i just bought the diamond 2 today.. i must say, the out-of-the-box speeed is fantastic! but has anyone encountered the same problem as me : i feel that the back cover is a tad bit 'loose'. you can move it from left to right when u place 2 fingers at the sides of the back cover.
is it me or is it the phone?

My cover is on quite tightly. No movement at all.. May be I am one of the lucky one this time. Try puting a small piece of paper to see if it stops the movement. If it does, then yours is loose alright. I had to do that for my xperia ...
will they do a replacement for a flimsy back cover? the movement is very slight though.
mine is tight. I expect back covers will be the first things that become available from the like of cnn.cn, mobilefunshop.co.uk, etc.
I noticed that the locking mechanism is at the bottom. Maybe a sharp of paper will make it tight ??

Mine is tight as hell, too: I even have great difficulty removing it: the shiny finish makes it quite slippy and a lot of force has to be exerted to disengage the locking mechanism. I even installed a software reset, to much hassle to acces the little red button ;-)
Maybe the build tolerance is a little bit variable and you were unlucky? where was your D2 build? Taiwan, or China?

It would be nice to have it in metal or black leather.
I have no problem now with it but open the phone often for the SD card and soft reset I expect widening!

just got it like 3 days ago! im just worried that the problem might worsen over time?
I put a folded strip of paper between the battery and the backcover and it feels much sturdier now. Nevertheless the back cover is really ****ty, I swear I never seen such soft, thin and ugly piece of plastic before. Fortunately I like everything else on my D2.
My cover is completely firm, and my screen has no light leaks or gaps. I hope these are isolated issues being reported here. If your battery back is really nasty, then just swap it for another one, as it will reduce your enjoyment. Another advantage of this is that HTC monitors returns and will make changes to the manufacturing process based on issues. If there are no returns it will think everything is perfect!
In the UK we all get 14 days for returns.
I think the TD2 is the best non-keyboard phone at the moment, hopefully these are isolated incidents and will disappear over time!
I'm not sure what everyone is talking about and hope it's just a little movement you all are speaking of. Because if it is movemen like mine it is nothing really to complain about. The back to me feels solid and strong. The plastic is not flimsy. At the bottom the back moves a very little if you try to move it side to side. Mine moves less than, 1/4cm, a hair, an ants leg..... uhhh yeah. Pretty much nothing and you have to try to move it. Durring normal usage it is not noticable at all for me and doesn't move. The phone itself still feels solid despite having dust under the screen . I kinda wish it had a little bit more weight to it.
So there is now a piece of dust under screen in the lower right corner a couple of centimeters from the right and bottom edge. Actually there is one tiny and one a bit larger. I've tried knocking it to see if it will move, but it's completely stuck. It's really visible no matter if the screen is on or off, inside or outside in the sun. F-ing annoying!

I got the phone four days ago so I'll be returning it promptly if the reseller won't agree to swap it for a new one. (We have a 14 day return, no questions asked, policy for web orders in Norway). In my experience, dust under the screen never goes away and just gets worse over time. My old 1st gen PSP is filled with dust, but my Nexus One is over a year old and the screen still looks brand new.
Maybe you could snap a picture to give us a better look? I might reconsider buying a G2x if this becomes a common occurrence.

It doesn't seem to be common, as I've seen no other reports of it. There is however a certain percentage of all electronics devices that get issues like these, so it's not unheard of.
I have now found more dust particles on the screen, so the seal seems to be leaking badly. Even though I rooted it etc., we now have nvflash working, so no problem.
Could you provide us with a pic of your display?
Don't delay; report & return it ASAP. I had some dust in my PSP & received a new model right away.

It was dang near impossible to get a good shot, but I think it's showing of the dust nicely. However it's impossible to tell from the photo if it's over or under the screen, but the screen is completely clean.
Good news! I got my phone recognized as DOA, and a new one is on its way.
I have a OCD about the dust issue but it's very difficult not have any spot of dust under screen (and drive me nuts!!) but...most of electronics devices have this problem. My Galaxy S, Milestone, etc too.

I sent my Touchpad back in February when it was in warranty, and got a new case. Then the girlfriend liked the fit on my TP better and insisted that I trade her for hers which hadn't had any issue and hadn't been back for repair.
Well, it now has cracks. There are two cracks leading from the speaker openings onto the back of the case that I was ignoring. Now there's a crack from one of the speakers to the front, which is more threatening since if the other side of that cracks the thin piece will come off...
It's like the poor TP is falling apart. I've had it in the official HP case the whole time and am extremely careful with it, of course, everyone knows that doesn't really help. It seems some of the cases were just destined to crack!
So is there anything to be done? Does anyone know how much HP charges if you PAY them to fix it? Probably too much.
What about a Skinomi case like this: http://www.skinomi.com/hp-touchpad-carbon-fiber-skin-protector.html - will that help keep piece next to the speaker from cracking the rest of the way, and maybe at least.. *sigh*... hide the other cracks?

