[Q] Rooting LG Optimus Black P970 Android 2.2.2 (Froyo) V10a - LG Optimus Black

Hello xda developers,
Phone Details:
Model: LG-P970g
Kernel version: 2.6.32
Software version: LG-P970g-V10a
Yes I'm a n00b but I'm not completely helpless...
The Video (I can't post links yet:crying:
www[dot]youtube[dot]com/watch?v=dJIV8F2SwTo
After watching the beginning of this he makes it seem like you must update to android 2.3.4 first. Which is the reason I ask this question in the first place, because LG Electronics no longer supports the update to android 2.3.4 with the LGMobile Support Tool for the P970. I called tech support last week and it's definitely not supported...:crying:
However since we are flashing the phone with the patched version of V20I_00.kdz as a .bin and .fls file doesn't that mean we are flashing the entire ROM to the phone and not just patching the current version of the ROM installed? Thus updating the phones firmware in the process anyway?
I know there are others out there with this question and nothing in the forum has identified this for me I've been looking for the answer for a solid week now, I wish to address this question before proceeding to prevent bricking my phone because I do need it.
Hope to chat soon!
-Lilly C.

First question should be what do you want in the end?
Just want it rooted, install CWM and then put CM10.1 on it? Then keep 2.2.2, root that, get ROM Manager from Google Play Store, let the ROM Manager install CWM, download CM10.1 (or CM10, CM7, ...).
Want IZS on it? Then do as Huexxx told in his threat. That is closed because he stopped development at least for some time but I think it's still the best for the OB. Not as modern as CM10.1 or even CM10 but a lot more stable and much less battery consuming.
Or ... ?

I think you didn't understand my question. To install CWM you have to root the device first. I know rom manager supports CWM for The P970. Gingerbreak didn't work. I'm asking if rooting by the method in the video works even if you have 2.2.2 installed. If not is there a method for Android 2.2.2 on the p970?
Sent from my LG-P970g using xda app-developers app

Hi,
Method 1 - FW V10A / B
1.Download the latest GingerBreak
2.Allowed non Market Place apps (settings > apps > unknown sources)
3.USB debugging ON (settings > apps > dev > USB debugging)
4.A SDC must be present and mounted
5.Launch Polaris Office to explore your SDC, then touch the apk file•in the case you don't have a file explorer, install ES File Explorer or Solid Explorer (Apps)
6.Phone will reboot on sucess. Cool, it's rooted ! (now you can uninstall GingerBreak)
Loading can take several minutes. If after 10 minutes at most nothing happens, GingerBreak doesn't work for you....
Method 2 - Froyo (V1XX)
•Required : installed USB drivers
1.Enable USB Debugging (settings > apps > development)
2.Plug the phone, launch BlackJack and follow instructions•Allow 127.0.0.1 connection if prompted by AVs / Firewalls. Read BlackJack's intro for more details.
Method 3 - Gingerbread (V2XX)
Caution, this method is a full flash ! EVERYTHING on the internal memoy will be lost !
Required : Installed USB drivers, SmartFlash, patched FW binaries V20S (EU) (*.fls and *.bin) and the Superuser+(ESE) archieve
Copy Superuser+.zip in your SDC
Follow the PDF guide procedure (UPK)
Phone will reboot into Recovery, do a wipe / reset
Now select "install zip from sdcard" > "choose zip from sdcard" and select Superuser+.zip (will push AnReboot + ES Explorer)
Go back on main menu and validate on "reboot system now". System is now permanently rooted.
original thread for Tools : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771
* in theory, you can convert v10a .kdz in patched CWM with LG-P970 ROM COVERTER 2.1 for flash with SmartFlashTools. then flash superuser.zip in CWM recovery.
* try with unlockroot also...

Keep in mind that unlockroot only gives you root access (if it works with your current rom), it does not install or prepare your current rom to install recovery..

I understand that it does not install CWM recovery. I am aware that Rom Manager now supports CWM Flashing I think for the P970.
So what I'm understanding thus far is that if I want to root and patch the current firmware via Smart Flash I must use the same version of firmware.
Want to upgrade to 2.3.4 but it's not supported.
Is this thread safe to do the update to 2.3.4 if I flash the .kdz original firmware first?

