Hi guys, i just got this tablet from my brother. Currently on stock ICS. I had problem with switching between tabs in browser and also closing it by pressing small "x" button. the button is so small, I tried almost all browser that available on the play store. The best that i could get is Chrome, still need to press like 5,6 time to get it done. Any suggestion or alternatives browser?

Either you'll have to get used to it, or you can't have more than one tab open at a time. ^^
You could try a cheap stylus. Not as fashionable but they do work.

LoL, I know it sounds confusing. What I am looking for is some kind of task manager that lets me use it by pressing a hardware button (long-press prefered). Similar to CM7 (that exits the app when long pressing the back button, but it doesn't kill the process/service, only exits back to home screen). I specifically need this to terminate the browser apps as I found them to be eating a lot of RAM (stock, doplhin, opera, doesn't matter).
A similar method (by long pressing the back button) would also be prefered. Any of you know of such an app?
CyanogenMod and Zulu roms have an option to press and hold the back button to kill the app. That's probably the closest thing to what you're looking for.

What is the disadvantage if apps eat a lot of ram? Android already can manage it automaticly. If you need ram, it kills the apps.
Yeah, but I want it to kill the right apps, the browser that is.
I know its not exactly what you're looking for, but with Miren Browser, you can exit the app through the menu

Yep, doplhin has this as well. But it's not what I'm looking for.
There is something tho that just popped un in my mind, I was thinking of a some kind of task manager that would have a "shortcut" to kill apps. I could uncheck all the apps and check only the browser and some others that I'm interested in (gallery and maps also seem to be eating pretty much and I never even open the maps app). Then I could go in CM7 settings and activate that "shortcut" for one of the buttons, like long pressing the menu button for example.
Ok I have htc 3d and hitting home allows to see recent and switch to home. I am also new top android. When you click home nothing happens unless you are out of application.
Also oss the search button on bottom goods for anything? Out does not seem to work in. any app.
I am on the new update fun sprint.
Thanks for any help.
wow did not pay attention to new swype settings....
sprint galaxy tab 7 with 2.3.4
does it allow multitask, if so how? clicking home or holding while in other apps does nothing. i have to exit or back all the way out to get to other applications.

Works fine for me as it does on every other android device I have and have played with.. Hold home, the list of currently/recently running apps pops up, and also gives you the task manager button.. If that doesn't work for you on your Tab, you may have a config issue.
I gifted it out. Tried rooting phone and it messed up. reset phone and it is good. Thanks

So I just got the Note recently and so far I'm liking it (came from Iphone 4).... BUT, 1 thing that has GOT TO CHANGE!!! Is..... when I open stock browser and open tabs, if I close the browser and then go back to it my tabs are all gone!!! And it just shows home page...
Has anyone figured this out?? I haven't installed any task manager stuff. I need to get this fixed though. Is there a fix for this?
I've tried searching this forum and google but don't see much info. Most of the stuff I see says to uninstall task killers, but I didn't install anything just stock task manager for the Note.
I've tried different browsers also but none of them really seem to keep the tabs open, it is very annoying
Any ideas?
bump for friday!!!
This is more of a workaround.
Instead of exiting the browser with the back button, press the home button. When you go back to the browser (by long pressing the home button to access the running tasks) the tabs should still be there.
Probably best to have put this in the Q&A section
Thanks for the reply!! But this is what I'm doing... even that doesn't work. In fact, I don't use the back button too much, I mostly use the home button...
There is no fix for this? Can someone tell me the cause of it? Is it something to do with a Samsung task manager? Is there a new task manager I can install or seomthing I can tweak in the OS? Perhaps seomething in the browser config or task manager config?
I don't have this problem... especially with Dolphin Browser. Those bloody tabs persist after reboots. It is a pain in the arse to get rid of them, you have to kill them manually.
Any body else know a fix??
Maybe I'll try firefox see how that works. I did d/l dolphin but haven't tried yet
You can install ZDbox, it is an app that was developed by an Xda member. It has a task killer incorporated within the app where you can put the browser in the protected apps by long pressing and adding it. After you do this, the app will not be closed if you kill all other apps.
Let me know if it resolves the issue. (it is available for free in the market)
Why are you using stock browser anyway . It's crap . I never managed to download anything with it . And after " download " it can't parse it . Use OPERA MOBILE . ( NOT mini ) . You'll thank me later

Ok I tried ZDbox, however the browser doesnt even show up in the process list of ZDbox lol... It shows up in my task manager, but not in ZDbox.
I will just use a different browser... I see so many browsers, which is best? How does Opera compare with Firefox? I kinda like Maxthon also, but it isn't saving my tabs either
Download Opera. It's the fastest browser, as it uses hardware acceleration.
Its not witht stock browser. If you are opening too many apps and then press Home key, the Android system will put the browser to sleep but it keeps it in memory. If you launch another app at this point which asks for more RAM than there is available, Android will start exiting the apps that are residing in the memory. When that happens, the browser could also be force closed by the system. Dunno how to fix that since I am not a dev.
If you use other browsers, you wont have the GPU acceleration and hence smoothness, in my opinion.
Just my 2 cents.

