Did you try playing with the GPU rendering?
Settings - Developer options - Force GPU rendering (actually all options under Drawing can cause problems if they are not set properly.
Do you use any specific kernel or you always stay with stock one? Have you tried SlimBean ROM?
edit: after checking pics again, I see that you have glitches even in recovery  I would say it could be a HW problem, broken cable or something like that. Flashing custom roms and the broking of cable at the same time can be a serious coincidence (or have you tried going back to stock 2.3.6?)

Stock 2.3.6 works fine so I think there is no problem with the LCD at all.
Cyanogenmod with ClockworkMod kernel turns the screen pink, but then I flash stock rom 2.3.6 with stock kernel and everything is fine.
I've tried flashing other roms like MIUI with Kernel Mackay CMC and it turns the screen pink as well.
Something in the custom kernels is not working on my device.

[Q] Dead spot on touch screen??? Can't type "P" alphabet on keyboard!!

Hello,
I've very weird problem. I can't type right upper most alphabet on keyboard (ie "P" or "З" in russian). If I type "P", it shows "O".
I've tried other keyboards like swiftkey 3 , iTap keyboard but it's the same. can't type the alphabet "P".
I've also tried full wipe and flashing again. formatting SD card. but no luck.
I've tried re-calibrating keyboard in input setting. but it works for a few times. now i'ts not working again. When I type "P", it shows up "O"
Anyone ever had that kind of issue? software related ? hardware problem?
ံHow can I fix it, please?
I've tried in developer options and enable "show touches" and pointer location". But it doesn't fix anything. It just shows where I touch. No touch shows when I type "P" or sometimes appears "O" (nearest one).
Seriously, guys... I can't type "P" alphabet.
Is that possible that a tiny particular part of display screen is dead????
Help me, please.
Any suggestions or help would be very appreciated.

I first noticed on Nik's rom 4.0. so I wiped everything and flashed again (nik's rom 4.1). But it doesn't go away.
So, I changed back to ARHD but still unsolved. so, practically it happens in all roms.
That particular part of touch screen around "P" or "0" is dead?
hoping any solution urgently!! can't use daily apps without "P" or "0".

Try cm7. There's a dev tools app on it that can show you pointer location. Might be the 2 roms (both sense ics) you tried have screen or keyboard alignment issues.

Not CM roms. Without sense they are usually around 90 MB.
Chk out the list of roms from their page.

CM 7 ROMs are very small in size compared with other ROMs
Its the sense ROMs and all the bloat that builds up
About the keyboard, its been happening on every ICS ROM with the HTC 3.0.16 kernel, so I'm not sure if its actually linked to that..

Yeah I notice this issue too on UKB Evolution. Normally on the A or P keys. It might just be my finger. Works a lot better when I try to type slower though. Might just be phone lag.

I also have a similar issue, but on "A, O, H" and delete key (ICS stock keyboard).
I've tried CM7, Nik's v4/v4.1 ROM, Virtuous Quattro and the issue exists on all ROMs. It starts when the screen dims/sleeps with the keyboard open.
I've tried MIUI and the issue is somewhat tolerable, it rarely happens and turning or and on the screen fixes it right away, unlike in other ROMS
I've tried other kb apps and it still persists. Also, it happens both on portrait and landscape mode.

Have you tried MIUI 2.8.10 or higher? In MIUI it's almost non-existent for me. So I'm sticking with this ROM for now, until it's fixed. As much as I love Nik's ROM, it really annoys me when my keyboard becomes laggy and unresponsive when I type.
If nothing works you can try a radical method - run a ruu

CM9 rc3 seems to be stable although wifi connection seems to be a bit weak.
Will flash again CM9rc4 these days to exclude the flashing was maybe improper.

Have u tried jellybean yet?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium HD app
I had the same problem.
However, Doomsday provided a modified and updated kernel some days ago. I've been using that one for a while and I don't remember having many problems since. This is the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37952778&postcount=3555 Hope it helps!
Also, MIsterLemons has just released an updated kernel based on arco's sources which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38059967&postcount=3575, I haven't tested that one (I rather like doomsday's additions) but his kernel might just fix your issues as well without diverging from arco's builds.
EDIT: it appears I had been lucky. I've just had 2 random shutdowns in 5 minutes using Doomsday's kernel...

