For example I tried playing the original angry birds and it is extremely choppy. It seems like a bunch of the old 2d iOS ported games like angry birds, cut the rope ect don't run that well on this phone. Does anyone else experience the same choppiness in this game? Is it something to do with optimization or is it a hardware issue with the One? Newer 3d games seem to run fine. I hope its not just my phone.
Strange. I just installed it and played the first level and found it to be extremely fast and responsive. Do you have power save mode on?

I don't have power save mode on, I've been trying to diagnose the problem for the last little while and I can't figure out what it is. The game runs fine for the most part it is just a tiny bit jerky, especially when scrolling the background.
Same here, playing games I played on my S3 on my One are quite laggy. Maybe game developers have to add support for our phone?
I found this old post about the HTC One X, perhaps the same issue applies to the One and can be corrected with the same solution?

Another solution, once again requires a rooted device is to install any CPU app like kernel tuner, SetCPU, Trickster Mod, etc. Change the Governor from on-demand to msm-dcvs. In kernel tuner you can a little further enhancement by ticking the box next to link all cores. This will also tax your battery more but a lot less than that in article you linked to.
Both the titles you mentioned run without a hitch, very smooth. Anyone else want to chime in?

Didn't want to start a new thread on same topic.
I've experienced the same issues on my One. In Nimble Quest for example, you can look at the background as it scrolls and every few seconds there's a hitch/slowdown, then the game speeds up again. It can be subtle and perhaps not everyone notices it. Another game that exhibits this, is Canabalt. It's actually more severe in Canabalt.
I have Power Save disabled and this issue still persists. I am not sure what the culprit would be, and I hope we don't have to rely on the developer to resolve the issue. I feel it's something on the phone's side, (perhaps it's throttling down)? I tested the same 2 games on an S4 and the issue was not present.
I am on 1.29.1540.3.

Hi guys, I got NfsMW working on our HD2's. It's not laggy but the problem is that after about 2 minutes, it just exits. What's the problem? Ram? I think that android turns on it's ****ty apps(for eg. Play store) to "update" them, and then they take too much of ram..
I'd like to see your answers, thanks. Maybe chainfire can solve the problem? Or we should KILL everything with ram manager?
Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm running Aokp jellybean build 3 from xylo on nand.

The new NFS: MW? I highly doubt that works without lag, I've seen the graphics and they're quite heavy for a mobile game. No single core, 404Mb RAM (in Android) phone could run it smoothly. Even Temple Run has a poor framerate. If you mean the old NFS: MW then that runs perfectly for me without lag, and it doesn't close after a while either.

Well, it's not without lag, but it's really playable, I firstly thought that it won't even run. I'll make a short video tommorow if you want. I've found out that I can play it with the ram manager setted to hard gaming.
Yes, it's the new one. HD2 is never going to die.

NFS MW is working on HD2 without any problem! The game is really good. You can watch a short movie from the game, just search on youtube: NFS MW HTC HD2
I play this game on paranoidandroid without overclocking. Only thing you must do is to change build.prop file.
Sorry for my eanglish
I certainly wouldn't say without any problems. The game runs at half the speed it should! Even then, I'm impressed at how smooth it is since it's running on such old hardware.

Do you have a problem like me: You're racing and suddenly the game crashes because of GPU, RAM?
If you don't, how did you fixed it? I tried with that ram manager pro setted to hard gaming but I don't think it's due RAM.
When installed chainfire3d, it crashed my phone so I had to reflash my rom(stupid man forgot to backup current).

If you have the softbuttons activated, it won't download because of that.
I'll upload apk to dropbox and send you a pm.
And yes, problem was rom, not the game. We have strong enough gpu and enough ram to run it. I'm playing on paranoid 1.5b without problems.

