Cyanogenmod 5.0.5.3 - Wireless_tether 2.0_pre8 (and older)

I just loaded my AT&T version with cyanogen 5.0.5.3, and the wireless tether app does not work.
No matter the security settings I use, it always shows unsecure network on my laptop (OSX, Ubuntu and Vista).. If I set it to unsecure in the app, it still does not connect.
I have never used it before, but I am assuming the cyanogenmod kernel has the required bits for the app to work properly.
Am I missing something stupid?

you may want to adb push method or adb install -r method instead. reboot after install. or try my rom linked in signature.
if you don't know how to use sdk's adb, do a search here on xda for one of the many basic tutorials or ask for details.

OK, installing with adb has the same effect.
There are posts from the google code pages where this has happened in the past (last year though), so I doubt related..

This is with WEP set.. It must have something to do with wpa_supplicant somewhere.. I'll keep digging...

maybe it might have something to do with atnt not able to do it throught there network. like us tmobile users can use data while on the phone? dont know alot but that could be a possibility

Nah, wpa_supplicant is not negotiating wep for some reason. I just replace the wpa_supplicant.conf file with a very generic open key WEP config and it still does not work..
I need to dig through my broadcom nda's and find this chip, and see if I can use the firmware.. I'll just load it up in AP mode and run hostapd and be done with it....
Ad-Hoc just plain sucks, almost as much as wep...

I had not heard of that site before.

Regarding wep-encryption & CM 5.0.5.x:

So, wep-encryption is broken (no idea why) on the latest cyanogenmod-build. Please use CM 5.0.4.1 - it works flawlessly there.
I will take a closer look the next days ... but it's hard to tell what is causing this - I don't know which changes were made on CM.

This is definitely an issue which needs to be solved and should stay in development!

Thanks - I googled for quite a while, and never came across that info. Tethering is not that critical (unless I am travelling), so I will just wait for a fix sometime.
I would have figured other in this forum would have hit it though?!?!?

I've installed 5.0.5.3 and downgraded the kernel which came with 5.0.4.1 - and it start working again! So, I would say that this issue is related to the latest kernel (2.6.33.1)!

i have wifi tether pre 8 on latest CM mod and its working great, wep works, and no errors in log.

I am having the same problem. I have both a nexus one and motor milestone. Tethering on milestone doesn't have problems but my nexus can't seem to connect as well no Sep security. I can see the my SSID, anyone can help?

There are obviously factors that differ between devices somehow. I too can change kernels and the issue goes away. Something is "missing" somewhere. A git pulled vanilla 2.6.33 kernel works just fine when booting the zimage from fastboot..
I have not looked at the cyanogen .config or wireless module source yet to see any modifications that would effect it...
I'm more interested in the module working in AP mode now that the driver supports it, and have been working on that...

75 downloads - no confirmation - files removed.

Doesn't seem to want to temp root my phone. Tried with and without restart numerous times. The phone is rooted, and adb is installed correctly (or at the very least it's always done what I've wanted it to) but the batch times out when checking for temporary root every time. Oh well it was worth a shot.

I think "usb debugging" is not enabled on your phone.
Go to settings, applications, developement and enable usb debugging.

i'm with Canadian Mobilicity ... i am using Bionix V (official Froyo) and its giving me almost instantaneous GPS fix...
Axura worked as well... but this one is damn fast....

What are the commands from the terminal?

No, USB debugging definitely was on. I always make sure it is. Otherwise straight ADB wouldn't work properly like I mentioned it always has for me
Besides, it tells you in the notifications bar if it's on whenever you plug in, and it's definitely on.
Maybe later I'll open up the batch and try the commands by hand from ADB.

Going through and doing it by hand. Pushing the files now. The line:
"%adb% -d push %gps% /system/etc"
makes total sense, in that it's pushing the gps.conf file to the folder /system/etc
but the lines following it:
"%adb% -d push %f1% /system/csc/WND/system/CSCFiles.txt"
and so on, they seem to be trying to push the txt file to a txt file already on the device. The shell tells me that "/system/csc/WND/system/CSCFiles.txt" isn't a valid file or directory.
There don't seem to be any lines that make directories /system/csc/WND/system/{files}
Should I assume that's still the intended destination and not an error? Go ahead and put some mkdir lines into busy box?
EDIT: DONE. It rebooted, installed packages, etc. Formatted data and cache when it did, so booting was like first boot (took a while, showed the general 'new rom' screens, etc.) Checking GPS now/soon.

