Hello every one,
I am using the latest nightly bild from CM10.1 and I am trying to install GPSCountryOptimizer app with adb but all the time it give me error INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_APK ?
Can anyone please explain me what do I need to do? Also tried to wipe devlik after copying the same app in system folder and setting permissions as well but no use.
Thanks.

check settings in Developer Options about adb. may be you do not have some check point there...
also uncheck <verify application> and check <unknown sources> and try again

Thanks for your quick reply. I have checked USB Debugging, Debugging over network is unchecked, Apps over USB checking is unchecked.
It should be right or maybe I am wrong.

With the Following Process it worked out how to install the unsigned apps.
Here are a couple of different options to try.
For both options you will need to put the gallery apk into the same directory as your sdk install. (if you don't know what this is try to pull a file from your device and see where it ends up. Mine is /AndroidSDK/tools because I installed the SDK in the /AndroidSDK directory on my PC)
with all of the commands to type below ignore the single quotes (')
*Install from PC*
1) connect your phone and make sure adb can detect it.
- Launch command prompt
- Navigate to your sdk directory
- type 'adb devices' - you should now see your device listed.
2) Go back to the command prompt and type 'adb install [apk name.apk]
3) You should now see a success message, if you it fails try my other option below.
*Manually place APK into /system/app*
1) connect your phone and make sure adb can detect it.
- Launch command prompt
- Navigate to your sdk directory
- type 'adb devices' - you should now see your device listed.
2) push gallery apk to your sd card.
-type 'adb push [apk name.apk] /sdcard/[apk name.apk]
3) Launch a second command prompt
-type 'adb shell'
-type 'su'
-type 'mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system'
4) go back to first command prompt
-type 'adb shell'
-type 'su'
-type 'cd /system/app'
-type 'cp /sdcard/[apk name.apk] [apk name.apk]'
-command prompt will show 'cp /sdcard/[apk name.apk] [apk name.apk]'
-type 'exit' (this will get you out of su)
-type 'exit' again (this should get you out of adb shell)
-type 'exit' again (this should close the command prompt)
5) go back to first command prompt
-type 'exit' (this will get you out of su)
-type 'exit' again (this should get you out of adb shell)
-type 'adb reboot' (this will reboot your phone)
-type 'exit' again (this should close the command prompt)
You may not need to do this in 2 command prompts, but for some reason I've had issue using just one before.
one of these should work.
Thanks to ezun for so detailed post.

Having the same problem here with the PwnMyMoto rooting file. Thing is, the Droid maxx does not have a sd card. Should I just type "System" instead of sdcard in the command?

Uninstalling an APK via command prompt?

I found this website: http://www.androidkit.com/steps-to-install-and-uninstall-apk-file-on-android-g1-device
Section 3: Uninstalling the .apk file from the G1 device before installing the same .apk again.
1. In the G1 Phone, Go to Applications Menu ->Settings->Manage Applications.
2. Select the application which you want to Uninistall, and click on the ‘Uninstall’ button.
3. Follow steps 6 and 7 of Section 1.
Section 4: Uninstalling the .apk file (from the Device or Emulator) using adb shell.
There is an adb uninstall command which always shows Failure!!!
Using adb shell :
Important: The device has to be unplugged from USB if you are trying to uninstall from the emulator, else emulator should not be open and device needs to be plugged in the USB of the PC if you are trying to uninstall from the G1 Device. If either of them are not connected the adb shell command will not work
Go to the shell and making sure adb is in PATH:
Go to shell (from cmd->adb shell or directly through a terminal)
#
#cd data
#cd app
#cd ls
You will get a list of installed application with the complete package name of the package containing the main activity. e.g com.company.product.apk
#rm com.company.product.apk
#cd ls
You will not find the application – you just removed it!.

So, when I type:
Cd Data
Cd App
Cd ls
in my command prompt I get:
cd: can't cd to ls
$
as a prompt feedback.

I found an .APK to enable my headphone adapter working ( see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=575534 ) via this board ( see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511704 ), and if it doesn't work, I'm taking precautions on how to uninstall it.
Anyone know why it's doing this?
Thanks people.

the command should be "ls" not "cd ls"
also, if you know the package name you could use adb: adb uninstall <package_name>
and if you're just trying to install an app that you already have (such as updating the app) you could use adb and not have to uninstall first with: adb install -r app_name.apk
OK.
I'm just going to make sure before I even install this thing:
http://code.google.com/p/toggleheadset/downloads/detail?name=ToggleHeadset.apk&can=2&q=
This is just a widget, so it won't replace anything in my phone..
If I can't find it on the shell command, I'll be able to uninstall it via the phone like the Date widget I have as well?
Right?

Trying to flash a rom on my phone (x10) and was making sure adb is working properly before i do anything. When flashing the new rom there's some bugs that require adb to fix. From my understanding "$" means i don't have su access. Thanks for the help btw. Sorry for bothering you. Just taking proper precautions.
EDIT
Sorry again. Found my answer. I forgot to unlock my device to accept superuser permissions. Thanks for your help
to check ur phone is detected by adb....
i type "adb shell" in cmd,and according 2 u i should show #.....but it shows $ to me......why?
To check connection, type "adb devices"
"adb shell" will allow you to work remotely on your device. If the $ doesn't change to #, then you don't have root access.