Devs will probably make some patches with light effects that will work on every device that can run the game(eg. like Dead Trigger..).
It plays on the Hd2... But then there is a lot of difference running it on my note 2 and Asus tf300

I managed to run it smoothly without those effects with normally downloaded data for Desire HD. However, after 2 weeks, the effects for POWERVR devices (better textures, lightning effects etc) activated, so it lagged horribly.
Since getting my HTC One I can't help but notice it displays lag spikes in places where the hardware alone simply shouldn't lag. A few examples can be found in Angry Birds (play it alongside a recent iPhone or the Galaxy S3 and there's very visible differences) and Youtube (very surprising considering its multimedia prowess! Tends to get small spikes of lag in the first few minutes of a video, fast music videos tend to easily point this one out).
These spikes were also visible on my HTC One X as well but can't be found on The GSIII so I don't want to go and blame android here but is there something that can be done to remove them? I know it's all very minor but when you've seen it you can't un-see it! I had an idea that it may be HTC's processor management not ramping up the power quickly enough for apps (but i'm no expert!)?
Any help in finding ways to diminish these would be greatly appreciated!
Do you have power saver on? That may be why. I haven't noticed these lag spikes at all.

Nope Power Saver is off.
These bits of lag are small, but they're definitely there, if anyone has the Impossible Game that's an incredibly good example of what i'm talking about.
One of my biggest issues with the OneX was the overly aggressive memory management that made multitasking impossible and plain broke some stuff. Even on my GS3 AT&T with 2GB of RAM the memory management is quite aggressive probably to help battery life or something. On my Nexus 4 however I can choose to leave apps running non stop for days at a time and they remain that way. Especially handy for Maps or Ingress BTW.
Anybody with one have a sense on how it is on the One? I'm hoping the extra 1GB of RAM helps but then Sense was always overly bloated and the whole blink feed thing can't have a small footprint.
Looking for thoughts since the phone is useless to me if it will continuously kill apps in the background.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Well I dont know if the apps remain days after launching them but I got to tell You that its faaaar better than One X. The other day I opened 10tabs in the browser at the same time and no reloading. When it comes to new sense its like a night and day. Normally on my OneX ram usage was about 800MB without any app runnig. With The One I have 550MB from 1.5GB that is usable so that indicates that Sense 5 is a lot lighter and believe me... Its really fast. They got rid of most widgets, animations are more simple etc. Blinkfeed is kinda nice but it needs extended functionality.
Multitasking isn't an issue.
I've come from phones with 512Mb RAM - the dialer in particular used to get shut down all the time, leading to lag when someone rang, or when I wanted to boot the dialer up again to ring someone. I rooted those phones just so I could lock the dialer in memory.
The HTC One appears to do the same (well, the dialer eventually disappears from the recent apps list anyway), but even so, it is no problem. Using the dialer as an example, whether I have used it 5 minutes ago or six hours ago, when I press the dialer button it comes up straight away, i.e no laggy delay like previous phones. And the dialer comes up and the phone rings pretty much straight away when someone rings me (well, me ringing myself from my other phones to test the response time).
So more than enough RAM (and processing power) on the HTC One to not make it an issue any more, everything flies and all apps come straight up when you want them to. More than happy.
I know what u mean coming from the HTC one x and one x+ myself . HTC have solved the problem finally.. this baby can multitask properly.. and very quickly I might add

