Backlight bleed - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got my one about a week and this morning I noticed some backlight bleed and a dead pixel in the bottom right corner. Anyone else have this issue? Now that I know its there, its gonna bother me haha. Should I get it exchanged or is this a relatively normal phenomenon?

I have a stuck pixel in the top left and I'm getting it replaced & what light bleed?

Haha I know its not that big, but viewing form certain angles it def look much worse than the photo I posted. On top of that, the dead/stuck pixel isnt helping, i think i just got a lemon. So looks like its gonna get exchanged

Mines has a few of those stuck pixels. It is already under RMA cross shipment, waiting for replacement to send it back. I would sent it back 20 times if I have to till I get a perfect one (I doubt this is even possible with at least the current batch of phones). HTC has a horrible quality control. Mines also has rough cutout around the headphone jack and the top left corner bezel sticks out a tiny bit.

Order 5 of them at once, compare them for quality then send back the remaining ones or sell them on ebay , you are going to get it all back eitherway

You think yours is bad, check out the one I received.

I have light passing thought, not like a beam..... but more of a visible gap to the right of the home button.
Its only visible in dark, naturally because the hardware buttons dont come on in the day. But its there.

Id take that one back or see if you can RMA it because that defective for sure.

Update...Exchanged the phone without any hassles, the new does not seem to have have any issues so far, hopefully stays that way

What to look for in new nexus 7

I just got my new nexus, I was examining it for defects.
1) no dead pixels
2) no light bleed (that I can tell)
3) not sure about screen separation. I don't notice any creaking sounds or anything. Is this something immediately noticeable,or after use?
Is there any thing else to look for? This unit was ordered July 4th, and delivered July 18th. 16gb model.
Only major defect was the Transformers movie, but that is personal taste (I kid). The movie looks good on the nexus!
I am going to give it a bit of use before installing xo skin to make sure there are no defects.

Yeah, as much as it pains me to say (I usually like to install my XO Skins right out of the box) you may want to wait a week or so to make sure the screen separation isn't an issue.

Not always, but it tends to get worse over time. I didn't notice it in my first one for a week.
Someone taught me that the best way to check is to hold the device at eye level with the RIGHT portrait side closest to you. Then look across the display and use the silver line of the left bezel as an indicator. If the display isn't straight and flush, the black display will interrupt that silver line.

i have another thread for this. But mine has retention of the black but barely noticeable under low brightness (noticeable on full brightness). This happens when playing a movie for a few minutes (note the borders of the aspect ratio). after playing for a while the black sticks and can be seen as darker shades on most colours other than white. Still searching for answers to whether this is an issue or just a typical IPS problem.

I'll just say, if you want to tell if you have the separation, the easiest way is to look across the screen with the tablet held at almost a 180 degree angle. If you have no separation, you'll see an unbroken line of silver. If you see any black portions, that means the screen is lifted above the plastic border. Obviously, the taller the silver line, the deeper-set the screen is.

Just noticed your post. Yeah, I think that was me.
There have been some issues regarding headphone volume/channels. Some are reporting mono. Nothing confirmed but I haven't tested mine.
Also some reports of the speakers blowing. I suggest testing the speakers and not using full blast for long periods until after some usage to break them in. The speakers are loud and I don't know why they'd need to be maxed out anyway.

Just received 2 of my nexus 7's no screen problems

I just want to let the community know that I ordered 2 nexus 7's last Wed. and got them today. BOth have 0 screen problems (Raising or washed out colors).. Perhaps they fixed the issue. I decided to order from google because the 2 I bought from Walmart had screen raising problems.

Lucky... I've had FIVE N7s so far and they've all some type of defect. Some had dead pixels and screen flicker, and others had a raised screen.
Quick Question though:
Did they come with 4.1.1 pre installed?

I just received my replacement N7 today and it's perfect. The first one I got last week in the mail had a creaky screen; the beginning of screen lift. I called Google and they sent another one out and this one has no issues. Unlocked, rooted, and loving it!

No some are definitely worse than others. I've had one that was washed out with less saturation and now my current one which is fine...
First C6 I had screen had no lift was perfect but had battery defect (kept dying at 20% even after calibration and other troubleshoooting), C7 now has screen lift and gonna try and exchange it out again.
Both did the oversaturation/washed out thing after watching netflix or a video
**EDIT just got back with the replacement another C7 was good out of the box, no lift but after using now I got either a stuck/dead pixel upper right of my screen got the stuck pixel fixer running but I think its toast. 3 for 3 with issues now
*edit 2 exchanged it out today there were no more in stock so just took the credit back

I agree with that. I've seen some pictures of really badly washed out ones. But I think there is still some minor washed out look to all of them.
Well maybe I am lucky than, I got mine on WalMart and there is no screen lift, no dead pixels and color is perfect.

