Well I originally had the Asus transformer as my first tablet. It was fantastic. Fast. Great screen. Good build quality etc.
Was very happy with it. Was 10inch as well.
But anyway. After about a year with it, I decided I wanted to switch to the 7 inch form factor. I wanted something smaller and more portable. This was all due to the nexus 7! A friend at work had brought one in one day and I had some brief time with it.
I loved the size immediately and I still do. Its so slim and portable and cute and....uhhhh. Just nice!
Feels lovely in the hands. Also the fact that its a nexus device is also a blessing. Updates should be no problems. And the AOSP firmware is definitely a good thing as well.
The screen is nice. Its not the best but its nice. Can't complain there.
The price is excellent as well. Big selling point. I got my 32GB for 199 GBP. Again can't complain.
After about 8 months with it now, I'm still very very happy. The device has held up very well, but then again I do look after it very well.
Another strong point of the 7 is the battery life. Its excellent I think. I mostly run mine at about 60 percent brightness, and I get easily over 5 hours screen on time. For moderate usage, the battery lasts for days on end it seems. For heavy usage, easily one can get through a whole day.
Overall its an excellent tablet. The specs are also still very commendable with 1 gig ram and tegra 3 quad CPU. I will be holding on to mine for a while yet I think.
Unless Google wows us all with an even better sequel with a similar price point.

i was wondering if i should get the nexus 7 or the archos 97 carbon.im not sure.i would like to have a tablet soon and i dont have that much patience for shipping and speed of the hardware.please answer.Im heading towards the nexus.
The answer here is easy - you are in the wrong forum. A mod will be along shortly to move you to Questions and Answers...
Probably the Nexus 7. I haven't owned an Archos device, but most of the reviews for their tablets on Amazon are lukewarm. Plus, developing will be better for the Nexus by far. But, just to assure you that the Nexus 7 is the better choice:
1. The Nexus is running on an A9 Processor (Tegra 3, of course) which is already a pretty dated seeing as there are a few A15s out there already. But seeing as the Tegra 3 is insanely powerful, it makes up for this. The Archos is still on an A8, which is very old in tech standards.
2. The screen on the Nexus has a better screen resolution despite being smaller. The Archos will probably be grainier and have much less detail than the Nexus because it has less PPI.
3. It will not be updated timely and it's already behind. Of course, nothing is really running on Jelly Bean other than Nexus devices, but don't expect the Archos to be updated to Jelly Bean very quickly.
4. The developer community will be very small. Archos is not a huge player in the Android market. I found one of their tablets with a 250gb HDD (an actual hard drive) really appealing last year until I found that there was very little developing for it.
5. It's basically a year old spec-wise. There really isn't anything there that can't be found in the original Transformer or Galaxy Tab 10.1. Really, nothing.
The only pro it really has is the expandable storage and screen size (but not a better screen). If you really desire these two things, go for it. But the Nexus is clearly the superior device.
It sounds like an iPad would be a good choice for you.

What do you say guys, I have a Droid Razr Maxx and I'm not sure if the 7in screen would be that much different than my phone. So do you guys think I should sell my iPad and buy a Nexus 7 or what.
I wouldnt do it. But think about how you gonna use it, since you have a Android device it should be easier...
Enviado desde Gameboy Pocket
I was thinking the same. My OneX has a 4.7" screen. But when you think about it, a 7" screen is at least double the area of our phone screens. To me a tablet should do something that my laptop cant do already, and that is be ultra portable, and thats where the 7" tablet comes in could even fit in my pants back pocket at a stretch. Plus its only 200$ and a fun toy
I'm selling mine. I have an ipad and a MacBook air 11" so the ipad is out and the nexus 7 is in.

i compared the Samsung 7 tab to the ipad in a store at lunchtime.. the ipad is considerably bigger... that said the size of the Samsung convinced me the Nexus 7 would be a nice jump from my Galaxy Nexus screen so i pre ordered one.. i would have to add 200 euro to my store credit to get the 16gb ipad 3... i think it would be unfair to compare the two really... i am wondering though if i just want a 'living room' device would i be better of with a screen the size of the ipad... the decisions one has to make..
Depends what you use your ipad 2 for. If you play a lot of games on it then I would keep it. Android rocks but the games on it are not even close to what ipad has and is getting. I am hoping one day developers release those games on both systems at same time. I got a Nexus 7 but also keeping my ipad.

I sold mine for 350 as well, but hopefully all of ours will be shipped within the next 3 business days.
I sold my iPad 2 in to buy the Asus Infinity but a few days ago I traded a bunch of games into GameStop and put the credit toward the Nexus 7. I honestly did not have the intention of getting the nexus but GameStop does not have a preorder available for the Infinity yet. Today I received a phone call from GameStop to come pick up the N7, after a little deliberating I decided to do so... Long story not so short... I am soooooooo very happy I got the N7. Honestly, I am debating if I am going to get the Infinity now. I am absolutely very impressed with the N7.