Can u pls tell me how much memory is free when u boot it up and let it settle...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Regarding free RAM, out of the box there was about 1GB RAM free (1.5GB showing as available in the 'running apps' screen, with about 550MB used, or as it is displayed in Sense 5, '550MB/1.5GB').
I've now disabled all the stuff I don't need, and loaded Novalauncher, with six home screens full of widgets and app icons, and also Widgetlocker, i.e. quite a lot of stuff loaded - now it shows '825MB/1.5GB' (the range is about 775MB to 875MB from what I observe), which means roughly 600-700MB free RAM still, allegedly. That's without any specialist tweaking from me.
No slowdown or lag at all since I have loaded everything up.
Coming from the Nexus 4, multi tasking is a bit disappointing for me; it’s not a deal breaker but with the N4 I’d switch to an app I’d not touched in a week and it would be up, responsive and exactly where I’d left off a week later no matter what I’d done in the mean time. On the One however, apps sometimes have to reopen and - for me a more annoying behaviour- sometimes relatively recently used apps do a sort of ‘refresh’ when they first load up. The app seems to load up, but then it fades out and then back again, which means that although they usually pick up where they left off, they’re unresponsive for a second. It’s not all the time and it may sound like nit-picking but it feels like a fairly significant delay when everything else is so fast.
It’s also frustrating using certain apps where the refresh can lead to you losing progress; I was using a run tracker for example, stopped my run, multi tasked to music and stopped that, jumped in the shower and then switched back to the run log to sort out the details, but instead of loading my stats where I’d left it, or even reopening the app entirely, it showed an image of my runs stats just as i'd left it but then refreshed and loaded up a new run. Because i'd not pressed 'continue' in the app the run was lost. It's poor that the app didn't autosave before that point but it’s not unique behaviour either as I’ve had the same happen with office documents, games and other apps - seems very odd behaviour to me and not something i've seen in other phones where an app is either ready where it was left, or needs reopening.
If I’d gone straight from the SGS2 to this it wouldn’t be an issue but with the N4 showing me what can be done, I do feel that the One could use some improvement.
It also depends on the app, some apps for me dont save their state at all.
As soon as I switch app it reloads when I go back to it, however on my Senny with edited memory management the same app could be opened again at same state without reloads.
For me, every single app on the 9 recent apps grid will load instantly with no refresh.
Even the stock browser? That's the biggest culpit for me in terms of seemingly needless refreshing. Hopefully what im experiencing will be fixed either by HTC or a third party as if this phone had the N4's multitasking prowess - and there's no reason it can't imo - it would feel much, much better to me.
Yeah the browser is fine; are you on stock rom? Not sure if ARHD has any tweaks in regards to multitasking but it's good for me.

Yep completely stock - usually like to wait a few weeks before going down the custom rom route so i can get a good guage of the otb experience. If it fixes the muti-tasking i'll switch over to ARHD once i've fixed my N4 though
So some people are actually having the refresh problems again?

I don’t know what the last generation HTC One’s were like but this isn’t terrible, it’s better at multi tasking than my S2 in general - just not as good as the N4 and the strange refreshing/redrawing behaviour seems totally pointless and counterintuitive.
At least it does that because of the battery !

It isn't pointless it helps save battery because it essentially freezes apps in the background so they don't use CPU. When you go back to them they then resume and have to refresh. So in the end it will help with battery - on a stock One X I used to easily get 5h screen on time. Never got close on a SGS3 or any other phone.

Not going to lie but my Note 2 has never refreshed an app yet. If the One is plagued with refreshing and aggressive memory management its a deal breaker. Im just confused because some people say yes and others no to the problem. Which is it?

As always it depends entirely on what apps you use and what state they report. The memory management on the One won't be for RAM reasons but CPU and battery reasons. The worse news is even after rooting and changing system settings some of the aggressive management on the One X was at the kernel level.
Given the extra memory on the One. I'm guessing it won't be as bad but you'll have to use it yourself to know for sure.
I'm currently on a Nexus 4 and this is the best Android multitasking I've ever seen on a phone ever.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I think it also depends what phone you came from and how you use it. I constantly switch out between a dozen or so apps and am used to the nexus 4 which is pretty much flawless for multi tasking, but having used a one x+ side by side (literally 5 minutes ago) the one is massively improved, and it's also a lot better than my s2.
It's a damn fast phone and most of the time there's no issue, but it could still be improved slightly - I'll check out a custom rom this week and see if that does it.
I'm still very happy with my purchase - particularly since the battery life has improved significantly and now trounces what I got with the n4 in the same situation.

Hi all so let me start by saying ive always enjoyed this site and its users and help. unfortunately what brings me here is that Im having issues with some fluidity of this device based on what ive seen from other videos regarding games and their benchmarks. Ok so heres a few examples of titles im speaking of. Dead Trigger 1&2, Modern Combat 4, all of the Grand Theft Auto games. Even DraStic DS Emulator which ive seen running perfectly on a user posted Note 3. My wifes iPhone 5c runs these games literally perfect, my Note 3 struggles here and there. So that led me to running almost every benchmark i could think of and to my concern again all of my scores are coming up a hair shorter than other users. And gameplay isnt just quite as smooth as other user videos. I almost have no other issues with the device and im constantly taking care of its memory and cache. Even factory rest a few times. Its nothing more than normal Android hiccup that ive been used to. But with Project Butter and these other videos I just need to know if theres an issue with my device or did I get screwed buying the Note 3. Has anyone else noticed this? Either via gaming or web scrolling or the notorious Youtube Streaming smoothness issue. Please any help is greatly appreciated. Ive even taken the liberty of posting every screen cap of benchmarks that i took. You dont have to look at all the photos but im thorough so i gave you all of them.

