Lumia 820 jail broken - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Lumia 820 jailbroken, it worked but it was not so smoothly and doesn't even good for jail broken. I tried my lumia 820 jail broken damn delay
Need have a good processor and good ram only jail break will get a good result

Um... assuming you mean Developer Unlock then yes it is actually possible. My Lumia 920 is dev unlocked (or as you call "Jailbroken"). I cannot seem to understand the second part, are you claiming that your device became slower after the dev unlock and you want to upgrade your processor and RAM?

UM... Seriously updated to JAILBROKEN will be delay, so I updated my window phone with RAM, Processor can't be update
So you can try many fun in window phone, it many fun in window phone like computer :0

I don't know what your native language is, but could you please type your post in that and then use an online translator to English? I can't understand what you're trying to say at all. You can't upgrade the RAM in a Windows Phone (or any other phone that I know of) unless you just mean switching models. It has nothing to do with dev-unlock or any other "jailbreak" sort of feature anyhow. There's no "jailbreak" for Windows Phone 8 right now, although there is an official Developer Unlock feature which allows a limited number of low-permission sideloaded apps. Despite the name, Windows Phone is not much like Windows; there's no Desktop mode, you can't access the file system or registry except through the extremely low-privilege (sandboxed) apps and the indirect control of the Settings (Control Panel, basically) section. You certainly can't run Windows (Client, as in, desktop/laptop PC) software on Windows Phone, even with developer unlock.

at the risk of sounding slightly cheeky my friend, you do realise that everything you said there is,..
A) Well documented from day 1 as not being supported
B) The vast majority of users don't ever use such features
C) its all easily found out within a few seconds searching via google
Now leaving that aside, does your sister really need those features or are you imposing your needs on her?
USB storage is handy i agree but not a deal breaker, the device is primarily a phone which it excels at
Bluetooth Transfer is another "feature" that was hardly used by the masses outside if you want to get all picky we can say the same for Android as it doesn't support the full BT stack either, therefore Android is also crap and Windows Mobile is the best ever OS.
No, the OS doesn't suck, it does exactly as it was designed to do, and what it does do, in my opinion, is several times better than iOS or Android.
Yes it could have more features, but firstly its new, secondly MS has decades of usage date available which has told them where they need to focus and what your wanting isn't anywhere near the top of the list.
Remember, WP is a PHONE OS, its designed to be a phone first and puts phone priorities above all else.
Im not ranting, im just pointing out that you should firstly find out what your sister actually wants rather than what you want and secondly, read up on stuff before you buy it.
in answer to all your questions
For that device as it stands, NO, kinda and no
BT transfer is available on SOME custom ROMs, namely HTC 1st and now 2nd gen devices, if fully unlocked any device "should" be able to use BT transfer.
USB storage, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069568, check that out, its not my idea of working but its handy
To date, I believe (correct me if im wrong) that the HTC HD2 is the only phone where we have different OSs on the same device (android, WM and WP)
Thankss

general questions for windows phone 8 apps

hello everybody, i would like to ask some questions about windows phone 8
First of all i want to inform that i was an owner of a samsung omnia 7 for almost 2 years, then when i decided to buy a new device all those windows phone 8 costed 400euro and that was a no deal for me, so i moved to an android device, now that almost all high end windows phone 8 devices cost max 250 euros i m thinking to switch back to windows phone.
But i would like some information for some Apps that i think are mandatory for me,i use maxim 10 apps and maybe less just the most important ones
1. Viber, does it makes phone calls and does it works on the background, to recive a phone call or a message when the phone is locked ?
2.Whats App the same, does it recives a message when the phone is locked ?
+ notification for both
3. navigation, i heard that there is nokia drive available for other devices, i would like to buy a SAMSUNG ATIV S, although i m interested in nokia lumia 820 (but its dimensions-weight-resolution are disapointing). So does the navigation system works, does it displays traffic load ? i live in munich.
4. i dont remember good but i guess the integraded facebook messanger works when the phone is locked right ?
please reliable answers, thanks in advance!
1 & 2) It should work fine with push notifications, same as on WP7, but I don't use them so I can't really say.
3) Nokia Drive (now called Here Drive) is available for all WP8 devices in some markets (including the US, I don't know about Munich). In other markets, it may be possible to trick the Store into allowing you to install it anyhow for non-Nokia devices (working on that). The app's routing is supposedly traffic-aware, but it does not display traffic itself, and I've found its time estimates to be a little worse than those of the Mango built-in navigation app. On the other hand, the app itself is better in many ways. The built-in Maps app does still display traffic and can compute directions, it just won't follow them or speak them to you.
4) Correct, so long as the phone is not in Battery Saver mode or unable to get a data connection.

