Hi all, is there a way to get the stock KF HD reading app on other devices? I am specifically interested in the ability of text to speech. The Android Kindle app doesn't support it like the HD does. Thanks.

As far as I know its reliant on the amazon framework so you cannot just use the apk from the kindle.
Its a shame I know.
Yep, gotta do the one from Play. It's good too, just too bad it doesn't have all the same options.
from my Viped out one x
Would be also really interested!
Is there anything new about it?

Install Ivona(the internal voice of the KFHD7) and CoolReader from the market. I Only have KFHD7 but, if there is any form of setting the TTS engine and voice in the Kindle fire then, CoolReader is a better option than the simplistic Amazon reader.
Is the TTS engine who reads, not the reader app, so install Ivona TTS HQ engine, your voice of preference, and enjoy....
Edit: I know, I know, also you need Calibre, a PC program to convert from Kindle format to Epub....

So I'm curious what others have found to be the best office type app out there that works on the N7 here?
I bought Docs 2 Go back when it first came out and I was lucky enough to catch the Amazon FAOTD when they gave away pretty much every big office app; Docs2Go, QuickOffice Pro, QuickOffice Pro HD for Honeycomb (not sure this would even load), and OfficeSuite Professional 6.
They all seem to have good and bad, but I'm wondering if others out there have more experience, different opinions, etc.

I have been VERY happy with Kingsoft Office.
It is in the Play Store for free. It integrates with Dropbox, box.net, and Google Drive. Nice, smooth UI. I've used it on several devices and like it more than the other options out there.

I like OfficeSuite Pro. It was the App of the Day with Amazon a few months back and does a good job. Otherwise I try to stick with Google Docs/Drive.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I went with Quickoffice Pro HD. Seems pretty good so far!
Actual QuickOffice Pro HD? I purchased it previously for another tab but it tells me now it is incompatible with the Nexus 7. What am I missing? Good Play Store shows regular QuickOffice Pro available but that is all.

Above post should say Google Play Store not Good! Auto correct can be a pain sometimes.

I got it as a FAOTD from Amazon and it actually says "QuickOffice Pro HD (for Honeycomb tablets)" and seems to work fine.
Best is onlive. Pay to get the free virtual machine setup with win7 and office. Use your tab just like it was running office 2010 native.

Had to go with Office Suite as Quick Office couldn't open my password protected Spreadsheet files.
Is there an office suit that has a 'dark mode' like the e-reader apps all do? -Ara

Morning everyone!
My now fiancé bought me a 7" tab2 for our anniversary and so far love it. Only thing I couldn't find info on was reviews on reading books/magazine on this tablet. Do you guys have any opinions on the reading magazines through kindle or google play?
Thanks in advance
Happy anniversary! I really like the Kindle app. I use it on all my devices for books and magazines. Easy to use and it is nice having everything sync and auto delivered.

I use Zinio to read magazines, sometimes you found good deals in subscriptions
Thank you for the respones guys!
I have Flipboard and Currents already on the tab since I loved them so much on my GNex. I also read my comics through comixology which is pretty good I'm just having difficulty setting up a year subscription for (The Walking Dead on there). I'll keep an eye on on the kindle app but I already see some mags. I want to subscribe to are either Fire or iOS only.

What are the differences between the regular version apps vs the kindle edition version apps? Would it make a real difference from installing either or on the KFHD 7?
Sent from my KFTT using xda premium
Some of the kindle edition apps are optimized/improved for certain kindle hardware. It really depends upon which app you are talking about and what that particular app author did to make the "kindle" edition of the app. Which apps are you asking about? If I have experience with them on both my kindle and other devices I can tell you what I've observed.

Well what brought the question up was the skype app, but now it goes to all of them. Now when I see a kindle edition app I wonder what is so different and how would the regular one perform compared to the kindle edition one.

Specifically-optimized apps behave differently. If you were to take a regular Scrabble app, it would scale up to fit the Kindle's resolution. Sometimes this ends well, other times it doesn't. The app may look weird and disproportionate. The Kindle Edition Scrabble was made specifically with the Kindle's resolution and hardware in mind (its powerful OMAP processor), so it fits well in the screen and looks great.
Hi peeps
quick question.... if I remove silk entirely (cause I hate it and don't really want 2 launchers installed) will more apps in the Google store be more compatible? or is that just the way the kindle is made?

3 Things:
Wrong thread
Silk isn't a launcher
Yes, there are plenty of launchers and browsers available
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD using xda app-developers app
Hmmm.... obviously silk isn't what I meant then.... I wand to remove the original kindle software to stock vanilla android.... there are a few apps which at the moment if I search the google play store and they're either not there or don't work and then have to use the amazon Appstore to get a working version... would removing all the amazon launcher stuff make those apps work/available? Or would it not make any difference?
To clarify: Silk is the web browser.
And back to the issue at hand, if you want vanilla android, CyanogenMod is the closest you will ever get.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD using xda app-developers app
I don't think it has anything to do with the Amazon apps. I think I read somewhere that it has something to do with the build.prop (which isn't something to go messing with).
If you want to see those incompatible apps in the Play Store, use this app here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...ps-without-changing-the-build-prop-root-only/

Is there an apk I can install or a simple fix afor wallpaper in 3rd party launchers? I am rooted but have a 2013 Kindle Fire HD.
Use the one in my signature, you need to have busybox installed to use it, don't think busybox was included in the root process on 2013 models so you have to get a busybox installer from the Google play store.

To all,
It looks like the OP is viewing this from mobile, which, unfortunetly, doesn't show signatures (other than the "sent from whatever device I've got" one).