[Q] Jelly Bean 4.1.2 hangs a lot!

Hey guys
I am running JB 4.1.2 on my Galaxy S Advance. First I was really pleased about the new functions, the additional speed and the new the design.
( I was running 2.3.6)
But now my mobile hangs a lot, if I'm watching videos, playing music or if I just go on facebook.
I've used the instructions of this video and I've done exactly the same as showed. /watch?v=2W2NVfGJ0Cc
Do you have any ideas, how I can speed up my phone?
Maybe with an other kernel, an other ROM or something like that.
Greetings from Switzerland!

i am using stock rom XXLQ4 with cocore 3.3 kernel and no frills config: governor-pegasusq and i/o-sio
still if u feel the phone lags which i dont think it will, u can enable forced gpu rendering in developer options, although u may experience screen flickering.
try Thunderzap 4.1 kernel and wipe cache/dalvik. See if there's any difference. It worked for me.
my phone also hangs quite a lot, a few times a day when i want to unlock my phone it just shows the last used app (be it the launcher or any other app) and doesn't respond except for the power button. when i press the power button the screen locks, but when pressing again it's still frozen.

does cm 10.1 have a better battery life than cm 10.2? cause in cm 10.2 it was quite terrible, only about half a day with wifi off (i never use data connection, always turn that of ) and in standby most of the time.

i think i'm gonna try that one for a day or so, see if the battery life is indeed better than cm 10.2.
only downside other than that is the high vibration strength, is there anyway to lower that? (only for buttons and certain onscreen things)
and is there much difference in battery life between 10.2 and 10.1?
edit- just installed it, but wifi always takes about 2 minutes to turn on, so i'm back to stock based

If you haven't done yet, root your phone. Then flash a custom recovery. CWM or TWRP. Then flash a custom kernel or a custom rom.
I think the Jelly Bean stock-rom isn't recommended for this phone. It didn't use to lag, when I used Gingerbread 2.3. After flashing Jelly Bean it hanged a lot!
Now, i rooted it, installed CWM and the custom rom Pure Vanilla. It doesnt lag anymore!

Random reboots into recovery

Hello xda
I know there quite a few posts out there with people detailing their phones rebooting randomly but my phone just hit a new level of weird.
My i9000 reboots randomly into cwm recovery menu for no good reason (I know there is another thread about this but that instance is on the Nexus S and the thread has basically died). This started occurring shortly after I flashed slim ROM 4.2.2 build 5 (came from CM10.1 nightlies). Flashing the rom again and updating it to build 6 has done nothing to alleviate the issue.
I'm using the Semaphore kernel with no OC or changed settings, and having recently bought a new battery, I'm really not sure where to start looking for the problem.
If anyone can give me some tips it'd be greatly appreciate, thanks in advance.

hi
randomly i will got this problem if i m flashing backward. like from 4.2.2 - 4.2.1, or 4.1.x to 4.0.x. or repeatedly changing between kernel (i always do this to modified ROM to suits my settings n need) its probably due to changing partition in system or kernel clash (even i did all wipe) in internalsd.
Sorry to say. it will come worst sometimes if u ignore da problem or keep flashing ROM to avoid it. 'Luckily' about 2 hour ago my sgs just did. Constantly booting to recovery n its juz bootloop between kernel splashscreen n sgs white splashscreen after it.3 combo button will not working for recovery n only download mode accessible.
no more method for me . Juz flashing back to stock firmware JVU +CF-ROOT with odin was da answers
but if u dont familiar with odin.seek guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149455
but use it as ur last method!
clashing between titan.....no! kernel maybe da reason.do some wiping before changing kernel or ROM. n format system if necessary before flashing!

Reboots into CMW with Slim Bean 4.3 and Semaphore
Hi guys, any news on the subject? Exactly the same thing happening to me. I did a clean installation of Slim 4.3, after using CM10 and everything seems to be working perfectly except it reboots into CWM every 1-2h!!! I haven't changed any configuration and didn't mess with the kernel that came with the ROM, which is Semaphore... Is it a kernel issue? Should I try to flash the latest version?

