I thought that those Htc Dev phones were aready hardware unlocked?
Well, I sorta installed the RC27 in order to install cyanogenmod....But this not the point!I have lots of important content that I can't afford to lose!So I'm looking for a way to restore my phone back to normal!

Doesnt google sync your contacts/email/etc, can you get into bootloader or fastboot
Yes ADP's are factory rooted, so downgrading to RC27 was a little pointless.
Anywho your phone's dead. Your "important content" is gone, that's the risk you take when you flash your device.
Move along children, nothing to see here.
Well then, thanks for you fast replies, but I have one last question. Is there any way to restore it by modifying the hardware?Replacing something etc.?

Check craigslist for any HTC Dream, and swap the motherboard and other necessary guts with yours. You can usually find G1's for around $25 with a cracked screen. Which you don't need the screen, so that doesn't matter.
Yeah motherboard replacement doesn't look too tricky. Search for the thread on how to recovery from a brick in the development section, it has a step by step guide with pictures.

That's not really going to help him recover the data on his flash though.
if you have nandroid backups, your data will still be recoverable. if not, your out of luck
Did you got your phone working ??

Lets do this! Gloves are off and I am going to 2.2.... help! Rogers

So, the only thing holding me back was voiding the warranty and the fact I have a rogers phone (build EPE54B).... so I think I have to flash the build to the one that matches the update?
Sooooo if anyone wants to point me in the safest, easiest direction... I would appreciate it... and dos and don't would be appreciated as well. I am new to the phone an android, so feel free to dumb it down.
Does the build actually mean anything? What happens once I change it... and official updates come out? I am going to cut the grass... and then root, so help me out (preferably someone that is on rogers and has done this)
thx in advance! Froyo or Brick, here I come!
had a long day with chores and family day.... but I am back at it, first tutorial down and it seems solid...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
onward!
Let me know how you make out. I'm on Rogers as well and am debating rooting.
Just looking at the stickies in General section would save you from opening yet another thread on the subject

Follow the guide for rooted N1s from here:

Let me know how it goes for you.
I am on Rogers and experienced EXTREME instability the moment I flashed the Froyo radio. My phone would crash randomly and frequently.
I suspect it was a problem with my hardware and have returned the phone and am waiting for a new one.

thx jack, I appreciate it.... sorry for the thread... but in my experience... it is easier having your hand held by someone experienced.... then assuming I am following the right one, lol.... so I follow that entire thread to go from rogers to whatever build I need? heh
I will try this in approx 2 hours.... when the yard work is done!
early quick question, when I go to "CyanogenMod"
it takes me to a thread, but I do not see the download, what am I not seeing? heh
I am at this part
Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img
it says cannot load image recovery? thx
well everything was working great up until this point, tried it 100 times, heh... so now I sit and wait for guidance? thx
Mr.Kakarot, have you put the .img in the same folder as fastboot? Or, alternatively, if fastboot is in your PATH, you won't have this problem.
i renamed the image to recovery.img and that seemed to work? I will continue after supper!

