HTC One Remote not working with any hardware - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been playing with the HTC One Remote for a few days now. No matter what I do I can not get it to work with any of my TV's, Cable Boxes, or Receivers. I am not sure if this is a app issue or a hardware issue. I am not sure how to make sure.
I have put the remote to the Phone and it states the phone learned the function. But when I try to use it on the TV it still will not do anything.
I still have a week to return or exchange the phone. Is there a way I can find out if this is a hardware issue or not? I have done some searching and seems like this App is hit or miss. Did see there is a update coming. It will be after my return period.
Thanks for any help

I just saw somebody post a similar problem with the s4 remote and it was resolved when they cleared the cache on the remote app. Maybe try that?

They are in the family room and bedroom. I have made myself with in a few inches of the port on the TV and no luck.

Can you see a red light (from the IR blaster) when you press a button, say, mute?
You should be able to see it, otherwise it could be defective.
Also, as Blue1k asked, what are your devices?

I cannot see any light coming from the IR port on the phone. I have the room mostly dark.
What I have tired to program.
Down Stairs
Insignia TV
Comcast Cable Box
Sony Receiver
Bed Room
Toshiba TV
Comcast Cable box
******* update******
I just got a hold of someone else HTC One. I tried it in my TV setup and it worked great. So it my phone. So at least I found it out before my 14 days where up.

As I said earlier, you should be able to see a red light. It goes on for a fraction of a second, but it's there and clearly visible.
Well, at least you found it out in time!

Got a new phone. Loving this APP!

System reboots during audio playback

I've been experiencing weird issues mostly during Spotify audio streaming as well as during playing local files and a video once. It will play music fine for a couple songs then it will stop all sound yet show that it is still playing. From that point generally if I skip to the next track it will hard reboot. I tried a factory reset already but it hasn't helped. Anyone know my options here? I'd return it but I dropped the phone about a foot yesterday and the glass cracked near the volume buttons, it doesn't go over the screen but it's enough that I couldn't return it now.

My wife was complaining about something similar today, except hers didn't reboot, but she also might not have tried to skip track. Just to mention though, Spotify dropped an updated version to the play store today. Perhaps that might fix your issue?

You're not the only one. A friend dropped his on Saturday and got a crack all the way across the back/home/menu buttons. I thought these things were supposed to have Gorilla Glass on them... Anyways, you could always go to AT&T's website and purchase the insurance since you're still in the 30 day window, for $6.99/mo, and then pay the $125 deductible to get a replacement...

Unfortunately it has happened during a video, during Spotify (multiple versions, found a list of many old APKs on their forum) and also during Pandora so I'm not really sure what to do but wait and hope someone with more knowledge points me in the right direction.

I'll probably just leave it the way it is since it doesn't actually affect the glass. If I ever figure out how to add a warranty I'll probably do it now so I can replace it once I'm fed up with looking at the crack. Thanks for the suggestions!
After you log in to myatt, if you hover over the myatt menu, and then wireless, there's an option about mobile insurance. If you go there, it gives you the option to add insurance to eligible devices.

I did a factory reset and installed only Spotify and the reboot occurred in 5 songs and was accompanied by a loud high pitched sound that persisted until it finally rebooted. Looks like I have dud.
Might be worth seeing if you can get it fixed under warranty for that issue Ewen disregarding the damage...

Yeah you're right, I contacted HTC first (haha) to see what they have to say about replacing it even though the glass is cracked. If it ends up being 200+ to get it fixed I don't know what I'll end up doing. Sucks because other than the audio reboots and the crack this phone is my favorite android phone ever and I've had a lot of them.

It's happened in Google Music both local and streamed, Spotify, Pandora and one video on a website. I called HTC and have an RMA in progress

I haven't had any issues with audio playback. I've spent a bunch of hours on pocket casts listening with no hiccups or issues.

Similarly, I've listened to Pocket Casts and Spotify each for hours on end without issue, so it definitely sounds like an RMA is the best bet. Good luck

Thanks, it's in the box and ready to ship. Hopefully there is some development going on by the time I get a working one back, it kinda surprises me there isn't more interest in this. It's the first Android phone that felt right in my hand, was decently quick, easy to get to stock and had great battery life.

[Q] Back button light

Hi all, I've noticed that when the hard keys light up, the back button is lit up but not as brightly as the other two. Has anyone else noticed this too or do I have a hardware fault? Thanks.

Hi, I think 901s as I'm in SE Asia. It is noticeably dimmer than the other two. The shop said they'd get back to me.
I'm using a 901s and all three buttons are lit pretty equally. Sadly there doesn't appear to be a way to alter the brightness in the settings.
901s here and they are all the same brightness.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback. I've been informed by HTC I will be getting a one to one exchange. Waiting for the shop to call me.