Thank you so much for the replies I know others are more than likely stuck here as well.
I would like CWM so I would really like to eventually follow the video tutorial.

no, you can upgrade or downgrade with SmartFlash Tool .
look here for convert kdz and inject cwm : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692191
you can convert Froyo and gingerbread stock rom on patched CWM rom with this tool.
/!\ ICS have bootloader locked you can't inject cwm with LG-P970 ROM COVERTER
flash with SmartFlash Tool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
after when you have cwm recovery, flash superuser.zip for root
all stock rom .kdz : http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?mod=Lg+Optimus+Black&paese=Tutti&id_mod=1

Does the ROM conversion convert the whole ROM when patching with CWM to the bin and fls files?
Essentially it would be a firmware update and root all wrapped up into one process.
I'm looking to do this soon and you are the best person to ask because there has been some speculation that you can only flash with the same firmware currently installed on your device.
Sincerely,

Hello
Yes, you can do it directly, whole rom is converted and patching with cwm.
No need to flash same rom that you have.
But don't do it with v30 (ics) because it causes security error.
To root v30 you can use unlockroot.
In this case you can install cwm from rom manager.
Regards.

I talked to the developer of the LG ROM converter and he confirmed that upgrading the firmware and rooting this in all one process should not be an issue as long as it's not v30 (ics) as it causes an error. I'm not too excited about ICS yet I'm going to stick with gingerbread then with CWM maybe install a good lightweight ROM and Kernel for Over Clocking, I hear this device gets a good stable 1.3ghz!

Who ever told you that, shot him.
OC is often not stable and if you go so high as 1.3 you are lucky if it works at all.

I first bricked the fone and a "Security Error" was showing...
The online solution that i found was to enter "s/w update" and flash a ROM using SmartFlash Tool
That happened...i mean the flash happened but the SECURITY ERROR persisted
But after flashing a few times i cant even enter the "s/w update" anymore
Can anyone help??
Could this be because my battery is out of charge?????

remove battery, wait few minutes, plug usb & vol +, try to change port usb not a usb 3.0, flash with SFT PRE IZS with bootloader unlocked => Preinstallation for IZS ROM (SmartFlash): includes Smartflash and latest LG USB drivers on Huexxx Blog =>

I think that the proxyqV4 kernel will be suitable for use with Surpressed ROM.
These both are supported for the P970 model.
A lightweight ROM with a stable over and underclock? any news on this? See link below someone does state they get a stable 1.3Ghz OC with it.

I had issues with Google PlayStore causing the device to reboot, the following solved that issue and may or may not solve your security issue as well.
1. Flash a V20 using smart flash (use LG Rom Converter to get bin and fls files). Patch with CWM and I can confirm that CWM Touch does work as it's working on mine now.
2. When phone reboots into CWM insert SD Card while device is on (you had to take the battery SIM and SD out when S/W updating) then Install superuser.zip
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe cache
5. Wipe dalvik cache
6. Wipe batt stats
7. Insert SIM
8. Insert Battery
9. Reboot
10. Unplug device
NOTE:
**The SIM card said it was not there the first boot but just after turning airplane mode on and off it worked just fine
**The battery may read the wrong level for a short period of time but this will go away shortly don't worry!

I don't see anything in this particular thread stating that you get a stable overclock with the P970. The only thing I see is speculation if the access point name server settings work or not and some general stability issues with crashing apps. Unless I read the whole thread wrong. Have you overclocked a P970 before?
lillychalaudio.com

i 'have used this rom since few month @1.3 ghz undervolted -3 , no bugs, no FC, no SOD, before same frequency with Zeus 6.04.i'am able to hit 1350 with my OB.

That sounds great however I'm looking for a really light weight ROM I believe surpressed ROM is the best in this regard for less boat ware and efficiently. I'll look into Zeus ROM. Are you overclocking using set CPU? What kernel are you using to achieve the OC? Thanks again.
lillychalaudio.com

All is inside Zeus rom, Huexxx v2.6 light-westwood kernel , overclock and undervolt by Zeus tweaker app.