I know what you mean about the cracking - I think all TP users share our remorse.
I don't know what HP charges, or even if that's an option with them, considering how quickly they dropped any sort of support for us after launch.
What I've done in regards to the cracking is just dab a small amount of super glue on/in the cracked plastic (while paying mind to the speakers!) and hold it there for a hot second. Then, I throw back on the official HP case and pretend the cosmetic issue doesn't exist...... Until I find a new crack..... and then, it's rinse and repeat.
As for the Skinomi protector, I don't have one (although highly contemplating getting one, now) but, you can find it cheaper on Amazon. However, this SKIN got better reviews, plus it's cheaper!

I also had my case replaced due to cracking around the speakers. From the sound of it, it may just always happen. I plan to just put dabs of super glue if it starts again, and not worry about it. I've heard some people saying they think it's from using a case (ie putting too much pressure on it), and others saying it's just a manufacturing defect. Unless it completely falls apart, it shouldn't really cause problems, hopefully. If anything, maybe just put it in some case, even like a TPU wrap.

the cracks propagated to the back side, plus, cracks appear on the microusb connector as well

the tablet is always home, does not get that much use, it's mostly just sitting around

Honestly, though I can't see *how* the official case can be causing the problem.
Many people had cracks when their devices were brand new, and didn't have the case because it still cost like fiddy bux at the time. HP even tried sending out cases to people as a preventative.
Also, I "manage" four Touchpads. So far, mine is the only one that has cracked - twice now. The others also use the official case. However, only two of them get used heavily, mine and the girlfriend's. She insists that I must be rough with my Touchpad, but I am definitely not rough with it - I am extremely careful. Her case shows scars from being dropped, chewed on by dogs(!), etc... but no cracks.
I wonder if there's a "usage scenario" that causes something internal to heat causing the cracks. But I've never noticed my TP getting excessively hot. It's just whether or not you got a good backplate or not.
When I had my first Touchpad repaired under warranty, the new backplate it came with had a fit much better than any of the others we'd bought. It fit perfectly flush with the glass and had no uneven spots around the edge. None of the other Touchpads we have matched that level of fit. Unfortunately, my girlfriend took that Touchpad to gift to someone else, and left me with one of the ones that had a less than perfect fit. I think the level of fit of the original backplate has a lot to do with whether or not it cracks.
I did find a place online that sells replacement backplates, but they're like $50 a pop... Oddly enough, it also isn't listed if you search by category on their website. I could only find it by google search. It lets me add it to the cart, but who knows if it is actually available.
Shortly after I noticed the cracks I bought a Stealtharmor cover for the back while it was on sale.. Nearly a year later and the cracks haven't gotten any worse.
So I bought an mEdge cover from Walmart and I also installed a clearcoat screen protector on the tablet just after receiving my tablet on Dec12. A week ago I started noticing a faint purple "shadowy, airbrushed" line in the middle of my screen when there's a bright white background on. At first I thought it had to do with the screen protector, but no matter how much I'd wipe the screen free of smudges I would still notice the airbrushed line.
I then suspected that it had to be the cover since the line matched up with the middle crease of the cover's flap and wondered if the magnets had anything to do with it. The magnets were located at the edge of the flap so that was ruled out.
I then searched online and came across a forum with a person having this problem on his phone, and he found out that it was due to pressure being applied to the screen from the case, and that he was notified that was a common problem with LCD screens. That pressure to the LCD would cause a permanent distortion and leave a "phantom" outline of where the pressure was being applied.
I'm so bummed now, because according to what I've read there is no fix for this, besides changing the screen or just getting a replacement.
It's not that bad right now, since you have to "look" for it but it's noticeable on a white screen and it bothers me. I love the cover and think it's one of the best for the Nexus 7 but I'm afraid it might make it worse. Does anyone else have this problem? and what kind of cover are you using? Finally, I know I've said it's permanent, but does anyone have a solution for this besides changing the screen or getting a new Nexus 7?

