityProject kernel and CM 10.1). Cheers! :highfive:

I can't speak much of comparing the 4X to other phones as my last phone was some crappy chinese knock-off of a htc sensation. But my 4X is built very well (id like to see what you guys mention as 'bubbles' under your screen, was it like that since you brought it?) the phone does get ridiculously hot (you might have seen my thread about my screen suffering major distortion for a few hours, due to overheating while on ac charge ), but again well within tegra 3 specs (this this is stock clocked at 1.5ghz which is 200mhz higher than my tf300t tablet which has much more room to dissipate heat)
Im in love with the design of the phone, only issue i have is i feel the back button is on the wrong side but i use LMT launcher anyway(if you don't know what it is i suggest you look it up). The stock firmware was fine(no issues) other than feeling bloated, stock jellybean was slightly smoother and a bit lighter, CM10.1 is absolutely amazing and in my opinion increases the value of the phone drastically.
Just my take on it.....

My last phone was a One X and this is on a par at least with that, except in gaming until I at least hope custom kernels will change that.

[Q] camera and notification led

hi guys, I would like to buy this phone but camera really scares me.. I read some reviews and saw some pictures pretty bad (with a lot of light a lot of white for example).. are images really that bad? other phone I would like to but is the xperia T with better camera, but cm10.1 development is better for the LG I think so I am really undecided.. :crying:
and what about pictures in cm10.1, are much worse than in stock jb? (I see someone ported the stock camera in cm, that's why i am asking..)
also, there is no notification led on this phone right?
thanks in advance bye!

The camera is the same on stock LG or on cm10.1 there are maybe different processes after having taking the picture but there is not a lot of difference.
However IMO, the camera is not that bad, I do not take photos as a professional but for me the photos are great.
You can see some pictures taken with the LG Optimus 4X HD in this subject : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1866677
I find them pretty good but once again I do not take many photos so i can't really judge.
Anyway the Xperia T is not as powerful as the O4X in term of performance and its screen is smaller
And there's no notification LED on the O4X but there's an app which manage to use the light of the hardware keys as notification led. That's not really clear but tell me if you did not understand

thanks a lot for the reply!
yes I saw that link, images seems pretty good, but on some websites I saw pretty bad pictures.. well btw I don't make so many pictures actually, so if quality is average I think I could live with the LG camera
about the screen yes I read everywhere it is better on the LG, as per the power I know LG has quad core so seems better, but I heard for gaming for example it is not so good as there are no so many videogames optimized for the tegra platform.. so xperia T should work even better than the LG with the most of the games.. btw I am not a heavy gamer so the performance should be enough for me
thanks for the hardware keys light mod, didnt' see that and it would be perfect if it works on cm10.1 also!
last important thing is the battery, I read some (pretty old) reviews where they said phone get hot soon and battery drains a lot in that condition, but I think with new firmwares/kernel situation is improved right?!
thanks a gain for your help!

Always happy if I can help
The battery life has been improved a lot with the customs roms like cm10.1 and the different kernels we have now (like Iodak, Werewolf, Optimus Prime or EPRJ). So thanks to the dev the battery like is no more a problem (at least for me).
Honestly, I can play my favourite games smoothly, I play Fifa 12, Virtua tennis and some other casual games and they are absolutely lagfree.
I do not play real heavy games but I read that with some combination of kernel and rom, you can play every games smoothly on this phone

thanks again! you are really convincing me in buying this phone!
last thing (for now ) can you confirm panorama works perfectly in both stock JB and cm10.1?
I read a review where they said panorama was not always working fine because of focus problems..??!! I really like/need panorama feature so I would like to have it perfectly stable
also I see there is no video video stabilization in camera (video recording).. but are videos good enough?

Haha this phone is really good but I do not want to influence you too much
For me, the panorama works perfectly, there are sometimes default on the picture but the most of the time the panorama do his work as it should
We also have a port of the Nexus 4's camera so Photosphere is available on this device.
The videos are good, it's true that the stabilization is not perfect but the videos are good enough for my taste.
Just to remind you that I'm absolutely not a professional so i can't really judge the camera since I never use a real camera.
Anyway for a normal use and with cm10.1 the camera should be good enough even if it's not the best part of the O4X
Hope that helped you