I believe that there is no comparison between the two. n7 is a great device but is more ipad
Any conclusions from the people that sold their iPad 2's to get a Nexus 7? Do you like that you made the trade? Wish you hadn't?
I have the iPad 2 and looking I plan on purchasing the nexus 7 once quality improves. However, for me, I plan on keeping both. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages IMHO.
For my use, a 10 inch (iPad 2) has advantages when my laptop or netbook are not with me. I don't game. I use my iPad 2 for email, calendar, salesforce.com, and basic doc/xls/ppt editing. Most of the time, I travel with just my iPad 2. It may not be a performance powerhouse, but it works consistently and reliably.
A 7 inch(nexus) provides better portability for those times that I need to check something quick (calendar/email/view a doc) and don't want to boot my laptop or netbook.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
use some of the money you made and but some good tegra 3 games especially dark meadow, it's amazing
I do 95% of my gaming on my laptop, the only games I really play on my iPad are words with friends and draw something. I mostly use my iPad for school books and taking notes in class with my stylus.
Do you still use your TF201? Or miss it if you sold it?
I bought the TF201 with keyboard dock in mid February. I was, like every other Prime owner, very stoked to own one. The most powerful and expensive Android tablet, first with Tegra 3, ICS, keyboard dock, etc. I loved blowing peoples minds when I'd pull the screen apart from the keyboard. It was like my second child.
I sold that thing as soon as the Nexus 7 started shipping. I was hesitant at first because I kept thinking about how going from a Prime to a 7" with NO ports, no camera, no storage expansion, would be a downgrade.
So, I realized that any other tablet that was out around the beginning of July was just blah to me. The only thing better than the Prime was the Asus Infinity, and it was just a Prime with a higher res screen. Meh.
I got my Nexus 7 and do not miss the Prime one bit. Between the **** WiFi and GPS, and the bug ridden software, and the fact that I got this kick ass piece of N7 tech for $200, I feel like I got raped on the Prime.
The only way I might possibly use the Prime if I still had it, would be to play Asphalt 7 or Dead Trigger via HDMI on my TV. Other than that, don't miss her at all!
The Nexus 7 is something fresh, and it does deserve all the praise it's getting. When I can honestly say that I prefer the $200 Nexus over a $650 high end flagship device, I call that an epic frickin win!
Do you miss your Transformer?!
Hell no man. I am in the same boat as you. I am finding the 7 inch form factor with the Logitech BT keyboard is a killer combo.
I only miss the micro SD and HDMI. But the price difference and usability far make up for those things fortunately. And I have mine rooted with stickmount so I can use SD cards and what not so that helps.

Lol nice! Yea between the 7" size and me actually buying some music, magazines, and books because of the $25 credit, I'm using my Nexus for more and more, and using it differently than all my other tablets. I also think it kicks the Primes ass in performance, and I flashed every TF201 ROM/kernel/mod there is. But comparing both out of the box I think N7 gets it.
I'm so happy with the Nexus, I have no plans (yet) to even root, unlock, or flash Roms. And I'm a flash whore
I have to admit, I do want to enable the full tablet UI on the Nexus. So right now that would be the only reason to root.
Just curious...since there are a few different ways to root, which method did you use?
I hated my Prime with a passion. The only thing I hated more than my Prime was my Xoom. It felt cheap and was plagued with bugs. It was the, dare I say Prime of the android tablets, but that wasn't saying much at all. Sold both of them and got the retina iPad and although it was running iOS it was a much much much better tablet experience. It is my new baby and doesn't let me down. I had turned away from android (/in tablets not in phones I love my Galaxy Nexus) and wasn't ever going to look back. That was until the Nexus 7 launched. I mean I back during the rumors I always felt I was going to get one I mean a sub $200 Nexus branded 7 inch tablet what Android enthusiast wouldn't, right? Well, I was blown away by the Google Nexus 7 announcement at IO and ordered it a few minutes after I could. I got it and I love it. It doesn't feel like a stale old android tablet at all and I think Jelly Bean and Project Butter are the main reasons.
I still have my iPad around and it is still my favorite tablet, but the Nexus is great for reading and the Dev community is going to be great. I'm still not a giant fan of ASUS hardware, but this feels much better built than the Prime any day. The display isn't the greatest especially when having the better than great retina, but those are small things I can get over especially considering the cost. The only thing I'm really having a rough time with is the same thing I've always had a rough time with android and that's the severe lack of not just tablet apps but apps in general. I hate to beat a dead horse, but after months with iOS and the great apps and developers on that platform it feels like taking a giant leap backwards. I mean the 7 inch form factor does make the apps better than on any 10 inch tablet but still it just feels stale. Right now its just a great toy, excellent ereader and developer device as I continue to learn to code. Let's hope the popularity of this device brings some great apps. I'm glad you are all loving your Nexus 7 as much as I have.

