My security questions for lock screen turned into weird stuffs - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I just restored my device with Titanium Backup and found a weird problem. When I set my lock screen there will be security questions to be selected, for example, favorite movies. However, the questions turned to be choices of kb, mb, gb, tb instead of normal questions. Anyone know how to fix?

[Q] Settings never save in many programs

Okay, bit of a weird one this. Several (and increasing numbers) of) programs never seem able to save any settings changes.
Every time they start, if they've been closed by the internal task manager, they'll show any initial splash screens and be using default settings.
It stated with jetvd, then Acontacts, zoom and even the internal bluetooth settings (loses paired devices and phone name).
Any ideas? Not sure if it's related, but the screen res seems screwy too. Zoom (custom widget designer) is all over the place, and launcher 7 sometimes displays icons too large for the screen when it starts up (variably so).
Currently running 9.6 darky rom, but happened with stock kernel too. Tried running permission fix from rom manager app, but nothing changed.
Getting rather irritating...

[Q] Changed Pixel density on GT-I9001, facing some issues.

Hello everyone!
My father owns a Galaxy S plus, but he was not able to see the small text in some of his apps, and it was not adjustable through the settings. Reading a guide on this website (cant remember the link, sorry), I was able to change the Pixel Density by editing a file called Build.Prop present in /system. The text became larger now.
You can see the 12th line, I changed it from 240 to 280: i.imgur.com/tw5wc.jpg
Now the first and really annoying issue is its phone pad: i.imgur.com/TZNhL.jpg
As you can see if you type a wrong number you will have to exit and open it again, no option to erase and also there is no option to call, you have to add it to contacts first and then you will be able to call them.
When you open contacts, everything is normal, why is this only in the phone pad?
The lock screen of the current OS (2.3.5) on that phone is different from that of 2.3.6. Now when you want to directly open messages or see missed calls, you know that you have to move a part to the empty space to complete the "puzzle" and it will open it. Now you will have to move it below that empty part to open but it is tricky.
When it comes to calculator, I solved the issue by installing a 3rd party program and completely removing the stock one. It had a similar issue to the phone pad. Anyway I backed up the stock one in case anything happens.
I guess that Samsung did not optimize them to work with these changes, do you think the same way?
Can you please help me solve this issue?

Dialer Problem solved
I solved the dialer problem by installing a 3rd party one, called as DW Contacts & Phone Dialer (Developer: DWP). It works very well with the dislay settings I changed. But using a 3rd party dialer can be a worry sometimes.

[Q] Icons disappear from Home Screen ! How to solve this?

My Galaxy Note is running Android 4.0.4. I am running the stock ROM. Not rooted.
After I just installed the latest Samsung patch DDLR9, whenever I switch off my phone and restart it, the Icons on my Homescreen disappear. These are those programs which I have saved on my SD Card.
Never happened before this. Is there is fix to this specific to the Galaxy Note?
no this is a bug in the new DDLR9 firmware and happens to the apps moved to sd. For now move all these apps to phone and it will work fine

Fast Boot option may be the culprit
This is actually a long-standing problem in Android OS, going back at least two years (donkey's years in this technology!)
Something about the interaction of the OS and an sdcard formated for holding apps creates odd behaviours.
Lots of complicated suggestions have been made, including reformatting sdcard, reinstalling ROMs, changing launchers (the one suggested here) and such.
None of these approaches seems really to solve the problem even in most cases.
Now a ROM bug is proclaimed the cause. Well, maybe... That could always be the case, but given all the problems all the others have had in so many different configurations, I wonder...
What seems to be working for me (at least for the last week or so) is the following very simple tweak.
CUT TO THE SOLUTION BELOW -- SEARCH FOR ////
Some (not all) of my apps moved to SD (all by Titanium Backup Pro) have begun to disappear and (sometimes) reappear without warning after I began to add and delete large Virtual Machines created in QEMU from my 16GB SanDisc class 10 microSD card on my HTC Droid Incredible running rooted stock Verizon Android Froyo 2.2.3. I know this thread is far from my phone's "home base", but from what I can tell this problem with disappearing apps located on an sdcard is NOT determined by hardware or even Android version.
I also happen to use LauncherPro by Federico Carnales instead of the built-in HTC Sense launcher. I noted elsewhere on XDA that a user had suggested that because at least some (maybe all) launchers start before the SD Card that this may be a problem, especially if changes are made to the sdcard that the launcher did not perform, or was not active during their performance by other apps such as Titanium Backup. That fits my situation, because I unmounted the SD, physically removed it to a PC, and added/deleted large VM files to save (lots) of time. No problems of this sort before I did this, so there must be some connection.
I noted that other users have tried reformatting SD, substituting different brands of SD, using newer/older SD etc. None of these reliably helped. So I skipped these options.
//// The (simple!) solution I tried that SEEMS to work (only time will tell!) is buried in the main Android Settings (accessed from the Menu button while in Home screen). Under "Applications" there is a setting "Fast Boot" that I checked long ago and forgot about (it seemed like a good thing to do at the time). The text warns "Turn off to use some Market apps" (that shows the age of my 2-yr old used phone and Android OS -- ohmygosh!-- because it refers to Market rather than Google Play Store!) Anyway, I unchecked the option and rebooted the phone.
Yes, it took a bit longer to boot (maybe a whole minute!), but after waiting about another minute ALL my home screen apps had normal icons and loaded properly. Titanium Backup Pro batch scenarios confirmed there were no apps in a forced uninstalled state (i.e. I had not done the deed, the system somehow had done it or at least rendered the apps "invisible" to Titanium, which decided they needed reinstallation).
The only odd behaviour was that auto brightness was turned off after I unchecked Fast Boot and rebooted. Going into Android Settings > Display and rechecking "auto brightness" took care of that. No other oddities or strange behaviours thus far (but it has only been about an hour).
I will report anything further on this thread only (Samsung Fascinate > Fascinate Q&A > What just happend? apps on sdcard) if anything else requires reporting. Silence implies success!
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873670
(I am copying this post to other relevant threads, but will not post anything further elsewhere -- only there. This is a bit arbitrary (especially now that the chosen thread no longer is the most recent active one on this topic), but I hope this approach pleases the XDA sysops/admins)

