[Q] Systemui.apk? - Motorola Droid Bionic

Okay, so I have a number of questions here.
First, how do i get the Systemui.apk for my Bionic running 4.1.2?
Would that be different on my safe side running cm10.1 RC 2?
Lastly i'm going through all this to theme my notification pull down background as I said in a earlier post, so is there no easier way?
I have been going through a lot of old posts and am weary of following old instructions for ice cream etc,

(REQ) Metamorph themes that do not require CM!

hi all I'm getting fed up with seeing every other morph requires CM! So in this post please post morphs that do not require CM so I can use them on my galaxy s
Until it gets CM support.
Thanks
I would also like to see this. I have a nexus one rooted running stock, and I have never seen a reason to load CM. Last couple of morphs I loaded required a nandroid restore....taught me to reed carefully though
Also, off topic, but where can one find the stock themes? (so we can get back to stock without doing a nandroid restore)
Thanks for any info
Agreed. Any good themes that don't need MM?
D6E
i have an galaxy apollo, been wanting to metamorph it for a while but everything i find is for CM only.

What other ROMs would you want for Safestrap?

I'm taking requests for what ROMs you'd like to see in Safestrap friendly form?
FOR ROM DEVS: The process is really easy. To make a ROM .zip Safestrap friendly (meaning able to run as 2nd-system) you make sure of 3 things:
1. Make sure in your update-script commands (mount / format) you don't reference the system partition as /dev/block/mmcblk1p21. Use /dev/block/system instead.
2. Create a folder in your zips: /system/etc/rootfs and add these files (keep them separated -- not in a .zip)
3. Remove all references to hijacks. Keep the stock logwrapper file intact. Can be downloaded here.
FOR THE REST: Let me know what you ROMs you want converted and I'll see what I can do.
Apex. Darkslide.

I know this is CM based, but I want MIUI.

HAH. Ok, they have to be EXISTING ROMs for D3.

I know you've been working with ChevyCam, so I assume Steel Droid will be supported eventually?
Liberty would be nice lol
/droid3
yea...i kinda skimmed the topic.. my bad .
Seems the process to be safe strap friendly is pretty striaght forward. Perhaps this thread can be rewritten as a dev sticky so anyone looking to make a custom rom will already have safe strap in mind when coding. It would be nice to have an actively supported recovery for our phones. I divert from the topic slightly, but I feel that by setting a standard you won't have to worry about porting every update to every custom ROM. I'm sure AOSP keeps you up at night enough already.

I would have to agree, although maybe just another thread like "[Devs] Safestrap your rom!" to put the onus on individual rom developers might be more appropriate and let you continue with your awesomeness!!
maybeh some monster love? =D

Yes, it will be supported. I just need to upload a fixed version (thanks Hashcode), and I will post a link in the OP, both here and on DroidForums.net
Deodexed stock gets my vote.

There is a system wide ICS theme for Liberty, it's for Bionic but it works just fine.

[Q] Captivate decision: Stock Gingerbread or CM7

Hello all-
This is my first post here, so go easy on me
Well, I am Samsung captivate user on AT&T. I am currently running 2.2 rooted. My question: Should I upgrade to AT&T's gingerbread and try to root in there, or should I just pull the trigger and go to Cyanogenmod?
It seems rooting in 2.3 is not the simple SuperOneClick that it was for 2.2, and rooting with odin actually seems MORE complicated that flashing CM7 (And I guess more risky with multiple kernel flashes, yada yada yada). I am just thinking the less steps, the safer it probably is.
I am also liking all of the features of Cyanogenmod, epically the gesture app launching from the unlock screen.
In this How-to, the guy says to download the latest nightly build. Will it work the same if I choose the 7.1 stable release (I'm going for having whatever option I choose to be my daily use (I'm not gonna be flashing ROMs every month or week)):
I'd like to post it as a link, but xda is hating me and thinks I want to spam them D) so it is youtube at watch?v=iBPu-GqM9RE
What do you guys think?
PS I'm pretty sure you can, but using Titanium backup you can just "restore" all your apps just like that, correct?
If you are still on 2.2 you are way behind the curve.
There are some things you need to know. CM7 is a great ROM but is going to be replaced eventually by CM9 as everything is progressing towards Ice Cream Sandwich based ROMs. Gingerbread is an easy upgrade done through kies even with your rooted phone. It will flash the gingerbread bootloaders that are necessary to flash all gingerbread and some Ice Cream Sandwich based ROMs. Also, if you do choose to go to gingerbread, the kernel flashing process to root is very safe and very straight forward.
Lastly, I highly suggest getting away from a stock rom and flashing a custom ROM. It will make your phone feel like a new device compared to a stock ROM of any build. And yes, you can restore with Titanium Backup but remember to only restore the apps not the data.
Ive seen multiple guides for the stock gingerbread on captivate rooting.
Could you please point me towards the right one? I wanna make sure I dont try something outdated, wrong, ect.
Also, even if I choose to go to CM9 in the near future, should I still upgrade to the stock gingerbread right now and root? Will staying on 2.2 rooted make the CM9 flash easier ( I don't have clockworkmod recovery yet, if that matters ) or will having the 2.3 stock on it make the entire process easier?
Thanks!
From 2.2 Stock you can flash directly to CM9 without changing your boot loader to Gingerbread. That will put you straight to ICS 4.0.3. However your first step is to install CWM. But yes definitely get away from stock!

