Here's an interesting problem: Using an hdmi dock with an hdmi cable on the newest Sprint Gingerbread rom seems to kill GPS. When I bring up Google Maps it just can't find the satellites.
I don't know if the rom has anything to do with it but I do know that this rom acts with a different set of rules than the previous ones.
If I use the dock with the 3.5mm audio out and unplug the hdmi cable it works fine.
I know I'm probably the only person the planet that uses a Tab this way but if anyone has gotten this configuration to work please let me know so I know that I'm not crazy.
thanks
Mine works fine.
Tmo tab on latest overcome.

I have the same problem as you with HTC Sensation. Did you found the solution?
Not really. I have a theory that connecting the HDMI out is unbalancing the GPS antenna. I might start cutting wires and isolating the ground but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Well I've tried a new hdmi dock, 2 different hdmi receivers, and even a galaxy tab 7.0 plus. It seems to be endemic to Samsung's hardware.
Time to try a Springboard
What's up you guys!
This official dock.. Desktop dock..http://www.google.dk/imgres?imgurl=...=dceKUKOYI4fMtAbA24GACA&ved=0CE8Q9QEwAg&dur=9
This dock has an audio out jack in the bottom. It's linked to the USB charger and when you plug in the phone to the dock, it will play the sould through it, ON OFFICIAL ROMS, what about on AOKP or CM10? Is there anyways to make this work? Should I try some app? Anything?
- AOKP has dock settings but they grey out as soon as I plug in the phone, and if it's not plugged in the settings simply toasts me that there's no dock, duuuuh. Any1 know anything? I can't go back to stock now, ofc. I can't. I'd just rly like to use the dock for the purpose I once bought it for.. Serving my stereo, yeah.
Help me out?

OMG, nevermind, I found this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...hl=en&rdid=net.muteheadlight.dockredir&rdot=1 And it works GREAT on AOKP Jellybean. - Says to work for all Samsung S devices also. ^^ Well happy. Redirects my sound flawlessly. But, wont do the trick for call in audio during car rides. Hell, I don't own a car. Does the trick for me. Deffo.
Does CM10.1 HashofCode unofficial targa build support car dock?
I plugged it into my Car Nav Doc (worked fine for ICS official build) and nothing happens.
I tried downloading a car dock app and plugged it back into the dock, with auto-launch turned on if docked, and got "this feature is not supported".

The only rom I could ever find that had the docs working was eclipse which doesn't appear to be coming out for 4.2.2
I too bought this phone for the docks. I use them all daily. I even use the lapdock for business meetings. Thank God for Safestrap...
Dear All,
I have just flashed to the most update nightly version of cyanogenmod 10.1 for P880, everything seems working fine except for MHL output. It output to my TV with only 720p + weird rotation.. ie even the screen of my P880 is landscape, it display portrait on my TV.
On the stock ROM it won't being that and there was an option to adjust the default output resolution. Is there any way to adjust it on Cyanogenmod??? Please help. Thank you.

The only MHL functionality currently working in CM 10.1 is direct mirroring. This means that it will directly mirror the display on your device as it would look holding it straight up. To add to the fun, the default is to keep your display rotated at 90 degrees when HML is connected, although it is possible to fix this to 0 degrees instead.
Since the 4x screen only supports 720p resolution that implies that you won't get a higher resolution on your TV either using this mirroring functionality.
I have already been trying for weeks now to do something about this, but it's a royal pain. The problem is that the hdmi mirroring seems to be completely handled inside the nvidia tegra proprietary drivers, which are closed source. This means that the easiest solution, which would be to edit these drivers, is not an option. Moreover, it makes it more difficult to establish exactly how the interaction between the android system and these drivers occurs.
LG clearly found a way to make it work though, which I suspect involved adding better multiple screens support to android. That would indeed open up the possibility to change the output resolution, as the tegra chip seems to support higher resolution. I have not given up on the problem yet, so perhaps I'll get lucky in the future and get things working.