well i cant say that the push notifications were working correctly on wp7 many problems (i had samsung omnia 7) but i have a hope that in wp8 the situation is better!!
thank you very much for your responce, i m really thinking to buy a wp8 device anyway, samsung ativ s, too bad that nokia 820 has ugly dimensions-weight and low resolution, now that the prices have dropped so much and as i said i had wp7 for 2years and i really feel special with this os
I've got the ATIV S myself, it's a nice phone. Check which model you get though; they have slightly different specs (the T899M supports LTE, the other one has a newer Bluetooth spec).

[Q] Dev-unlocked phone remains unlocked after reset?

Hello folks. I hope I'm not posting an already answered question (at least, I couldn't find it using the search tool).
The question is simple: I dev-unlocked my Lumia a few days ago, but now I need to reset the device. After resetting, shall the phone remain dev-unlocked? Or shall I have to go through all the dev-unlocking process again?
Thank you in advance for the answer.
No, of course not. Developer unlock (registration) is a software change, and the whole point of the factory reset is to undo all software changes.
Not that the process is exactly an arduous one, though. I mean, it takes maybe 30 seconds, typing in my password included, on my dev box...
Thanks for the answer, GDTD.
Just for the sake of some sane discussion: when you "root" an Android device and install Clockworkmod bootloader, it remains installed even if you flash the factory ROM again. So, I don't see the answer to my question as obvious as you do, as I ignore in which "depth" the unlocking takes place.
On the other hand, dev-unlocking my Lumia can be more arduous than what you think, considering that: a) I'm not experienced, b) when I deleted my Microsoft account the AppStudio license went away with it, and -most of all- c) I've downgraded my computer from Windows 8 (I just can't stan that beast) to Windows 7. Now I can't install WP8-SDK. Even the modified one by Arnold Vink doesn't work for me.
But then again, thanks for the information.
Yeah, bootloader replacement is completely different from this hack. WP7 had some custom bootloaders, although you still had to flash a custom ROM to get full-unlock; the stock ROMs weren't unlocked in any meaningful way by the bootloader replacement. In any case, this is not a flashing operation; the change is entirely made within the running OS, and resetting the state of the OS removes it.
I've used the Win7-hacked version of the SDK just fine, although I guess I haven't tested registration. Not sure what people's beef with Win8 is; I mean, install Classic Start Menu or something if you must, but Win8 is just an OS. It does what I need (load drivers, manage files, run programs) at least as well as Win7 and sometimes better (uses less RAM, can run more software, has better security features).
Cool. Now I understand the whole picture. I don't know why, though, the SDK-lite isn't working for my win7. I've installed the full SDK in a virtual machine running win8 and it had no problem seeing my device (even through pass-thru USB).
My "beef" with win8 is, well, I find it more bothersome in several respects. Though uses less RAM, it takes more disk space (I've Windows on a 128 Gb SSD, along with Linux, and I'm a bit short of storage), I can't get used to the new layout, which shows up even after installing the classic start menu, there are a bunch of new features that I don't control, I dislike the "app" approach to programs and, last but not least, the registration watermark (my copy is pirate) bothers me. But I guess it's a matter of getting used to it.

