Haven't had any problems with games on Chameleon OS

Purity ROM with m-kernel

You'll want to make sure you select a good kernel.. Don't worry so much about which ROM. Trinity and m-kernel are both pretty smooth

Well all the roms will be basically the same but i would suggest you to use the franco kernel it is very smooth and has great features

Thread closed,
There is no true 'best' ROM, its all about personal experience, some will say ROM 'X' has the best battery life while others will say the same ROM has the worst.
This is why we do not allow such threads here, they have no real use and just tend to spark heated debates about which ROM is better.
So to find the 'best' ROM for you just try a few

How to make your note smooth and fast?

Guys, recently just flashed kingdroid a I'm in search of the best rom. I'm disappointed however because my note scored fairly low in antutu benchmark test. Any one knows what makes the phone faster and get higher scores in benchmarks? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Ehh....benchmarks vary so much. It all depends on what you are running (app-wise) and such. Anything can change a benchmark score.
Does the ROM "feel" smooth? Does it run good for you? This is what matters most, not benchmarks.
What really borders me about the note is the scrolling. There will always be aome scrolling lag. No doubt the phone is fast, but why the scrolling is laggy? Eg. Whatsapp scroll.

Try different kernels Bro

Tried the bestest rom and kernel out there but it still cant eliminate the scroll lag. Well there might be some improvements but its not as smooth as sgs2. Anyone out there having smooth scrolling as good as sgs2?

Theres really no best KERNEL or CUSTOM ROM unless you try them all and test it on your device, EACH device acts differently, for instance ICS Stunner may be really awesome on a majority of Galaxy Notes but on mine it struggles.
You can't go wrong by trying out all different ROMS and match the suited Kernel, I know its time consuming but it's worth it in the end as you'd know which ROM and Kernel suits your needs.

I am on Kingdroid and I flash Franco r5. When I used it with Franco updater, I can run the phone at 1600 MHz with v2.0. I am happy with the performance compare with other ICS rom I tried. However it is still not as fast in scrolling as my present sgs2 with Malice rom.
By saying the "best" rom and kernel means that the majority of the community is using and trust. And i had tried ALL the ics custom roms but still the lag is there. Im coming to know maybe there is no way to eliminate the lag. If someobe out there claim that they have no lag, pls share a video thanks.

When I tried some ics roms I found them to be really laggy and there were a few bugs. If u want something really smooth I suggest u stick with GB for the time being until all tje ics problems get sorted out.

Just try Rocket ROm v4 i think the scrolling in RR roms is generally smoother compared to other roms as i have been on all ICS roms there and found RR roms has better scrolling generally. Asylum too is smooth with thor .10 kernel
try KingDroid ICS ROM v2.0 it osum

If you want a ROM that run Games smooth, i recommand you to take a look at the "CyanAOSP".
I already tested some roms and i really like CyanAOSP, soo smooth and verry good for Gaming.
Tested on: Asphalt 7 , Real Fotbal 2013, Gangstar City, Subway Surfers, Temple Run, Asphalt 6, Earn to Die, Drag Racing, Need For Speed HP, Fifa 12 , Sky Safari and many others, No lag. and get 4400+ on Antutu.
All jb ROMs are smooth;specifically AWAYS ROMs.

Agree. Have been on this ROM for the longest time since it launched.

what are you running on your nexus 7

eactly what are you running on your nexus 7, rom, kernal and launcher and are you rocking any other mods or tweaks with this combination. the device is not brand new most people may have found something that works well for them by now.
ChameleonOS with Chameleon Launcher, and Trinity Kernel have become my Daily Drivers.
No Lag, games play well, videos play well with XBMC and MXPlayer.
Haven't found any need for any tweeks, N7 has been running beautifully.
I'm running this.
I've tried almost every popular ROMs on xda and finally I stick with Purity ROM because
1. It's one of smoothest I've ever tried and it smooth because it's really smooth not by change the way launcher animate and animation speed like in some other ROMs.
2. It's contains only function I want like Pie, Expanded desktop and choose-able status bar show or hide for example.
3. It's can have a really good benchmarks score if you're run it along with some good custom kernels.
4. It's not only fast in benchmarks score but it's also fast in term of real-feel as well.
And for a kernels my choice would be
1. M-Kernel if I want overall performance and best battery life.
2. Faux kernel if I want overall performance (a little bit overall smoother experience).
3. Motley kernel if I want best frame-rate this kernel always give me additional 6-12 fps compare to all the others.
All above is just my personal taste and experience.

I'm a convert to Franco, I absolutely love the performance increase, still on the fence between going to AOKP or CM 10.1. What kind of audio mods are you working with?

Any suggestions for a ROM to go with Franco.kernel? Battery life is a must and I really would like Tablet UI (if the DPI is comfy). The ones I was looking at all seem to be abandoned by the devs, and I want something that is still being built on. Any input would be awesome, thanks!

i agree w/ him. Dmod's really fast and stable, everything is functional.
DMod V5 Rocks!
+1 for DMod V5 Rom for S3 Mini... So smooth, fast and stable...
In what way is it better than enox? Which I am currently using.. I like the stability, the battery consumption etc. I don't use software that demands high cpu or gpu.
i use dmod v5 .very smooth, low battery consumption and super stable. i'll go with it,even i didn't ever had enox's rom ,so my opinion isn't based on any kind of comparison...
I tried them all, including cm and went back to stock. Tweaked, rooted and moded like I want

I think stock kernel is the best. Every kernel I tried had some kind of lag at some point. Now I am back to the stock kernel and it is smooth as butter. Google got it right the first time. How is it for you guys ?

so for me on francos kernel the keyboard is super laggy
I love Trinity kernel, I've been using it for two years on my Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Nexus 4 and now Nexus 5.
B11 on the stock ROM (odexed and rooted with ART enabled) is sleeping better than the stock kernel did and the performance is amazing, which is to be expected considering it's Trinity.
@morfic just does something special... And the community around Trinity is the best on xda.

eventually, but it wont be the same as franciscos.
This thread will become a kernel fans thread lol. Anyways running franco since forever no lags at all after r11. Op you are right somehow though, custom kernels have to save some extra juice from somewhere, so devs try to find it at the expense of performance.
Clear improvement over stock running Faux's latest.

Bit of lag? Adjust governor parameters.
I would assume that the reason for lag is that many custom kernels disable mpdecision in a quest for better battery life.
At this stage what do you expect? Give it a while and then you'll find the stock kernel "laggy".
I like to keep things stock myself, but on my 2012 Nexus 7 I can't stand the stock kernel.
the stock kernel run smooth and great
the only thing I'd like to have is tap 2 wake but I don't like the other custom crap

Why is that? I did have lag using the latest Faux kernel and switching back to the ondemand governor fixed most of it, but I did keep the Intelliplug Hotplug driver on. How does enabling/disabling mpdecision affects battery life and stability?
back in the day with the captivate one of the early developers tested different cross compilers and the effects on wake time. i think that might have a little to do with it. most people are using the linaro compiler these days and it is good, i notice the difference on my other phone using linaro but my other phone never quite feels as good as it did stock with wake time. it may be possible that an older compiler may be better for some things. i tend to feel modded kernels do feel a little glitcy and this could be one area to look at. good news is that the sources have to be posted so you can compile your own version of someones kernel with different compilers or options to test things. maybe remove a commit or two...

Mpdecision ramps up the CPU instantly to 1ghz when a touch event occurs. This makes for a much smoother UI in general, but obviously would use a tiny bit more battery than if the phone were to stay at min clocks.