Thanks for your detail reply, I have just found that they said about the Nivdia proprietary driver issue. ie. The resolution is almost impossible to fix.
On the stock rom, LG did a very great job on this, even the P880 has only 720P, but they can upscale(or stretch) it to 1080p and rotate it correctly over MHL.
But what do you mean we can fix it by set it to 0 degree?? (I have try the auto rotation and limit it to single orientation, but it does not work) So, how can I do it? Honestly, I really don't care if it is 1080p or not, coz' what I think it is just upscale(or stretch), I can also do it on my TV set too. The problem is the orientation. Anyways, 1000 x thanks on your reply.
Mike
I am interested in this MHL problem too
But I noticed that when the device is booting up with MHL adapter in place of course the "cyanogen"(bootscreen) is normal on my TV but later when the rom is fully booted that weird rotation takes place
So I thank that this is CM 10.1 problem, and I dont know how to solve it

I said you can fix the rotation to 0 instead of 90, but that does not fix the problem. You can do this by adding a line 'persist.demo.hdmirotation=portrait' to your build.prop. I do not find it too useful though, as most things you'd want to display externally work better in landscape mode.

After the boot sequence the window managers kick in and decide you should be stuck on landscape mode while connected via MHL. You can change that part quite easily. The real challenge is making the MHL output rotate independently and use the entire screen.

Please tell me how to chance to full landscape instead of portrait mode?!
I'm running CM10.1 "cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-jewel-M2" on my HTC EVO 4G LTE (Jewel). MHL/HDMI doesn't work at all for me. Very disappointing.
Even getting GPS to work was a hassle. Hope they get the kinks worked out in the next milestone update; would love to be able to hook my phone up to my TV again. Very convenient.

Yes, that's a shame, but it is primarily a vendor problem, as writing proper support is near-impossible when the APIs for the video drivers are kept secret. I also fail to see what your problems with the HTC EVO have to do with the 4X HD, apart from the fact that they both appear to be supported by the CM crew.
Can somebody help me with the tutorial on how to enable mhl on CM10.1.

Sure.
1) Take your separately bought HML adapter.
2) Plug the power cable into the adapter.
3) Plug the adapter into your phone.
4) Plug a HDMI cable into the other end of the adapter.
5) Plug the HDMI cable into your TV.
6) Set your TV to the correct HDMI output channel if necessary.
Optionally,
7) Discover that HML with CM 10.1 does not work the way you want, since the image on the TV is rotated.
You're welcome.

Hi Wenque
You seem to know stuff about this problem.
I too have an P880 running CM10.1 and I recently bought a new stereo for my car, where I can connect my phone using MHL. And I obviously have the same problem.
Do you know if someone at CM are working on a solution or something? I know you wrote it's hard to fix, but it would be nice with some information on, whether there is hope for a solution or not.
Thanks

I already tried this. But when I start a game it doesn't follow screen rotation. I think I'll have to flash stock to test it.

Are there any news in this matter?
I'm using another ROM on my phone at the moment, but it's only Android 4.1, to get MHL working.
I would very much like to switch back to CM when, if ever, they have MHL working.

Apparently not.
Well for me it doesn't really matter anymore, I'll just stick to Android 4.1 until the LG G2 is available here in Denmark, and then I'll probalby buy it.
Unless the next Nexus device is announced in the meantime, and it's worth waiting for.

Hi Wenque, I have googled around and found the parameter "config_undockedHdmiRotation" on "platform_frameworks_base/blob/master/core/res/res/values/config.xml". Maybe setting it to 270 would solve the issue?
Wondering if it's possible to set the resolution of the device to 1280x720 instead of 720x1280 on kernel can solve the hdmi output problem too..
*I'm not a android developer, just trying to help e sorry for my bad english
I got an adapter for the HDMI outlet. When I use it to connect the phone to tv or monitor, the big screen says no signal.
When attached, the phone does rotate the home screen, which it does not do normally, so I think that the adapter is working.
I have Cyanogenmod android 4.4.4. There are no settings for hdmi, no Overscan like stock OS (there is only Expanded Desktop, whatever that is).
Is there some setting I have overlooked? Is there something else I should do to get the signal out to the monitor? Is my adapter not working?
Thanks
It works for me using CarbonROM 08/04 build using an HDMI to micro HDMI adapter. Also there aren't any settings because I think only atrix HD and maybe a couple others have an HDMI out port. Did you get a Motorola factory micro HDMI to HDMI cable? Or did you buy an adapter like mine?
I have the small adapter, no cord.
I bought an adapter from ebay, the cheapest i could find, and it works no problem with one of my hdmi cable, i have a longer one that stays with no signal, test a different cable. :good:
When you plug the cable and adapter into the phone, does the monitor just blink on and show the phone screen?
Also, does the phone's home screen only rotate after being plugged into the monitor? (like mine does)
My cables to the tv and monitor definitely work. The adapter might not, but its affecting the home screen rotation makes me think it does work; then maybe Cyanogenmod or Android 4.4.4 doesn't work.

