What's the best way to show off the 1080p display? And videos or movies or perhaps any games?

Maybe download the 3Dmark benchmark app? It's pretty!
Or load this up in HD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bEtJgnd86M

I think the best way is to go to the same website on their non-1080p phone and zoom in and out on text to show how much smoother it looks on yours at all the different sizes. Then watch a video (timescapes posted above is an excellent one to use, and has the advantage of being excellent for showing off the speakers as well) on both phones so they can see how much better yours looks.

You should be able to stream video if you have an HTC MediaLinkHD.
This will only work with videos/music stored locally on the tablet. It will not clone your display, so no surfing the web or games on the tv. Just streaming movies and music to a tv.
I was toying with it last night on my transformer prime. I tried bubble upnp, imediashare, etc... All of them would stream music no issues, but the video would always fail.
Then I found this free app, and every video I tested worked. In most cases, this worked better then the pairing between my evoLTE and the medialink.
If you search the play store for medialink , you should find an app called Wi-Fi Media by Cavium (wont show up when searching for Wi-Fi Media). Install it, choose your movie, and set the renderer to the medialink.
profit???

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5iaWFub3IuYW1zY2F2aXVtIl0.
Of course I don't have the Nexus7 yet. But if anyone does, and has the medialink and wants to try it I don't see why it would be any different then my prime running AOKP.
This would be an expensive option if you don't own a newer HTC device and already own a medialink. But seems the option is there at least.
The no video output was more of a deal breaker to me then the storage, and that seems to be a non-issue now. If I could just find one in stock.
we can't have an app for make a mirror screen such as htc one x use 3 fingers to mirror the screen is not possible with a mod in next rom custom ?
I've been using the the media link and the Wi-Fi media app with my nexus 7 and must say it works well. We take it with us now just in case we need to keep the kids quiet with a film. The video quality at 720p source is very good and it hasn't stuttered once.

Don't know if I would have bought one though. I got mine free from phones 4U, when I got my one x.

I have one but mirroring kind of sucked and it was all that was available outside of the stock player and YouTube which actually sent the content via MediaLink (not just mirroring) on my HTC One X. I'll give it a shot with my Nexus 7 tonight. I was underwhelmed with the device using my HTC One X but I hope that it's better with the Nexus 7. Fingers crossed!
This should essentially be the same thing, a lot cheaper... once it releases.

Should have a beta out in the next 4 weeks, they are planning support for the n7.
Can anyone confirm if it works using play store movies that have DRM?

Can anyone provide a categoric answer on whether the HTC Media Link HD will play movies downloaded onto the Nexus 7 from the Play store that have DRM protection?
I think answering this single question will stop a lot of people hunting around and ultimately creating similar threads on the Nexus to TV issue.
Thanks.

How is this possible? At 1280x800 we have 1,024,000 pixels, at 32bit color depth that gives 32mbit per full screen image, so standard 60hz video would require just shy of 2gb/s... Wifi can't do anywhere close to 2 gigabit per second, 802.11n theoretical max is only 600 megabit and that's using 4 spatial streams which no consumer hardware supports... for most home users their max is going to be about 300 megabit/second using 40mhz channels and 2 spatial streams with a guard interval of 400ns (and even that is hard to achieve). At 300mb/s you'll get a frame rate of less than 10hz without compression.
So how the hell are they doing it?
I thought would start this post since I didn't see one where people could some of there favorite video apps that don't come stock on the N7. Her is my list:
1. Netflix - pretty good app and greatest availability of streaming movies you will find from a monthly service.
2. Xfinity Player: Nice updates to the UI for 7 inch tablets and really good for catching up on old episodes of Spartacus.
3. Crunchyroll: The premiere app for watching animes that are subbed and best of all they have a free option that works over Wi-Fi. Doesn't work over Bluetooth tethering, but ICS built in Wi-Fi tethering is just fine if you don't mind the ads.
4. HomeDia: A nice free app that allows you to stream videos on your home network. I paired mine up with plex media server since you have to pay for tversity and it has worked well. If it doesn't play a video just use a third video player app like rockplayer.
5. Dailymotion: To be honest the only reason I use this app is to catch up with subbed anime episodes of OnePiece, outside of that nothing really else for me.
The good thing about these apps are they are free to download and numbers 1, 2, and 5 have apps for the Xbox 360. Well those are mine, so what are yours?

All I ever use is netflix for streaming and mx or dice player for playing movies via stickmount.

Crackle has some good free movies and tv shows. I also like to browse vimeo using the app, there are lots of cool videos on there.
If you like to watch current TV DROID TV Primetime actually works very well on the N7. There are quite a few free shows but for @$9 for three months you can get shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Greys Anatomy, and dozens of others. I have used it for over a year on my DROID X and it sizes up really well to the 7inch for factor.

Are you doing this on a N7?
I had problems with it on my N7 in that I couldn't get it to lower/hide the info when the video was playing. Unless I am missing something .... On my phone it worked just fine.
UPDATE
Now if this isn't stupid on my part..... if you touch the video when it is playing, a icon shows on the bottom left to make it Full Screen... thought I had tried everything...

Thanks I didnt know that Crackle would work with the N7 unless I installed flash. So far it looks pretty good, I just dont like how the UI doesn't work that well in portrait mode. Hey that's what updates are for.

Looks like they were ripped from flickr using a "Nexus 4" search.
Hey, thanks for the photos! Can you please say if the muse show pic were taken during movie mode, or Nexu 4+Android 4.2 allows for native 16:9 photos?
Thanks in advance!

Earlier when i tested ....the sd card booster was set at 128kb
Then i changed over to value 2038 and still theres lag while playing videos.
I again mention..these are .flv type 320p videos.
thnk u.
Mx is the best u will get. Playing vids at high Res like 720 is hit or miss so guys please lay of it this. Were all experienced enough to know it struggles to play. This post is old enough to say this. I myself have tried all video playing apps and have gone back to Mx. I stream vidoes fine in normal Res so why the need for 720. If u want to play 720 get a top spec phone from the shop.

Whats some good content I can download online that would look good on our display? Would a blueray rip of xxxx (insert favorite movie) make a good candidate.
I've also heard that for the best possible picture that nothing beats animated movies. So for example Shrek in 1080p would look great. Does anyone agree?