Just and FYI

I have a v6 stock phone, no root, no cwm. Thought I would run through the ADB manual method of root to see what happens. I get to this point...
Code:
>adb devices (verifies you are connected)
>adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/temp/rage
(if the above command fails due to read-only, type 'adb usb' then 'adb root' to validate root status, then 'adb devices' again to verify connection)
>adb push su /data/local/temp/su
>adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/temp/rage
>adb shell ./data/local/temp/rage
When I try to do the SU because I get the $ I get Permissions denied.
I know that this method does not work but I wanted to see where it fails. It appears that they may have fixed the glitch that allowed the rage exploit to work.
I also tried cubes other way and it failed as well.
Code:
Open ADB shell
Your command prompt should be "$"
Run
kill `busybox pidof adbd`
Re-run ADB shell, your command prompt should change to "#"
Just thought I would toss this out there in case someone wanted to know...
Thanks for the heads up on this good info to know when I get my rev on Saturday

Mm, I went through that last night, then downgraded to the V4 software as shown by the other post - still, none of it worked for me.
Pull your SDcard out when trying to root after the downgrade. Or format the SD card. It should work then.

Onemsomic's ICS 3.1RC no GPS lock!

I wanted to ask this in the actual thread but 10 post limit...
Anyway,
I can't get any GPS lock on my I9000, Onemsomic's ICS RC3.1, JVU modem.
I tried changing the NetworkLocation.apk by following this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21351809#post21351809
but since I have absolutely no idea how to use ADB I couldn't do the "change mode to 0644" step.
Someone help a noob?
Thanks.
Well, first off, download the *.apk provided in that post and place it on the sdcard.
adb is a command line tool, so you must insert those commands on a terminal emulator (maybe you got one installed, if not, download one from the market, I can recommend "Android Terminal Emulator").
So, open your terminal emulator and go to the directory where you placed your *.apk. this example has been wrote with the *.apk in the sdcard folder:
Code:
su
cd /mnt/sdcard
adb start-server
adb remount
adb push NetworkLocation.apk /system/app/NetworkLocation.apk
adb chmod 0644 /system/app/NetworkLocation.apk
adb reboot
Note: I wrote this example following my common sense, so I'm not completely sure if this will work!
Cheers!

Well I have been looking here and there, and I found that adb doesn't work directly on the phone, you must use adb from your pc. So, this is what you should do from now on:
Install Java SDK
Install Android SDK
Turn on "USB Debugging" in your SGS settings
Connect the Device to the PC
And finally, use the following commands (from the PC):
Code:
// Go to the folder where you put the *.apk
cd C:\users\exampleuser\Documents\ // or /home/exampleuser/Documents/ if you're using linux
adb start-server
adb remount
adb push NetworkLocation.apk /system/app/NetworkLocation.apk
adb chmod 0644 /system/app/NetworkLocation.apk
adb reboot
Note:
The text after the double-slash ( // ), must not be written in the console, they are just comments
You need to install the SDK's because there it is where the adb tool (and tools needed by adb) is found, so, good luck!

[Q] Mac Toolkit help please

I'm on the last step of mjphillips1981's mac toolkit for 4.4 rooting and it won't finish:
Code:
Press ENTER to finish the SlapMyMoto process.
Open a new terminal window by pressing Command+N
In the new terminal window type the following command
./adb shell echo "/data/local/tmp/install.sh" > /sys/kernel/uevent_helper
Press ENTER when you have finished the above command
I keep getting the error:
Code:
-bash: /sys/kernel/uevent_helper: No such file or directory
I've been at this all day
try this
open terminal
cd to the toolkit folder
type the following (one line at a time)
./adb shell
echo "/data/local/tmp/install.sh" > /sys/kernel/uevent_helper
I think these lines need to be separated.
Hit me up on Google+ and lets see if we can work through this.
An I would suggest that you put questions in the toolkit thread. I was just browsing and noticed this. If you put the question in the thread I get an email.

missed some commands it looks like but im not sure if anything is diffrent because your on a mac
but here is the step by step from jcase's thread
Step1)
Unzip SlapMyMoto-1,0.zip and push the jar file to your internal storage
Code:
adb push SlapMyMoto.jar /sdcard/SlapMyMoto.jar
Step2)
Use http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/ to open up a telnet session as system user on port 2222. We covered how to use Impactor and telnet in the RockMyMoto root, I won't be covering it again since this post is going to be long enough already, see here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2509590 or http://rootzwiki.com/topic/107098-ro...the-first-ota/
Connecting over telnet, and run Stage1 with this command:
Code:
dalvikvm -cp /sdcard/SlapMyMoto.jar SlapMyMoto
When the device tells you to reboot, do this manually with "adb reboot" or your power button. It will not auto reboot on this step
Step3)
Once the device has rebooted, run Impactor again and connect over telnet just like in the previous step, then run the same command
Code:
dalvikvm -cp /sdcard/SlapMyMoto.jar SlapMyMoto
Once the device has rebooted, please take the 4.4 OTA.
Step4)
Now that we are on 4.4, we can finish the process with adb shell:
Code:
adb shell
cp /sdcard/install.sh /data/local/tmp/install.sh
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/install.sh
echo "/data/local/tmp/install.sh" > /sys/kernel/uevent_helper

An I would suggest that you put questions in the toolkit thread. I was just browsing and noticed this. If you put the question in the thread I get an email.

Thanks, I think this did it. The only thing is that I had to manually reboot my phone, but it appears I am rooted as I'm able to run root-only apps. XDA wouldn't let me post on your thread because I don't have the required number of posts. Glad you came across this thread! Thanks again

You're welcome! From what I read. Some people do experience that the phone does not reboot on its own.
Glad you got it working.
I just removed the toolkit. It's too hard to for me to get things working correctly when I do not have a consumer device to test with.