The adapter should be working based off of what you described. I'm sitting on the 20140102 revision of 4.3.1 and I see the same thing on my device. Only difference is that I do get a signal. No HDMI option in any menu present. Expanded Desktop is full screen mode and should be used with a BT mouse or Pie. I don't believe there is anything you have overlooked, but then again I have yet to really start playing with KK on my daily device (currently running stable version on DX and alpha version on A4G)
Thanks for the inputs.
Whoop, I see I actually have Android 4.4.2 if that matters.
I have Cyanogenmod 11.0-20140109
I would like to hear if anyone uses either of these and hdmi.
I only have lap dock to connect to but I also get no signal blinking screen on all ROMs I've tried except for stock based I even tried Dr orange's suggested 8/4 carbon build

I'm a little late on this but since I just tested this today: This may be a CM or KK thing as you say. I had the same symptoms you reported when testing with AHD on CM11 1/1/15 msm8960 jbbl nightly but with the same TV setup and cables stock JB phone system worked great with HDMI. More detail From this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57975553&postcount=676 which I posted put up before discovering this thread.(text pasted below)
"I got a Micro HDMI male to HDMI female adapter and had a chance to test in the 1/1/15 MSM8960 JBBL nightly . It did not work although the phone and TV were clearly talking through the cable when connected:
- Phone media sound mutes.
- Phone goes into forced landscape mode for all screens including desktop regardless of native and theme based rotation settings.
- TV screen input type displays HDMI for a few seconds before fading (an indication that TV has seen an HDMI device).
- When cable is disconnected a flash of colored squares on the TV indicates a change of state at the TV, the phone goes back to portrait mode and resumes playing sound.
From what I've read this may still be a limitation of CM but there is also a lesser possibility that this is due to limitations of the TV. The only reports of successful HDMI connections I've seen for the Atrix HD are in stock but I did not have long enough access to the test rig to try stock and eliminate TV and cabling as potential issues. Will do that next chance I get.
[EDIT] Tested in stock on the same gear and HDMI worked great. Phone went into landscape as described above and the TV picked up the image of the desktop fine with minimal cropping of the side edges - possibly correctable at the TV. Media audio plays to TV through HDMI connection with no addition configuration required at TV or phone. Not sure what (if anything) is missing from CM in regards to to fully negotiating the connection and sending the video/audio."
Still chasing functional HDMI out in CM. From my recent post of testing results at the AHD CM thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58469229&postcount=683:
HDMI-Micro out fail
HDMI-mico out still Not Working in anything but stock JB. CM and other KK builds not working including the following:
- CM11 msm8960 jbbl 1/1/15 nighlty in ART.
- CM11 msm8960 jbbl 1/19/15 nighlty in Dalvik (converted to Dalvik from ART)
- CM11 msm8960 jbbl 1/25/15 nighlty in Dalvik having never been in ART
- Clean flash of Validus msm8960 jbbl Lollipop (no gapps)
- Clean flash of CM11 msm8960 jbbl 1/19/15 nighlty in Dalvik (no gapps)
- CM11 msm8960 jbbl 1/25/15 nighlty in Dalvik having never been in ART (restored)
In all of the cases listed above when HDMI cable was connected between phone and TV; Phone screen goes to landscape, media stream muted at phone speaker, and TV flashes as if about to receive signal but no video or audio on TV.
I cant think of a reason why the TV would be able to receive properly from stock JB but not any of the other builds on the same device. In the interest of thoroughness I have to test on a different TV. Beyond that I don’t know.