One more word on the camera: My wife has a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, which makes not that excellent pictures (quite a little blurry even under optimal conditions). When she took a look at the pics my O4X made, I had trouble getting it back Sure you cannot compare them with a DSLR -- but for the "Amateur", they are pretty good.
thanks guys for all the replies, I am really close to the purchase I found the phone here in Italy at about 270 Euro and I think is a very good price so I am about to buy it I am pretty sure I will miss the xperia T camera but some other things make me prefer the LG to the sony: for example it has re-lockable bootloader if I well understood, no need to cut my sim, removable battery, more powerful, better screen, better cm10.1 port than the xperia T (afaik the xperia T have reboot problems with cm10.1, so I think LG cm10.1 is better ) etc
just have one final doubt hope you can help
is there somebody of you that always or most of the time stays on 2g and just in case of need switch to 3g and then again go back to 2g?
I need to know if 2g data connection is stable, as I much prefer to always stay with 2g to save battery.. (one of the reasons why I want to change my phone is that with my motorola I must stay always in 3g to have a stable connection, in fact as soon as I switch to 2g I have many disconnections or no connection at all.. so if I change the phone spend money and then have the same problem I could kill myself  )
can you confirm 2g connection is stable on O4X? if yes, with both stock JB and cm10.1?
thanks a lot guys!

bootloader is semi-lockable. it's info is stored in fuse file, which has 16 or so chances of lock & relock. but for each lock & relock, you have different value of the file, so you can easily see how many times it has been locked/relocked.
as for 2g, i'm using 3g half a month and 2g the other half - i have 250mb of internet at 3g speeds in my prepaid plan, and after i use that up, which is usually aroudn 15th - 20th in the month, i switch to 2g. using CM based roms & kernels nowadays, and i dont have any problems with it. :good:

thanks mate you are great! I saw many threads with unlocking procedures but did not see that one sorry!
I was convinced by many threads on this forum to buy this phone, people says, battery life is OK, phone is smooth, camera is OK, then I bought this phone and that was the biggest mistake I did. To clarify:
1. Camera: pictures are not bad but when you want to record a video in a noisy place distortion is all the time, my previous Moto RAZR xt910 recorded video 10x better.
2. Battery life: I tried every combination ROM/Kernel and when I was unplugged my phone at 6:00Am after 12 hours battery was dead. This phone barely lasts 2 hours screen on time. So battery life is worst then every smartphone I had (check signature).
3. Sat Nav. I coudn't use this phone as a SatNav in a car because when you driving and screen is ON car charger can't charge this phone because it's discharging too fast. Result? After few hours the phone is dead unless you turn the screen off and wait for car charger charge the battery.
4. Dust under screen: I was use this phone in usual way, hold in my front jeans pocket, after 2 - 3 monts a big piece of dust poped out in a centre of screen, you can see it on a second picture on my ebay auction:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330939115679?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649
Now I rather buy Xperia T then this piece of crap.
That's my opinion, I try to save you cause I regret nobody did it for me.
(sorry for my English, it's not my mother tongue)
wow that's bad.. you are changing my mind.. i would use a lot the phone as sat nav and if the battery drain is higher than the car charger charge that would be a big problem for me.. someone else can confirm that?
my present phone (defy+) connected to the car charger while using Google maps navigator and also play music at the same time doesn't discharge, but get charged! (very slowly of course but still it get charged..)
lukas77: excuse me Sir but what make you think that things with xperia T will be different?
tx btw for your opinion

if you hit a certain temperature treshold, your cell phone goes into "slow charging" mode, which can lead to battery being discharged even while plugged in. to bypass this, you can enable "unlimited charging" in secret menu that you access by typing a code. this way, you won't lose battery no matter what you do, as long as your phone is being charged. keep in mind that this may make phone a lot hotter than usual.
as for his battery problems, he must've had baseband_xmm bug. the phone lasts around 3 hours onscreen time for me (and truth to be told, i am not happy with that, so i plan on getting another battery. however, i've seen people push 5 hours onscreen time, probably with brightness set veryx low), and uses 0.5% per hour on standby with wifi and data off. you do the math how long it can stay in standby, if managed properly.
out of the box the phone might not perform the way you want it; finding kernel & rom combination that works takes some trial & error.
a big bug myself and some other people have, is that gps somehow loses signal with headphones plugged in, and it seems people with both stock and us with custom roms experience this bug. this might understandibly be a dealbreaker for some, so it's better to let you know beforehand.

yes that gps bug would be a big bug for me actually, thanks for letting me know! (i often use gps navigation while phone is connected to the car stereo through headphones to listen to some music so gps malfunctioning would be really a big problem for me!)
strange i did read a lot around about this phone and have never reed anything about that.. thanks again!
well my other choice would be the xperia T but that suffers the reboot bug in cm10.1 and that also is a big bug for me.. really don't know what to do now..
bye and thanks all and good night maybe sleep will take some advice's..
Try using CM Stable with iodak v6 kernel. In my case it gave better battery life and much better performance than any other combination.

