[Q] Unlocking bootloader - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
Have a rooted Sony X8 with Ginger DX installed. Like to flash the kernel with custom ROM to make it quicker and then also Ginger DX.
From what I understand in different threats I need first to unlock the bootloader. I understand that I need to flash first the Stock ROM and then to unlock bootloader. I downloaded the stock ROM *.ftf and used FlashTool (for Mac!).
But unfortunately I get some error messages. I already posted this at the end of another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41081576#post41081576) but are stuck.
The error messages are:

Anybody suggestions on how to proceed?

Hey there,
I'm not sure about Mac but I think you might have a corrupt download of the stock ftf file.
Do an md5 checksum on the file and check it with the original - If they match, it's good - if not, delete it and re-download the ftf.
Good luck.

Mine
exec'/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or dirrctory
can anyone solve this ?

What is the best place to get the ftf with md5 checksum provided??
http://www.mediafire.com/?r9rq43u8rp4esl4 but checksum
http://hotfile.com/dl/128941602/d01b6c1/X8_E15i_2.1.1.C.0.0._un.ftf.html also no checksum
PS @phycro.sync your comments do not relate to my problem??? You are now mixing up things. Please start a separate threat that makes thing more clear.

Downloaded tft twice again and also FlashTool. Tried it several times, other USB cable.
Same problem. Process wait long before: Opening device for R/W and then give the other messages quickly.
Is there another tool to flash?

i honestly don't know how it works on mac but... are you sure you have the necessary drivers? the last post looks fine to me, unless i missed something.
or use a dfferent version of flashtool?
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.

When I open the application and go to drivers there are no files. Under devices E15 is mentioned (=SE X8).
See below. I guess that if a driver or something else is missing Flashtool would indicate it.
Are there alternative flashtools?

No difference with Mac and Windows. Do I need to root the phone first to unlock bootloader?
When I started I was able to select my phone under plugins (see post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41046260&postcount=26

Custom kernel
Well its just tried and tested really, e.g. I have tried several times to install and 'accidentally' successful to install custom kernels. But I think first n foremost pls consider to do FULL WIPE (I even wipe Dalvik's, data and battery cache) so it will not conflicted with previous data. and better success too oh yeah just ignore note about debugging mode, its just for 2011 line of Xperia phones
did u turn off the phone before flashing?
Turn Off the phone n press back button before connecting ur phone.

Ok, now try this: In settings, turn on usb debugging and unknown sources. Now open Flashtool WITHOUT connecting your phone to PC. In Flashtool: click Flash, select nAa-11 etc.ftf, click ok. It will be say: Connect device in flash mode--> turn off the phone, wait 5 seconds, press and hold back button, attach phone. When the green led appears, release back button. Flashtool will flash the kernel. If not, try re-downloading kernel file or reinstall Flashtool.

yes,,i agree with lanjor..
if flashtool say the phone connected,,means the phone usb is attached to comp..
but it doesnt mean that the phone is on..
if the phone off,,flashtool also say device connected too..
oke,,its not the answer for mkayik's question..
so ill cut it off..

First select the kernel , then you see two files at the right .
Click the "kernel.sin" file and then flash.

If you did unlocked bootloader then:
1.Maybe your nAa isn't ok.....try to change it
2.Check baseband number...it must end wit 015
3If all of the above is good then re-flash/flash stock rom........root......unlock bootloader........re-flash kernel
****WARNING****

Okay....i have managed to read form log that you are using STOCK ROM
STOCK ROM is not compactible with nAa-jb-05 or any other CUSTOM KERNEL
YOU NEED TO DO NEXT:
1.FLASH KERNEL(you did this already)
2.FLASH CUSTOM ROM
do you understand or I need to write instructions how to do it?

1) there is already a thread on this.
2) One way to go back is to restore the backup you should have made before flashing a custom rom.
3) Try relocking your bootloader and flashing the ftf. Or flash a stock V kernel and then flash the ftf.
Let me know how you get on