followed that first thread to a T and it worked out... had 2 minor stalls but I got through it... I am doing this stuff off and on, thx for that thread... this is going to be a STUPID question I am sure... but following that first thread, what have I done? unlocked, rooted and installed google add ons? phone looks awesome, I will do the rest after supper!
hmmm, got it, lol
done, running 2.2.... so tomorrow at work, i guess I will see if I have any issues....
now that this is done, can I re install that sense ui? What should I do or try now that I have done those 2 tutorials? thx
first off there are no 2.2 froyo/sense roms available as of yet.. so if you want to use a desire rom youre more than likely going to want to downgrade to the latest 2.1 radio that works well with your carrier/area, as froyo has its own radio and needs it to run properly.. once you downgrade.. nandroid>wipe>flash
yea, I did not know it would put me back to 2.1, lol.... went back and then back again to 2.2, lol... sense sure looked good!
Any ideas, suggestions, tips for 2.2? I installed flash! thx
How stable is your phone with the Froyo radio? Any unexplained reboots yet?
well it was quite late by the time I did it, I was playing with it, went to a few flash websites.... and no reboots or shutdowns, I also just woke up.... so I will know today after a full day work/playing, thx
one of the bugs is my camera does not work for video... so I have to update the radio, any suggestions! thx
Nope thats pretty much what you need to do is update the radio
thanks, but I am not gonna lie... still not sure which are radios, roms, senses, lol.... could you point me to the one I need.... or does it matter? thx, I just do not want to brick, obviously!
Also, I did not do this step.... is this what I need to do, or is it unrelated?
11) You should still have root, but if you want BusyBox (or lost root somehow), Cyanogen has done it again! Go back into Recovery and flash froyo-rooter-signed.zip. Then Titanium Backup will work once again.
does not sound like something I need or use, so I did not do it....
as far as stability... my 3g signal looked low all day... but I never had a dropped call, instability or any reboots/crashes.... all is well! thx
go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6734240&postcount=9532
havent had problems with the older one, but am going to try the new one just to see.
anyone around?
I tried these 3 things
Step_One_Froyo_Radio_Update.zip
step-two-RoDrIgUeZsTyLe-FroYo-MCR-R16-MOD-V1.8-FIX.zip
and then i ran
2.6.34_AVS-925mV_CFS_1113Mhz_061210.zip
anytime I run setcpu, I get this error
the application process com.mhuang.overclocking has stopped unexpectedly, please try again?
"uninstalled and reinstalled, worked. thx"

First Attempt at Modding my Samsung Captivate…..

I just got my first REAL smartphone, actually it’s still on FedEx truck.
From reading the stickies on this forum, here’s what I gathered so far (and I am starting from scratch – nothing on my phone yet)
1) Root my phone with the ‘OneClick’ tool.
2) Install ROM (I am thinking Cognition, since it’s recommended for beginner).
3) Install Theme (haven’t decide on one yet) – any suggestions?
So, am I missing anything?
You seem to have a good grasp on what you are doing. I do recommend buying/making a Jig to have around just in case.
You're well on your way.
Make sure and read up on bootloaders and the difference between 2.1/2.2 and 2.3 bootloaders as getting this wrong is the main thing that can lead to "big" trouble.
Also take a look at Odin, Odin One Click return to stock and make sure and know the difference between those and the Odin One Click w/3 Button Combo.
thanks guys, i think i have a good idea of what i want to do but i am still struggling to find the details to do the above.
for example, what difference if my phone batch is 1010, or 1012, or older?
do i need to get an microsd card, if so what size/brand?
what sofware do i need to download?
etc, etc. etc.
i will continue to browse through the forums, but if you know of any links please post.
also, what does the jig do? do i need to have one?
thanks
First decide what u want to do, As u stated first root the phone and then u want a custom ROM, So go ahead and try it.
Only thing i will advice start from a froyo rom then to the gingerbread as there would be less chances to brick your phone while flashing the b.loades.
Read the OP properly of the ROM which you want to flash there are many good froyo rom available here. But just be sure what u are doing.
Please for the love of all things unholy, read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049294
and if the phone comes with froyo you will need this after rooting before flashing a rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052991
At the start DEFINITE GUIDE TO BRICKING, LOL.
Its just a joke be sure you read it all.

thanks, yes from what i've read it's better to stay away from the gingerbread roms - at least for novice like myself.
My personal favorite were Firefly 3.0 and serendipity 6.4 links below.

