Camera settings - what is the best? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I am wondering what settings you all prefer using with the camera.
I am on normal mode, 9 megapixel (16:9).
Does the ppicture quality get a little better with 12megapixel (4:3)? Don't see any difference..
So what settings are you guys on?

We can't tell you our settings, cause it's a secret!
No... it purely depends on the conditions. We can tell you that for example superior mode is the best, wouldn't it be that you want to take a night shot, then Normal mode HDR would be better.
I'd say play with the settings and you decide.
I use normal mode HDR: off most of the times.
Sometimes burst.

Haha
I see. Don't see any difference when changing from many different setting. Only noticeable is changing from 9 mp to 12 mp. That is the format size. My eyes are so bad at noticing any difference what so ever.

Video recording autofocus?

Is there any way to enable autofocus in video recording(camera app/kernel/rom changes)? I think hardware is capable because it can autofocus when taking pictures and that only software is limiting it. Any suggestions?

Atm i dont think we are able to auto focus in video recording.

Yes, i know that, i just wondered is there anything we can do to make it work.

Use lgCamera, but be careful with the bitrate setting. The focus won't be automatic, but it will be touch focus.

Samsung didn''t put many things on the stock ROM... not buying my next phone from them, unless I have the money for a flagship.
Anyway, remember, be very careful with the video bitrate setting as phones tend to choke on big videos... even OG S3 skipped frames on me on a 20 Mbps video.

Sony Z - video - Camera Zoom Stutter/Judder

When I'm recording some fairly high speed 1080 video on my projector screen (say if I record a replay from my PS3 game F1 2012) the Sony Z camera Zoom seems to focus, refocus, focus, refocus all the bl00dy time. As a result the video ends up either a) blurry, or b) is filled with stutter/juddering crap...
Is there any way to fix this?????????????
I had it on 434 firmware, and still exists on the 253..
Change the focus mode ?

I wonder why the Sony Z needs the room well lit? My Projector is ultra bright and I'm close to the screen.
I changed the focus mode from face detect to fixed point and still does it..
None of my previous phones (HTC One X, iPhone 4S, SGS3, or Razr HD have done this.. Seems very strange IMO.
I'll post up a video on youtube tonight to demonstrate what is happening

Tap on focus, disable by default
You need to turn on from camera setting
Is there any dirt on your lense? This may be the cause of the lack of focus

I guess so. But I have already got through out the all settings I think, but I did not see anything looking even a little close to this feature switch. Can you please tell me where to find it? Thanks.

Hmm. This is not a touch focus. It's a take a shot on viewport touch. And it focuses automaticaly on whatever it desides. The touch focuse used to show a yellow square under the finger and didn't make a shot until you press the button.

No. The problem is in app - it behaves differently from what I got used to. Thanks.

Alternative camera app

I'm really not liking the camera app Sony has provided for this otherwise spectacular camera. Has anyone else managed to find a better app for this phone?

FX Camera and Camera Zoom FX are different apps...
The Focal Beta does look quite good as well, can't say anything about picture quality yet.
It can be downloaded directly from the playstore!
Perfectly Clear works perfect .
Fotor, once my favourite, crashes on Z1.
Depends on preferences:
Camera FV-5 is pretty advanced and nice
Focal has good potential and looks nice
Procam is working fine...
Wish SuperCamera was working properly, older version does start but the settings don't seem to always do much...

[Q] Does anyone know how to take Macro picture ?

I tried to take a macro-focus picture with Z1, but it seems there is not macro mode in camera option. Any idea guys?
Change the resolution to 8mp. It won't display any mode at 20 mp.

Yes, but superior auto loses a considerable amount of detail and quality (it unnecessarily increases the iso)
for better results you can use the food options or you can deactivate the scenes, using lowest iso values and (in good light conditions) decreasing exposure level
Try using 8mp manual mode with touch focus option.. It will help..
