I'am worried that if I send in my one to get repairs they'll notice that it's rooted and won't be able to fix it.

that's not correct, they will see that you've unlocked the bootloader... anyway if you root the phone it MAY void your warranty... hardware problems should be still covered by warranty
This has been asked many times. As a safe answer, yes rooting voids your warranty. But its not as simple as that, and it all depends on local consumer laws. In the UK HTC would have to prove that rooting caused the fault in order to reject a warranty repair. In theory only if you brick your device HTC should have the right to deny a repair. In practice they can come up with any excuse for any fault (e.g. your screen doesn't work anymore because you rooted, change to a ROM that modified parameters that caused the screen to fail etc.). And no, if you root and unroot, your bootloader status will be RE-LOCKED instead of LOCKED, so they will know if you previously rooted the device and could still deny a repair.

Dude if you mess with your phone with rooting or flashing other roms be prepared to have your warranty voided. That's the risk you take. Unrooting isn't magically going to bring the warranty back.

I believe he means, he 're-locked the bootlloader and either put stock back on through an RUU or he just installed a stock looking Rom.
If you unlocked your boot loader through revone odds are your warranty is fine! If you used the HTC website then your warranty MAY be void.
Best thing to do, is just run a RUU, and send it in. Some people have sent in their devices S-off and Unlocked.

Hello,
I dont want to open new topic. I am on the latest 4.3 version with One and I want to make root, just root, no custom roms, just root for some apps. Can you please tell me the easiest, fastest and safest way to do that ? And also what should I do in order to make warranty in the future valid, like backup of stock rom or something.
Thanks a lot

Tnx but I am reading that there is some Revone way of unlocking bootloader and then I dont get re-locked in case of warranty, is that way harder to make ? I was hoping for some SuperOneClickRoot possibility

Hey guys!
Im thinking of buying the HTC One, but stuck between that and the Xperia ZL.
The reason i want the ZL is for the camera button and the UI - ESP. the UI, it's beautiful.
But then there's this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2101920
A port of the Z (ZL, same thing) Launcher. This can be ported to any phone. WITH widgets!!
Now, i love the UI, but lets face it - Every spec and stat of the HTC One is better than that of the Xperia ZL. I have let myself down by not going the top of the line before, lots of regrets. I want to stick to the One, but for this Launcher, i need to root.
Would this be sufficient to root the phone and install the launcher? http://theunlockr.com/2013/03/19/how-to-root-the-htc-one-m7/
or do i need to S-OFF
Please, anyone!
Thanks!

Well if you run an RUU it'll go back to its out-of-the-box status
Other than that, you can relock the bootloader, but it shows the status as "relocked" so reps would be able to see that you have unlocked the bootloader and suspect that you rooted at some point

when you unlock the phone they say that the warranty MAY be void, so it doesn't mean that your warranty is completely voided... but you can't hide the fact that you have unlocked the bootloader, unless they find a solution to s-off the phone every user have to live with this unfortunately...
Yup. Until s-off once you unlock there's no going back.

Yup. Your stuck. However, I read somewhere that HTC had said they will only not warranty your device if your software modding caused the issue. If it is a legitimate hardware defect they will still honor the warranty.

chances are if you take it to the store they wont even check if its rooted or anything. they will look at the screen and phone if there is no physical damage they will exchange it.
Even with S-Off you send your devices details to HTC when you request your unlock.

you can relock the bootloader but you cant go back to stock yet. your best bet is to install a stock looking rom take it to the store and show the the dead pixels and get them to exchange it. but i think there might be something in the warranty about a certain number of dead pixels to be considered defective. at least thats the way it is with lcd tvs

You do know that the S state has no effect on the warranty, in fact some HTC Ones have rolled out of the assembly plant with S-OFF.

I found this information in the other forum, but i haven't try
http://rumrunner.us/
Wait, what’s this? Why does this download page look so different?
After careful consideration and some testing, we’ve decided to release a more “universal” version of rumrunner. This version will work on multiple htc devices, so many we can’t possibly test them all. Which devices? Well….
HTC One
HTC One X/XL
HTC One Max
HTC One Mini
HTC One S (s3 and s4 models)
HTC Evo 4G LTE
HTC First
HTC Butterfly
HTC Butterfly S
Probably others. In fact, this should work with nearly every modern Qualcomm based HTC device. Yep, you read that correctly.
Also, the prerequisites have changed a bit. We now support rooted devices (locked BL is fine, as long as you have root) and also custom roms. We DO prefer users have an unsecure kernel, but that is not required. If you are running a custom rom, you should ensure that:
1.) root access is enabled for adb.
2.) pay attention to your device through the process to grant any superuser and/or adb rsa requests that pop up
Devices that cannot obtain normal root/bootloader unlock (e.g. Verizon HTC one) will still need to use the custom downloads specific to the device an mainver.

If I understand it correctly, your device needs to be unlocked using the htcdev unlock code. Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of having s-off since we're trying to hide the fact that the phone has been tampered with for warranty purposes? Also, s-off allows upgrading of firmware with new base. I haven't seen a corresponding firmware for 4.3 anywhere yet.

Actually, it depends where you are. The volume rocker of my previous one x cracked. Their first line of defence is warranty void because bootloader unlocked. I said it says may, not will, void warranty. Htc kept insisting void, but I got it replaced after threatening small claims court. So I do know what I am talking about through experience.

Exactly, but they make it very troublesome for you. Consumer law does not allow companies to give themselves blanket protection when it comes to warranties, but they will still try. How many people will go all the way?