[REF][GUIDE]Another Way to Successfully Flash AOSP/AOKP/CM9 ICS Roms from Gingerbread

Until now we all had to use LP1 Repack as a stepping-stone between Gingerbread and custom ICS Roms.
However, thanks to thechints, we have found an easier way to get to a fully rooted AOSP/AOKP/CM ICS from Gingerbread.
The following procedure was tested by thechints, vviz, abhisahara, and moi, and it works.
It was tested on Stunner and CM9, but could work for any ICS Rom that currently has "flash LP1 Repack" as one of the steps in its flashing instructions.
I emphasize the word 'could'. Give it a try and tell us what happened. The suggested method is safe insofar as it won't brick your device. You have a safe way back to GB via nAndroid backup or PC Odin if it fails.
The only tool that you need for the following procedure to work is AbyssNote 4.2 Kernel --> props to angelom and Chris X.
Get AbyssNote 4.2 kernel HERE.
Do not use earlier AbyssNote Kernel versions for the following procedure.
So, how to do it?
When on any rooted GB Rom:
First and foremost
Double- and triple-check if you have proper GB root!
Do not put faith in the fact that your Titanium Backup or some other root app works.
Do not use various root checkers from the Market.
Do that by trying to paste a file in /system folder -that's the only way for you to really know.
If you can do the pasting, you have root. If not, this thread is not for you.
I got several PMs from users who managed to achieve soft-bricks while still on GB. They tried to
flash AbyssNote kernel and got stuck. Do not let that happen to you.
After that:
1. download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel and place it on your internal/external SD Card
Also download the ICS Rom you want to install and put it on your SD card.
2. reboot to CWMR (press and hold volume up + home + power button) and do a backup of your current system
3. after your backup is done, stay in Recovery
4. go to install a zip from SD card --> select AbyssNote 4.2 zip and flash it
5. go back to CWMR's root menu --> advanced --> reboot recovery
6. you'll find yourself in AbyssNote's Touch Recovery (select options by tapping them, not by using the volume rocker and home button)
7. factory reset --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik
9. flash the ICS Rom of your choice
10. reboot and let the Rom settle for a couple of minutes
Now comes the important part...check if you have root.
Start any Explorer with root permissions (Root Explorer, Es Explorer, X Explorer etc.).
Copy any file (a picture, txt file, MP3, whatever).
Navigate to /system folder
Change the /system folder's permissions to R/W.
Paste the file you have copied into /system.
If the pasting goes through OK, you're fully rooted.
Delete the file you've just pasted and set /system as R/O again
And that's it. Enjoy your rooted ICS Rom.
Once again, massive thanks to thechints, abhisahara, vviz and ubiquitous Dr. Ketan.
What to do if this procedure doesn't work, i.e. you don't get full ICS root
As we all know, our Notes are quirky devices. What works for most doesn't necessarily have to
work for your phone. So, if you fail to get full root:
Option 1. You will still have 90% functional ICS on your Note. Your phone will do all the usual stuff
normally. You'll probably even be able to use root apps, like Titanium. However, bear in mind that
you are stuck in the Rom you have just flashed - there is no going anywhere because your CWMR
doesn't have proper root privileges to flash things - DO NOT USE CWMR.
What you won't be able to do on your Note is
- apply themes and mods (because that involves flashing stuff through CWMR with no proper root)
- change DPI settings on your Note (you won't be able to switch to tablet mode, for instance)
Everything else should work properly. If you can live with that for a couple of weeks until the
official ICS arrives, then fine. Relax and enjoy your Rom.
Option 2. If you can't stand the thought that you don't have full root permissions then
- you can try to reboot to CWMR, flash AbyssNote 4.2 again, and try to run a GB restore.
This doesn't have high chances of success, but all is not lost even if it fails. Then
- you can use PC Odin to flash pre-rooted KJ1 stock Rom as explained by Dr. Ketan.
dr.ketan said:
When No Any other method works to Root your device, use this

Note that, this will downgrade your ROM to KJ1, after that you can update it.

http://www.mediafire.com/?kkvdsf5vh8zipzi

- Tool to join them, run the following file and locate the .001 file.
http://www.mediafire.com/?btrusgmd1v2d72q
- Make sure your SGN is NOT connected to your computer
- Reboot your SGN into "download mode" (Vol Down + Home + Power)
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select the "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar" file
- Connect the SGN to your computer
- Make sure "repartition" is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot TWICE
- Done.
Now that you have a rooted GB stock Rom, Install Mobile Odin Pro n update your device to any new Rom with Mobile Odin

After that you can flash whatever you like from its CWMR or use Mobile Odin to upgrade.

So we don't need to flash cf repack through mobile Odin or PC odin anymore and just flash 1st Abyte kernel, then 2nd flash any rooted & custom ics roms? Is it correct? What is your recommended ics custom rom would u suggest?