It is a great phone. So much better than the one. This is what the one should have been. Anyway, think I found a bug in the music app. Happened on two of my earlier ones.( had the black before the silver one). The music will start skipping and tripping for no reason when using headset. Sometimes, it takes a while, sometimes straight away. Really annoying. Sometimes calls last number. Anyone else? Cheers.

Seems that the button on the headset is too sensitive, so it's accidently pressed when wearing, so you have such problem. I have HTC RC E160 which came for me in the box and I also experienced such things when buttons were pressed by my bag, although they're tougher.

It happened with my old sensation xe beats headset too. If I unplug and plug headset, then the problem goes away. Maybe something to do with the jack. Shouldn't be happening.
Hi all, finally got my new phone. All lights working now. :good:
Sad that I too have this problem. Gonna go to HTC Service Centre and try to get a new one. And if I'm not wrong its the 901s model.

Guess we must be the unlucky two. Didn't even cross my mind to check for this. Anyway, hard to notice when buying the phone during the daytime. It should be a one to one exchange. Good thing I didn't root it yet. Otherwise, HTC will no doubt give you a song and dance.

Terrible Camera

This camera is frustrating me. I'm trying to cash a check and it's so bad I can't even deposit a check through my mobile bank of America app. Never had this problem on my gs3.

I've deposited at least 5 checks that way, I don't recall ever having an issue.
Clean off the lens?
Might be a problem with your phone specifically. Camera is decent enough for that.

No camera issues here, but haven't done online check deposit.
You didn't happen to mention what version of Jelly Bean you were running.
There was a camera update in 4.2.2 and Verizon has recently released 4.4 KitKat.
Perhaps check for updates if you haven't already.

I had the same problem with the Chase app. The problem is that for some reason, the check gets cut off on the left side even though the whole check is in the viewfinder. I pull back a little more to make sure to get the whole check and it works fine.

Yeah, its my US Bank app that messes the picture up as well. I deposit my checks all of the time, but it will stretch the picture vertically and shrink it horizontally.

My usaa app was pretty fussy with my gnex, but worked on my moto x just fine. Maybe they released a bad update or something?

The Bank of America app just doesn't work right on some phones. It's pretty crappy. Not the fault of the Moto X camera. Never works with my HTC One either. Pretty sure the app doesn't handle cameras with 16:9 aspect ratio sensors correctly.

I still couldn't get the Chase app to take a good enough picture to deposit, but they just put a new version out that put black bars on the screen to restrict the area of the check image, and it works for me now.
It's not the camera, it's the app. I first started having issues with the BoA app on my Note 2 after an update awhile back. I found that holding the phone about 12" above the check works best. I always have to make sure all the corners are visible, make sure there are no shadows visible, and the check has to be as flat as possible.

Unplug Chromecast from the TV, plug power into Chromecast, plug Chromecast into TV.
Beyond that, try a different TV/monitor.
If you still get invalid signal, Chromecast itself might be broken.
Also try a different Input if you have one available....

finally tried a different television, and it worked fine... seems like its my tv now,but i dont understand how cuz its worked fine up until a week or so ago...
I had this same issue last year. Google never wanted to take responsibility since the issue started after one of their unsolicited updates. They walked me through "fixes" and even sent me a warranty replacement. Funny thing was that it came on the very first firmware and worked... until the update was pushed to it. I just gave up.

Definitely file a report if it goes from working to not. Unfortunately the forced update nature of the Chromecast ecosystem makes things like this possible...
Most likely CC is trying to use a resolution or format that it didn't before, and now it's making the TV confused.

It happened to my tv as well(and most 720P TVs).
Something in one of the updates(around January) caused the chromecast to not properly handshake with the TV.
They are blaming it on badly formed EDID signals(which reports the available/best resolutions it accepts) from some TV's.
If you file a bug through the chromecast app, maybe they'll get enough complaints to fix it.

Is it the earphones or the phone ?

Ok so I've got these red earphones(ones that came with phone) and some other Samsung ones, anyway I've realized lately that the red ones don't work if I plug em in straight away, but I have to keep plugging it in and out of the earphone jack while spinning it until I see the earphones icon, but if I use some other earphones they work straight away
BUT
If I put those red ones in any other phone they work immediately..
So it's really confusing here if it's the earphones or the phone..
Could be a coincidence but I had the same problem with my red headphones that came with the phone. Now I'm using some white ones my gf got with her M8 and have zero problems. I also had trouble switching songs when I double tapped the button on the headset..it didn't seem to want to respond. So I just threw them out

Weird, if no one else posted about it then maybe it's associated with the updates or something.. because it hasn't been happening for really long, thing Is, the red ones don't have their own characteristics to be having issues with the software.... Wtf

This issue is very common. I see at least 1-2 threads for that issue each month. So I don't think its related to the update.