On mobili u dont have to do *#06# or *#272 , just run the file and reboot.

[Q] Error when registering vs910.dll

I followed the LG Revo downgrade instructions pricisely but when attempting to register the vs910.dll after moving it to the newly created Models folder within C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\ directory, I get the following error:
"The module vs910.dll was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80020009."
Can someone help?

Had same error on x64 bit system, I wasn't able to fix it though, I had to use a x32 version of windows on another computer. :/

I got this to work on Windows 8 x64, so I don't think there is a problem with the type of Windows you have installed, but some problem somewhere else.

I ran into the same issue, but started XP Mode on my Win7x64 tied in the usb port with the phone and everything went perfectly - rooted and installed Revolt mod in no time

ok so now that I got that dll properly registered, I tried to root using Superoneclick but kept getting permission denied error so I did it manually through ADB and I think it worked, but after downloading SU and running it, it tells me I need to update my SU binary but whenever I try, the program crashes...help again!

I couldn't get the newest version of S1C to work, or the ABD method. It appeared to work in ABD, but would crash Superuser. I ended up using S1C v1.63 and it worked just fine for me.

Try using superoneclick version 1.7 and use the rageagainstthecage exploit if you're having issues with root. Make sure all antivirus is disabled before downloading and installing.
Go to clockwork recovery and do the "fix permissions" procedure. That might help, it did on a Thunderbolt today that had problems updating the su binary. Do rooted programs work?

You can't use the latest version, you need version 1.7. Also, when you connect the phone to the computer, you need to pull down the notification menu and select "Internet Connection." USB Debugging will NOT start in "Mass Storage" or "Charge Only."

I used S1C version 1.7 also - could not get it rooted otherwise. Also had to mess with the "Debugging Mode" to make it work - turn it off, then quickly turn back on when at Step 6. Once I did that, everything worked perfectly.

CAN'T MOVE BACK TO 2.3.4 BECAUSE I CAN'T GET A DANG THING TO WORK. First, the components msi file wouldn't install because of some error code, plus i could never get VS810.dll to register. Even did research online, and found that people running 64 bit os were having trouble, so i used my 32 bit os computer BUT STILL DIDN'T WORK ... BEYOND USING A 32 BIT OS, I FOUND NO SOLUTION ON THE ENTIRE WORLD WIDE WEB TO GET THIS TO WORK!!!!!!!

I had an issue getting the "VS910.dll" to register also. What worked for me was diabling the user account controls in windows. After you do that will have to restart your computer. Then it should register just fin

Solution....
1. If you can not register this DLL, Go to safe mode on Windows 7 and register VS910.DLL.
IT works For me. 100%

[TOOL] Perma-Temp-Root Solution [Mac/Linux/Windows]

Remember, This is still a Temp Root & any Changes made will be Rest back to stock on a Reboot
Its stable & works 100%
I personally have not lost root with this method in over 48 hours.
Zero com.noshufou.android.su crashes.
Before Using!!
HTC Sync Must be Turned OFF
Put the Phone into Charge Mode only ( Not Disk Drive )
USB Debugging Must be Turned on
Restart your phone!
Lastly, if you're getting com.noshufou.android.su force close errors
Uninstall superuser prior to running scripts.​
If you Lose Root, all you have to do is open Terminal Emulator & type fixsu
No More Rebooting & running the exploit again for R/W on system to get Root back in place!​

A. no, it's a temp root method..

A. You might, but open terminal and type fixsu to get root back.
Q. What about apps that need a reboot to use superuser?
A. Use Fast Reboot form the market for app that need a reboot.

Looks interesting, but my method of using a bind mount from /data/local/bin to /system/xbin (apparently I could have used /vendor/bin instead) doesn't loose root after any time unless you reboot.
Bind mounts stay in memory, and aren't like symlinks that get flushed away when the system tries to re-read the filesystem, hence why I suggest using it rather than symlinks.
The bind mount eliminates the need for a 'fixsu' script at all, since there's no links that could potentially dissolve.
With that said, nice work!