[Q] Things disappearing at random?

Bought a Mini 2 yesterday. Rooted, used Titanium Backup to restore my apps and settings from my One XL, and used HTC Transfer to get text messages, contacts, etc. All seemed good...until I tried to set up ringtones. The phone ringtone was fine, as it would allow me to browse for any audio file I wanted, but when selecting the ringtone for notifications, Facebook, etc I just got a blank list. There was absolutely nothing there. After fiddling for a bit, I managed to get some custom audio to show up, but still none of the default stuff and even then files were wandering in and out of visibility.
No big deal, as I eventually got everything set up right. I installed AdFree, which recommended rebooting. So I did. And it reset a bunch of my settings, including the ringtones I'd spent all last night setting up, and deleted the text I got this morning (all other texts, which were originally from my previous handset, were untouched). So I went to set up the ringtones again, only to find that all the default ringtones were readily available, as were my custom ones, all in the one list. But I still had ads, so AdFree was apparently not doing anything.
I don't recall exactly what I did after that, but I was reading through the manual and fiddling with a few things, and when it got to the bit about sliding right or left from the lock screen to get to certain home pages, I went to try it...and it demanded I swipe up, refusing to work if I did anything else. And I had no lock screen shortcuts.
I've also lost the default HTC wallpapers; when selecting that option I just get a blank screen.
What on earth is going on?
I opened AdFree and updated, and the ads disappeared. Rebooted the phone, and they came back. And now I can't get rid of them at all.
I've also lost the ability to add lock screen widgets. The only thing I can do from the lock screen is swipe up, either from the padlock icon to unlock the phone at the screen at which it was locked, or from just below the padlock to open a Google search.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Yeah...hard reset, and dont install AdFree app. it seems its causing all the problems. If you don't like ads, use a firewall instead.
I personally recommend and use Data Defender. But there are others.
PS:Also if the app requires internet, live with the adds and support the developer.
Good Luck
How will the hard reset affect the root?
What does data defender do, just prevent apps connecting to the internet? I find most of the in-app ads less intrusive than the web browser ones. Snopes in particular throws up a full-screen pop-up on every page, which is just obnoxious.
ETA: Actually, it's not AdFree that's causing issues (or at least it's not just AdFree), as the default ringtones/notifications/alarms were inaccessible before I installed it. It was only after installing it that they came back.
Hard reset shouldn't unroot your phone
If you prevent apps from accessing internet, there won't be any ads.

Seems to mostly be working, but I've lost the ability to use custom notifications for Messages, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and twicca. If I use ES File Explorer to choose a file, I get a 'wrong filetype' error, despite the fact that the audio is in the same format as the default notification audio (FLAC). If I choose Media Storage, it just shows the default sounds with none of my custom sounds. Previously, I'd somehow managed to get my custom sounds to show up in that list.
EDIT: Figured it out. Had to move/copy the files into the 'notifications' folder on the SD card. Don't recall having done that previously, so I have no idea how I'd got it working before, but it seems like it's all good now.

questions on N

I'm on N... Things...
1) is the downgrade resolution feature still here? I can't find it
2) does the "close apps when power button is pressed" do anything different than a regular task killer? Is this useful?
3) how do you control whether or not a notification peeks?
4) i seem to be having data sync only every few minutes for background apps (whatsapp, hangouts). im not in any sort of power saving mode and ive made sure those apps dont close behind the scenes. ideas?
Anyone? These notifications are driving me nuts.
Hello, sorry you didn't get any replys on here, last time i was in here i made a post and nobody replied to me, so i deleted my account and ended up coming back because i too wanna update to Android N which you already have. The firmware is still Beta stage so it's normal that you see lota of bugs and such.