Well there's your problem right there. Discussion of any pirated software is against the rules of the forum and is not tolerated:
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, then pay for it. We do not accept warez and nor do we permit any member to request, promote or describe ways in which warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained. This is a site of developers, i.e. the sort of people who create such software. When you cheat a software developer, you cheat us as a community.
It is strongly advised that you do not proceed with any conversation related to piracy in the future.

recover pictures from factory reset lumia 800

hi, hope you are all well.
This is a bit of a long shot but got to be worth a try as we have come to a brick wall and desperately need some help.
To cut a long story short, as some background for you, a friends Nokia Lumia 800 Windows 8 was stolen by some skank head, the phone had cherished pictures containing the photos of her new borns when they were very ill in hospital. No other backups..we have the phone back but it has been restored to factory settings.
here is the problem, as it does not have a memory card and the storage is internal we cannot get the drive to be recognised by windows as 'a drive'
it states that it is 'generic hierarchial' and I cannot get any software to pick it up. have managed to edit the registry so it shows up as storage and can access it but recovery software just doesn't 'see' the drive. They are MTP and use 128bit bitlocker for encryption.
Can anyone please help with this? the family are gutted and I would really like to find a way to at least try and recover something from it.
thank you for reading and look forward to any help and replies you can offer.

Lumia 800 is WP 7.x not WP 8.
For WP7 only Zune can sent media to the phone.
When the Lumia 800 was new, there was a bootloader hack to get it into USB Mass Storage Mode (this is how the first custom ROMs for the 800 were made). Unfortunately, Nokia patched that out really quickly, and prevented downgrading to that bootloader version. So unless the phone is missing a whole lot of updates, there's no way to get block-device-level access from your PC.
With that said, I haven't been following the Lumia 800 hacking scene recently, but it's possible that there's a way to root the phone. If so, a high-privilege app could (theoretically) get direct access to the storage and attempt to extract the images that way (basically, the kind of software you'd have run on the PC, but run it on the phone instead). That would be a lot of work to write such an app, though.
Also, if Bitlocker was enabled before the hard reset, the data is going to be quite unrecoverable. Bitlocker uses a different master key each time it is "turned on" and cracking AES is not something you can do by whining at people hard enough.
I realize this isn't what they want to hear, but... this is why you back things up! I don't like the "automatically upload my images to Sky/OneDrive" option, but it's there; if you choose not to use it then you're taking responsibility for keeping your photos safe yourself.

hi, many thanks for your reply, I was sort of resigned to the fact all was lost but thought I'd at least try. I always back things up and advise all my friends to do so, this particular phone had come through a friends boyfriend who I didn't know and hadn't backed up, then the phone was stolen.
The phone was restored to factory settings so I am assuming it has had no updates since then, it is on Bootloader 7.41.0.0 Windows 7.8
Do you looked in the Live Account Online, if the option was set on the Camera, they will Upload all Pics to your live Account.

Help: cant use File Explorer to update Win8.1 to Win10 on Lumia925

I have a couple Lumia Phones on Win8.1 and I want to update to Win10, but obviously I cannot connect to the store. I cant believe I didnt know about the Windows Store shutting down before now!
The really bad news is my Lumia925 does not have a File Explorer app so I dont know how to install anything on this. I've tried downloading various .xap and .appx files, is there no way of updating this phone?
so I was following the guides posted for setting up Windows Phone Internals to unlock the bootloader and mass storage, I thought I had done everything correctly as I found the FFU for my phone, I flashed it once and then selected unlock bootloader, but now my phone is softlocked with a blank screen that just says Nokia. I cant shut it off and this model Lumia 925 doesnt have anyway to remove the battery. hopefully I can recharge/reset it after the battery dies
I thought the 925 was like all the other Lumias but it doesnt even have an SD slot sigh! I guess this wasnt the right Lumia for me to buy lol at least I still have my Lumia 1520 working just fine, but I wish I didnt just throw away $50 on this thing
I was hoping to have a smaller sized WP (as backup to my 1520) but the only other model I want is the Lumia 950 and for that price I could buy a full windows tablet/winbook with keyboard lol... is the 950 worth it? or should I just wait a couple years for small notebooks to decrease in price
update: my battery finally died and when plugging in the charger the phone came back... now to see if i can figure out what went wrong :good:
Press and hold together [Volume down] and [On/Off] keys. This will reset your phone as a battery pull.
You can try a method call "offline update Win 10 mobile" to up Wp10 for your Lumia 925 in this XDA forum, it don't need to unlock bootloader. I can't get link to you in this post, sorry !
