[Q] Ringtone for specific prefix - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have the One for a week now and I am on Android for a week now.
Since it is very customizable, I am wondering if anyone knows if there is an app or setting that allows to asign a certain ringtone to a specific prefix.
So when a number with a prefix like +49 211 XXXXXXX is calling, this certain ringtone is chosen instead of the standard ringtone...
Thanks in advance!

You can choose different ringtones in your contact list.
so click on a name and change ringtone, thats how it works for me.

Thank you. I know this already.
What I would need is unreleaded to a specific contact but more to a specific place.
In my case, the place I work at. Since I get calls from anywhere in my work place, I cannot have all these numbers (> 1000) and I do not want to...
But since my work place has a specific prefix, it would be nice being able to use this one to assign a certain ringtone.

Tasker can probably be setup to do that.

Rename or delete categories for contacts

Hi,
Any way to rename or delete the categories???
Any expert to advise please.
Good day, Thanks
Additional question: is there a way to assign a ringtone to a category?
When you remove all contacts from a category that's not one of the four built in ones, it disappears. There is no way to rename but an easy way to change the name is to assign one contact to a new one then re-assign all the others to it.

Well, I sync with my Outlook and I did some mass-editing in Outlook and made some new categories and such. Sync'd perfectly with my Kaiser.

Contact Specific Ringtones

Is there any way how to assign specific ringtones to some of mine contacts? Even my old Motorola had this feature very useful specificaly for the people who need to be accesible by some of their contacts all the time, but can call back most of the callers later.

You can assign ringtones to contacts stored in the phone. You cannot assign them to contacts on the SIM.

How will you do that? I have no such option in menu in Contacts?
after the contact is saved, you will see the option to set a ringtone for them under their mobile phone number when editing the contact form.

Go into contacts, highlight the name, click on Menu > Edit. If the contact is stored on the phone and not on the sim, you should see "Ring tone:" under "Mobile Tel:"
Got it it.
Sorry it was stupid question, but I overlooked it always when I was checking settings. Sometimes we just need somebody to open our eyes.
Thank you.

It's no big thing. We all miss stuff sometimes.
Look at vipRingtone
I think this is what you are looking for located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328560
You could try Ringo, it allows you to use mp3s and assign to individuals and your outlook group categories. You can do the same with SMS notifications.
to be honest, i'm really surprised no user flamed you for this question. it is really too basic, you can find the answer in the user manual that came with your phone. but as someone said, everybody overlooks things sometimes. cheers!

I took joy in the fact that I haven't seen anyone ask this before. That made it worth answering without any snarkiness.
I must say I'm a little disappointed. When I say the subject of this post, and that jarek91 was the last poster, I was expecting to read some juicy trash.
But I must agree with jarek91 that I actually haven't seen this question floating around in quite a while.
OK guys, so I found that my original question was not so stupid after all. Of course I overlooked edit setting in contacts, but as I now controled all contacts transfered from the old phone, it seems like they all have already assigned the proper specific ringtone. However, whatever I do (and I tried all settings on phone for changing ringtone from none, through generic to specific) all incoming calls still have only one ringtone.
What now?
I am using 1.83.631.4 (radio 1.27.15.32) Rogers Rom (only ROM with public caller ID)
From what I remember that is the exact reason I looked around for something. As I said earlier try Ringo!

I tried, and it realy works. Thank you.
What I want is a "unknown caller" specific ringtone. AFAIK this cannot be done without additional software. Can someone please prove me wrong on this. Essentially I need a discrete call tone for no caller ID.

Any way to set a custom text message tone for a contact?

I searched the forum but could not find any information. I wanted to find out if there is any way to make a custom text message tone for a contact, similar to making a custom ringtone. Any suggestions? Thanks.
http://ringomo.com/
or try phonealarm
Thanks for the replies. Are there any "simple" apps that solely change the text tone for a contact rather than "complicated" apps like those.
ringo is pretty simple to use, you just pick a sound and then pick a contact, what part are you having trouble with?
I don't believe there is a way to integrate this into the current contacts list if that is what you are looking for.

I personally use Mortring
It's freeware & can be found here.

About as "simple" as you can get. Works great & takes up next to nothing memory/ram.

