How do you remove 'system' apps? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to use with varying degrees of success TB to freeze or even uninstall stuff.
I 'uninstalled' the other day g+, Facebook, and other similar things, they are back..
Might it be the TB doesn't work on this device?
Thanks

You have to flash a kernel that supports write access to the system partition, or create a flashable zip to remove the systems apps, or.remove.them via adb.
The stock kernel doesnt support write access so any changes you make are reverted on reboot.

Great, thanks!
I think I have heard this one awhile ago, forgot about it.
I would like to keep it close to stock, is there a kernel that, say, only grants the write access to system?

Just rooted, Now what?

This is the first time I have ever been near or used an Android phone. I got my i9000 a few days ago and have started messing about with widgets etc. I have been reading this forum for a few months prior to owning an Android phone as technology interests me. I was following a home screen thread and realized I had to root my Galaxy S to be able to take screenshots. Then I found the One Click Lag Fix app that was on the Android market. The lag was something that was really bothering me and now its running really smooth.
So now I have root what else should I do to my phone?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
A couple apps I use that need root access: mybackup pro and root explorer.
Have fun
I'll be sure to check them out. Anyone else?

Flash roms, overclock cpu, clear app caches. Modify system apps (eg make browser fullscreen).
Anything really.
Clocksync - if cell-network time sync sucks.
MarketAccess - if you can't purchase apps on market
Autokiller or Minfree manager - to keep memory tidy (less necessary on the most recent firmwares)
Screenshot - should be obvious.

1. Why uninstall? Never uninstall system apps if not sure it will work. There are apps that can freeze apps, then simply unfreeze if needed. Titanium backup can do this and much more like backup.
2. Don't know, never used launcher pro, xperia launcher are the best Imo
3. Choose yes to use wifi, and use an app to set it to use in eg Europe, Japan or wherever....search in xda for like gps faster fix.
As for 1 there's also a list on the web stating which system apps can be deleted or not. You risk fc and apps mot working properly as they depend on another, easy freezy are also an app to use for freezing apps
Easiest for you would be to install a custom rom, you need clockwork mod recovery and root then. Pm me if you need a guide
Thanks for the sugestion now i have reinstalled messaging app and disable it using root app delete
Now want one more thing to ask
Can i freeze the system app like
Lg home(i am using launcher pro)
Browser (using dolphin)
Hidden menu-use it very rarely
Rsstarter- don't know what is this for !!
Plz reply
Thanks once again

I'd advice you to keep from freezing / uninstalling apps if you don't know what they're for. It's not like you will get a huge performance improvement if you delete these, so I'd let them be.
You can freeze the LG launcher (or uninstall it if you want) as long as you have another launcher installed. This is required, otherwise you're in for disaster.
Thanks for a very quick reply
Just wanted to say after freezing some of the apps that i donf use i got a very good ram space and i feel that my device is now working much faster
Now what about freezing browser and lge hidden menu

It's for the Remote Screen service. If you don't use it, you don't need rsstarter. I removed it with no evident side effects.
BTW, thanks to SuperSkill I learned something new -- I didn't understand before what exactly "freezing" meant...

why the hell would he do that? factory reset would be an absolute last resort.... and i have no idea why the hell you think installing apex would help him?
OP do you have google now enabled?
first thing i would do is disable data and disconnect wifi - make sure it is an app trying to fetch data that is causing the problem, if that turns out to be the case then simply stop all apps from syncing automatically and reenable a few at a time until you capture the problem one.
check out whether your GPS is being used too - google now would use your location and fetch data a lot, my money is on it.

You cant do that, removing system applications require root.
Depends what bloat you're talking about? There really isn't much on there to be honest.
Figured as much, I just remember when I got my One there was something like 4-5 gbs already taken up.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
You can't remove em without root, but you can disable many of them. I have about 15 apps that came pre installed that I won't use (mostly carrier crap, and stuff like Google Magazine, books, etc..)
Go to settings - > apps - > all, then select disable if it isn't grayed out...
A lot of the HTC apps can't be disabled, but whatever can is worth it
Pretty much like freezing.. You still have the apps taking space, but they won't run and will disappear from your app drawer!

i assume your talking about the 6.9ish gb that comes used up from when you first turned on the phone? that section is mostly a system partition used up by the android OS system. I'm not too versed in this but its pretty much neccessary. how large does that section have to be now that i'm not too sure. but every sense version i've ran on here custom 1.29 has pretty much the same size for that partition.
the best way without root is to disable the apps, as WolfDale7 mentioned.
Awesome, thanks for all the responses and help everybody!

Most recent version is 6.14.3 from Feb 20, 2013
This version is still the 'old' style, but the most updated version of it. 6.9.0 was from June 27, 2012, whereas the 6.14.3 build was from February 20, 2013. From the same website you posted just a different link http://www.androiddrawer.com/9559/download-maps-6-14-3-app-apk/
I have 6.14.4 in a Titanium Backup set. That was the last version I got from Google Play before the crap versions hit my phone. I'll try to find somewhere to upload it.

it's not a crappy app =/
the problem it's adreno libs, try to use nokia here.com in the browser and you will see artifacts.. we can't use the new adreno libs because it's needed a new kernel supporting ION memory manager.. actually android 4.2 is running using legacy support for adreno in the kernel, it happened to every phone using adreno 205..

How to prevent MAPS from auto updating
You can prevent Google Maps from updating to the new, crappy version by selecting it in Titanium Backup. When the window opens with Backup! Freeze! Un-instal! showing at the top, swipe to the left to bring up the SPECIAL FEATURES window, and in that window select Detach from Market under the Playstore/Market heading.
Voila. Even if you are set up for auto updates to all your other apps, Google will not auto update your Maps app after you have done this.
I've tried that. Works fine.....
Until you reboot. Then it's re-attached to the Play Store.

Could something else be making it show back up in the updates after a reboot? I always turn off auto update in the play store right after it's loaded on a new rom install.
After I detach from market it won't show in updates, buy shows up again after a reboot.

have you tried turning off update notification?
Not sure how that will help?
Notifications don't include it before the reboot, do after.
And whether or not notifications are enabled, the update shows back up when I go into play store after a reboot.
What I would prefer is a permanent detach, one that survives reboots. Is it possible?
