Hi all,
I just put an album into the Music folder on my internal storage and had hoped it would appear in the Walkman app but it's not showing up and can I hell find any sort of wizard or setting for it to scan\rescan the internal memory for music files!?
Has anyone any suggestions? I like the sound of the built in Walkman app and don't want to have to use Google Music or some other third party app to play my music.
Thanks in advance,
M
go into settings -> apps -> and look for s.th. like media server or media storage. then delete the data. restart your phone, finally.
after rebooting, just wait a couple of minutes.
or you can go to the folder where your music files are being stored and open one of the mp3s from the file browser, Walkman app should now do a full scan of your music folder.

I am using Doomsday v5 ROM. Walkman and Album won't detect my files from sdcard/ex_sdcard. I did your steps given, but still doesn't work.

does the gallery ALWAYS scan the whole SD card? i hate having pictures belonging to apps displayed in the gallery like asphalt game displays ALL images/videos and in Music app adds sounds. this is really annoying and wish it didnt scan all the sd card for music. are there specific folders that should be placed on the sd card or something? ie. sd:\Media\Videos OR sd:\Videos
Yeah it shows everything in folders that do not have a ".nomedia" file.
see http://androinica.com/2009/08/28/ho...iles-from-appearing-in-android-media-players/
Its not its fault though, the MediaScanner service is what it pulls data from (ContentProvider)
A settings option to disable this or look in just a couple of foldlers would be great.
Adding a .nomedia in a folder with mp3s with the intention of not getting the album art in gallery will have the side-effect of the mp3s not showing up in the music player
I've no problem getting unwanted sounds in the built in Music app by doing this:
(this was mentioned inside the T-Mobile G1 manual)
Put your alarms/notifications/ringtones in the following folders:
\alarms
\notifications
\ringtones
Those sounds will appear in the appropriate list when you choose to adjust those certain sounds, they also don't show up in the Music app. They do show up in 3rd party music app like DoubleTwist Music Player.
Code:
touch /sdcard/folderwithpics/.nomedia
takes literally 10 seconds to fix.

The method posted at Androinica.com using the text file rename method worked nicely for me.
I did however have to search out where all these files were in order to place the .nomedia files properly.
Hi,
I am having trouble getting the stock walkman player to display album art.
In the past I have embedded all the album art in the .mp3 using mp3 tag editor, but for some reason they are not displaying on my T. I can not remember if they were displayed on .303, but they definatley dont show on .195
if i put a jpg in the folder it shows that, but part of the point of mp3's is the ability to embed the album art and other details in the file..
I am trying to redownload it all again, and re~embed it, lets see how it goes.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Did you use media go to sync? Media Go has a bug where it causes all of the album art not to show.
Even if you fix it (re-transfer all your music through another means) it still isn't going to re-update the media database so you have to wipe the media settings and force a re-scan through a reboot, etc.
The walkman app does work with showing album art through the id3 tag.

No, It worked fine on my neo, i just brought that sd card with all the mp3's on it over to the T.
I have already tried to clear data for walkman app and run rescan media.
I will try to clear data in media storage and try again
Yeah the album art is cached in the media storage, not the walkman data.
I just cleared that data in settings, then it couldnt see any music files at all. I have just resored a backp and will try again.

Yeah because it has to perform a rescan to actually pick up all of your media again and re-create track lists. The data is stored in the media settings so if you wipe it, your current media lists are gone until it rescans.
Also the "rescan media" app doesn't actually work to force a rescan of the media.

It seems to be solved...just need to let the meda scan finish then delete the jpegs i downloaded to be sure.
If it works this thread will be [solved]
I plugged up to my pc and put albums in the music folder and picture albums in a pictures folder. When i open the music app, it doesn't see any music and same with gallery, cant see anything only pics i've taken with phone. If i use my file explorer it see's everything, opens it and plays. I tried third party gallery like quickpic and it works fine. Poweramp works fine as well for music. The stock software isnt showing anything. I factory reset phone as well and same thing. I've been using android for the longest and first time encountered this. (EVO, EVO 3D GS1, GS2, GS3, Skyrocket, Nexus 4)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed the same issue here. I can connect to a network share, copy music into the Music folder (or media/music) but it wont appear in the Music app, or DoubleTwist. The same is true when copied over USB. Not sure how to get it to detect the music. If I navigate to the folder, I can launch individual songs, but the players wont read the tags, or add the song to it's database...
Force close media storage and use
Media scanner on the play store right after fc-ing media storage.