The two of you should talk: his tabs don't stay and yours are hurting your ass
So how is everyone with the Note fixing or getting around this? I'm trying Opera now...
Well, after using the Opera browser... i gotta say I like it. EXCEPT it doesn't remember my tabs either!! It seems like none of the browsers are working right with tabs... unless i'm doing soemething wrong? Is there any way to remember tabs in opera mobile?
When I press the back button on Dolphin it ask if I want to close the browser or minimize it.
What would be nice is.... like Safari on iphone... if you kill it, it still opens up with all your tabs... or a desktop firefox, it always allows you to restore your previous session/tabs...
I HAVE to keep tabs open, instead of re-opening 5 pages/tabs evertime the browser just feels like forgetting them
Anybody know about the great Note browser mystery??
How long after you press home are you checking, if you leave it in sleep mode for some time, android will kill the high power consuming processes and that is why your tabs are not getting stored...
I think what you want is a browser which remembers your previous tabs and reload all of them whenever you open a browser.. i dont think stock or dolphin or opera has such an option, did you try the mobile version of firefox.. maybe it remebers tabs...
And to those people this is not about multitasking... it is just that he wants the browser to remember his tabs so that it can reload itself everytime a new instance opens...

YES!! thank you..thats exactly right! i've tried so many browsers so far and have yet to find one that does!! It seems so weird to me that none of these browsers have a session restore or tab restore option. let me try firefox... i haven't really tried it yet. BUT i just read firefox for andoird DOES have hardware acceleration... I'M ON IT! will report back
After using FF for a bit...I can report it is the same as other browsers There is no session restore and it closes my tabs also. When I launch it, it shows me my "previously closed tabs" but it won't let me restore them all......I have to click on each one to restore
So this is still a aproblem
I am using Xperia TX from past 2-3 months now.
I have been facing this problem for sometime. Whenever I go back to home from an app at times as soon as I press the home button , the icons take some time to load around 2-3 seconds which gets annoying sometimes.. This problem increases while using wifi or internet browser...
I have tried clearing dalvik cache but still the problem persists.
Music player also closes at times while using internet browser.. And some times the music player while playing music takes small pauses...
Would love some suggestions.

Probably means you've got quite a lot of background apps running and they're causing this issue. I've personally never come across this issue on my tx, but it was a regular occurrence when I had my arc s.

Even I am facing this problem recently. I also had an Arc s before tx. But this phone is a much better performer and has been really smooth. Free RAM is around 300mb , I do clear RAM and running apps are also not that much. Still cant figure out what could have gone wrong. I have rooted my phone and slight modifications have been made ( changed the on screen button theme ) but this issue has cropped up recently.
Depends on the app your running(those ram hungry), try opening a couple of tab pages in chrome and your launcher will surely reload if you go back to home screen. I'm a heavy user of chrome and this has been a normal thing already for me.

Ok let me try it out...
When i disable 'Merge tabs and apps' feature in Google Chrome, I find the animation between changing tabs very janky, and at least twice a day the entire device freezes for a few minutes. Even the power button stops working.
It does this on Android 5.1/LMY47D and LMY47I. Using a clean flash of the factory images, completely stock, unrooted.
Anyone else experiencing the same freezing issues in Google Chrome (even the Chrome Beta version does it) when changing tabs?
No out problems when switching here. I prefer the new style tho

Same here with stock and rooted N6. Highly annoying and I think it's because of Chrome. I tried Chrome beta two months ago and the same thing happened then and now few weeks ago when the actual Chrome updated, problems started with it too. It worked just fine with previous version without that "pulldown to refresh" update.
Only thing that helps is by pressing power button 10 sec and force reboot.
I've found if I press the power button, a minute or two later the screen will turn off. I can then launch the camera, immediately go to Recent Apps and swipe away the frozen Chrome app.
Hopefully there will be a fix soon.
Thanks everyone for your info. At least I know its not an issue with me
Also seeing this with brand new Nexus 6, LMY47M. Very frustrating. But I can't stand "Merged tabs and apps" --- makes it way to hard to find all my tabs!

I found an alternative tab switching method in chrome://flags
Enable Accessibility Tab Switcher.
This removes the animation when switching tabs and presents a basic list of tabs. Not perfect as it can be hard to know which tab is which if you have multiple tabs on the same website.
