Has Anyone Overclocked Jelly Bean? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I've been a reader of this forum for a while. I've finally regained root after losing it during the update. Thanks Marty for the root exploit. The main thing I like to do with root is overclock. Has anyone achieved this? I see benchmarks that show it has been done on the Bionic running JB. Thanks!

Anyone? No one? Will the method they're using for the Razr work?

Has anyone here overclocked a Bionic on Jelly Bean? If you have, please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

As far as I recall, 1250mhz is as high as you can get on this hardware. You should be @ 1200 already, so I imagine the difference would be negligible.

I was running 1370 stable on ics. Just need a kernel I think.

I couldn't get it to show the higher frequencies but maybe you'll have better luck with it
It lagged for me, it defaults the min to 100 and couldn't get 300 to stick.

Overclocked at 1300 right now
Currently I am overclocked at around 1300, 1400 made the device freeze. I achieved this by installing a custom ROM, if you go to Motorola Droid Bionic > Droid Bionic Development > Blurry 2.4 and install that rom, it has built in kernels that allow overclocking.

Sorry for being a noob, but how do you overclock it? And is their a difference when its overclocked?

Over clocking to my understanding is a feature that some kernels have along with additional scripts added. I personally use Motomizer Expert to set the CPU values to above normal (my values originally were 300, 600, 800 and then 1000) I have it overclocked to where my processor runs at 1300. I then set the value to the maximum using SetCPU. All it does is make your processor run faster than normal, making the phone snappier and faster overall, not by much, but enough to notice. I hope this helps, and keep in mind I am also a n00b, so if I am wrong, I'm sorry and maybe someone more knowledgeable can help you.

The kernel is difficult to change till the boot loader is unlocked (most likely will never happen). Of coarse kexec kernel is the only way for now.

I have tried the Kexec Kernel, unfortunately, it allowed me to underclock to 100, but it wouldnt allow me to set any values about 1000. That is when I started looking into OC'able ROMS. and Blurry is the one I liked best. AOKP is nice, but it didn't have the kernel built in. I have not tried Liquid Smooth and CM 10.1 was just not for me. Hope this helps.

[Q] Overclock question

I am using Setcpu on my motorola droid with rooted FRG22. Why wont it let me overclock it higher than 800mhz??? I'm kinda new to doing this and wondering if I'm doing anything wrong. Thank you

Yes you have SetCPU and your phone is rooted. However, you're missing one more piece to the puzzle. In order for you to clock over 800Hz you have to install a kernal cooresponding to the voltage and what you want to overclock it to. I recommend you googling(haha) p3designs and choose a kernal you want to try. Instructions are on the site as to how to install. I currently have a low voltage of 125Mhz overclocked at 1Ghz. Hope that helps
Question for you Stephen, with you running 1.2Ghz on your droid, has there been any istances of freezing thus far? I was tempted to go higher, though I stuck with 1Ghz to be safe.

The right approach to overclocking is not how fast can you go, but how low can you tolerate? Most Droids are stable to 1.2 ghz. Some can go higher, some can't. I'm running the "stock" 1ghz kernel that comes with Sapphire rom. However, I have it choked back to 800mhz. This gives me 36 hours of battery life on light-moderate use, (3G off, wifi on) but also lag-free performance.
This is chevys 1.25 medium voltage, only reboots were with watching movies online.

I understand what you mean. I've done the trial between 800Mhz and 1Ghz. I have emulators now and I liked the performance on the 1Ghz more because of the speed, so I kept it on 1Ghz. I haven't had any battery drainage issue and all. I liked my low voltage 1Ghz kernal.

Its slower than the CM6 kernal. I ran a linpack of 27 and quadrant of 1277. This was both running "performance" mode, and turning set cpu to the max which was 1000. I Am going to give it a try, maybe the battery life will make up for the performance loss. If not, nandroid here I come.

I just hope it fixes my WiFi shutting off constantly.
Seems to be really solid, a bit slower than cm-6 but also took care my screen flicker and haven't found any negatives yet (1.0+ hr up time) . Looking forward to some overclock variations. Thanks for the work adrynalyne.

Did you say that the top speed showed 1000 in setcpu vs. 998400?
unstable for me on 9/10 nightly wifi on and no setcpu, 3 random lockups/reboots in past 2 hrs
32.61 linpack and 1341 quadrant. Its not much slower than cm-6. @adrynalyn, do you plan on bumping up the clock speeds? Mine is showing 1000 max btw. Thanks again

1k max for me as well. 998 didn't seem to be an option.
I'm getting similar performance as I get with kernels i compiled from koush's source where i only changed cpu speeds for overclocking and udervolting. Not as fast as koush's even when i bumped it up to 1.19Ghz. Which i couldn't figure out why since i used exact same source

Thanks for all the info on here that I used to root my NC and sideload apps. I was wondering since we have seen that an OC is possible during the root process, what is needed to make an overclocked kernel for the NC?
The stock kernel isn't going to allow it, but it should be possible on custom kernels.
Then again I may be completely talking out of my ass.
Well we were waiting on the source but thats been released sp now we need someone to build a custom kernel ...and ofcourse i can and probably am talking out of my ass but i think that sounds right

See this post. I tried it one more time and I think the touch sensitivity is just my imagination. As far as performance is concerned, it doesn't seem to make any appreciable difference.
The 3630 and 3621 voltages in the power profiles probably need to be mixed and matched since the normal 3621 profile is at a lower voltage at the same speeds as the 3630.