So there is no advantage to going to stock 2.3 in terms of flashing CM9 (start to finish)?
Here is the thread on how to root gingerbread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21375771
Cm9 as well as most all ice cream sandwich roms are still in beta phases so keep that in mind. If you absolutely have to have 100 percent reliability then a beta ROM is not for you.

+1 to everything they said in posts above.
The only thing I would add is that while the CM9 build is beta (alpha actually) it is VERY stable. Many folks, myself included, use it a our daily driver with no real issues.
In any event, by all means, get off of stock and onto CM. You'll love it.

Heres another thought, what is the chance that I will brick my phone, honestly, so bad it really stays just a brick?
I am just scared, as I have another 10 months till I could even consider a phone upgrade and I like the fancy android phone I have now!
If you follow the instructions then chances are pretty low. Just make sure to read and read again. Ask before you go too far. The safest way I say is to use kies to upgrade to gingerbread because that flashes the bootloaders for you. Then you can go anywhere you want from there. That is if you want to go the gingerbread route.

You will only get a true brick if you fail during a bootloader flash. Most other "bricks" aren't really bricks at all, and can be easily recovered if you can get into download or recovery, which is usually the case.

[Q] Galaxy Note GT-N7000 ICS

Hello, I only recently upgraded my Note via the OTA to 4.0.3. I like the look and feel of it but the appearance is not so good in my point of view. I was wondering if anyone could suggest ways to delete TouchWiz or a good stock ics ROM like the one of the Galaxy Nexus. I have never rooted before but i'm open to the possibility if I can find a good tutorial.
Thanks in advance for coping with my n00b question.
hey
hi this is a new member
Well, if you want to get a stock ICS look (or something close to it) without the need to root or tamper with your device, check out Nova launcher. It looks almost identical to the stock ICS, minus the widgets being in the app menu which can be done to with root, and also it has the ability to have 7 wide dock bar like the Nexus 7.
precisely, as stated above, do you want to change the launcher or entire ROM? there's plenty of launchers in the market, as for room, you may find few with clean, un-samsung-ed Android, like CM9, paranoid etc.
What is better?

What would you as a senior member suggest to just get the clean stock ics look rooting or not doesn't make a difference?

If you're feeling adventurous, I'd recommend paranoid android, cm9 or aokp for pure ics feel.
If not feeling adventurous go with an alternative launcher.

Root Galaxy Note
Hello again, after extensive research I have come across a forum post here on xda that says I can root my Note and using root explorer remove the twlauncher which is basically the touchwiz interface.
I was wondering if this can really work and will it just be like a stock ics like on the Galaxy Nexus?

TW Launcher should be removable, however, I'd install another launcher first - otherwise you mught end up with no possibility to run anything. Besides that, removing tw launcher, will not give different system look, it's just an app launcher.

[Q] Upgrading Ice Cream Sandwich To Jellybean.

Hello all !!
I am a noob to this site, as well as how to root a phone period. I have a Motorola Droid 4 and I have read reviews that say that Jellybean is alot faster/better than Ice Cream Sandwich. I talked to another friend that told me to download SDK Tools, and download all the pack to my computer. my question is this-WHAT THE **** GOOD DOES IT DO MY PHONE TO DOWNLOAD ALL THESE PACKS TO MY COMPUTER IF THERE IS NO INTERFACE OR WAY TO PUT THEM ON MY PHONE ??!! I would really like to know how to put Jellybean on my phone, anyone that can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks !!
Jelly bean isn't officially available on the Droid4 yet (by Motorola). You will probably find a thread on here once it is though.
If you want to put a custom ROM on check out CM10, but there are some known bugs using it now. Check in the android development forum for further details on CM10

Just curious.......
danifunker,
I was told that even though it isnt officially out on The Droid 4, that you can still put it on the phone anyways. My friend who is into these things just put it on his Galaxy Tab and he told me that you can do it-I would just have him help me, but I am all the way across the United States from him and I dont go back to California for a while. He tried to tell me to download SDK Tools. Can you please explain to me the function of the SDK Tools ??!! I can download all of these packs, and even the Jelly Bean 4.1 Version, but then how do I get it onto my phone ??!! Or how does that work ??!! Anything you can help me out with with knowledge would be great. Thanks !!

First off, welcome to the forums!
Now, there is a piece of software called CyanogenMod10 right now, but as previously stated by danifunker, there are bugs. Since the Droid 4 was just recently updated by motorola to Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0), it will be quite a while for the official Jelly Bean update to get here (we are at the will of the carriers). If you go to the CM10 thread, you can find instructions on how to put it on your phone. If you don't want to deal with all the bugs it has right now, I strongly suggest to check out myfishbear's Eclipse rom, based on Ice Cream Sandwich. It is my daily driver on my Droid 4 right now, and it has some added goodies.
Just so we're all clear, you cannot use the SDK to flash Jellybean to your D4. Trying to do so (whatever instructions you might think you are following) will result in your phone becoming an expensive paperweight. Yes, you can download all the Android software, but none of that includes the code necessary for Android and the phone to communicate (the drivers).
There are ROMs you can download from the development section (myfishbear has a great port of eclipse), but the only Jellybean build I am aware of are hash codes or based off of his builds, and those are not ready for daily driver use just yet (though it is coming along awesome).
OP, you should read as much as you can from the development section. A good afternoon or two perusing those threads should give you a better understanding of what you can do. Don't rush in and follow instructions you don't fully understand, trust me that is an expensive way to spend an evening
