I know it's a Jelly Bean issue/feature, but I really miss the ability (coming from an S3) to alter the volume of notifications and ringtones separately. Basically I want to use some sort of app to turn on quiet times where I can still get ringing on calls, but messages emails ect do not make a sound. Is there a ROM or app available to get this to work? If not I guess I set notification sound to NONE 24x7
Try Llama in the Play Store.

+1 on this.....
I actually use llama and was configuring today, but it gave me an error noting the inability to separate ringtone and notification volume. Is there a solution to this?
To note, it's not a JB thing...my co worker's S4 can easily separate it.
I use this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=Orion.Soft works for me (free version
Or this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=opotech.finevolumev2 but you have to paid for it.

So while im toying around with my One at work, I dont want my boss to hear my messages, notifications etc etc. So I put it on Silent, however some apps like whatsapp and other still vibrate. Ive gone through keyboard settings and disabled what I can through the power menus (im on vipers rom) but still no luck. Vibrate would usually be fine, but this things vibratration even gets my co-worker excited so i need to put a lid on it.
How about checking each particular app's settings and look at it's notification options? I recall some apps having a "vibrate" option of "never", "always" or "only in silent mode".
If you're set to that third type, it could be sneaking in the vibration on you that way.
Thanks... Toyed around with that. Down to two apps with no notification settings. There is pro upgrades so that might solve it. For now I just won't leave it on the table

Thinking of getting either the Galaxy gear or pebble smartwatch for my note 3 and I hope someone can clarify some questions I have:
1. You have to swipe left and right to toggle through the app selection right? Is there a way to disable some of the apps to make them not appear when you're swiping? I don't normally use voice memo, svoice or gallery.
2. When playing music and the display of the gear turns off and you activate it again, will music toggle show on the home page / lock screen or do you have to swipe left/right a few times again to get to music control?
3. I understand the gear syncs with your phone, does that mean all read sms via the gear will also be marked as read on the phone? After you read the sms on your gear does it disappear or can you still access everything through the watch?
4. Is it annoying to have to flick your wrist everytime you wanna check the time?
5. Can you customize which apps you want sound / vibrate notifications from? Like sound only when getting sms and vibrate only when receiving phone calls?
I'm planning on using the gear while out jogging to easily switch music tracks, do you think it can withstand heavy sweat and a little shock?
Thanks

1. Yes. You can use the gear manager to disable/enable which app you wanna show/hide
2. you have to swipe back again since the screen will turn on with default watch face
3. I use Chomp SMS so I can't comment on this. With Chomp, it won't dismiss on the phone even after you read on the watch or vice versa it won't dismiss on the watch even after you read on the phone.
4. Nope. it becomes second nature for me.
5. no you can't specify individual app control notification. You can choose sound, vibrate, both or silent.
Shock shouldn't be a problem. But sweat is the problem. What other members have done is wear a wrist sweat band and then wear the watch on top of it to protect.
Hope this helps.

1. Yes, the apps you see are favourites and you can configure in Gear Manager
2. There is a music control app on the Gear. You would need to change option in settings to display last viewed screen (instead of main screen)
3. Can't remember as currently using unsupported phone. I think the answer is yes though for some notifications
4. It comes naturally
5. No
I've found sweat doesn't affect mine, but others say it can get in the little hole behind the camera and fog up lens (it goes away and doesn't affect the physical camera)
Thank you for responding to my queries.
So there's no way to incorporate music control while playing music on the home screen /watch face?
I plan on getting the gear primarily to answer phone calls while driving and controlling media while working out. Very disappointing
Are you satisfied with yours?

What do you mean? It works the way it seems you want it to
http://ukm.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/...amsung-Galaxy-Gear-Black-Media-Controller.jpg
(but when playing/paused; background is cover and song title/artist appear at top of screen)
It is a million times better (and useful) than my Pebble - apart from the fact I need phone/rom with TouchWiz for full use (notifications, weather)
I want to be able to control my music instantly when I flick my wrist while something is playing, is this possible? Similar to the music control on our phones lock screen

Well, mine is set so that when I use motion to turn on (flick wrist) the last used screen comes on - just need to make sure that I opened media control initially
Can't do anything with playlists
You can try setting up Tasker profiles for anything more advanced

Yeah I won't be needing the players. Just the basics
Thank you for the input guys, seems like I haven't met anyone who didn't enjoy their gears.
Are SMS and call logs stored on the watch or are they instantly deleted once you dismiss the notification

As long as the phone is connected to the gear, any notifications it receives are archived (ie if you receive messages while not connected, the gear knows nothing about them). You can manually delete from archive
I think that notifications delete themselves after a while, as far as I can see they only seem to stay for around 2 days, which is fine

I know emails will be marked read when they are viewed on the gear, not sure about SMS messages, cant rememeber.
Also a nice thing is when you get a message and you are looking at it on the gear, if you pick up your phone it automatically goes right to that message without having to do anything on the phone.