hi guys, sorry for posting again here but i would prefer not to open a new thread.. but if mods want me to do so I will do that!
I have one "final" question about this phone.. will all the p880's be bootloader unlockable without exceptions? or if I buy it I should worry about that at the purchase and choose a particular model etc?
(I am asking this because for example for the Xperia T they say that if I get a no-brand one it can be easily unloacked, while if I get a branded one I can't unlock the bootloader at all..! is the same for the LG?)
thanks in advance bye!

[Q] Xperia T CPU temperature

Can anyone let me know the below temperatures for Xperia T CPU running stock rom is ok or not ok?
idle : upto 36C ish
on slight use : above 40C
on longer usage of basic apps such as whatsapp, viber, facebook: between 40 to 50C
browser: around 55C (browsing xda took it over 60C)
repost
CPU temperature is not so important, it will always be that "hot" while being on use. Battery temperature is the thing that should be important to you.
I think these values are ok, as long as your phone does not shutdown unexpectedely (with the aproppriate "Shutting down" mesaage box) - that usualy means that the temperature of both CPU and the battery is way too high and any other operations may result in their permanent damage. If you don't experience such situations then I think you shouldn't be worried about anything
Anyway I have to tell you that IMHO this phone has, in fact, some "problems" with overheating or at least with pretty high temperature than it should be normally. But I don't care, after two years of really heavy usage - it still works and it never disappointed me, I hope you won't be too
Thermal throttling will start at around 65-70C, at 80 the phone will shutdown.
These functions are hard coded in kernel, so dont worry.

Battery temperature hasn't gone beyond 40C if I remember. Only started to monitor recently. I've been using this just over two years too and never felt any heat when using it for normal usage on 4.0 and 4.1 stock roms.
Only felt it on 4.3 and downgrading after trying 4.3 uk rom 2nd time, even 4.1 now produces noticeable heat which is what's bugging me. Really regret for upgrading to 4.3 for a 2nd time :'(
The initial downgrade was done through SEUS as 4.3 wasn't released for UK then and had the blue triangle icon on some bootups but no other issue or heat.
Which rom do you use now on your device?
40C is really low value for the battery. Trust me, you really shouldn't be worried about the temperature
I was using the newest build of OmniROM until yesterday. I flashed the newest release of CM11 and I'm not disappointed.
ok, thanks. I am trying the Omega v2 rom since yesterday, but it seems to make it much warmer so might head back to 4.1
What helped me on my Xperia V is rooting, downloading No-Frills Cpu Controp and changing governor to ondemand (it was interactive by default).

thanks, just installed the app. It seems to be 'ondemand' by default. :/
Just finished setting up 4.1 stock rom, and a little bit of usage heats it up very quickly. With the heat, battery level goes down very quickly too

Well it happens on my Xperia V too no matter what I do, but since I've been using a silicone case I don't notice it anymore and it doesn't burn my fingers like it used to. Maybe try changing governor to interactive...I'm using it now and the phone seems pretty cold

I've been using a TPU gel case since I bought the phone... and never felt any heat (apart from when trying out 4.3 but yet less than present level of heat). So seems it took 2 years for the phone to start this 'heating up' mode. I am trying to understand if it is a software issue or something to do with hardware.

I've read that almost all Sony phones heat up so it's probably a hardware issue...but since rooting and uninstalling all bloatware and disabling some of the google's services, I noticed my phone doesn't really heat up that much anymore.

Even I have rooted and disabled almost all the bloatware including some google apps (actually removed them from the system/app folder itself). This was how it was prior to 4.3 testing and had no issues. Only heated slightly for a YouTube video or so. Removed the same list of items this time around as well, but for even apps like whatsapp it heats..so something is definitely wrong... it remains cool on idle, hence not a background service that causes it.

Then it might be a hardware issue :/
My phone used to overheat on 4.3, but on 4.1 it's pretty cool.

that's exactly how mine was
wondering if there is some clash in the internal memory area.. (which happened when using flashtool to downgrade... from 4.3 this time). Before used SUS as 4.3 wasn't released for UK and it repaired to 4.1
When i play CoC with data mobile the temperature become very high...this can damage any hardware components?
Because i changed the battery two times for random reboots and i think that some components are broken