If Neo's kernel root sticks properly, one should be able to flash an ICS Rom straight from GB, just like you would flash a GB rom from another GB rom. No need for Abyss, Repack etc.

not sure what CSC stands for but it happens to us all, Dont worry about it, Its a good thing that it was applied successfully

All went well (or so I thought) but I have 2 problems:-
I don't think I'm properly or fully rooted. After following the above steps, I installed Mobile Odin Pro (v2.45) and attempted to flash CF-Root-SGN_XX_XEU_LQ2-v5.6-CWM5.zip. I extracted the tar file, placed it on the external SD card and ran it using Mobile Odin Pro. However, upon rebooting, I see that my baseband, kernel version, build no. etc. are still showing exactly the same info in the 'About phone' section under Settings, ie.
Android Version
4.0.3
Baseband Version
N70000XXLPT
Kernel Version
3.0.15-N7000XXLQ2-CL605927
[email protected] #3
Build Number
IML74K.XXLQ2
Is this normal or have I missed an important step? I saw on another thread that perhaps I should have extracted both the tar and zimage files from the CFRoot zip, and then flashed? If so, could someone kindly tell me exactly what to do. For info, SU seems to have installed ok and has granted the necessary permissions to CWM and Mobile Odin Pro as root apps but I can't get into or use either app. What am I missing or doing wrong?
After rebooting, I can no longer use Mobile Odin Pro so cannot attempt a proper flash of whatever kernel I should be using. I can mostly now not get past the 'Loading...Checking SuperUser support...' splash screen. During this period, I see a pop-up which confirms the app has been 'granted SuperUser permissions for an interactive shell'; this pop-up usually appears several times during this loading period. Very occassionally, it gets past the Loading screen but then stays for an equally lengthy time at the next 'Loading...Detecting device model...' screen. If it gets past that, it then fails to detect any device model so I cannot use the app. What am I doing wrong? I've tried rebooting several times - no joy. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app - again, no joy.
If anyone can help me out of my rooting misery, I'd be really grateful.
One more thing - I'm not completely clear how I revert to/reinstall a stock ICS ROM once I am properly rooted or from where the phone is now? Can someone please just clarify this for me.
Apologies for the long post - just wanted to give as much information as possible.
Many thanks to all who can help
im not so sure but when you installed cwm and buzybox you did so to flash a custom rom
if you flash a custom rom you will keep the phone root and so on (supersu ecc...)
else you loose partially the root and you need to reflash the apps you lost on rebbot
so choose good cutom ics and go for it
you might try cssie xlite....180 mega
or Rocket Rom 7 700 mg
both work well
p.s. never full wipe or factory reset on ics cfroot kernell....
just do t with abyss kernel 4.2 if you need it and read about eemmmc bug crack
p.s.2 look for drkeatan posts and chasmodo....they made good walkthrough pro

im not so sure but when you installed cwm and buzybox you did so to flash a custom rom
if you flash a custom rom you will keep the phone root and so on (supersu ecc...)
else you loose partially the root and you need to reflash the apps you lost on rebbot
so choose good cutom ics and go for it
you might try cssie xlite....180 mega
or Rocket Rom 7 700 mg
both work well

Thanks for the reply. I only rooted in order to use certain root apps (Root Explorer, Titanium Backup etc) and was under the impression that the CF-Root-SGN_XX_XEU_LQ2-v5.6-CWM5.zip was basically a slightly modified stock ICS ROM with CWM included..?

The way I've always rooted is to run the adb script on a gb from, can be found in dr K's post. You need to be rooted before you can flash cwm kernel, 2 separate processes (although combined in some scripts.
There is also a thread somewhere with pre-rooted stock roms, so you could flash one of those as normal with PC Odin and then flash cwm kernel. Might be easier.

Wht i understand is you want to flash a custom ICS rom on your note.
First of all..
Get root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Stick with the instructions.
After doing this you will have root+cwm installed on your lovely note.
Now download Abyss 4.2 from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
Now download custom ics rom from android development section and put it in your phone sd card or external card.
Reboot into recovery.
Flash abyss 4.2
Go to advanced and reboot recovery.
Now you have abyss redpill recovery or touch cwm.
Do all 3 wipes. Cache, Dalvik and data.
Flash rom
Reboot system

Criskelo ICS v9 trouble
Hi,
I installed criskelo v9 on my phone just now..and titanium backup doesnt work..it says i do not have root permissions
now all my apps are on it and the phone is pretty pointless without it..
I tried installing abyssnote and franco kernel just to see if it works but the update gets stuck at "installing packages" and then reboots to system to the earlier settings..
the cwm i have right now is also not the touch version and my kernel is cf-root so i do not know if i should be reflashing criskelo directly on this to check for any difference..
PLease tell me what i need to do..I am lost and could not find anything after an hour of googling

Then check root permissions with root explorer. Don't try to flash kernels and wipes without the instructions as this will brick your device. Just stay calm and post here. I ll try to help ya as i could.

