Hey developers,
I allways used to have HTC's, but now I have a SGS I9000. With HTC I know my way with flashing and stuff but now I got an issue. I don't know if this will brick my phone and I can't find too much information about with the search function.
So here goes, I got a hungarian I9000 from a friend, though I'm dutch. Now I want to update the phone to android 2.3 but there are no PAN (hungarian) updates available from Samsung, I tried the registry key hack with KIES but then my phone would disconnect as soon as I would start the update. Then I realised I could flash firmware with 2.3 from another compatible phone version, like the Dutch one. So I downloaded KIES and the dutch firmware but then I realised that if the firmware is not compatible with my version of the I9000 I would probably (hard/soft)brick my phone.
Also, when I put in *#272*IMEI# there is no option to choose between countries for me, which I read all over the internet there should be.
So please advice me in flashing a new stock 2.3 ROM, I really want it to be stock android
Thanks in advance
Somewhere in here is a guide for flashing stock jvu 2.3.6 with Odin it only takes 5 minutes once you have downloaded everything

I wanted to check if Android 2.3.* (Gingerbread) was available yet on KIES 2.0.0.11014_49.
However, KIES gives me a message that my phone can't be updated.
Yes, I rooted, hacked and cracked my phone just to get the Android 2.2 (Froyo) on it. (December 2010...)
So my phone is now labeled as having Baseband version: I9000XXJPP
Is Samsung punishing people for not waiting 9 months for an update?
Anyway, not important, how do I make sure that I can receive updates again?
Or should I not wait again.....and just follow one of the tutorials for a 2.3 update?
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to answer!
Cheers'
Read it slowly .
GINGERBREAD Android 2.3 HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED by Samsung .
Beta version is in the wild that's all for now .

I didn't take your advice, so I read it real quick.
Anyway, thank you for replying!
2.2???? Man that's ancient!
They may look the same but 2.2.1 is miles ahead in terms of performance. Lagfix is a must on 2.2 but optional on .1.
So yep, don't wait again - take the 'Odin/samfirmware' path if you want official 2.3 asap when it comes out. CWM is also handy to have for custom roms (optional).
You will never want to use kies again.
Kies Registry patcher can help fake region, but odin/samfirware for ease of use, access to ALL firwares including betas and simpler to save firmwares if you ever need to reflash again quickly.
BTW: you don't need to be rooted to upgrade to stock firmware from another region, just the correct registry.

Thanks for explaining in such detail!
This greatly helps me =)
Hey guys!
I am pretty new to this forum, but have been hanging arround for a while.
And i gotta say that it has helped me with pretty much!
But now I have a problem with my phone, and i cannot find anything in the forums about it..
Any help would be appreciated.
So.. Yesterday my phone was giving me a hard time to boot.. For some reason CWM did not show the backups on my rom and so i couldnt restore it.
I downloaded the official I9000XXJPY 2.2.1 EU and flashed with odin, and my phone could now boot again..
However, today I noticed that there are languages missing in the phone, say for example input languages for samsyng keypad.
I have gone nuts searching the net about this..
Is there any way i can get these languages back without rooting and going backways. Is there any firmware that have the languages?
I would love it if someone has a solution to my problem.
I still want it to be a clean rom and so, so that I can update later on with KIES.
Speaking about KIES. When I connected the phone it says
"This wersion of the device cannot be updated" [1]
Why is that?
Also, not that in the picture it says (KOR) [2]
Why?
I would be greatful for any kind of help!
Thanks in advance!
NOTE: Image is attached because of first post, i must have at lease 8 post to have an url.
It reads KOR because I believe you have a Korean csc flashed. In addition, it is saying your phone can't be upgraded because it is not detecting the stock firmware for your region. Therefore if you want to use kies you need tobuse one of the spoofing methods found on XDA or find the right firmware for your region.
As for language, that comes from framework which makes me even more convinced you have the wrong firmware flashed. Later if you install a custom, deodexed rom flashed you can add languages just by flashing a theme that includes the language you want.