First of all, I'd like to wish a Happy New Year to everyone on this board! May 2016 be a fenomenal year to you guys!
I'm opening this conversation because I wanted to share my thoughts with you regarding this problem that owners of the Edge/Edge+ variant are facing: the lack of good glass screen protectors.
I've been looking for this device for a couple of days now (I still don't own it) to replace my current smartphone, and after doing a little bit of research and also for curiosity (to know if a curved glass would have a glass SP), I encountered this problem across the internet, and I don't know how long it will take to be solved.
What I'd like to share with you guys, is the current question: what if you don't use a Screen Protector? I mean, after looking around I encountered some problems regarding it:
Sensitivity is heavily impacted by these SP
The majority of these Glass Screen Protectors aren't cheap, with many ranging between $30 to $40
Man, they're ugly. I mean, to acomodate part of the adhesive or glue that will keep the SP on the device, the majority of the units have the top and bottom parts colored, which acomodate these adhesives. And here we have some problems: sometimes they don't match the device color or even fit the holes properly for the home button and others.
They don't stay on the device for long period of times. In my view, are easily disposable
And my solution to this is pretty simple: if you end up getting the screen badly scratched, or even cracked, you can just replace it with another front glass. And in my opinion, it is totally worth it, from a user experience and also economical view (I'll show the values below).
A device like the S6 Edge is not cheap, and what I think is that you end up losing a great part of the experience of the device by putting these kind of SP on. I tried the smartphone on a couple of stores yesterday and the touch and feel of the edge of the screen is just too nice to be impacted by a poorly-made SP.
Funny thing is that I never thought about that until today. I actually have a Moto G (2013), and initially I wanted to be so careful with it that I bought a couple of cases. But over the time I noticed that it completely destroys all the design and feeling of it in the hand. After a couple of months, I quitted using these cases and have never been happier.
With the screen I am still very careful, using a glass screen protector on it, but after thinking about it today I don't know if it is worth it. There are plenty of very good glass screen protectors out there, but you can't beat the sensitivity and feeling of the screen without any SP.
A lot of people (including me) tend to be very careful with it's devices, and it is completely normal, but I think sometimes we tend to give a lot of attention and concern to it and we end up not experiencing everything the gadget has to offer.
In the future we are going to have even more technologies that depend exclusively on the screen, such as the 3D Touch, perhaps more curved smartphones and even a fingerprint scanner built inside the screen, which will make sensitivity even more important, and so the need of really good screen protectors. Thinking about the possibility of replacing the screen gives us another choice if we don't want to use these SP's or pay for costly ones.
Well, about the possibility of replacing the Edge's front glass, I did a fast research on Ebay and found an item that the seller claim is original, for just $19.99:

I'm really looking forward to your opinions around this and some sort of feedback from my thoughts would be really nice.
As a user of screen protectors (not necessarily tempered glass, I've always has plastic protectors), I feel that the trade offs from aesthetics (a little misaligned cutout here, etc.) to cost are nowhere near as much as the repair costs for replacing screen parts. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I have at least /some/ protection on the screen. I'm very careful with my devices but there are just times where a protector would come in handy for things that are beyond my control (like getting your phone knocked off your hand by some random passerby, kids running, those kinds of things.) I think I'd also rather have the trade offs than endure the struggle of trying to replace the screen by myself. Plus, if you're planning on reselling the phone in the future, phones with the original parts tend to be valued higher.
Now while replacement screens are readily available, as with the case of some third-party supplies, quality problems such as color casts, etc. are problems for meticulous users. From personal experience, I've had phones break and had fixed elsewhere aside from the manufacturer's service center only to regret it by getting darker screens, lesser color vibrance, etc. compared to the original. Often times, when the glass breaks, it takes the screen and other parts down with it; thus costing you well more than just the 15 USD for the glass replacement, so I guess that's also another way to look at it.
I've had various mobiles for many many years (I'm 64) and have always used a case and a protector for the screen, and never had a damaged phone. I order all three at the same time and don't use the phone until everything has been delivered.

Zagg just confirmed a tempered glass by February; the problem is that it may have to be installed at the kiosk.
I just use cheap TPU screen protectors from ebay, they require soapy water to be mounted so you get them in the exact place, then you squeegee the water out and let the edges to dry up so you can stick them down, they settle fully after a few hours and look great. they can be a nightmare to put on and I would say they have around slightly less clarity than glass but they cover the whole screen and do they're job just fine.
TPU has very good shock absorbing properties so I think they will help resist screen cracks like tempered glass.

no matter how careful you are , the phone will still hit the ground somehow , always happen when you just woke up , glue to the screen and some dude bang onto you , off the phone flys , fyi most shops dont replace the glass alone , its comes as a set (much easier and fuss free ) , also direct impact drops can crack the lcd internally without glass cracking .