I followed the instructions to the T.. Root permissions didnt happen..Here's what i did..
1. Downloaded CWM and busybox and placed them where he said
2. Booted into recovery and installed CWM
After this the UI didnt change to the touch UI as he indicated but was still the button UI
3. ANyway went ahead and installed busybox from the zip
Here the progress was stuck at "unmounting system" till the phone reboot itself to the system..And i still dont have root permissions as per titanium..
Where did i go wrong?

Hi, what i really want is root permission so i can use criskelo as my ROM..I was using gb (checkrom v6 with abyss) till now and thought of upgrading to ICS...if i get root permissions i can restore my apps using titanium and my problem wil be solved..titanium is currently saying i dont have root permissions and not restoring my apps...
Of course i will want to change kernels too to mix and match my requirements with battery life later on...
If your desire is to just get rooted, then download the Abysskernel touch zip file* : http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel/AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.zip
Saved it in your external SD card and install it using Recovery Mode
After that, your phone should restart and check after if you have SU(Superuser) and CWM installed. If you do have it.. Rest assured your phone is already rooted.

Thats where the problem is..i have tried installing that file multiple times..it gets stuck at "installing update" and reboots into the system..
Within the phone i already have CWM (as the app) in my phone but it says it cannot work coz i need cf-root v5 or newer for it to work...can i use the LRG file as given in this forum to change the kernel?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
file name : CF-Root-SGN_XX_DBT_LRG-v5.6-CWM5 (i had chosen the LRG modem while installing criskelo v9)
Are there different kernels for ICS and GB and maybe im trying the wrong file?
Also right now all i want is the root..but i also wanna be able to rollback to gb later and try other roms as per my convenience if i dont like criskelo..so any guidance keeping that in mind for the future will b much appreciated
Thanks..

What is your current ROM now? stock DXLRG? if it is, yes you can flash that kernel on your link (using mobile odin pro). Try to check back after thru CWM if it still gives you the same message or not.
Yes, there are different kernels solely for ICS only and also solely for GB alone. Don't make a mistake in mixing a GB kernel to your ICS Rom or else your phone gets fried.

I am right now on Criskelo ICS v9..
The exact problem on my phone (id mentioned earlier too) is that its like its semi-rooted..things like cpuspy etc work..but titanium backup and moble odin dont..my main motive is to have titanium working so i can use the phone normally..
Now i see that criskelo has just launched v10.1 of the same ROM which has solved the semiroot+wifi issue..download is in progress and It wud be great to know how i can move on to that now..
Abyssnote kernel is not installing (stuck at "installing update" ) and as per my knowledge the phone isnt rooted (coz titanium backup and mobile odin dont work)..
Can i rollback to prerooted gb (i have this file: Rooted_Stock_Odex_N7000DDLB2 - nonwipe gb ROM) via PC odin to initiate the whole process again under present circumstances?
Whole process here meaning *prerooted gb+abyssnote kernel+criskelo v10.1 install*..
PS - i did all wipes while installing the present ROM (if it matters)..
Yes, you have what we call it here as a semi rooted phone. Not getting all the permissions to access system files inside. It's a good thing though that Criskelo has a new version to his ROM and that should be appropriate in installing it.
Can you rollback to pre rooted GB? Yes you can. Just pick the appropriate GB ROM. And oh by the way bud, stay clear on fully wiping your phone... Remember your walking in a thin line here when your flashing Custom ICS ROMs...
Just a heads up, that's all.
Cheers!

first, let's tackle your second question. If your on Criskelo ICS now, please under NO circumstances, YOU DO NOT FULLY WIPE your phone before going back to the pre rooted GB. There's a bug circulating around the forum and it's called the SUPER BRICK BUG. It'll fry your emMC chip (on your phone) thereby making it as a dead paper bag. There are countless of folks here already that have succumbed to the bug. Most have returned their dead phone back to Samsung Repair for an exchange on the motherboard. That is how deadly this bug can sting your phone.
So stay away from it. (It's better late than never, mind you)
on your first question,
Use PC Odin to downgrade to a pre rooted GB one. That's it.
Cheers!