Honestly, there's so much variability in screens that nothing surprises me. I've gone through four N7's so far, screens have been:
1. Very nice colors, relatively neutral whites, color temps just about right (not too hot, not too cold, just like Goldilocks). Returned because of dead pixel and screen lifting. Wish I hadn't, though; I could have lived with the dead pixel and minimal screen lift for a much better screen.
2. Extremely yellow tint, very unpleasant whites, colors also off; can't decide if it's color temp too warm (which I usually associate with a reddish tint) or something else. Couldn't get past the screen on this one, so returned it for this reason alone.
3. Somewhere in between #1 and #2 in yellow tint and colors. Not terrible, not great. Unfortunately, speaker was WAY too low, almost unusable even at max volume. Also the only one with actual mushiness and creaking on the left side. Returned that one too.
4. A little more yellow than #3, a little less than #2. But three dead pixels, and speaker distorted starting at 75% volume.
#1-#3 were from Google Play, and I had two sitting side by side throughout so I could compare them. #4 is from Staples.
So, yes, who knows what some people are experiencing when it comes to the screen. I can definitely imagine some people having less saturated colors and such, because I saw difference on four different units.

Well got mine today and the left side of the screen is separating pretty bad. Just got off the phone with them for a replacement.. ah well..number 2 on the way.
Are you having problems where a hard tap on different parts around the bezel results in the screen glitching? I am not putting much pressure on the bottom left corner (side with screen lift) and the screen starts warping.
im sending back 2 nexus today because of issues were the touch screen stops responding after a few mins of use. is this a common issue? makes playing a game or any use more than 5 mins pointless.

Screen question

I noticed a slight ripple effect on the screen while applying a little pressure on the screen. Its not noticeable all of time though. It doesn't bother me too much but I was wondering if its normal or I should do an exchange?
On mine it happens too, so don't wory
Ok thanks...I appreciate your response.
I'm getting this as well, but I don't have to apply any pressure. Just a normal tap anywhere on the screen causes ripples at the very center of the screen. It is mostly noticeable on a dark screen. I'm curious if this is a defect or just the way all new Moto Gs are. I don't want to go through with an exchange if they all do it. Is there anyone with the new Moto G who doesn't have this issue?
At least in my I don't have it.. Only when I push harder..
Even the iPhones have this phenomenon and it's not a fault.
Phones these days don't come with hard glass on top. The semi-flexible glass along with the digitizer are bonded to the LCD. So when you apply enough force/pressure, you can see ripple effects (especially on plain shades like mid grey and navy blue).
My Moto G has the same problem. I took two pictures.
As nielo said I can see the effect especially on mid grey. But I don't need any force. Simple touching the screen somewhere causes the stain on this position. For me it looks like something is pushing from behind on the panel when I use the phone. I am a bit afraid about breaking the screen someday.

A friend of mine has the same phone and no problems with his screen. If you have a look at a disasembled Moto G 2nd you can see that the battery may push against the screen. Exactly at the place where I have the problemes is a spacer between the screen an the battery. If the battery is bad and becomes bigger you will have this ugly stain due to perssure from behind. I sent it back and hope they will replace my battery because I also have only around 2 hours display on time even with lowes brighness. I will report, when I get it back.

I certainly hope that isnt normal, but you are not alone. I have had it on my moto g 2014. i have been through two replacements and even the 3rd has signs of it. Sure it isnt a huge nuisance but it shouldnt be happening on a phone. I have had multiple android phones in the past and none of them exhibited this kind of behavior with the same amount of pressure on it. Certainly didnt help that my rma got stuck for 2 weeks and when they did send me my second replacement the practically just put in a box that it can easily rattle around in...
I just got my Moto G 2nd back from service with a short letter. They wrote that the refurbishment was successful and that my device now meets the manufacturer requirements.
BUT: In fact nothing changed! I still get the ugly stain whenever I touch the screen. Perhaps they replaced the battery... I don't know.

Pink camera spot issue/ color shading

Here's a thread I made on the Nokia forums: https://community.phones.nokia.com/support/discussions/topics/7000022066
"Here's something I noticed today - taking a picture in certain low light conditions produces a pink/reddish spot in the middle of the picture.
So far I've only been able to reproduce it in my own room, with natural light coming through blue curtains on beige/brown objects.
After doing some research, it appears this issue is rather well documented on many phones from different manufacturers, the Galaxy S2, S5, Xperia phones. Some sources say it might just be an issue with all smartphone sensors, referred to as "color shading", some just hide it better. My old Galaxy S3 appears to have it too, although nowhere near to the same extent. If I may, here's a couple links from androidcentral and xda of people talking about it.
What I'm wondering now is how widespread this is on the Nokia 8 in particular and whether there's any hope of having it better after a replacement. Interestingly enough, the front camera doesn't have that issue, even if it might be the same sensor (is it?), but maybe it's due to the optics too, which are probably quite different.
It also appears possible to compensate for it in the software, so I wonder what are the chances of that in case it's common on the Nokia 8.
I'll try adding a few examples I took in the comments. "

So there are variances between devices then. How bad was your first phone and how much did the new one improve? Any chance you could try taking a photo of a worst example? Say black fabric in a dimly lit room.
The pink spot was clearly visible in mousebad...bow its better image from this one coming soon.