Its a Nexus man just plug it in and cd to the SDK and type fastboot oem unlock. Unlock your device. Through fastboot flash your recovery and install superuser and your good to go. No exploits to worry bout at all. It was the first thing I did when pulling it out of the box. I'm still running the stock out of the box 4.1.1 software image, but that's because it is so great. Mine was a little laggy while flipping through home screens so I'm running Apex launcher and that is honestly all I've done. Its been great and Jelly Bean really is much better than ICS and I won't use any phone or tablet unless it is the Nexus branded type. I just can't stand the bastardized skins and being always at least one full android version behind.

I hear ya. When I went to buy a new tablet in February, I was told that Primes couldn't even be ordered at the time. So I went thru 3 tablets in 9 days. When I went to exchange the 3rd tab for something else, there was nothing else. I actually considered just buying an iPad, but being a hardcore fandroid, I didn't. I was hesitant at first to give up all the Primes premium features, like the HDMI,camera,SD slots, but I realized I never used them that much. I don't regret my choice one bit. Especially since I just installed the camera launcher app, just in case I need to capture a shot of my 2 year old daughter. Love my sexus Nexus
I had two primes, ASUS bought them back from me, and I don't miss them. One of them had the glass cracking while docked problem, and I did not trust that the second one would not do the same thing. Too expensive of a device for all it's short comings. I now have three 7's in the family. Good little units, only problems is the left side screen lift issues.
Shame on ASUS they need a better assembly/quality control process.....
i still have my prime. unlocked and running Androwook 2.1 with motley alpha kernel with overclock. its been running great. i will say i find myself using the nexus 7 more often. this device more than exceeded my expectations on it. it runs great. i have it unlocked also. running stock jb rom with motley linaro kernel with GPU & CPU overclock. runs like a champ. i would never get rid of my prime just to get a nexus. ill keep both ill eventually pass off the prime and get something else to replace it down the road.

Nice that is one hell of a trade if you ask me. You basically traded the Prime (which is not a great tablet in my opinion after own in about 5 months) for the two best tablets on the market. I love my combination of retina iPad and Nexus 7. I honestly use them both all the time. My Galaxy Nexus has pretty much been a dedicated LTE hotspot, my iPhone 4s my texting and phone, and my Macbook Pro basically just sits there with my PS Vita. After a year and a half with the Xoom and Prime I kick myself for not just getting an iPad 2, but it makes me appreciate both my tablets all the much more now. Android tablets really aren't that great at all and Google sees that and is making an attempt to fix the wrongs the OEMs have done over the past year and a half.
I love my Nexus for reading it is the perfect size and weight. The only things I would change is the display to one comparable to the displays apple uses and the extreme lack of apps. Honestly though I can deal with that as it is only $200 and to be honest if I'm going to use apps I will use them on my retina iPad. There is no comparison when it comes to android vs apple on the application front. I hope that changes, but for now its something we have to deal with.

Your all talking about selling the prime, unless you need the money, wait until aosp/cm10 has come a bit further, unlock that ***** and throw jelly bean on it....that'll really unlock the potential of it. It's still a great device its just severly handicapped by Asus making us practically beta testers.

I am uncertain as to what I would do with more than the 600,000 apps provided to me by the android ecosystem and therefore see no reason to spend excess money on an apple product. In other news, I have been pretty much consistently hands on the nexus 7 since I got it last Tuesday.

Its an amazing device for the price. Well worth it. Came from a 10 inch HP Touchpad and much prefer the 7 inch form factor now.

It's a really great device. Storage is it's only weakness. The16gb version should be your only option, though it's not enough either. But I love it. Feels like it's easily worth double the price.
I have only owned a capacitive tablet in the past with Android Eclair on it, that was complete balls and turned me completely off tablets.
The N7 is amazing, I can fit it in my pocket still, its powerful, the screen is crystal clear and responsive, amazing device that has restored my view of tablets in general.
Enjoy!
I've had my 8gb for about 12 hours and absolutely love it, I had a 16gb Asus Transformer up until yesterday and this is so much better. I agree with the previous poster regarding form factor, the Nexus is so much more comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
Jelly bean + Tegra 3 = Amazing performance.