@All
Thanks for the your responses
This is what i did after getting some doubts cleared over here:
I rolled back to a prerooted ODEX gb ROM..and installed rocketrom for now..gonna use it for a while and check how people are finding criskelo v10.1..Once im satisfied with that gonna go ahead with flashing it..

You sure you have enough battery on your phone? Go to download mode again and flash gingerbread, root the phone. Then copy the slim bean into your internal SD card. Now go into CWM and do three wipes (Cache, Dalvik and Data). And flash the ROM....It should be up and running after that...

If it doesn't boot flashing GB again sorts the problem out, thats GB again! It means your IMEI has lost. You need to go back to stock rom to retrieve your IMEI. Download any gingerbread stock rom from net.

Sorry if I interrupt, but i have a quite similar problem. My SGS DOES boot though, and works okay... BUT it isn´t recognized proberly by my pc(although having all drivers installed) tried reinstalling both drivers and whole OS. Also tried other computers and cables. Phone boot fine in download and recovery mode but isn´t recognized by Odin, heimdall, oneclick etc.? My question is as following: Is it in anyway possible to grab a OTA/STOCK .zip to flash in Recovery 3e??
Thanks

When you flash from GB to ICS or jb and even fro. Ics to jb it will reboot on install then you need to go back into recovery and run the install a second time this is due to a partition change and the kernel needing to be rebooted into one compatible with those partitions so basicly flash cm9 or 10 twice for it to boot correctly

It is just name of the ROM, and the developer writes you clearly in the first blue field, in the first text line:
Android Base CM10.1.3. RC1 JellyBean
JellyBean is not ICS (ICS is 4.0.x) so you need Gapps for CM10.1x / Android 4.2.x
CyanogenMod 9 is based on ICS

Are there any install methods using Odin. I see there is a full download on the page but it appears to be for a I9003. Have searched all over and not seen anything as yet

This isn't meant to be flashed via Odin.
Download the rom + addons + gapps + CM9 (you don't need CM9 gapps). You can download the rom + addons from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075058
1.) Backup everything you need to- call logs, SMS, bookmarks, etc with Titanium or other methods of your choice
2.) Reboot into recovery. Perform the three wipe combo (data, cache, Dalvik)
3.) Flash CM9. You'll probably have to flash it twice- once for the kernel, another time for the rom. Let it boot.
4.) Once CM9 has booted, check that you still have reception.
5.) Reboot into recovery again and do the wipe combo. This time choose to flash the base rom. You'll need to flash it three times- once due to the incompatible partition (first flash overcomes this), another time for the kernel, a third time for the rom.
6.) Once the base rom's finished flashing, reboot. Check you still have your IMEI- you'll know if you still have reception.
7.) Reboot to recovery, flash addons (flash Addons then Addons_V1)
8.) Reboot
9.) Back to recovery (AGAIN), flash gapps.
Unfortunately a one-time flash with Odin isn't possible. But the endless flashes you have to do for RemICS V6 is well worth it

thx for reply
thx for your reply and apologies for getting back to you late.
If only i could do it the way you suggested but for some reason (me) i have messed the phone so that it now no longer is able to mount the external SDCard so putting the relevent zip files on the ext card is useless because in recovery mode using CWM these files fail to show.
I note that via CWM it shows the card as unmounted. If i try and do a mount it fails.
any ideas?
thx

thx for your reply and apologies for getting back to you late.
If i try and do a mount it fails.
any ideas?
thx

What about your internal storage?

Here is where my noob-ness kicks in.
What internal storage is available by default on the Note1? Is it just the internal sdcard?
what puzzled me when I last flashed with odin (repeated it a number of times as I was trying to get the device to recognise ext sd card) to get the current Darky Extreme rom on (which is working fine no problem at all) is that there was still some relic directory structure left over. These were all empty folders visible when navigating within CWM. Didn't matter what type of formatting I did they wouldn't go. To summarise: much confusion and something got twisted.
So questions arising are:
-How to nuke the internal disk/card properly so there are no remnants prior to me doing another darky reinstall?
-Then, how to copy a zip file to internal card but still have it remain after the format and wipes that would precede a zip install?
-How to fix the device to mount the ext sdcard? FYI other sdcards can't be mounted either. I have tried 4 different ones. And here's the kicker-once booted I go to file manager and there I can see and access all the files/folders on the external card!!! So it's definitely a phone problem as opposed to a sdcard problem. Something got flagged along the line.
