Hello guys,
So i flashed CM 10.1 on my Sony Xperia Z but i have a problem. All of a sudden the phone crashed and when i rebooted it, i had no cell reception anymore. What i've done to make it work again:
- Flash back to stock: no probel with cell reception, evertything works but back in cyanogenmod it fails again
- Format /cache, /data and /system with CWM
- Updated to the latest version of CM
- I called *#*#4636#*#* and tried to turn on the radio in 'phone information' (=> button always says "turn on radio")
- I cannot find the modem.bin file (isn't it supposed to be in the /system/venoder directory?)
Does anyone have another idea?
Thanks!
Update: I tried to create an apn with the settings of my provider, that doesn't help either
getting it up again..

Hi: I'll go directly to the point here:
1. Was running helly bean 4.1.1 for over two weeks- No problems
2. Decided to try a ROM with KFC1 modem - no signal
3. Re-installed Helly bean - low signal, can't register on network.
4. Went a step back to ICS 4.0.4 Tiramislim - Baseband unknown showed on the About phone screen. Tried re-installing, didn't helped.
5. Went back to Gingerbread 2.3.5 with ODIN, re-partition and the other stuff - Have low signal, it took a lot of time to finally register on the network. Calls drop after about 30 seconds.
6. As phone is SIM unlocked, tried another card, no luck, it did the same. Tried mine on another phone, it works fine.
---Don't know what else to try---- Best I managed to achieve is being able to make a call while standing still on a spot. If I'm on the road, signal drops to nothing and back to half in a matter of seconds.
-- Also checked bands, and they're all active -- Provider is CLARO of PR
-- Checked carrier signal in another phone side by side with mine, and I have nothing while the other was nearly full --
What else should I do? Could it be that the phone went bad and had nothing to do with me changing the Rom?
A few months ago, I tried the KFC1 modem and had to reinstall from ODIN as the modem kept fixed and didn't changed by installing other Roms via CWM
Wilfredo
dial *#06# ---> IMEI correct?
Or try:
1. Go to CMW
2. wipe all
3. in CWM go to "mounts&storage:
-> format /system
-> format /sdcard
-> format /data
-> format datadata
-> format /cache
-> format /boot --> it`s a little bit dangerous to format /boot, use it on your own risk
I did it two times (format /boot) after heavy problems with my SGS and it works
Important is, to flash a Rom with Odin after format /boot ...
For me it works ... it`s your own risk
After format /(all) your SGS is like from factory - without anything.
And after reflash a Rom via odin the boot-sector is rewritten (in GB-ROMs the bootloader is inclusive)
be brave and try it
Thanks! Forgot to mention that IMEI is there.
Phone is behaving a little bit better after flashing a GB XWJW5 with Bootloaders and as I couldn't find a rooted kernel, downgraded to rooted XVJU.
I know there are two different things, but in the areas where my data connection was on Edge before, are the same areas where I got no signal now. I'll check again the bands via *#*#2263#*#* and verify that everything is enabled as it was before.
If everything seems to be fine, what the hell, I'll format everything, including /boot.
UPDATE: Formatted /Boot but problem persisted. Flashed JVU GB ROM, Rooted and then went back to Helly Bean. Modem remained JVT???, althought the IMEI was there, I just deleted the folder contents and used a backup. Fixed EFS folder permissions. Rebooted and phone went back to life. So far it's working as it's supposed to. Excellent signal, no drop calls, data working fine. Wondering if re-installing the EFS folder had something to do or just a placebo effect??? But phone got signal immediately after re-installing EFS folder from a backup.
After flashing from ICS to JB LSZ everything was ok.
But after I've done factory reset, my phone doesn't ask for sim pin anymore -> and can't connect to cellular network.
If I disable PIN, phone is able to connect.
Does anybody have any idea, what went wrong?
I've aleady flashed many stock roms trying to fix it and in general, with Gingerbread phone ask for pin and everything works. When I update to ICS (even by OTA) I get the same problem like with JellyBean -> phone doesn't even ask for pin and can't connect to network...
I've tried to reflash JB, reset dalvik cache, /cache, /data, /system.... And problem remains in ICS and JB
Any ideas?
Solved:
/efc/imei/keystr file with "ON" string was missing.
I've created one using ES FIle Explorer and it works.
Big thx to you, i've searched all the day why the hell the sim didn't worked on ics or jb but worked on GB. I did many flash, LC1, LRT, LSZ, always the problem occured. And at the same time, the menu from the power button was directly doing a reboot. I copied the keystr file from my efs backup, it is solved.

