I've rooted past devices via PC but I'm currently in a Mac only household. Obviously the toolkit doesn't work and I can't find any step by step guides on how to root the One via Mac OS? Can anyone here provide directions that I could follow? Not quite a noob but this will be my first time rooting on a Mac so keep it simple! Thanks in advance to anyone that's willing to help.
I wrote a tutorial
it's in the At&T section but it works regardless of carrier

I'm on a droid FRG83D following the step by step instructions on cyanogenmod's wiki.
I only have access to linux if that helps.
When I get to the step when I need to run sbf_flash I get an error:
Segmentation fault
Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance
Bump. Can someone help me root my droid please?
Me too
I was rooted but had to get a replacement and I have tried everything to get my root back and nothing works. Someone please help
Saw a couple of posts over at Droidforums.net that mentioned they used Super One Click available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 . They also updated z4root, so that would probably work as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 . Hope that helps...
Can you tell me if either of those work in linux?
I'm having the same problem. I've tried sbf_flash as listed on the CyanogenMod wiki, but it doesn't seem to work with v. FGR83D. Is there any way to root this droid in Linux? Every Windows app I've tried so far (RSD Lite mainly) fails too. I'd prefer to be able to do it in linux.
Which .sbf are you trying to flash? I JUST rooted via sbf_flash yesterday so I know it works. It is possible the .sbf is screwy.
I have started a thread here to root your Droid, check it out.
Although some say they got it to work, I couldn't get the directions in your thread to work properly on linux. If you are rooting via linux sbf_flash is by far the easiest.... maybe someone should do a quick write up....

Ahh sorry, that was my bad. I forgot the Superoneclick needs a Windows based computer.
Can you get to a PC that runs Windows? The process is very quick and easy, it would not take you long at all.
Soup for root beta it really works

Where can I find step-by step instructions to returning the phone to a clean slate, with the stock image on a Sprint Hero. I have found many references searching for the info, but cant find an easy to use step by step guide. Thanks!
I am looking for a way that would achieve this, if it were a windows computer.. format the disk, reinstall Win7, and then add the applications.

I believe you need the Sprint Software package. It can be downloaded at the following link.
http://shop2.sprint.com/en/software_downloads/pda_smartphone/htc_hero.shtml
It is an .exe file, and I believe you just run it on your PC and it will install the stock software using HTC Sync. I haven't tried this, but this is the information I came across while looking to first root my Hero. This will also unRoot your phone so if you need it rooted you will have to do it over.
Hi there I've got and given some help over in the Acer Iconia A500 forum and now i'm hoping I can receive some over here.
I've always just had the stock version of Android on my Nexus, and now that it looks like it's not going to be updated again I'm ready to Root and Rom.
I'm especially looking forward to pushing a bunch of apps over to the SD card (I'm constantly battling the low memory warning)
There is a lot of information out there on rooting this phone but unfortunately most of it seems a bit dated when I look at the posts. most of it seems to be pre-gingerbread.
So, if I have a stock 2.3.6 GRK39F build, how do I start out?
So far form the Wiki I've managed to get the ADB working and USB drivers (Win 7) installed and have my device acknowledged.
From the wiki I've managed to Unlock the boot loader, and wiped my phone :-(
Now what? what is the next step??
Since I've unlocked the boot loader can I now DL cyanogenmod and install it?
or is there more to do?
What's the diffidence between root and unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks for the help guys. I'm sure this is all easy for you now.
-Ozy
After unlocking the bootloader install a custom recovery.
Either CWM or Amon Ra your choice.
Look here (scroll down to "Installing a Custom Recovery Image")

Thanks for the help guys I will try it out and let you know how it goes.
Follow up question. I just unlocked the boot loader so I know I don't have root access.
After I flash cyanogen will i have root access by virtue of running that ROM?
Yes once you flash cm7 you'll have root access.
OK guys I did it. I got stuck on booting into clockwork for a while. couldn't figure it out then eventually did.
followed all the instructions on
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide
and got it to work.
Thanks guys!
Ok, I hit a snag.
After installing CM7 I notice that there is no Google voice search on the main search box and no Voice to text in the messaging app? where to find / install google voice search/ voice to text?
U have to download VOICE SEARCH app from market for that feature to work

Help another noob...
I found this thread while trying to make sure I have the most up-to-date links for rooting my new Nexus One, 2.3.6, and GRK39F.
Considering this thread is over a year old, and I wasn't sure what wiki the original poster was referring to, I thought would post to see if there are new developments to rooting my N1...
I'm posting this from xp with google usb ver7 drivers installed through sdk. I also have Windows 7 if I have to use that laptop.
I managed to flash my wife's Stratosphere, but this is really pushing my tech limits....
Thanks!

Read the Nexus One Wiki in this Q&A so you can get a sense of the overall process and then proceed to work on your phone. I recommend that you search rooting process for Nexus One on youtube once you have finished reading the wiki.

I'm glad I rooted and ran CM7 when I did, because about a week after I did all the work my power button crapped out and if not for CM7 and it's "push track ball to wake" feature I would have been SOL.
I haven't gone back to check the links that I used but I know that they worked for me. Good luck mate.
PS I managed to eek another 6 months of use out of my device before retiring it and getting a G Nexus.
Thank you for your responses. Yesterday, I tried rooting without unlocking the bootloader, and it seemed like everything performed as expected, but several apps that require rooting said that my N1 is not rooted. So, I tried rooting, but I'm only getting "Waiting for device." I open the command prompt from the Platform-tools folder, SDK shows that I have the necessary drivers installed...
I'll go back and read the Wiki as suggested, and see what I can learn.
Thanks, again!
I have a question. Can the sdk link from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690362 be used for rooting? Because it says it's an old archived version. So will it still work?

I have an AT&T Note 3 and I am EXTREMELY interested in rooting. At this point, I know Im going to do it with towelroot. I'm not too sure what to do after that. Im sure this question has been posted before on this forum. (I'm new to it all) I just need a simple step by step guide on what to do after rooting. I've done the research with the pros and cons about it and I'm willing to learn more. But I have to start somewhere. Any and all help is welcomed. Thanks.

What I meant when I said step by step is, what's the very next step after rooting? Also, how to flash roms? I'm working with a mac and I can't find one YouTube video that shows how to install the rom in a mac then get it on my Note 3. Sorry if it sounds confusing. I'm so new to all of this.
PC is unneeded assuming you don't mess up, step one towel root step two install safestrap.
Step 3 Google YouTube safe strap note3 tutorial. Your done.

Towelroot and safestrap are two apps. You can have root and safestrap installed in less than 2 minutes, not hard
Use sprint

Once you have downloaded the rom you want, either transfer the rom directly to your sd card using an adapter. You can also hook the phone up to your mac using the usb and download Android file transfer for mac to move the rom form your mac to your phones sd card. Now just go to any rom you choose and read their instructions carefully before your ready to install. I used the firekat v10 rom for the att samsung gn3 and it runs great. Hope that helps some.