Love it, easily the best tablet I have owned.
I was unsure of the 7in formfactor, but am now convinced.
I also know 7 people that have ordered them off the back of playing with mine, and several iPad3's up for sale as a result.
Nexus 7 was my first step into the Tablet world and i have to say coming from a Galaxy Note, i loved every bit of it. Its build quality is just awesome which makes it feel premium in the hand. It is packing some serious specs with a quad core CPU and 12 core oGPU and the software is very brilliantly optimised for the device. So everything has been great so far, however the only downside to the tablet is: lack of storage (not expandable) and the lack of a rear facing camera. Overall it is a great device and for the price point nothing even comes close to it. However dont overrate it becasue although it gives you the bang for the buck, all the hype is causing people to expect too much from it even with such a low pricepoint.
Thank you guys for all of your input. I just picked up the 16GB version from my local OfficeMax. It was their last one. And they only received 2 of them. I'm just about to open this bad boy up. Very excited!

I love my 16 GB nexus 7..u said u will be mainly gaming on the tab my gripe is that many game publishers havent optimized their games for tegra 3..dark knight returns and nova 3 for example are extremely choppy in comparison to how they run on other platforms....its not really the hardware its the game devs not optimizing code...I mean what good is a 12 core GPU if its barely being utilized...I have a tfp also and its the same issue with choppiness in certain games that should absolutely not be present.

I just got mine today. Ordered it July 19 "2-day shipping" LOL. Anyway device arrived intact. Screen appears to be well stuck onto device. Lol
It is beautiful. Can't find a defect anywhere so far. The only thing that sucks is I have not been able to install Whatsapp! It says my device is not compatible with this version. Everything else flawless though.
Only had mine a few hours. No issues that I've noticed. Better than I thought it was going to be, a nice size to use, less bulky than iPad but much more usable than a smartphone. Much faster than the Asus TF101 and Jelly Bean is far better than Honeycomb.
I'm loving mine! Had it for a couple days now and it is fantastic to type on! It gets a little difficult in landscape but that's fine with me. The only annoyances as of now is where the nav bar is when you go landscape. I saw that on the Galaxy nexus in landscape the bar goes to the side with the device. On this tablet, it stays in the middle making it difficult to touch. This device isn't all that good in portrait landscape besides for watching stuff. It really made me fall in love with stock Android all over again. Shame my phone uses sense
Using my nexus as I type this. And I must say this thing is amazing. Blazing fast. Beautiful display. Very comfortable to hold in the hand and has a premium feel to it. I haven't tried any gaming yet and will check to inform you guys how that goes. The only thing I have noticed is while watching the transformer movie that was preloaded on the device, it skips and lags just a bit every now and then. Other than that I have no complaints so far. I will post some more thoughts after more use. Thanks for your advice guys.

I really like my N7. I've had it for a couple weeks now and no complaints. The iPad has taken a backseat.

When I watched Transformers, it was not preloaded - it was streamed from the Cloud. It did pause - occasionally - for the streaming to catch up.
None of your freebies come preloaded, although you can download them.
Not sure which is more of a waste - Transformers or the ads posing as magazines.
Gaming is fantastic...
Are you happy with your nexus 4 ? with the performance, build quality, feel, ect...
Imho the only dissapointment is the build quality. Seems good at first, feels solid and glass makes it cool, but later all those squeaking sounds start coming. Drives me nuts lol
Also I read that it does not have any impact zones AT ALL.
for the price I paid (after Google's recent price drop), I am very happy with the phone. I paid $570 new for my Galaxy S4, so I had higher expectations for that phone given the price.
Couldn't be happier!
very
Absolutely. Easily the best phone I have owned.

My N4 has been the best phone I've ever owned and I doubt I'll buy a non-Nexus phone ever again.
It literally does everything I need it to do.
I love it. I had a nexus s, which was awesome, and this one's even better. It's a beast

I'll probably never be buying another non-Nexus device again. Would I love more battery life? Of course. Would I love if the speaker didn't suck and had a horrible location? You bet. But overall this device is absolutely amazing and I have no qualms.

my only gripe with this phone is the lack of cases compared to the Galaxy S3 or S4. I wish cases like the UAG or Speck Candyshell were available.
More than content, less than ecstatic.
My wishlist
LTE (official LTE)
Better battery life
non-glass back (always freaking out)
Better accessories
What I'm afraid of from the next nexus is
marginally better battery life. (would like considerably more)
always a lack of quality accessories as well. (story of the Nexus' life)
Yup.. Love it so much I'm skipping the next Nexus iteration just like I skipped the Galaxy Nexus before upgrading my Nexus S
Maybe there are phones with changeable battery's, maybe they have micro SD card slots, tones of cool Android features and better accessories... Maybe even they take awesome photos!? Who knows... Dunno. I got my Nexus...

I'm one of those who recently purchased the N4 due to the price drop. I gotta say its the best android phone I've used in stock form. Even compared to a GS4.
Since I just bought it, I might skip the N5.
This phone feels real nice as well. (No case)
Waiting for those creaks you speak of though.