Is this the smart relay feature? I can't seem to get it to work. The only way I can do it is to hit 'show on device' on the gear.

But if you read an SMS from your gear it automatically gets marked as read on ur note right?
hello, my Moto G makes a loud sound on some apps like calls and texting, but apps such as facebook messenger, whatsapp and facebook app make a really really low sound? anybody know how to fix this?
Same here. I think that phone recognizes facebook messenger sound as ringing tone instead of notification tone. Ringing tones start really quietly, and after a secont they get loud. The thing is that facebook messenger notification last very short it never gets a chance to get loud.

Raised the same issue on Motorola Forums. Waiting for test results from their lab. I tried with non-system sounds (.mp3 & MIDI Sequence Formats) as ringtones, alarm tones, notification tones & it didn't work with either system apps or 3rd party apps.
After some R&D at my end, I realized that it was happening as I was using low bit rate files. Files with higher bit rate (192, 320 kbps...) played loud n clear as system sounds, but the problem still remains with 3rd party apps like watsapp etc...

That's great. Please inform us as soon as Motorola provide you with some new information. Testing shouldn't take too long because it is obvious that the problem is general.

I'm also the same problem, I hope that fix this soon.
Any news on this? Facebook notifications are really low!!?
Please
No one!!
Hello
this free app helped me to fix this bug: - Disable Increasing Ring
Just edit the sound files and make the loud sounds lower (Like in Audacity.) . Yes this is a time consuming option. But it leads to a permanent fix. But the loud sounds with be low and so it equalizes with facebook messenger sounds etc.
Low notification volume
This is really bugging me now , Audacity fix doesnt really solve the problem , you just end up with a very distorted sounding tone . Although notifications are ok through my bluetooth speakers
possible fix
Ok its not a fix of sorts , it seems the apps notification tone gradually increases in volume , but with a short tone of say 2 seconds the tone has finished before it reaches a level that you can hear it . Try a tone of at least six seconds , you should hear at least 3 seconds at full volume .

Has that worked for anyone else ??
It's annoying.
I can't barely hear any notification.
Have someone managed to fix this??
Found a fix for this if you are rooted. Worked great for me to fix this bug http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/mod-disable-ascending-ringtone-t3218683
I have been an android user for a long time, but this one is stumping me as there is no process or specific error. I have searched and haven't found anyone with a similar problem. Just got a Nexus 6 today and it will not make any notification sounds. The notification volume is all the way up and phone calls have a ringtone that works. What is really throwing me off is that when I am in the general settings or the settings for any other app, clicking on a notification sound has no response. I will be in settings and overlooking the list of potential default notification sounds and no matter which one I click there is no noise, as where with the ringtones they all will play me the sample.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it, I hate that something this simple has stumped me somehow.
Thank you.
this happens with my alarm sound in the settings. it just won't play it, even though its a google sound. but, when its needed, like when my alarm goes off, it sounds. and that's what is really important. so I ignore the fact that it doesn't play in settings anymore (it used to though).

If that were the case I could deal with it but it won't even make a sound when its supposed to.

try using an app to set a notification sound, maybe that will work.
This happened to me running Pure Nexus, reboot fixed the issue. Still not sure why it didn't work in the first place

For some ungodly reason Pandora makes a notification sound everytime it changes songs. I haven't tested this with other music apps yet. Is there no longer a way to silence notifications in Pie / One UI?
This is nuts

Obviously I tried that first. Only options are to turn notifications off which I don't want to do. I just don't want to hear Pandora notifications.
Figured it out. Either Android or Samsung or Pandora makes it difficult. There are some things that should be blantantly obvious to some of these app developers on what should be silent or not as a notification by default. This should be built into the app. If it is controlled entirely by Android, and outside of dev hands, then they need to rethink this approach ASAP.