Ok, I think I got two questions out of that test. J/K
1. Edit: Sorry about that. I didn't read properly.
2. To assign notification sounds. Start>Settings>Personal>Sounds&Notifications>Notifications. Open the Event: drop down, find the event, Open the Ring tone: select the sound, turn on Play sound, finished.
Notification sounds reside in the \Windows\ root folder of the device. I like to put ring tones into the \Windows\Rings\ folder. They work in other folders but I find the Rings folder neater than the root for example and thats what the Rings folder is meant for anyway.
Hope that works for you.
U cant assign different ringtones for text messages to contacts. For that u will probably need some 3rd party application.
hey all~
hurm, okay well if i can't then does anyone know of any 3rd party app that can do it? i know pcm can NOT do it for text's (but they can for calls) . . .
thanks for the help guys and gals
~j
try mortring. you can personalize rings for calls and sms according to individual or category.
although it's been slightly buggy since i upgraded to 6.1, it still does the job well enough.
somynex~
thanks ill google it right now
~j
Try photo contacts. You can assign text tones to individuals on it
hey all~
so igrabed mortringand installedit buthad no luck with it working :-( so i guess ill look into that other suggested program....
like i said it's not a big deal, just something i would likes (it shouldn't surprise anyone as my screen name should imply i'm a linux guy [ubuntu is a linux distro.] and i love everythiing tweaked as much as possible lol)
~j
sorry to hear that mortring didn't work. in WM6 and before it seems to intercept the call and then change the ring.
But in WM6.1 it seems to have to change the ringtone for each contact/category according to the ring i set it to, which can take a long time. the first time after i set the rings, thought my phone froze up. but actually it was just taking its time setting the rings for each contact (and takes a long time when one has a lot of contacts/categories).
anyway after the first couple days of freezes, it seems to work fine now and hasn't froze up on me since.
somynex~
maybe i'll give it another go then....i tried with my brothers contact info. changed his txt tone then had him txt me....maybe i needed to let it sit for longer to 'finish the change' . . .
thanks for the extra info

No problem mate.
Here's a post of mine from almost 4 years ago that you can use with Mortring (free) to make custom notifications for your contacts.
Okay I figured out how to create a custom notification/ringer.
1: go to http://public.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
And type in what you'd like for the notification or ring to say and then
download it after picking a voice. (keep in mind sometimes you have to purposely
misspell certain word to get them to be pronounced correctly. For example for DJ

3: move that .wav file to your devices /windows directory.
4: go to start - settings - sounds & notifications - notifications (select the
event you'd like to change the ring for and select the respectable audio file).
If using Mortring in step 4 assign that .wav for your contact(s).
dj~
wow thanks, from 4 years ago...kewl that u looked it up fo rme i appreciate it and will be off to create
~j
Of course.. then there's always Electricpocket Ringo. It lets u assign ringtones and sms tones individually, or to groups. The best I've used so far.

Free? I tried Ringo over a year ago and it slowed down my phone a lot.
hey all~
i got mortRing working! seems pretty good, works for sure. one thing though...it seems that everytime i get a text from someone whos got a personalized tone, that wmp opens to try to play the wav file (and go figure, wav=windows audio video...wmp says it can't play wavs lol)
i think i may have fixedn it with a registry tweak, have to wait till someone with a custom tone texts me back lol
~j
hey all~
ok so this question is probably for those who have or have used mortRing....everytime a custom notification comes my media player opens :s
i went in the registry and undid the default wmp handling of wav files (as the ringtones...err text tones lol that mortRing recognizes are wav's) but then it opened a dialouge saying it didn't know how to handle the wav file (nvm it played lol) ii changed the default to mort player but it still opens whenever one of the custom contacts text me....at least mort closes quicker then wmp...but still would be nice to get it to stop...
so any ideas? a registry hack (i'm comforatable doing that, even though im a linux guy i work on peoples win-slows computers....a LOT) anything?
thanks
~j
I have an older version of Mortring that doesn't have that problem.
DJ~
do you happen to know what version number you have? thanks

[Q] Where is this ringtone file located?

Recorded file of the ringtone I asked is attached.
It's in Messaging / Gmail / Email -Settings-Notification settings-Select ringtone-scroll up2top
u will probably see a "Default Ringtone". -- which is not listed in system settings-sounds-notifications.
A friend of mine asked me to send this ringtone to him, but rookie like me cannot find where the ringtone file actually is. ..... already tried /system/media/
well it may be stupid but can someone help me find it?
Seems that both froyo & gb roms contain this ringtone. Searched several pages for it but still got no answer.
From your home screen:
Press the Menu Button
Select Settings
Select Sound
Select Notification Ringtone
This is your Default Notification Sound. If you want your messages to make a different sound than the default notification that it uses for everything else (email, updates, etc.) you would change it in the menu you listed. The "Default Ringtone" is simply a pointer.
Thanks for reply but afraid it's not what I need. I know I can change it to everything else .
My point is to get this exact ringtone file --which sounds a little boring . /_\

Dude you are completely missing the question.
OP
I just looked in /system/media/sounds/ringtones
And notifications, I didn't find it either, but I don't have a "default ringtone" option at the top either...
But why do you need to extract it? You have the sound right there in your first post? Just convert it to .ogg format and drop it in your friend's phone where it should go...

that's a recorded one not a lossless one as he requests..
sounds silly but I also like to find out.
I tried Serendipity_6.4 & continuum 5.41 they both have this default ringtone (difference is S has it as phone Ringtones, C has it as notification sound.
).
There are some posts here about people had set to another ringtone but sometime still heard this default one ringing , in lately builds of roms.
I notice the /system/build.prop does specify ro.config.ringtone and ro.config.notification_sound. Perhaps this would be the file name you're looking for.

Here is another twist for you. On Cog 4.4.2 my default notification is NOTHING. It doesn't make any sound at all.
All I can say at this point is to play every notification/ringtone file on your phone and see if you can find it.
