Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie NOT Appearing on Google I/O - Nexus 4 General

Just recently, all the tech sites are saying, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will not be released at Google I/O in May, but instead just Android 4.3;
http://www.aegindia.org/2013/04/android-key-lime-pie-not-appearing-on-google-io/2122449.html
According reliable information, the release of Android Key Lime Pie is postponed by another two to four months. The delay will give sometime for the manufacturers to provide Android 4.2.2 update for their devices.
A lot of sites, saying behind the scenes that Samsung will be very upset with Google to see Android 5.0 released, just a month after they just brought out their flagship new phone the Galaxy S4, running Android 4.2. Samsung does not want to be trumped just a few weeks later, making their brand new S4 outdated with 4.2, if 5.0 comes out shortly afterwards.
And rumors saying Google would rather release Android 5.0 on a brand new Nexus phone at the same time. So going to the typical Fall release, we will see a Nexus-Five phone running Android 5.0, competing at the same time, directly against the iPhone 5S.
Now who will be the manufacture of the Nexus-Five ? Most point to LG again, or possibly Sony this time. But "5" will be the magic number; Android 5.0, Nexus 5, and 5" screen.

Curious what 4.3 will add to Jellybean ? Just minor tweaks and bug fixes ?
Will "Babel" be the main new feature ? Which I think is combining all Google Messaging to one main app ? Maybe Project Battery, giving even better battery life on stock Android ?

This is upsetting lol .. Also I will be pissed if a new nexus comes out already

a new nexus phone will be out toward the end of the year, klp will be released with it.

I'm so done with jellybean

Kinda dumb that Google would delay it just because Samsung would throw a fit.

Totally agree. I could not see an all new version Android 5.0 still being released on the current Nexus 4. I would think Google would want to release a brand new fully new version, on a brand new phone at the same time.
I expect Android 4.3 next month, released on the Nexus 4, and the only new "Nexus" device coming out at Google I/O will be the new revised Nexus 7 tablet.
And then in the Fall we will get the Nexus-Five phone, running Android 5.0.

I've only had my nexus 4 for 2 months!! Rawr

The Galaxy Nexus came with ICS(first device to have it). It also got updated to JB 4.1 as soon as it was released (June 2012 ?). So why is everyone making a fuss about the N4 getting 2 major Android releases (4.2 and possibly 5.0). In fact 4.2 was not even a Major update over 4.1.
I really hope Google brings out KLP in I/O!

Agreed. I highly doubt they would postpone their software because Samsung is having a fit .However I would see it would make since to do Nexus 5 with key lime pie. I think key lime pie is going to be a almost entirely different os most likely mirroring their new google play/search style. Just my opinion though.

So the rumor that Google would reveal Key Lime Pie at their developer conference has been dispelled by... more rumors. This is a fun game.

Google "X" Tablet

According to this article, Google is working on an X phone to compete againist Apple and Samsung, that will be released next year. And, also is working on an X tablet with a significant marketing budget. Looks like I'll have to hold off on the nexus 10. I doubt they will keep that name but I wouldn't mind owning an X tablet.

Is it just me or this statement just doesn't make any sense? (The Samsung bit that is) . I'd rather see Samsung as a partner to Google / Android rather than a rival...

From what I read in another article Google and Motorola are making a new X Super Phone you can check it out on the NVISION app on GPLAY it sounds great if they do I say it's about time being Google bought Moto a while back but it also said that it might not even run android something to do with the moto droid line but to me it doesn't make sense for Google not to run Android OS so who knows I guess stay tuned GOD BLESS YOU GUYS

I don't care what they number it. What they need to do this time around is actually test the software before they push it out to users. The bluetooth situation in 4.2.1 is awful and google should be embarrassed of it.

seriously? ICS was laggy as hell.
It depends on a screen size (and free funds to spend of course ). If the screen size is 5" or bigger I will consider N4 of HTC One.

Really liking the design of that phone. The s4 just seems way too big for me and I would rather have a longer phone than a wider phone

My upgrade is in September so I still have some time to go. If Google comes out with a vastly improved nexus without a recycled design from another device. By vastly improved I'm talking about Camera quality, LTE, full HD screen and battery life. Sure I'll go for the nexus 5 but if they don't improve all those than I'm going to contemplate jumping ship.

Hmmmm...Nexus 5. If you'll note, the current nexus lineup are all named according to the display size. For Google to add a 4th nexus device to the lineup is unlikely (to much to manage), so the best guess is a refresh of the nexus 4, possibly by another manufacturer, and probably later in the year. What we can expect for I/O is a refresh on the nexus 7 (with the same name), and possibly a non-nexus device from Motorola that runs stock Android.

I think we could expect a new phone as well. Considering that key lime pie is a major update, there is bound to be new features for phones not just tablets. So they will be probably need another device to show off the new features of the new build. I'm doubting they will use a nexus 4 as a demo device, its already fairly old news.

Remember the rumor saying that there would be a Google Now and Camera update today? Well I was skeptical but it looks like the Google Now did get an update and its pretty spot on with the rumors. New cards and it talks back to you!

Google + auto-updated on my Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 5 yesterday (it's a 27MB download - available via Play Store now) - it described photo enhancements, etc.
SU updated - running on the rooted Nexus 5 stock rom.
Now, KitKat rolling out OTA to Nexus 7 (WiFi model only - 2012 and 2013's) and Nexus 10's - yay, woo hooo !

How long will the 2012 Nexus 7 be supported?

How long do you think before Google drops support for it and we get no more updates?
Even if they do drop support for it that's what places like this are for. I'm still rocking a 5 year old phone. Granted it might not be as fancy as the newer models out there. With custom ROMs produced by the fine people of this site it's still up to date as far as what OS it can run.
i think probably soon. htc one X with tegra 3 has dropped support saying nividia did not provide the driver. I reckon for the next update, google will probably say the same thing. Just like how they stop updating galaxy nexus with the same reason
They want you to buy newer models so updates will stop on any device.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
There will still be custom ROM's that you can flash and it'll be compatible for years to come.
I've no intention of getting another tablet for a while yet I may get a chrome book next but I primarily use my Nexus 7, best thing I ever bought.

Agreed....best thing I ever bought. Totally worth the money and when it comes to support.....I'm still using a 2011 HTC rezound running kit kat thanks to the developers on here. Our nexus 7 (2012) will get updates thanks to developers for quite a while still.

As you know Kitkat is not compatible with Galaxy Nexus, a 2011 device...
I still think that new version of Android will be compatible with Nexus 2012 (I have one so I hope so too), but probably that was the last officialy version released for this device.
It could change if they sell a new Nexus 7 this year. If they do so... I think that they will drop Nexus 2012 support this year...
The official GNex was dropped not because of the device itself (KK runs fine on my gf's GNex), but because the SoC's manufacturer (Texas Instruments) closed its SoC division and so they stopped updating the drivers and Google wants updated drivers in every new releases.

As an owner of a previous Tegra device (g2x) I'm pretty aware of the vendor's level of support: None. Basically, once Google is done with it, nVidia will be done as well. So I wouldn't count on upgrades going on forever like we're used to with Qualcomm devices. Still, I'm getting one cheap as a backup for my N7 2013 LTE (which is in the process of getting a new screen leaving me tablet-less for now... ugh)...
Nexus devices usually get support for 18 months. So it will most likely kit kat is the last update for nexus 7 2012.