It's been done. So very very few phones are even stable at 800, and those that could generally performed worse in benches at 800 than at lower clocks. Many of these devices bootloop above 700.
Cyanogen 8 will not come out yet since will most likely be ice cream sandwich. I am not even sure is 2.3.5 will even come out and no the devs can not overclock this device to 800mhz because is 768 is the limit of the processor. Most people's phones do not even run that smoothly at 768 anyways. If somehow the dev found a way to overclock it to 800 (impossible btw but this is just a what if kind of statement) since the processor can not handle 800 it would just overheat the thing and cause crashes.
Also, on a side note, this should not be in the Development section. This should be in general or Q&A

CM8 will be next, obviously. It will be based on Ice Cream Sandwich, so no, it won't be in development until ICS is released to AOSP so that the CM team can start using that code. 2.3.5 is an update coming out soon for the Nexus S 4G that fixes wifi and network speed, as well as adding more secure NFC for Google Wallet. It won't really affect us when it is merged into CM7. ICS is expected to be Android 4.0, but it could be 3.5 if Google decides.

Performance was actually worse at the highest CPU clock, in my experience. Just stick with 768Mhz. It's stable and chances are that you can get even better performance at a lower clock. I can confirm that the Godmode kernel was able to push some phones, such as mine, past 800Mhz. Although I had a faster processor speed, my battery would drain incredibly fast as well as overheat. Even though I never hit a bootloop with the kernel, the battery life, overheating, and loss of performance kept me away. Sacrificing too much for having a faster processor speed. Normally I overclock to about 729Mhz and have great battery life, speed and performance in conjunction with a min of 19Mhz and a smartass governor.

Thanks. I am glad someone at least confirmed it. I never knew about the godmode kernel as ive only been here for a little bit. Sorry for misinformed post about their not being an 800mhz kernel. As I can see, i was wrong, but also I was correct in saying that the processor can not handle it....sometimes

Yup, I'm at 806 - 19 ondemand while posting this and I can already feel it slowing down a little. 729 - 19 on demand is my best setup. I've tested a lot with trying higher setups than that but so far 729 seems to be the best for battery life and performance on every rom I've ever tried

For some reason my phone never works well with higher clock speeds no matter what rom or kernel i use. I get my best results at 710-352 performance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've noticed is that newer Hero's that were sold with Eclair as opposed to the original Donut, when I bought mine, are not able to reach those higher processor speeds past 691Mhz.

i bought mine at radio shack back in september and it was still on 1.5 and ive never been able to get over 768mhz without it freezing and bootlooping its different with every hero.
i stay at 352-691 ondemand and thats plenty fast for me
Mine was running 1.5 also and it will run fine at 768 but battery life suffers so I usually run at 352/710 and battery and performance are good (depends on rom kernel)

I actually got mine two weeks after it came out.....so i mean it could just be that this phone is dead now. I never had a refurb or anything. I got it wet once but it got repaired. I've only had this one the whole time. Do you think that is the issue?

just wondering why 19? Ive seen people do that but can the processor really ever do anything at 19? if so, doesnt it affect stuff like wake. Im trying it now just to see for myself. Ive been playing with a really high min value between 480 and 576 with the high at 748 and it actually doesnt only seems to affect battery life a little, both on the .29 and .35 kernels on jaybobs roms and on OMFGB.

so update, ive run it at 19/768 on demand all day and after 11hrs 13 min its at 60% thats not bad for my phone! and there was almost no performance difference. Just the slightest UI lag... this is on jaybobs 7/8 with the .29 kernel, with background data off. And my regular usage which is not a lot. but for me its good. i wish I had tried it ages ago.

I believe that you can set the ramp up frequency and that may help with the lag. Setcpu, advanced settings, I think?

1. Played with some voltages making changes within Nvidia requirements
2. Increased overclock to 1.5 ghz (YAY!!! It's going to be pretty hot in there)
3. Increased audio bitrate for HD 1080p (since the older one had a lower bitrate)

Changes:
1. ROM changes made to optimize overclock settings. This ROM will have a maximum speed of 1.4 ghz without the use of overclocking apps. If you wish to undervolt, then you can use PimpCPU, SetCPU, CPUMaster, System Tuner and etc....
2. Modifited bitrate and FPS for 1080p video recording for better result (IMHO but your input on this will be greatly appreciated)
3. The rest is regular Cyanogen gingerbread with fingerprint mods by the dev team

It's the same kernel so it will not boot Didn't have time to play with the kernel because I was excited in compiling cyanogen mod in my new quad core which compiled in 23 minutes (last time I tried it on my laptop which was a core duo, it took me 7 hours).
It could be a couple of reasons.
1. GPU, AVP etc where overclocked
2. Memory timings where pretty aggresive
Exact same kernel? No changes to it? (Like patching to .53 from .48)

That are some of the uv options in mv, on the faux kernel I can get the 216mhz down to 300MV so I was just wondering what I can expect from UV kernel with elite.

Flashed this rom after using the CM9 port for a few days and missing my cam and LED flashlight. So far this is fast and no issues. I was a huge fan of the kernal and now I am a fan of the rom. Keep up the good work.

I was under the assumption that this was a combo and would work for either Cyanogen or a Gingerbread ROM but i can not get it to work with Wet Dream. However the ClemsynATT1.4elite works flawless.

What is your wifi setting or 3g setting at? on all the time or just completely off ?? sleep policy?