I guess that does look a little better. Maybe.. Difficult to tell how much the scenarios match. Either way, I've turned the phone in for warranty, will see what happens.

Mine was tempered blue. I very highly doubt the color has anything to do with it.
Nothing to say so far, will probably hear back next week. I'm only wondering if they got the idea that it's happening on all the pictures, as I only showed the bad examples and didn't note 'low light' in the problem description. I hope they're able to reproduce the issue themselves.

I managed to solve it by contacting Nokia support, they told me to hold the volume up button and power button to clear cache.
After that the pink shade went completely, I couldn't replicate it at all.
Another thing I was wondering is are the lenses exactly centered on the hole opening of the lenses? Mine isn't exactly centered
Look closely to the picture attached. Could this be the culprit?

Are you sure? I restored factory settings before bringing it in and it didn't change a thing.
And I can't really tell with the picture at an angle. I never noticed anything like it on my phone. Not completely centered across the length of the phone or the width?

Not centered as in the lense itself inside the round circle isn't centered! Check the bottom lense in the picture I attached. The lense is slightly shifted downwards

Sounds almost too good to be true, but I've got no way to test it out right now. Any chance you could take some pictures where it would've been visible before? Say a black mouse pad or whatever.
Yeah, I can see that. May have to do with where the sensor rests since that's the stabilized color one? Try seeing how it is when taking a video.
I got my phone back. Of course, the service center couldn't replicate the issue. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as it's not easy to notice, even if I did try explaining the situations where it's the most visible. Oh well. I never noticed it on my SIII in four years, though it's not as clear, so I guess I'll just live with it.
Also clearing the cache made no difference no matter how many times I tried.

Yellow tint on the bottom of the screen

Seems some of users have this defect and it would be nice to see how many are affected, I know there's another thread but I felt this issue needed a proper poll.
I have it too, it's only noticeable on white or nearly white backgrounds like in the settings app, it's a slight yellow/Amber tint covering around 1/5 of the bottom part of the screen, starting gradually and ending at the bottom.
Take a quick look by opening the settings menu, and having a close look, it might not be noticeable at first.
it might not be noticeable with very high brightness
Please let us know if you have this issue.

I guess the quality control is somewhat sub par, I'm leaning towards not sending my unit in as everything else works fine, and the tinting is mostly not noticeable.
I guess they have some issues gluing the display into the frame and it gets slightly distorted.

Yep! It's minor issue and the phone is excellent otherwise which is why I too am not bothering with claims or anything as such.
I exchanged mine and got a nearly perfect screen,
What I would suggest is try to go to your local phone repair shop and ask them to put it under the Ultraviolet Light for 10 mins. It should help since phones use UV activated adhesive (LOCA/OCA)

Even i changed mine n its 2nd n7p. Still the yellow tint is present on this one but little less than the previous one. So sticking with it.. may be some live display or configurable colour settings would help if Nokia (hmd) put it on android p.

I have to say it looks worse on the picture than in real life.

Yes like this only but mine is little less. On the 1st one it was exactly the same as urs.. but now on 2nd one its half of that yellowish
I had this, exchanged, got a new one with slightly less of the issue but still present. It's slowly going away with time, think it may be similar to some phones in the past where the glue hadn't completely set and required some heat from the panel being on, or possibly UV from the sun, to go clear.
I have it, but it's only really noticable at very low brightness and on completely white backgrounds. Even then it's pretty subtle. Sad, that this "premium" midrange phone has such a problem.
I sent mine back, it was bugging me too much, I even took a measurement with my Spyder3 calibrator, and comparing the top and bottom portions of the screen, I measured a delta E of 7.41 on a perfect white background.
I'm no expert but according to wiki and other resources 2-5 already indicates that is a heavy discoloration and is perceived as another color/tone, so it definitely wasn't just in my eyes.
I will try my luck with another unit, and if it has the same issue I will just leave it be.
Do you still have the problem (as of July)?

Even i changed mine n its 2nd n7p. Still the yellow tint is present on this one but little less than the previous one. So sticking with it.. may be some live display or configurable colour settings would help if Nokia (hmd) put it on android p.
Or even in further near update . Otherwise m going to nokia care next month. Lets see what happens

HI! I was just about to buy the Nokia 7 Plus, But now I am worried about this screen tinting problem that everyone seems to be complaining about. Can you please tell me if you still have the problem? Has anyone found a solution?
Thank you.

As of July 2018, do the products still have this issue?
Thank you.
It is hardware issue some part of phones, software update is not a solution. You have lucky and get phone without it, or you are out of luck and get it with yellow tint. Simple.