That didn't seem to do anything for me. I did get music to appear once though by using DoubleTwist AirSync yesterday. I sync'd some crappy windows sample music successfully via that method last night. It showed up in DoubleTwist and the HTC Music app. So I manually deleted those albums and attempted to sync an album I recently got. That time it showed up in DoubleTwist but NOT the HTC Music app. I cannot figure out what the hell is going on or what to do about it. I've tried 3 different media scanner's from the play store and none have done anything for me. I've tried copying my music to various folders hoping they'll get caught in a scan but still no success. Is everybody else able to use the Music app with no problems?
I thought I was the only one. I tried to install Swype also and that didn't work either

still no fix for this problem? will anyone care to reply n help me out?just got the htc one n this glitch is RUINING the brand new phone for me what did the OP do?
So I just found a way to get everything back .
First download a root file explorer (one able to gain root)
then navigate to your root it should be just a "/" then go to /data and then /data/media.
Bam that's where everything is! now just move all the folders to the main sdcard directory, /sdcard or delete the files that are in /data/media if you don't need them anymore.
Good Luck and hit "Thanks" if it helped :laugh:
Hello.
First I just wanna say sorry if my english is bad, its not my first langues.
I got Xperia Z for some weeks ago, and its working fine except for one thing.
When I put in Flac-music from my computer to the phone, with the program called Media Go, some albums show as unknown artist and is 0 secs long, and isent able to play at all.
I manage with one album by puttiing it in the phone and then delete it and then put it back for like 10-20 times, but that havent worked with the other albums.
So someone that knows how I fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.
What app are you trying to play them in? I think the Walkman app has issues with FLAC files, you might be better off converting them to MP3 (or similar).

its the normal app, that is called Walkman, yes.
Do you know if they will fix the app soon? Or if I can get some other good app that can manage flac-files? Because I really wanna use Flac-files, thats one of the reasons why I got android instead of iPhone.
I did a little more Googling, and it looks like the Walkman app *should* play FLAC files.
Can you check that the file copied over correctly? Maybe try playing it in another player. Google Play Music (orange headphone icon) plays FLAC files.
Walkman plays Flac just fine

it should be able to play Flac? Then why is it doing the thing its doing? And how do I fix it?
Did you try playing them in Google Play Music?

No I havent done that yet, I havent been home, but I try it now
How do I put in music inside this app?
I managed to put in a song inside the app, but it happend same thing as with the walkman-app...now what?
It automatically scans your sdcard for files it can play. If you saved your files on an external sdcard, move them to the internal /sdcard/Music directory. (You shouldn't need to do this, but do it anyway to be sure.) Reboot your phone afterwards to ensure it rescans for changes. (Again, you shouldn't have to do this, but we want to be sure.)
If nothing shows up, then the files might be corrupt.
You can check their file sizes using File Manager and comparing wit the ones on your PC.
You can also copy them back off your phone to a temporary location and see if they play on your PC.

the files work on my computer, I have already tryed that, I have played them many times.
So you've copied a file back off your phone and it played on your PC, but neither Walkman nor Google Play Music will play the file. Is that right?

thats correct, yes.
If I check in the folders on the computer, I can see that the song that dosent work on my phone, gets to the right artist-folder in the phone, and I can play it with the computer.

See if this file will play with Walkman or Google Play Music: http://archive.org/download/Jesi_Demo/Demo_-_02_-_Corporate_Dirty_Work.flac
If it does then the problem could be with the tags on your files. You can use MusicBrainz on your PC to automatically tag your music. Just try with one or two first.
How do I remove the ID3 tags? Sorry, but I am kinda bad at these stuff.
Check my post above.
ow, sorry, I missed that. Thanks alot for your help!
You're welcome. Did the file I linked to play?
How can I keep short mp3's I have on my phone for use as ringtones from showing up in the Play Music app?
Adding a blank file with the name .nomedia in the ringtones directory solves the problem but then in turn prevents me from being able to choose those files as ringtones.
I'm sure this isn't a new issue but one that I've never encountered since all my previous phones had an SD card slot and I kept these files on the external rather than internal storage.

Bump to see if anyone has any ideas.
What works for me is: after adding them to the ringtones folder, go to setting, apps, scroll across to all and then down to media storage. Force stop and clear data and then reboot. On reboot wait a while for the play music app to rebuild and the should be gone.

That seems to have worked! It's been a few hours and the ringtone files aren't showing in the Play Music app but all my actual music files are. Thanks for the tip!