Again i will say read the OP carefully before flashing.
I have a few Captivates in the family and IMHO the first thinkg to do before flashing anything is to purchase Root Explorer in the market (for around $4) then back up your EFS folder (in the main directory) and save it to a cd so you ALWAYS have a hard copy of it. These files are specific to your phone and if they get screwed up during flashing, you phone may not be able to be used as a phone anymore. The back up copy will save you.
All of the above stuff is good. I was a noob about 6 months ago but I spent hours upon hours of reading and watching videos about flashing and moding. Good luck!

the OP is the original post or poster, like your first question is the op, and you are also the op of the thread. in that context he meant the original post, because that will have most of the information about the rom...but i would expand on that to read the op and the a couple of pages in, and also if its a large thread with alot of posts read atleast the LAST 5 or 6 pages also.
anymore terms you are unfamiliar with read the op of this thread carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093062
thanks for clarying.
just got my phone in the mail.
i looked at the batch number under the battery slot and it shows 1106.
does this mean i have version 2.1 or 2.2? what would be the appropriate app/tool for rooting?
thanks
The batch had nothing to do with the firmware....that just means your phone was built in june of 2011. But since it's a new phone it more than likely has 2.2 confirm this in settings>about phone> firmware version.
Use super one click to root.
BUT FIRST PLEASE READ SOME MORE.
All of the information you are looking is already on here at the very least twice probably WAY more.
it is indeed version 2.2
so i read the first page of this thread and also watched the youtube clip. it looks straight enough to root. but i got a question. should i run the universal root or the captivate root?

I would use SuperOneClick to root 2.2, however, the only version that was successful for me was version 1.6.5. The newer versions gave me errors or said FAILED when trying to root. For me, it has always worked with 1.6.5
thanks, but i only see v1.7 and v1.95. where can i get v1.65?
also, i do not need the samsung driver for rooting right? only for flashing?

You should have the driver installed on your computer for anything you do with the phone. Make sure after you install drivers to plug in your phone to the computer in all the different modes it has - in debugging mode, not in debug mode, in download mode, and connecting as an external drive. The computer will install all the drivers when you do this.
I will try to attach v1.6.5 of Super One CLick. I hope it's ok with the moderators here that I am posting the software. Just unzip the folder and double click the android icon in that folder.

I finally bought the new Galaxy Note and well I think I may have done something wrong. I unboxed it, turned it on played with it a bit. Then I rooted it so far all seemed fine. Then i installed clockworkmod and this is where things went wrong now no matter what i do when it boots it goes straight to clockworkmod recovery. Please anyone that is on help, To be honest i am freaking out because i forgot to look and write down the info for this phone so I am not even sure if i can flash it back to stock and start over.
THANK YOU so much to anyone who helps.

How did you root it? Did you use the zergrush exploit? Odin? If you can get to CWM recovery, you could trying flashing a GB ROM, stock firmware, or a nandroid backup...if you made one of those?
First of all thank you for taking the time to help me, I do apprecaite it. I used ODIN to root the phone. I also used ODIN to install clockwork. It will boot straight into clockwork with no problem. Do you know of where I can find a stock rom and go back to the way the phone was when i bought it? I have no idea of what was on it when i bought it forgot to go to about phone to write down the info. I feel so stupid right now.
It doesn't really matter what was on your phone when you bought it. Just go here, download one of the older stock Roms (KK9 would be my choice, easily rootable via zergrush method), and flash it using PC Odin.
After you're done, root it and upgrade stock, flash custom Roms, whatever.

I'm glad you're in the clear now.
So in order to get the phone back to the way it was original when bought, if i follow those instructions and download the kk9 one and then let the phone update everything will be like it was. Think i will hold off on rooting and stuff till i learn more cant afford to mess this phone up.

Idea to try restoring system after update.

Okay, so before I found anything about custom ROM or anything, I'd already updated the system to 6.6. So, common knowledge seems to indicate that I can't do much to restore stock.. But what I was wondering, would it be possible to fastboot into twrp and flash one of the pre-update roms, them follow normal conventions to flash twrp? I've seen similar questions asked, but the threads are stale, and no suggestions how. So, is there anyone who can test if such a process can work? Otherwise, is there a stock ROM that I could zip, sign, if it's possible to sign a zip, and install through stock recovery as update.zip? When I've tried to hard boot into recovery, it just says no command found, but there should have to be a way to interact with the stock recovery. I'm just throwing out ideas, but if anyone knows anything, please let me know.