Speaking about KIES. When I connected the phone it says
"This wersion of the device cannot be updated" [1]
Why is that?
Two reasons One the obvious no update ie 2.3 is not on the servers .
the other reason is Kies cannot read the firmware product code and hardware ID and match to an update.
EG original firmware O2 UK product code xxxxx hardware id fffff firmware 2.1
Finds a match and downloads 2.2
Flashed stock rom its not the one supplied with the phone so .
product code ddddd hardware id ffff firmware 2.1
no match product code different firmware not from the network branded phone .
Stock is not original its Samsung firmware before the network supplier customises/brands it .
Thats why you keep a copy of your original firmware safe .

Thank you for your reply..
That is odd because I downloaded the firmware from SamFirmware under the Europe category.
Do you know where i can get the right firmware for JPY, if I live in sweden?
Thanks

When that is the case kies lists both your firmware and the current firmware (which match) and says that you have the latest firmware available.

I would check any android sites in Swedish. Sites will often have the firmware for the carriers in their country.

Thanks guys.. I'll dig a little after swedish sites and post the outcome here..
Ok.. So I found the scandinavian version and flashed it, and it is working flawlessly.
Regarding the phone being debranded, can this affect me in a bad way or is it just something minor?
Thanks guys, for helping me out!

Samsung warranty yes Sellers warranty no its not their firmware .
Technically no warranty but in practice stock firmware as opposed to original does not seem to be a problem for repair .

Hi.
We have two galaxy tabs and was upgrading to ginger bread. One of them was succsesful, but the other one dosen't start anymore.
Donno what's wrong with it?
How can I get it working again?
Thankful for any help. (Excouse my bad english.)
Regards Christian.
You can put it into download mode and flash it with odin. Google download mode galaxy tab. Then download the stock gingerbread firmware from samfirmware.com or xda download site. On youtube there are good tutorials how to flash galaxy tab firmwares. WARNING: you will VOID you WARRANTEE
Sent from my GT-I9100
Okey, thanks for a quick answer. Is there anyway of doing this and not void warrenty? Some recovery thing or something?
Well the download mode is the recovery and kies doesn't provide this as far as i know sry you could send it to samsung
Sent from my GT-I9100
But i am not sure if an official rom will void your warrantee. How did you update it?
Sent from my GT-I9100
flashing official firmware in no way would void any warranty.
You need to find the stock firmware (rom) for your Tab and then flash it via Kies or Heimdall depending on which tab you have, that should get you back up and running unless there's an actual hardware issue.
Thanks alot for your time.
There is no hardware error, this is software.
Can someone please explain in steps how to do this and where to get the firmware and roms or is there any good how-to to do this?
Official firmware is availiable on samfirmware.com registration is free. They also provide flashing tutorials. For any further problems ask me, i'll help

I appreciate you keeping and eye on this post if i run into some heavy problem

Okey, I changed pit file with odin and after that it works again. I'm in keis with the device connected and in there it says this deviceversion can not be updated.
I would like to be able to update it to gingerbread in keis.
I have to devices and they are both galaxy tab 7" gt-p1000 and one of them is updates, why can't i update this one?
I get this.
PDA:JJ7 Phone:JK5 CSC:JK2 (TPH)
So you have one on gingerbread and the other one is on 2.2, right?
Did you buy them both in the same store/ county?
What is modem etc on the gingerbread one?
Sent from my GT-I9100
The one that I was able to update to gingerbread with keis is bought a few weeks before the other one. Not in the same store but in the same country (Sweden, I live here.)
I don't have the other one at home right now. so I don't know modem (by the way, what is modem?)
Thanks in advance.
Hmm modem dont really know should ask google but i'm too lazy. Maybe these two devices are a bit more different than we think... I really have no idea why kies wont let you update it, sorry. I have no galaxy tab (but maybe in some months?) but you could download the 2.3.3 from samfirmware and flash it. The only problem would be that this firmware (marked red) is unofficial. Means that you might void the warrantee.
By the way 2.3.3 is only official on italian galaxy tabs
I personally live in Austria and bought a Galaxy S2 about a week ago. I think that if it would need a repair i could easily flash it to official 2.3.3 (i am 2.3.4 unofficially) and i dont really think about warrantees.
I am not sure if you would not void the warrantee with an unofficial but not rooted os.
But if you want i can help you to get on 2.3.3. It is your choise.
Official 2.2 or
Unofficial 2.3.3