Thank you very much for sharing the solution. I will try, hope it works.
Edited:
¡it worked perfectly! Thank you very much.
I have to ask this. I'm on Slimbean 2.5 and works like a sharm. Some day ago my friend who also has i9000 asks me, if I can upgrade his ROM from 2.3.6. My answer was - "yes, for sure". :laugh:
Now, after many hours (days) of work, I give up. I renew 2.3.6 version to my friend and return his phone. Why?
IMEI or EFS problem.
This is one of many procedure I tried:
- flash XXJVU or XWJW9 via Odin/Heimdall.
- flash Semaphore_2.7.4 kernel via O/H.
- turn off your phone. (IMPORTANT!!)
- go recovery via 3 button combo
- factory reset
- mount and storage: mount all the partitions
- flash the latest CM10.1_nightly
- reboot
- go recovery again
- factory reset + format system
- flash SB_build_X
- flash Slim_gapps or Aroma_AIO (I prefer AAIO)
- reboot system now.
But it didn't work. Not even in many similar procedures. His phone simply looses IMEI (and can't recognize SIM card) immediately after Android 4.x installation (even if I use CM9 or other ROMs). In some cases I come to Slimbean, but after some restarts, IMEI is going away and phone is unusable/boot loop.
I try to use Nitrality app to backup EFS folder and then restore it back, but it didn't help.
I also try EFS Pro, but I think they change something and program isn't the same as in many instructions.
It is interesting that if IMEI is lost and then I connect the USB cable, the phone asks me for PIN code and IMEI is back!!!! Strange. I change the battery with another one and the behavior is the same.
And idea?
Now I'm interesting what can I use to safely backup my working i9000? Or maybe help my friend to get 4.2.2 ...
Hello everyone! I hope to find some help here.
First lets start off by saying I tried to fix the WIFI problem that happends when flashing CM11 - "Wifi Turning On..." stuck error.
To which none of the fixes worked for me.
- Factory restore
- Persist folder replacement with download from thread
- Skeevydude blck download
Now I have formated all my folders (probably a horrible idea), woops.
Now I cannot do a factory restore with RSD Lite, I get error: gpt_main* Phone Failure - Yes I am trying to restore back to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 - Tried both, same error.
Does anyone know how I can get my Firmware folder back or add what is needed? This seems to be the cause of the problem.
Thanks

Is there anyway to restore my "Firmware" root folder and get "Wifi" working again. As above I already tried placing driver files into "Persist".
Also I am running Cynogenmod 11.
Greetings XDA community, recently I've been facing a problem regarding my wifi which is stuck on "turning on" hence, it cannot be turned on from the toggle and the settings. This problem first appeared while I was in a custom rom. So I decided to revert back to stock firmware which temporarily solved the problem. After a while, the problem returned and doing some factory resets and clearing of cache didn't help. Other troubleshooting steps I've done so far :
a) Toggle airplane mode
b) Delete a wifi config file(I can't remember the name) using root explorer.
c) Turn on mobile data tethering
d) Flash a different Kernel
e) Downgrade from Nougat to MM
f) Reset network settings
g) Reboot/Poweroff for 5 minutes
Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, how were you able to get the wifi to work? Thanks in advance.

Go back to your stock rom and root it. Then get a root file explorer and go into System then into etc and copy the "Wi-Fi" folder and place it somewhere safe. Then go back to whatever rom your on now and put that Wi-Fi folder in the same spot. Delete the folder before you place the one from stock and give it 0755 permissions. Reboot and you're good.