I run into the same problem with my current update of my I9000 to CM 10.2.1 and the Semaphore Kernel 3.3.0 (JB).
Any ideas on this issue from the pros?
I realized that it was happening to me only when I was loosing the network coverage, like being in the underground or roaming or things like that... I don't know if it happens to everyone but in my case it's definitely this. If there is no network available my phone will boot into recovery after a while. If the signal is OK, it doesn't happen. Maybe it has something to do with the modem?!

I don't know if it happens to everyone but in my case it's definitely this. If there is no network available my phone will boot into recovery after a while. If the signal is OK, it doesn't happen. Maybe it has something to do with the modem?!

Deactivate Deepidle in Semaphore manager app and these reboots should be gone.
Did the trick for me.

Display flickers after updating to android 4.2.2

hi all, just a question to find others who are experiencing the same problem.
After updating (tried almost everything) to 4.2.2 i am having problems with my display. It is flickering. Especially in grey areas, but it is there on the the complete display. On every 4.2.2 rom this will appear eventually.
I've tried the stock rom, CM roms, FreeXperia roms, some others custom roms like RomAur 7.2, tried different kernels.
It's like the refresh rate is too low. like 30 or 40 fps. Or the refresh rate is not in sync with the screen updates. It is not there all the time and sometimes it is less visible. But it is there for sure.
Other people have the same issue??

me too ....:crying:
I have the same. Noticed it today for the first time.
When I turn off the backlight is seems to stop, so I think it's more the lighting than the screen.
I hope it's a software issue and it gets fixed soon!

+1 :good:
This is the first thing I noticed after installing 4.2.2. Currently I have a stock non-rooted rom.
I believe the problem is related to the background illumination, because when putting my finger onto the light-sensor, I can see how the screen darkens where the flicking is strongly visible. I looks like the illumination-level is not adjusted smoothly but rather coarse steps. Quite annoying...

Thnx for this answer, ofcourse. I tried this several times. Now, i started completely from the beginning (ALL steps as written @ RomAur v7.2 rom) and the flickering was there again. I've changed some stuff inside dev options and it seems gone. Really don't know what i did. Disabled 2d gpu, enabled hw layer, disabled this again, enabled 2d gpu etc etc etc....it seems gone...really weird..i will keep this thread open for others and if something changes, i will write it here ofcourse!:good:
i have it when i use facebook i dont know if this was also on the leaked 4.2.2 but the official one has this issue meanwhile the battery issue. sony is sleeping maybe
Current settings dev options(flickering seems "as gone as possible):
-usb-debugging on
-verify apps over usb on
-show hardware layers updates on
-force gpu rendering on
-force 4x msaa on
the rest is off
i am using RomAur v7.2 with the DooMKernel v9
Performance control settings:
-max 1620 MHz (set on boot)
-min 192 MHz (set on boot)
-Gov interactive (set on boot)
-IO deadline (set on boot)
-sd read ahead 256 kb (set on boot)
-vm settings (set on boot)
maybe this will help other people as well?? please, let me know

I just got it flickering too. For now it only happened in the movies app or when playing a video from Facebook for example. Only the lower side of te screen flickers. Also, when pushing on the screen the flickering stops for a while!

Any workarounds for this? I'm facing the same problem too. It's annoying.
I had the same issue a few days ago and it has seemed to go away after what I did, not saying it will not come back.
1.) Made a nandroid backup of my system, using ExistenZ v4 rom as my rom
2.) Flashed my country specific FTF, using flashtool, rom downloaded from Sony Update Service. I went all the way back to .434
3.) Rooted and then added recovery to my stock rom
4.) Flashed the .423 kernel only in flashtool
5.) Booted into CWM and restored my backup of my original rom
6.) Booted back into rom to make sure everything came back
7.) Flashed baseband from my country specific FTF
I have not seen any flickering for about 2-3 days now. Hoping it will stay way this time.

turned security off
Turning security off (was using facial recognition) made my screen flickering go away. 2 days and counting. YMMV
