I have OI file manager and I go into the system/sd folder and i dont see anything. But when i install a new app, i do notice that my ex3 partition available space changes. So it seems that the apps are installing on the ex3, but why dont i see anything in the system/sd folder?
Also, how can i copy files from my sd onto my system/sd folder? Do I have to adb it?
Thanks guys.
I know this is one of my first posts but I have been lurking these forums for a loooong time.
You will not see anything in system/sd unless you have root access. You can either use SU File Browser if you want a GUI for browsing, or just open the terminal and enter
$ su
# cd /system/sd
# ls
I try not to go into detail on anything that can be used for warez, so let me just state that you can either use SU File Browser, or the terminal (with root access) to copy to system/sd. Remember to mount /system as read-write.

I have an unlocked captivate and have flashed several roms and it remains unlocked. I always take out the sim card when I flash. But also, I would make a backup of you efs folder because those files ar what determine it's unlocked status. Use Root Explorer to make a copy of the efs folder and save it to disk so you never lose it.
where is the efs folder, he is not rooted and was using the serendipity package installer to root me. can it be copied with a non root explorer?

It's worth rooting to get the efs folder first (search SuperOneClick to root), then get something like Root Explorer form the market (Root explorer is about $4 i think, Astro works similar to Root explorer but is free).
Then, in the main directory of the phone you will find the folder named efs.

If you root it, you can also use ADB from the Android SDK to pull the /efs folder to a safe location using these commands:
adb root
adb pull /efs
(this will put the /efs folder in the same folder as the adb program on your computer)
If that doesn't work, you can do this:
adb reboot recovery
adb root
adb shell
mkdir /mnt/sdcard/efsbak
cp /efs /mnt/sdcard/efsbak
Then just hook your phone up and copy the "efsbak" folder on your Internal SD card to a safe place.
Hi Everyone
Im trying to apply the terminal patch for the webtop. I updated my bionic to 902. im rooted and running eclipse 2.1 and just recenlty purchased a lapdock. i am trying to apply the webtop hack to enable the terminal and i am getting the fiolowing error
[email protected]:/osh# tar jxvf /mnt/sdcard-ext/mbm.tar.bz2
tar jxvf /mnt/sdcard-ext/mbm.tar.bz2
tar: /mnt/sdcard-ext/mbm.tar.bz2: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I have the MBM.tar file on my sdcard not the internal memory. i have also tried naming the file to make sure i didnt need to have .bz2 as the file extension. has anyone been able to apply this on 902? i had another bionic that i was able to push this to but that one was on 901 with a diffrent download of the file before megaupload wnet down.. i have also tried to fxz back to 5.5.893 and i still get this same error.
Below i have posted the full set of commands i ran in ADB to see if maybe i did something wrong.

Someone posted in the dev form that this works on 902. i think the file im using from http:slash slash sandbox.mindcrime.net slash ?p=137 is bad? is anyone able to verify that this file is working?
so they edited the post at the link i posted if anyone need to run this file they need to run tar xvf /mnt/sdcard-ext/mbm.tar
take the j out because it is not a bz2 file. this comes from the site i hope this helps anyone who has this problem.
I have been having the exact same problem. I downloaded the same file from mind crimes and it wasn't a bz2 file. I used 7-zip to convert it then ran again but got this:
tar: ignoring unknown extended header keyword 'SCHILY.dev'
I will download the original file again and rerun with out the j in the command and report back...hopefully this is it.
I have still not been able to get mbm.tar to apply successfully. I reformatted my sd card redownloaded the file from the site above... Does anyone have a different mirror for the webtop patch (mbm.tar)?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
i was not able to get the TAR working i thought i did but i bricked my webtop. i didnt have webtop to sd properly configured. i found a version of the file in one of my backup locations it is the mbm.tar.bz2 file. i can upload it if someone gives me a good location to upload it.
This is a link to the mbm.tar.bz2 file that works for me. Please let me know if this link does not work, it's to my dropbox. http://db.tt/fuEKeYDs
A word of advise so you dont brick the webtop like me. make sure to erase the webtop on your sdcard and remake it if you have tried the mbm.tar file. i bricked mine by running that tar file then running the bz2 file at a later time.
I got a bit overzealous and excited...What process did you use to get webtop back working again so you could use your mbm patch? Do i jut need to go through the webtop2sd process again through the app?
---------- Post added at 02:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:19 AM ----------
Do you also have the webtop restore that was in the original post but was also a megupload download? The mindcrime mirror doesnt have that link.
i used the 902 fxz that is floating around to fix my webtop. it will bring you back to stock. it will wipe everthing but your sdcard.
But if you did not mess up your internal webtop then just redo the webtop to sd process. you should not need to repartition the sd card.
I used the same thing and reflashed with RSD Lite and got back to stock. Just got through the webtop2sd and im about to run the mbm.tar file again you posted.