I haven't lost root in going on ~60 hours, as as a newbie here, you definitely know far more than I do!
As you'll see in the fixsu, I redundantly copy su from /vendor/bin
to /system/xbin/ from which I hardlink (as you'd know is virtually the same as bind mounting in this case) to /system/bin
I added the fixsu, as a last resort, in case the something would dissolve, but unless someone really fudges something up, the fixsu shouldn't be needed
As my programming teacher once told me: the code doesn't need to be pretty as long as it works.
And through that philosophy I've used a lot of redundancies, that may or may not need to be there,
but they'll definitely keep anyone from having any sort of issues using the scripts!

The rm failed for /system/xbin/su, No such file or directory is not actually an error, that's my fault. In my original script, I try to remove that file in case it exists, but if it doesn't exist, it'll just do nothing. So there's no worries there!

Tends to be what occurs when the files aren't extracted to the correct place.
You can change the opening line in the script to the direct path to the folder 'resources' and you won't have any issues.

I don't own a Windows box, an had to write the Windows bat file
without giving it a test run for errors.
I'm sure I did mess up the syntax, an probably left some command that isn't windows relavent at the end of the script.
No worries, you've got root, and shouldn't loose it.

I tried to pipe all errors out to null, as I took a mash up of your code, my code, and and another guys code, and left a lot of "in case it exists" type of lines in the code, to make sure no one would have any issues.
Apparently I didn't pipe it all to null well enough
The mac/linux version you only see 'starting' and 'finished' haha

I was able to update superuser, but titanium back up doesn't see either SD card.

Superuser crashes when it is the lastest versions.
Do a google search for superuser.apk 3.0
I thought I included it in the package, but perhaps, once again in a rush

[Q] Can't Install CWM Recovery

Hello All,
I have been in and out of every Dev and General forum about installing the CWM on Z8. Unfortunately I have yet to find a solid solution to the below errors when using MTM's ZV8CWMRecovery bat. I would be posting in related thread on the dev site, but I don't have enough posts to post in there. So far I have seen multiple users with this problem:
Recovery for ZV8

I have only seen a couple answers to this that actually address the error messages. One being to manually copy the local.prop into the data folder. I have tried taking the local.prop file and moving it to /data but when I do I get the error message on my phone saying java.io.filenotfoundexception:/data/local.prop (permission denied).
I feel that this has something to do with Superuser mainly because when I have tried to use other methods like using quick boot or Rom Manager to boot into recovery, I get messages saying that Super User has denied access.
1) Is anyone else having similar Super User problems when they get the CWM installation error above?
2) Can anyone think of a correlation bewtween the super User error and the CWM installation errors?
3) Can anyone give any usefull insight into what these mean?

OK, I have decided that my main problem right now is that SuperUser is denying access to every program that could help me (Quick boot, Rom Manager, Terminal emulator). Every time I try and run any of those I get a message saying it was blocked by SU. I have set SU to allow all requests, yet it still Denies access?
Anyone with Ideas on how to stop this without starting from scratch?

Sounds like the phone did not root properly. I had that problem before where i had superuser but no root access to anything. My solution was starting over from scratch, im not sure how to do it w/o starting over. If you have everything on the computer already then starting over should only take 15 mins or so. For me thats how long it took after i had all downloads and installs in place

Thanks for the info. I did end up starting from scratch and the superuser thing was definitely a root problem. However, I still have one problem preventing me from the upgrade which is that every time I try to copy any file to the /data folder i get the java.io.filenotfoundexception:/data/local.prop (permission denied) that I mentioned above... I cannot figure out what permissions I need to change or how

I was getting the same errors. If you choose option two in the .bat it will reboot you to cwm.

I am having this problem also, but only on my new revo (came with Zv8 my old one that came with Zv4 that is stuck in test mode worked flawlessley with MT's AIO root&Recovery App, The new one worked once i flashed TOT back to zv7 then kept root through to Zv8 but then it wouldnt install CWM or anything for that matter, All of MT's .Bats dont work no matter how many times i flash or hard reset i think something is in new software, be it LG verizon or SuperUser i dont know, but are all you people having trouble having it on Newer Phones?