The modem is the baseband listed when you go to settings > about phone
So after following all of the forums with any info on this model of tab i noticed a lot of people asking the same questions, seeing as i have been tinkering and following devs progress I thought Id consolidate as much of the Q+A sprawled across the forums into one noob friendly place. So here goes.
What do we know?
Currently the only official roms are worldwide froyo 2.2.2 and EU gingerbread 2.3.6. The GB rom isnt out over the air everywhere yet so if your kies hasnt got the update and your feeling confident then you can pick up a copy from droidangel.blogspot http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/05/samsung-galaxy-tab-wifi-p1010-original.html
With detailed instructions here http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-to-flash-upgradeupdate-samsung.html Read, reread and READ AGAIN. It isn't difficult to do as long as you follow the instructions carefully.
Noteworthy info on flashing:
7zip should be used to unrar the downloaded roms as there are issues with other archive managers, the password is samfirmware.com
If you have connection problems with Odin its most likely driver issues its best to uninstall all kies software and drivers, reboot, install latest kies and connect your device, wait for drivers to install and then reboot again,
If you decide you don't like the rom you can flash stock firmware over it to downgrade and continue to get kies updates.
Is it worth doing?
I have been using 2.3.6 now for a few days and have no issues with light to moderate use, I have noticed a better looking interface(just small cosmetic differences) much faster browsing, and my quadrant went from 750 to 1400, If you have had a different experience please post. This update unfortunately doesn't fix the video out problem or the issue with skype using the front facing camera. In my opinion it isn't an update to write home about but it is worth doing.
Can I install it on a different region of tab?
There have been a few people who have successfully installed this rom on tabs from different regions so it is possible, If you have managed to do this please post your region and method As for trying to flash cross region, ask here and ill do my best to help.
As far as I know there are issues with installing on the Korean version due to hardware differences, more on that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376440
Can gingerbread for the P1010 be rooted?
Personally I have tried Z4Root, Zergrush and SuperOneClick all of which cant get root yet, Skin1980 is however working on a cf-root kernel here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386643 which will allow clockworkmod recovery, superuser(root) and busybox, Please note that at the current time if you flash skins cf-root you will have to reflash the entire firmware if you wish to rollback, This will do no harm as long as you read the forums and have an understanding of what your doing.
This is all the useful info I have managed to find so far, hopefully it can help anyone attempting to flash this long awaited upgrade,
A BIG THANKS to all the devs working on this device!! It is much appreciated.
WARNING: Failure to read and understand the instruction can lead to your device being irreversibly damaged, The different galaxy tab firmware comes in different versions according to Country, Region and Carrier providers. It is possible to brick your phone if you flash it with the wrong firmware which doesn't match your device.
You are warned, proceed at your own risk! We are not liable to any problems you have your device. IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBT IT ISN'T WORTH THE RISK.
GLHF GIEF THANKS!!
Available through kies
Came through my KIES today 21/12/11, I can comfirm that it is the same firmware as on droidangel.blogspot. My location is Northern Ireland UK.

Is it 2.3.6 or 2.3.3?
samfirmware says 2.3.3
Both the samfirmware and kies are 2.3.6 when installed, it must be a typo on sammobile.

Dear concern, i am using galaxy s i9000, i buy it a 2months used cell, as it was using gingerbread 2.3.3, i doesn't know that if it was an official gingerbread or non official, i flashed it with custom rom's, such as XXJVO, XXJVA... and in those i faced some problems i cannot upgrade the firmware version by kies r itself by the phone, so i rooted with so called official version from this link (theandroidsoul)
and now when i connect my phone with kies it has the same problem "your firmware cannot be upgrade by kies"
Can you plz help me that what should i do to get the official version of the gingerbread. Thank u very much in advance.
Go to sammobile.com and make a login account (its free). From there click on firmware and then click on smartphone and then android and so on. Then find the firmware you want. There are also pdf guides that you can follow to tell you exactly what to do.
Yep, you'll need to manually flash stock before Kies will recognize your phone and it's firmware version properly and agree to upgrade it for you.
With stock on, you can still be rooted and do all fancy things there-in, but the OTA upgrades can and usually do break it.
There are also ROMs that are pre-modded/rooted versions of the official firmware that might interest you, and save you some time.

Dear Talon26,