Second, does anyone have any suggestions on reliable mods?
good question. Any suggestions?
Can't get the webtop to show up
Hey, sorry to interrupt. I did the webtop2sd, busy box, etc. My final step was the "mount -o remount, rw /" command. I cannot get webtop to boot. Here's the funny thing. One time, it did boot, but it was just a mirror of my phone. No mouse or trackpad. Some of the other attempts give me the Moto "M", but most are just blank screens, getting brighter until they hit the screen's normal brightness. I'd love to get this working, rather than flashing back in defeat, but I need help. Thanks!

no file created on GT-9300T
Hi I've been trying a few different backup tools and tried Samsung Tool. Like EFS Professional there is no backup file created even though the connection and process all seems to go OK. Just empty directories. Is this because of an unsupported model (GT-9300T) or have I missed something, not installed something? Phone is rooted and Busybox is installed. Cheers!
I have I9300 rooted and busybox installer, the backup create a empty file.
samsung tool on samsung i9500 international
Hi folks,
I tried to backup the EFS of my Samsung S4 i9500 (international version) using "Samsung Tool" (created by Ricky Divjakovski)
Unfortunately it doesn't work.
Busybox installation was OK.
Samsung Tool installation also was OK.
Anyway when I ran the EFS backup, I can't find the result/backup files anywhere.
The samsung tool folder (under /storage/sdcard/SamsungTool/) is just empty.
Folder /data/media/SamsungTool also doesn't exist.
Kindly need your help. Thanks in advance.
PS: I'm using PA 4.4.5 ROM (KitKat 4.4.4) and rooted

can't find backup
Ive got BusyBox installed and am rooted with SuprerSU and after doing efs backup, either internal or external, i cannot find any folders on internal or external storage with SamsungTool in the name. I looked first in the prescribed location, then searched with file manager. SU was granted during the backup, and no errors reported. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks.
EFS Backup
Hi this is my first post on this site, i hope i am using it correctly!
Samsung S4 mini GT-I9195 rooted cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-serranoltexx
i have installed busybox as directed, then installed your app (su permission given) and rebooted.
i tried making a EFS backup to both local and external SD but the folder created is empty, no files created at all, did i miss a step or something else i am missing?
also i could only find the SamsungTool folder in internal memory, when i plug phone into pc and browse i cannot find the folder.
Thanks in advance
the backup is not visible in data/... infact there is no folder such as Samsung toolbox created in /data
SD issue
Quick question..
I have a samsung galaxy s3 (i9300) running latest lollipop 5.1
When i try to backup my EFS partition in internal storage everything looks ok..
The "samsungtool" folder appears along with the 2 files in it..
When i choose external storage, nothing happens, although the program reports that everything was ok..It even asks for root permissions and all, but no folder appears in my SD..
I thought, nevermind..I'll just keep a backup manually..That's not an option either, as whenever i try to copy the folder it asks for root privileges and eventually it says that (although i'm giving full root access) elevated privileges are needed for this action and nothing happens..Only the folder and the .md5 file is getting copied, but not the .img file..
I have used the default explorer and FX explorer, and also tried copying it via usb with no luck..
Any suggestions???
Since i had no luck copying the img file to my SD or PC, i wanted to ask if we can find it somwhere to download..
Has anyone managed to transfer it to pc?
I also tried via airdroid and still no luck.
Broke EFS
Is there a way to write an EFS on the i9300 without a service box? all guides I found are for the US version with qualcomm processor but exynos protection in the i9300 doesn't allow **** for me.
Short Feedback
First of all, thank you for the application!
I just ran it on my Note 3 (SM-N9005, stock o2 Android 5.0, rooted, BusyBox installed).
The first time I tried creating a backup I tried both options, namely backing up to internal and then external storage. Nothing happened then. So rebooted my device and tried again.
This time I found a folder on my SD-card (/storage/extSdCard/SamsungTool) with two files inside: A 14.00 MB efs.img file and a 73.00 B efd.md5 file.
I also found a "SamsungTool" folder on my internal storage (/storage/sdcard0/SamsungTool), with the efs.img file and teh efd.md5 file inside. However, both have the size 0.00 B.
So bottom line, the tool works for me when I choose to back up to external SD-card. Great.
Just wondering... has anybody else experienced similar behaviour?
Yep, it doesn't work at all LOL There's not even a folder created.
I have a T-Mobile HTC M7 converted to GPE, recently flashed to Lollipop from KK 4.4.4. I use Tasker and OpenRecoveryScript to automate Nandroid backups through TWRP, then use FolderSync to upload said backup to my server over WiFi. My method worked perfectly until I flashed to Lollipop.
Since flashing to Lollipop, whether through Tasker or manually, I get an error in FolderSync saying the Nandroid files can't be read or copied. If I use TWRP's file manager, I can view the Nandroid folders/files, but those same files are not viewable using ES File Explorer in Lollipop. When I navigate to TWRP\BACKUPS\{Serial Number} folder in ES File Explorer, the {Serial Number} folder (where the TWRP backups are) is listed as a 0k(zero) file that can't be read or copied. When I try to create a new folder (in the BACKUPS folder) using ES File Explorer I get an error saying the operation failed.
Just this morning I restored a Nandroid backup using TWRP, and now in ES File Explorer my entire SDcard folder is blank (not true, as all my apps still function), but in TWRP file manager the SDcard folder is fine. At first I thought the problem was with ES File Explorer, but I tried a few different file explorers with the same result (FX File Explorer tells me 'Access was Denied' when trying to view the sdcard folder. ) All file managers I've tried have root access.
I thought Lollipop fixed the sdcard problems from KK, but this is a whole new one for me. Is there an issue with Lollipop not being able to read files that are written through recovery/TWRP? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. Rooted running SuperSu 2.37 and TWRP 2.8.1.0. I also tried applying the restorecon patch through TWRP's terminal. It seems like it did something, but again when I boot back into the system, sdcard folder listed as empty. I just flashed a Nandroid backup I had of 4.4.4 and no sdcard issue. I'm going to update back to 5.01 (slowly, monitoring each step) to see if I can troubleshoot when the issue starts again, if at all (which wouldn't bother me if it didn't, really).
So I updated from 4.4.4 and ran into the same issue. It turns out the ROM I was updating from somehow did not have restorecon in the system/bin folder. I was able to find a 5.01 GPE RUU, flashed that, applied restorecon fix, and issue is resolved. Thanks for the help Ajxx16!