See thats what I dont understand its a factory reset. Heres my other concern with your screenie, yours is even higher than alot of scores Ive seen. So I cant quite get a figure on what the norm is for this device. Especially since there are so many versions with two different chipsets too boot. What I dont get is if these scores are the norm then why. Since as much as I hate iOS i have to give it credit where its due: ITS ABSOLUTELY SMOOTHER THAN A DEVICE WITH MORE PHYSICAL RAW POWER? My gripes arent even major the hiccups are only every now and then but for the most part I have a hard time seeing any other YouTube Note 3's that display the behavior. And its not even that its bad or doesnt work, i just got concerned with the hiccups.

I thought about trying the same idea of flashing it and Ive done many other devices. Buts thats not why I bought the device, I dont wanna brick it or just flat out tamper with it, and it seems hit or miss from person to person or at least what Ive seen. Id be just as satisfied if everyone can say their device runs all these games with out one single hiccup. Ever. Lol. I know Android games arent as optimized as ios but Im just trying to understand why or how to fix it or if some poeple have also experinced it. And like i said youtube stutters on its own on my laptop and Note 3 so its been hard to use that as a reference.Ive been able to use it to compare my ps3 games framerates but the quality of vidoes out there are crap since most are being recorded unprofeesionally. The other half is just as a i said hard to tell from youtube.

yeh auto save was enabled on mine.cool I took it off.Didn't even know that menu existed.lol
Ok so this was after turning every option I could think of. My question still remains that I don't understand why others are still getting higher results. Also these numbers have had no effect on gaming it still hiccups in most hardware intensive applications just slightly more than an iPhone 5c I just don't get it.

Well I've been keeping it eye on it more and i've gotten as high as 33,000 or whatever it was in that screenie but it's not consistent it'll drop back down in the 27'000 area. Plus like I said my main concern is I can't get this phone to play games as well as my wife's iPhone does. I mean this is a quad core right. Last I checked no iPhone should beat this on pen and paper right? And it's not unplayable and most wouldn't care but I just wanted to know if this hiccup here and there is acceptable as normal?

I contacted AT&T and they're sending me a replacement. Well see what happens then. But you guys never see a hiccup in your gaming. Never the slightest framerate dip? And i should clarify that when im comparing it to the iPhone the framerates there stay consistent. My device plays great but here and there it hiccups. That's actually what I'm really referring to. And if so how is that possible comparing it to s device of lesser power? I mean I don't make this stuff up I keep noticing that almost every game I play runs just that much better on my wife's iPhone 5c than a Note 3...
Does anybody else experience some pretty bad lag in some games on their N6?
I've only tried a couple games, but one of my favorites, "Whale Trail Frenzy" lags something fierce when you get into frenzy mode. I did a google search and saw some people a couple months back having trouble with madden too, and some suggested it might be an issue of the app not being compatible with Lollipop but I tried it on my M8 with lollipop and runs just fine.
Does anyone else still have this issue and if so have you found a fix?

I just wiped the cache and rebooted (as you have to to wipe) and am going to try again now.
[edit] Still have noticeable lag. Reboot, wipe cache didn't help. Can somebody else download Whale Trail Frenzy and play a couple games and see if you experience this slowdown too? All of my other games seem to be working okay. Maybe its just the game clashing with this specific phone.
If you are a big gamer I word seriously recommend getting a phone with a lower resolution ... The high resolution definitely impacts game performance on the G3, note 4, and this phone.

I can feel some framedrops on modern combat 5 but very less on modern combat 4. I'm a heavy gamer, yeah it annoys me a lot. Some games like NOVA 3 makes the phone to shut down forcefully cause of the RAM leaking issue. I'm pretty sure that the bad gaming performance is due to the RAM leaking issue
